    Great game. Not a 10 but definitely not 1.5. You can tell by the score how bias certain people are with their score. Play the game for yourself and you'll definitely be happy with this game and the hundreds of hours it provides compare to other games which are 4 to 6 hours to finish. Cheers!

    utter **** , literally the worst thing that could have happened to a metal gear franchise .
    the game play is a mix of tedious unbalanced "surviving" boosted by the most repetitive annoying AI voice ever , ur stamina is non existing , the assets are MGV identical , the world is empty .
    for short it's a zombie mod for MGV sold separately for 40$ but if u need more save slots u need 10$ ,    utter **** , literally the worst thing that could have happened to a metal gear franchise .

    This is not the worst game, however it is a really bad one. $10 for a save slot should really tell us how bad the game is, however that is not all. It is a generic zombie survival open world game in a time where we have battle royale games. PUBG and Fortnite is certainly way better. So what do we get for the base game. Something that should be worth nothing pretty much. Most insultingly we are treated like idiots due to the slow speech we are given from the robots in the game. What are we three years old? Cutscenes are cheap and the game is just a bad mod for Metal Gear Solid V. It doesn't look outright ugly and the base defense can be fun but the fact that it has dust and dirt for an open world and nothing more diverse than that. How did we drop so low Konami, you are on a path for bankruptcy. Anyways that is why I give it a 3/10, hope this review was useful in some way.… Expand

    But it's not THAT bad.
    Please bear with me for a moment as I'll explain why this game isn't as bad as it seems, I'm rating the game on it's own rather than giving a free 0 for protesting, I still hate Konami though. First, the good. MG:S tries to follow the lead of Phantom Pain on matters of style, more than the    Metal Gear Survive is the Book of Memories for the Silent Hill series.
    But it's not THAT bad.

    Please bear with me for a moment as I'll explain why this game isn't as bad as it seems, I'm rating the game on it's own rather than giving a free 0 for protesting, I still hate Konami though.

    First, the good.
    MG:S tries to follow the lead of Phantom Pain on matters of style, more than the gameplay and map, the campaign is as convoluted, giving you a fair amount of cutscenes, dialog and tapes from where you can learn more about the world and the "Wanderers" which is way more than I expected personally, I specially like the twists, they're not as expected as you may think at first, nothing exceptional, this is not MGS3 leveles by any means, but competent, is worth exploring further? Not really.

    Gameplay-wise, you get the regular survival mechanics, thirst, hunger, stamina, life and oxygen. At first, you will probably get distracted looking for food desperately, so keep that in mind when you begin and you'll have no issues, melee weapons may feel tricky at first, but they're not bad at all, and it gets easier to handle as you level up and spend your skill points in unique skills per type of weapon, stats and character skills.

    Graphics are okay, I mean, it looks like Phantom Pain would have looked like if it was made for current gen only, but still, not the best use of FOX Engine, Phantom Pain / Ground Zeroes still look more apealing. The maps are smaller than the MGSV maps, but they're not exactly the same, you will genuinely get lost in there and see new areas and buildings that are completely new or different, of course almost every asset is something you've already seen, but used in different and many time interesting ways, a map expansion would be nice though, I was expecting to see places like the palace, OKB Zero, nova braga airport, etc, I'd like to see these maps expanded and maybe bring map MGO maps, hell, even new maps based on older games would be awesome, but I wouldn't expect any of that on a realistic way.

    Multiplayer is pretty good until you play all that's there, it's a good way to get materials and blueprints, but Konami needs to bring big updates to support both single and multiplayer, otherwise this game is not going to live long, warning.
    MTX, the big **** move, charging for save files is as stupid as charging to play multiplayer (I'm looking at you, Xbox Live Gold and PS Plus) but there is a not as dark side to all this, daily rewards follow the MGSV path, giving you SV Coins randomly, in MGSV I could get all 3 FOB's and some cosmetics in MGO without paying a cent, twice. I expect to be able to buy all 3 save slots without paying, but you don't need to wait, use your secondary account and you're good. Thankfully, it isn't pay to win nor a casino (Battlefront 2...)

    I cannot say this is a bad title, is it a bad Metal Gear Spin off? not even that, it's in a bad spot, no good PR could ever go to this game, we all hated Konami for the pachinko Silent Hill and MGS3, we all hated them for mistreating Kojima and the rest of employees, we all hated them for pushing MGSV incomplete, and I bet we all still do, it is true that if you dislike the company that made it, anything will look far worse than it actually is.

    Thankfully, Kojima is doing what he wants now.
    Hopefully, the hostages Konami has, aka the old Kojima Productions, get a better job in another company

    Hopefully, Konami dies alongside EA and the videogame industry snap out of the BS we've been enduring since 2014.

    And don't forget, Konami, there's still another fanbase hating you every day, Silent Hill fans were upset by the SHs cancellation and even more with Book of Memories, even the HD Collection even all the way back with SH4 when we learned that you didn't want to give freedom to the team to end the series in a high note and forced them to transform Room 302 into SH4 only to fire most of them afterwards, you will not get away from the stigma anytime soon, let's see how long you can live with pachinko machines, yu gi oh and PES.

    This is not a bad game.
    Bad games are games like Umbrella Corps, Destiny 2, Sonic 2006, Godzilla PS4, Life of black tiger, etc.

    One last thing, about this online only stuff.
    You don't need a P$Plus suscription to play singleplayer, but you need to be always online either way, this is up to your perspective, I personally like to not worry about having no connection and play my games without problem, but if I'm having issues with my connection, even Fallout 4 works like crap, and many times, i don't even bother and I just play PS3, PS4 and any current platform it's always online pretty much, so yeah, I think this is the least of our problems, though I would appreciate and offline mode, even if my progress is separate from my online character like in black ops 3, just let me do it.    … Expand

    I have never liked a game so much that is so hated on lol. I’m of the age I been around since the first metal gear games. I 100% respect and understand a loyal fan base and understand people being upset. If this game was called anything else imo it would be looked at in a complete different light.     I’m just a casual gamer and don’t know nothing nor have deep ties I just like what I like

    The game is fun. I haven’t spent 1cent in microtransactions. The begin is a little to harsh getting start and base going. but that is survival :p A few hours into it hunger and water is not an issue and you start to catch a survival flow. Co op with friends is a blast! The grind is great and rewarding. Story is ehhh..

    If you on fence go rent it maybe . Decide for yourself in the end.    … Expand

    Story: the story tries to be deep and serious but it just comes off as cheesy and boring. Nothing that happened was interesting and I found myself eantintvto skip the boring scenes with these unappealing characters. Uninteresting story overall.

    Gameplay: it works... But it's just so damn boring. Everything you so in this game has been done in better games. Base building, weapon crafting, survival this and hunger elements, have all been seen before over and over again. In this game however they just drag down the experience and don't add anything new or exciting. Killing zombies isn't even that fun because their ai is stupid and they pose little threat. The gameplay works it's just tedious and boring

    Sound: some of the voicework is decent but the two ai bot voices are so monotone and slow it almost put me to sleep. Music is ok if forgettable and sound effects are decent. The worst is defintely the ai voicework though.

    Lasting appeal: if you like tedious and boring grinding than their is some content here but most people will be too frustrated and bored to even bother with this game

    Overall it's just not fun to play. Everything works and their aren't any technical issues but if it's a chore to play then what's the point? That's the games main problem not that it feels like a cheap cash grab on metal gear, not that it has where you have to pay $10 for extra save slots. No, it's the fact that the game is so damn boring and tedious to play.

Real-life timers, infuriatingly frustrating combat because the game engine doesn't lend itself to melee combat, a unrewarding grind-fest, frustrating resource acquisition because of how fast you will end up needing without being provided. And then that I can't start the game because it failed to log in to the server.

    We may never get another legitimate metal gear game because of what konami have done, they get a 0 for even attempting to continue the property they killed. I'll always miss the real metal gear solid.

    Very mediocre. Lots of repetition and none of the "Metal gear magic." Also has many microtransaction elements for BASIC game functions like save slots and inventory spaces. Feels more like a decent, free MGS5 mod with free-to-play microtransactions than a full game!

    The game is boring, you have to grind aprox 15 hours to get things going and then, it´s more of the same, you want a good survival game go buy state of decay, thats an awesome game, this is not fun and on top of it all... 9.90 usd to get a second save slot? wtf, with a 1 im givin away to much score.

Took a couple points off for some of the micro-transaction stuff, but honestly its not even that bad. As usual people are blowing this up to more than it is.     You have to pay to have an additional character (Ten bucks is the minimum)
    And you have to stay online always, or you wont play.

    The game is bad, it's rushed and it's badly any fun.

    "Metal Gear" Survive is basically a "Copy Paste" of MGS V in terms of gameplay and graphics, a really repetitive game, it`s really high-priced for what it is and its just a cashgrab for Konami. This game looks like a mod made by a fan in MGS V. Really disappointed with what Konami did to the Metal Gear Series. Metal Gear without Kojima isn t Metal Gear.

    I rented this garbage and returned the next day. it's there things that should never happen. online. micro transaction filled and a cash grab with zombies. mgsv was bad enough but this is just terrible.

    Let me get this out of the way, i haven't played the game, i'm just gonna leave this review to try to explain why is this so hated ( to those who don't know why at least).

    if they made a game that didn't have anything to do with metal gear and it's universe, it would probably be a 7 or an 8, probably even a 9 if they made it really awesome, but no, it feels like either they were too pretentious to think they could just do whatever they wanted, or like if they wanted to ruin kojima's legacy or just kill the franchise while making money out of it....

    with that said, i don't know if the game is bad or not, maybe it is, maybe it isn't, so i'll just leave a neutral score, as i said before, i just wanted to explain the context behind all the hate...
    i think you should give it the benefit of the doubt ( if it isn't too insulting for you xD )
    maybe try to picture it like something not cannon or maybe imagine is an alternate timeline or something, i think that if you actually get past that, it could be enjoyable or fun at least...

    It's surprisingly more singleplayer focused than the trailers make it look. Multiplayer is basically Fortnite's PVE mode (with the over the top Metal Gear spin).

    The SP campaign is pretty intense, though it s a slow and often tedious start. You will feel like you're constantly short on food, water, oxygen and supplies for awhile but slowly you begin to claw your way out of **** and start being able to really fight back against the world of Dite.

    I don't think this is a game for everyone and there are some boneheaded choices (like extra character slots being pay to unlock), but you also don't really need the character slots. Your single character can do it all (ala Monster Hunter), and can even be fully recustomized in look at any time. There are no intrusive microtransactions, no loot boxes, no pay to win. The game legitimately feels complete. The melee combat is clunky until you unlock some more moves (ESPECIALLY THE DODGE) but after awhile it feels fun to blow through some Wanderers while riding on the back of a personal mech.

    Now there is the issue of Weapon Storage/Loadouts also being locked behind a paywall but I personally haven't had it effect me - I don't tend to stockpile a ton of stuff and use what I have. I break down older gear once I have something more reliable to replace it with and it has kept me more flush with resources and with plenty of storage.

    The TL;DR is all the micotransaction stuff is legitimately for convenience sake, and the core game itself is not touched by them.    … Expand

    There have been so many tense moments that have kept me immersed and entertained. Some might be frustrated by the constant need for food and water. It is far more forgiving than say "Don't Starve" or "The Long Dark", but scavenging and hunting for food and water are a key part of the gameplay so if that is not your thing, you might want to stear clear of Survive. Another source of tension is the "dust" which covers most of the games open world. You have limited oxygen which adds yet another challenge. Not to mention the possiblity of getting lost in the dust, or overrun by Wanderers. The games systems are plentiful and intricate and produce a great experience.

    The story is actually pretty darn good. In edition to a few good cutscense, "codec style" conversations as well as audio logs you find that can be listened to as you play (simular to MGSV). It's simple and leaves you alone for long periods of time in favor of focusing on gameplay, but the plot is well thought out. It has many referances to the Divine Comedy which is fun as well as some real-world conspiricies like the Philadelphia Experiment. My main complaint is the A.I. Virgel being deadpan and slow-talking.

    The co-op tower-defense mode is a complete change of pace. It is an absolute blast with friends! I'm uncertain of the replayability of it, but my friends and I played upwards of 14 hours in the beta on just 2 maps! The full game has quite a bit more so I'm willing to bet theres quite a bit of fun to still be had.

    Now the downside...The menus and controls. They aren't "terrible", but they take a LOT of getting used to. Particularly if you're on keyboard/mouse like myself. Do yourself a favor and use a controller. I've already adjusted and the percision of the mouse has its advantages, but Survive was obviously designed with controllers in mind.

Here's a news tip, Konami actually doesn't have Kojima locked up in a basement where they whip him all day and for every copy of Survive you buy, they whip him more. Also, people who worked on prior Metal Gears, Gradius, Castlevania, etc still are affiliated or work for Konami. When you sit there and bash the company every second you get (because you clearly have nothing else with your time) you're bashing people who put their heart out there and made something decent in the gaming industry for decades before you probably even knew they existed. Also, it may come as a shock to you, but Kojima was not the only person who made the Metal Gear games! Wow, could you have imagined that!? Yeah, he didn't create literally every aspect of every MG game! Sorry, I had to say that because people forget that it takes a TEAM of people to create a massive project like any of the MG's. Don't disrespect them and destroy their legacy because you treat Kojima, a guy who doesen't even know your name, like a god as if something like what happened between him and Konami has never happened before in the gaming industry.

    As for Survive itself? It's an excellent game. In terms of spin-off's for the MG series, it makes Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance look like Club Penguin. Survive does NOT play or feel like a typical zombie shooter (because y'know, you'd have to buy the game to know that), it is a desperate struggle for survival in an alternate dimension that actually feels and plays great. The sneaking factor is there more than ever, the game does not baby you through it, the story feels refreshing, the controls are excellent and smooth, the micro-transactions are completely irrelevant just like Phantom Pain only had them to boost time, the game was $20 cheaper than any normal retail game. What more could you want, the list goes on. Konami designed this game knowing that people were upset that they screwed up and tried to make it in the favor of the consumer entirely and it worked out very well.

    I know this is not a story written by Kojima and I respect it. They are not re-branding his legacy. Accept it and move on. Remember the series for what it was whether you like the new material or not. Be an adult, be a patriot and stop acting like children over a game. I expected this backlash over a game like Halo or COD, but seriously? Don't call yourself an MG fan if you have a hard time distinguishing the old from the new and every time you see a post about Survive you need a box of tissues and a diaper to make it through the day.    … Expand

    My reasons why I do not like Metal Gear Survive:
    1) I do not like online games, and this game forces me to stay online constantly, you can not be offline.
    2) I do not like cooperative multiplayer mode. I did not like that option either in Peace Walker. I prefer to play solo. 3) I do not like to play zombie games. 4) It does not look like a Metal Gear game at all - it's not like a    My reasons why I do not like Metal Gear Survive:

    5) Microtransactions: you need to pay extra to make a new character or to get an extra save file, also you need to pay extra for some other components. Based on this you can conclude why MG Survive was not sold at full price.
    6) Very bad story, does not make any sense at all.
    7) It's repetitive. Each level is the same: defend the tower from the hordes of zombies.

    These are my seven reasons why I do not like MG Survive. Reasons have nothing to do with Kojima or Konami. The highest rating I can give to this game is 3 out of 10.

    This is the worst spin-off of Metal Gear series. Ghost Babel, Acid, Portable Ops and Rising are much better spin-offs than this game.

    It would be better if Konami completed MGS5 by making several more missions for MGS5 and thus shows how Punished "Venom" Snake formed the Outer Heaven, and thus directly connects the story of MGS5 with the original Metal Gear from 1987. And after completing MGS5, then Konami should make a remake of the original Metal Gear 1 and 2. Then make a remake of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the PS4. Would also like to see that Konami make a remake of Ghost Babel with Fox Engine, and to make a Metal Gear Rising 2 to show how Raiden became cyborg.    … Expand

    If you move past all the haters and kojima fanboys there's a pretty decent game here that you'll enjoy. It's a strange mix between tower defense, survival and stealth but it somehow works.

    Well, the very first Metal Gear game in a non-Kojima world. I think that at least half the team behind MGSV worked on Survive, so this game isn't terrible. Also note that this game takes heaps of elements from MGSV, so don't expect it to be a brand new experience. The gameplay is decent, the graphics are pretty good, and the stealth is ok.     I went into this game with no expectations and haven't played any recent Metal Gears. After playing it didn't seem like this game is meant to continue the Metal Gear Solid series so i'm not sure why there's so many negative reviews referencing the other games.

    In the same way, Metal Gear Survive has stealth, infiltration, and what for some might be a satisfying story (more on that later), It is not fair to call it a main game in the Metal Gear series.
    Is it a good Metal Gear game? From the playtime i've experienced, (Both my own, and that of footage i've watched.) I'd say it is. It might not be what people would call a good Metal Gear SOLID game,
    but it uses the metal gear universe well, established history, iconic figures, and so forth.

    Food and water drain a little faster then i'd feel comfortable with (our guy must have one HELLUVA metabolism) but it puts the pressure on to _SURVIVE_

    Menus, though? Dear god the menus.
    For instance, the base building? To move the cursor around, you need to hold down control while you move the mouse. Just moving the mouse around itself ROTATES the camera.

    and the options are horrible.

    Under 'sound' the only toggleable setting, indeed, the only setting AT ALL is if you want to have automatic voice chat or not.

    And it's 'Valid' or 'Invalid' as the options.

    The menus need work.

    Luckily, it doesn't detract from what I've enjoyed as a pretty solid game. I'm gonna be playing the hell outta it. The story seems decent enough so far, though I will say it's a DAMN good thing this isn't a Solid game, or I'd laugh at them.    … Expand

    Pese a que ciertos aspectos del gameplay son parecidos a los que teníamos en MGSV estamos ante un juego diferente, y debo decir que es muy divertido. Para    Metal Gear Survive es un juego de supervivencia, exploración, desarrollo de bases y gestión de recursos en un contexto basado en la saga Metal Gear Solid, más concretamente en los sucesos que acontecen al final de ground zeroes.

    Pese a que ciertos aspectos del gameplay son parecidos a los que teníamos en MGSV estamos ante un juego diferente, y debo decir que es muy divertido.

    Para los que como yo pensaban que este juego iba a centrarse en el componente coperativo y que la campaña era solo un apoyo al verdadero plato principal, debo comentar que no podía estar más equivocado puesto que es totalmente al revés. Esto me reconforta bastante puesto que si a mi me gusta el juego no tengo que estar pendiente de que tenga una comunidad detrás jugándolo para disfrutar de él.

    Sinceramente, me parece un juego con buenas ideas y pequeños detalles que le otorgan una personalidad diferente y lo diferencian de todo el género de juegos survival que está lleno de mugre. El tema del oxígeno, las ruinas sin luz, el hecho de que tengamos que marcar nosotros mismos en el mapa las zonas donde conseguir recursos... Y eso que aún me quedan bastantes mecánicas por descubrir.

    Respecto a la historia, no puedo decir mucho aún, sigue el tono de la saga pese a tratarse de un spin-off, los fans encontrarán detalles divertidos. Desde luego pinta que al menos tendremos momentos espectaculares puesto que [MINISPOILERSUPERTONTO] de momento ya me he encontrado con una criatura titánica que ni si quiera cabía en la pantalla[MINISPOILERSUPERTONTO].

    En cierto modo, si por desgracia el juego no acaba destacando es sin duda por haber decidido enmarcarlo en la saga de Kojima. Personalmente opino que le hubiese ido mucho mejor como nueva ip puesto que como ya he comentado tiene ideas muy interesantes.

    Por cierto, todas esas personas que dicen que el juego es difícil es por que o no se han molestado en saber como funciona o por que simplemente no son muy buenos jugadores.

    En resumen un juego diferente (mucho más de lo que parece a primera vista) ambientado en la saga MGS.    … Expand

    Is Metal Gear Survive worth it? Oh yeah, totally. Game of the Year. Honestly, I don’t know why you haven’t bought it yet! Death Stranding won’t be able to compete with this. Sarcasm aside, don’t buy this game, just don’t. Yeah, the environments and visuals are kind of neato and the feeling of helplessness certainly comes across, but it’s just a clusterf**k.

    The whole existence of Metal Gear Survive closely resembles this of the Wanderers – the game’s zombies. With the story, characters and wit ripped out completely off it’s body, what remains is a lifeless yet standing shell of Metal Gear Solid V. The decent (and borrowed) survival mechanics barely keep this husk walking around aimlessly with no purpose whatsoever. Survive may not be a bad survival game, but the merciless grind required and lack of respect for gamers’ time are inexcusable.
