I don't quite understand why everyone is raving about the graphics in this game. Perhaps it's because the last mlb the show game I owned was 09, but I expected far better visuals in this game. I wouldn't say they are bad, I would just say they are unimpressive. It is a marginal step up from 09. Gameplay is fun, but background textures seem rushed, and without much thought or effort.I don't quite understand why everyone is raving about the graphics in this game. Players still have the same dead eyes, awkward movements, rigid expressions and hair, and lifeless presentation. I may be wrong, but it seems clear to me that this game was made for ps3 and simply ported to ps4. With the ridiculous load times on ps4, and the marginal upgrades from ps3 version, I would say buy the ps3 version this time around, and wait until they actually make a game specifically for ps4 if you really want to be impressed. Hopefully they actually make use of the power and graphic capabilities of the ps4 next time around. Expand

Unless higher-resolution crowds or beards mean that much to you, stick with MLB on PS3 this season for the same price. The loading times are practically eternal and gameplay feels exactly the same as before. I found the visuals to be no more enticing or particularly mind-blowing compared to PS3 anyway. I do like how SSD took the time to bring some updates into the franchise mode (the only mode I really play), but sadly they are only incorporated into a broken and confusing "online" franchise I have no desire to play. I do love baseball and The Show, don't get me wrong, but if you only pretty much sim franchises or RTTS's like me, save yourself some considerable time and just stick with MLB 14 on PS3. I personally bought my PS4 at launch in anticipation for this game, and have since felt greatly underwhelmed. At least Watch Dogs is finally coming out soon! Expand

Most over-rated sports game ever. It can be fun to play for a while, once you get used to the clunky menu system, but as a long term baseball simulation it leaves a lot to be desired: Repetitive commentary and animations; CPU buggering your control of 40-man roster and September call ups; incorrect implementation of option years; wacky sim stats over several season; lack of stat tracking; Most over-rated sports game ever. Lots of people love the Road to the Show mode, but that's arcade, not a multi-season simulation of baseball. Expand

Graphics wise, pleasing. time was put into this as anyone can tell
Game play wise. Excellent, very polish very addictive. Quality
Road to the show is an excellent play mode
Online: poor which knocks down the review score by two. Plague with bugs, glitches, lag and bad connections. Like the beginning days of BF4

As a non-baseball fan it's odd that I was drawn to this game, however from the rave reviews and the amazing look, I couldn't resist. After a little trial and error, I have basically got to grips with it, but it could do with some more pointers to help out with non players of the series. The graphics look incredible and the atmosphere whilst playing is excellent. There are tons of options to play with however downloading the squads cannot be done as an automatic download which can be irritating, the same for the initial install. The game will install from the home menu, however there is another massive install that has to be done in game, and blocks you from playing anything until it is complete. MLB 14: The Show is a fun, albeit flawed experience. The game is fun, yet quite glitchy. Numerous crashes have occurred, unfortunately. That being said, the game is still a blast.

Let's all agree that we're adults here, and admit that no company is ever going to break the mold or smash the glass ceiling in a sports genre. To negatively review a game for being similar to its predecessors is unfair and ignorant. This is a really fun game - dynamic considerations such as pitcher confidence and fatigue, hot/cold spots for a batter, a stat for clutch performance - which adds just enough human element to make it better than a simulation of the big leagues.

Unfortunately, one of the only major departures from the traditional formula of pick-a-team-and-play is where the game suffers. The "road to the show" mode allows you to play as a prospect from scouting through the minors, which is a realistic and intriguing twist - the only problem is, your player will suck, and the game only allows you to play as him sometimes, which doesn't give you much of a chance to get into a rhythm. You'll occasionally get tossed into a jarring scenario to field a ball, giving you little chance to see what's going on around you before the play happens. Or you'll be placed into the lineup as a pinch hitter in the ninth and get one at-bat. Each time you fail at these one-off endeavors, the game thinks you suck even worse, and soon your team will bench you most games. This is really disappointing, because playing the game is really fun - but when you get basically one at bat per game, it's very hard to get hits. And oh by the way, you'll earn about 7 training points for this, and you need several hundred to level up your skills. Ultimately RTTS ends up being a mess of simulating games until you get to play, waiting for the loading screen, playing one at bat or one play in the field, then the game ending and watching another loading screen to start the whole process again. Maybe I just do genuinely suck, but the game is a little odd - unless you play as a pitcher, and don't mind doing nothing but pitching, which is super easy to succeed at.

It's a game in danger of tossing away its decade-long undefeated streak. [July 2014, p.85]

MLB 14: The Show on the PlayStation 4 is about the looks. This is the same franchise as you know it with a next-gen coat of paint, and it looks incredible. Thankfully, it still plays wonderfully too, in large part to the same slick controls and gameplay features we’ve come to know and love.

The Show was clearly on its last legs on the PS3, and the revamped, more true-to-life ballparks infuse some much-needed atmosphere in the series’ PS4 debut. Meanwhile, Road to the Show includes several tweaks that help you create a more dominating prospect. Unfortunately, the player models don’t receive the same level of care, and the game’s online components aren’t on the level of most other sports franchises—issues that absolutely must be addressed going forward.
