Improvements have definitely been made to the match maker, and I no longer find myself continually pulling up youtube on my phone to make the wait more bearable, though there are still occasional technical issues. Combat is still the same and is definitely this games saving grace, though they could do to add more maps. The community is a bit of an issue as players demonstrate a certain amount of elitism (I'll get to that momentarily) and will continually dog pile a damaged enemy simply to get a kill, even if it means costing their team points towards winning the match. As mentioned with the community, rank seems to be everything to most outspoken players, you advance in rank by winning battles and can lose it from a loss (graded D to A). While this greatly encourages group play and for players to form/join guilds, it ruins the game for the single player who now relies on luck with reguard to weather they will increase or decrease in rank with their next match for as I've witnessed so far, a bad played could bring down a good team but a good player doesn't elevate a bad team. If you want to avoid this anxiety inducing issue all together I suggest you just hop into the quick play list, enjoy yourself, and avoid interacting with the toxic community. Furthermore this game falls into the freemium category. While balanced just enough that I wouldn't call it a pay to play/win it would more or less fall under pay to not get bored. This is aggravated in that you could pay $25.00 for a 10-pack loot box and get what amounts to nothing. While you do earn the tokens used to buy the loot boxes, this is at the rate of three per a day assuming you're completing all the daily missions, and kind of impractical. All this being said I really love the actual combat, so I'll give it a solid 7, great game play with loot boxes and a toxic community. Expand

Overall, the combat has a pretty wide variety of weapons, melee and ranged, as well as MS', skills and actual tactics to secure a feeling of pride when they are all used correctly together for a well deserved victory,

Oh and it's F2P, so there's that. Another reason to grab a friend and dive right in...to training, because if you don't, well, you're pretty screwed. Enjoy!

Bandai also refuses to provide servers state side, over charges for the premium currency called tokens, mobile suits are supposed to be in the slot machine then the recycle ticket store(another currency) then the DP store which is normal easy to gain currency and they take their sweet time adding them to the store to encourage players to buy tokens. Avoid the game and stick to the anime.

Some can dodge roll, some have more nimble boosting or longer melee combos. Some can do nutty **** like Blue Desinty's EXAM mode, giving a temporary boost to all stats at the cost of basically crippling you when it ends. Combat in this game is much slower than something like the VS series, but personally I consider that a plus, combat feels about as realistic as giant mechs fighting with light sabers can get. Also there's pilot mechanics outside of your MS, you have a jet pack, you capture bases and plant bombs, and you can straight up HIJACK ENEMY MS. It's mad hype.

Graphics are not amazing, particularly the environments and pilot models, but the suits themselves actually look really good and that's what really matters. After a bit of progression you also unlock the ability to paint your mobile suit which can make them look even better and if THAT doesn't make you wanna build a gunpla...

The 2nd biggest issue I have with the game is making parties, it often takes multiple invites to form a party and the issue is pretty consistent. I'll come back and update this if I notice an improvement.
    -1 point

That's all for the real review, below is a rant/explanation about the progression system. tl;dr: I took off
1 point for it and it kinda sucks.

The BIGGEST issue with this game, is it's F2P economy. Yes, it's free, and for a free game it's great I'd rather just pay 60 bucks upfront for better progression. If you save up your coins and wait for the 3 step supply drop you can get a massive payoff but we're talking about like 20 days worth of daily grinding. Daily missions are fairly easy though and usually I finish mine in 2-4 battles.

There's also a standard free currency with which you can buy things outright but the rate that you get DP outside of quests and dailies is very poor. The loot boxes also have MS that you can't buy with free currency, though apparently they eventually get added.

Lastly you can get tickets that you redeem directly from the ticket shop. you get tickets from getting duplicates in loot boxes, and the ticket shop has a daily rotating stock that always has a few things you can't buy in the DP shop. Generally, you don't want to spend your tickets on something you can buy with DP(free currency).

The only upside to all this bs is that it keeps people playing everyday for the rewards. but the rewards are so bad that I feel like I actually play less everyday than I would if I could continue progressing without dailies. -1 point.

It's......mediocre. The graphics are from PS3, the lag can be pretty bad, the controls are not the best, the guns have limited range (like...real limited....most projectiles don't go past 500ft), any weapon that isn't a high RoF weapon is impossible to aim and get hits with (just do yourself a favor and use automatics), the repair tool is a joke...takes 2 minutes+ to actually repair aIt's......mediocre. Speaking of boosters...they automatically overheat after every dodge, melee is 1 swing and a downward swing to end the combo....only very few suits get a 2 or 3 hit combo....80% of suits get one melee swing.....ONE. The mobil suits are level capped for game modes (you have between 150 and 500 "power level"). The game modes shift every 1 and a half hours and have power level caps (mobil suits have "costs" to use, and if one is too "powerful" you might not be able to use it simply because the "cost" is limited to 200 or less for 1 and a half hours). This can make it to where you can only play 1 or 2 suits for over an hour...which gets boring VERY fast. To make things worse...mobil suits are level locked. You have to be a certain level to buy most suits. Even 300 power level suits (which is VERY low level) are locked until Lance Corporal....and it takes a LOT of grinding to level up. You average 60ish XP per match unless you manage to be top player (I have yet to do this...it is NOT easy to do). I destroyed an enemy base which got us 3000 points (one of the biggest point values you can get for your team)....I was still #7 out of 12 in the game and got 3 kills that match. Another game I got 3 kills and 5 point captures and was 10 out of 12. You literally have to get 20 kills to get best in game (ok, maybe not 20, but 10+ and a point capture or two).

The game feels like a 2010 indie game. I love gundam more than any anime ever made. I own every tv series and e ery movie and I build and customize the Gunpla kits. I Love Gundam. This game is not the best way to praise it's long legacy. It needs work....bad. I never thought I'd say this but....World of Tanks is less of a grind. It's not "terrible" but it's not good either. It's just mediocre and when the West gets one gundam game every 5-10 years, that's not good enough.

Let me say that I am a huge Gundam fan. My father introduced this Mecha series when I was a kid. I collected their figures and owned some of their series.

Now, I’m just going to be blunt about this game. It is a very pay to win type of game. Don’t listen to those who say “work hard, get rewarded.” This game barely rewards you with DP (currency), and EXP. Unless someone activates a booster or you come out on top, you will barely get anything. Also, the Gacha in here is extremely poor. 30 coins for a 10 pull that may or may not give you a rare Gundam. You may have to spend money in order to get what you want, and even then that’s still a slim chance. You’ll usually get low or mid tier mobile suits, parts, or weapons. 8 out of 10 you might get duplicates. You can purchase some of them in the shop, but they are expensive as hell. For example, a three tier mobile suit is between 60k to 100k. If they are going to lock high tier product behind level caps, they should at least make them less expensive.

Mobile suits are based off of cost. 100-500, where higher tiers are in the 400’s and above. If you do matches that have specific level cost, make sure you have a good mobile suit. Otherwise, you will be stuck with a weak tier mobile suit, and get demolished. My advice is to do either 100 or 200 cost matches with 300-400 being a maybe. The controls in here are atrocious. I understand they are trying to make it “realistic”. But with no sensitivity option, you are not going to land your shots or react in time. You need to be extremely patient, guess their direction, or lucky if your opponent is dumb enough to let themselves get hit. A module that enhances your movement speed for your mobile suit and aiming does exist. But that requires for you to reach a rank called corporal have 50k DP points to purchase it. I find that really unacceptable.

In order to get Gundams of higher level, you need to be a certain rank. Not competitive rank, I’m talking about level rank. So, if you want that Gundam Thunderbolt or Gundam Alex, you need to be higher than a Corporal. Like I said, exp is scarce, so you need to play everyday, longer than just an hour, and pray you win.

Now, this game relies heavily on team cooperation. Just like Siege and Overwatch, you need teamwork to win. Unfortunately, with no mic enable, you will be stuck with brain dead teammates. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been jumped by two or three enemy players while my teammates are rushing in to die or ignoring me. It is essential to stick together at all time, even if your teammates are terrible. But my advice is to play with friends. I learned my lesson when it comes to solo queuing.

The servers are terrible. Sometimes you might lag, disconnect, or won’t be able to connect. There will be times you have to close the application and restart it when it starts acting up. Hardwire or not, you will have problems. Namco is notorious when it comes to poor servers. JoJo Bizzare adventure games suffer this same thing with their servers. Hopefully they fix it. Oh, also, if someone is the host of said room leaves after losing, you and everyone else playing in that match will be kicked out. You won’t lose points, but if you won and they pull that rage quit on you, you won’t gain any of the points. Namco needs to reward those who didn’t quit the match. Those who lost and some idiot leaves before the match ends shouldn’t lose their points.

The penalty in this game sucks. Let’s say it’s raining where you live. Your net is acting up. If you get disconnected twice, you will be penalize for five hours. That means, you can’t play at all. After that penalty is gone, you need to play matches in order to remove the other penalty. The second penalty cuts your rewards in half and will not be remove until you complete a set of matches.

Now, matchmaking is somewhat unfair. There is times where you will be matched with low tier players on your team while your opponent have higher tier players. It says it matches you with those of your level. Very rarely you will get good players. Also, unless you pay money to get better mobile suits, you will be matched with those who do. You will get demolish. Keep that in mind if you play. Another thing to keep in mind, the Japanese and USA servers are connected. So you will meet Japanese players.

Overall, this game needs extreme help in many of the stuff I mention. If it wasn’t for my friends, I wouldn’t be playing this game.

Never really had a problem with penalties or anything as my net never randomly drops out.

The controls and net coding are horrible. Your reticle will keep moving after you stop movement on the analog sticks. Movement is clunky you will get stuck on nothing along a flat wall from time to time while boosting. Your shots will thread the needle on when your enemy will shoot no where near and you will be hit 2 secs later then be stun locked to death. Your perfectly timed counters will not connect while one charges into your back and counters years after your hit connected. Then your hits will not fully hit due to weird invincible timers and you will die in those weird invincible timers. Then you have to use a gambling system to win mechs or spend ages farming for money of any worth a damn. $28 for a draw of 10. where 4-7 of those draws will be weapons for mechs you don't have.
Just stay away from the game. Save your time and money for better things.

Content flow is moderate, still free to play, is not pay to win, and the meta isn’t what a majority quite like being the main reason many have left for. Graphics are nice but debris and smoke effects do ruin it sometimes. Sound effects are amazing, they’re true to the series which a lot of the content is thanks to the dedicated dev team and diehard fans of the series. Firing beam rifles and sniper rifles has the most impact with their powerful sound effects that the fans all admired growing up with. Yeah, it seems like a slow paced game by watching, but the moment you get in actual battle it is stressful and entertaining all at the same time. The moment you gain enough knowledge of the fundamentals you’ll feel like you can challenge the world and feels like you’re actually piloting a suit. Those faster-paced titles you don’t get that experienced, in fact those are usually More stressful than this.

The longevity of the game constantly feels like it’s up in the air, like it can end any time. This game has fighting mechanics like in arcade games, could hit esports (again), it’s tactical where you utilize both suit and pilot, much cooperation is needed for higher tier play so there’s plenty of competitiveness for those seeking a challenge and content to unlock for those just collecting or casual. Like I said earlier the only negative things about this game that is unappealing to most that had quit or looked away from this game are the meta (in rating especially), moderate pace of new suits, suits players seeking but aren’t in (or never will be), lack of communication from devs/support and gameplay being at a slower pace. Also, this game doubles in fun-value with friends in party chat. Some very interesting moments.. lol

I want to like Battle Operation 2, I really do. I like the flow of matches, the gameplay is great, and I adore the large roster of mobile suits. However, every system surrounding that solid foundation seems to undermine it at every step. Maybe future updates can salvage Battle Operation 2's myriad problems. But, they've all these issues have probably been present since the game launched in Japan over a year ago; that doesn't bode well for anything getting fixed. As is, the state of Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 is inexcusable, especially for a sequel.
