This game was quite a disappointment. It's exactly the old metal slug, with dated mechanics, nothing new added. The original was good when it launched, but some improvements were expected for this relaunch.

If you enjoyed the old metal slug, it may be worth buying when the price drops to $5,00, no more than that.

I bought this game for the PS4 as soon as I saw it on the PS Store, not just because for nostalgia's sake (where the 'in' word was 'sprites'), but also because in my opinion it is the best in the series.

I bought this game for the PS4 as soon as I saw it on the PS Store, not just because for nostalgia's sake (where the 'in' word was 'sprites'), but also because in my opinion it is the best in the series.

I played almost all of the games in the Metal Slug series, but if I remember it right this is the only game that has branching/alternative paths all throughout the missions. This makes the game's replay value a notch higher than the rest, and it doesn't feel as linear or boring even after several playthroughs. Play with a friend and double the fun!

So why only a 7? A 7 from me is a 'good' to 'very good' rating. What keeps it from scoring a little higher is that the game is just a port from the original arcade game. I mean, it's not even a 'remaster' - no HD visuals (304 x 224 resolution, anyone?). And I was also hoping for a few new extras - none in that department.

But, hey, if you're looking to try old-school games, definitely check this one out!

Metal slug is a fun steampunk themed game with some things that I don't personally like such as limited life's, and very shaky combat I would play it if I really had nothing else to do.

Its no holds barred approach to the familiar side scrolling shooter combat helps it stand out from the pack, and keep players engaged from beginning to end.

The asking price is a bit steep, all things considered, but the addition of cross-play makes this title a little easier to swallow for those who like that sort of accessibility.
