    So all the negative reviews I'm really not understanding. When I first heard about this game I was not expecting a GTA v clone I was expecting mafia 3. For one I think a lot of the hate is coming from the fact that Lincoln is black. Secondly all the pc users coming on here trashing the game because it won't work on their **** PCs. Thirdly a bunch of stupid fan boys expecting grand theftSo all the negative reviews I'm really not understanding. I don't know what people actually expect from games but what pisses me off is that half of these negative reviews are coming from bandwagon gamers. People that are not true gamers and don't really appreciate the value of a good well out together game so they compare a Mafia game to the likes of destiny, call of duty, and grand theft auto.     I have just finished on ps4 after 30 hours and I have to say that I like the game I love, nn will gta 5 (he also has bugs, just look at youtube) in terms of graphics but as the game in mafia style is perfect, atmosphere, Soundtrack, mix stealth action etc etc ...
    Perhaps too similar and repetitive missions ... (again, you can argue about all games) ... no game will be perfect but the rest is perfect.

    ok this game certainly does not deserve a 0 or 10, I am enjoying it so far, interesting plot and cool sound track, can gamers not review games intelligently anymore? Uncharted, Metal gear Solid all had incredibly repetitive missions and these are currently rated the top two Ps4 games on this site

I swear, can we just judge a game on it's own merits instead of constantly comparing it to what's come before it? Anyway, I've enjoyed my time with this game so far and I haven't come across any issues so far either.     This game is really fun and is worth playing for the sound design alone. Best Voice Acting/Sound Effects/Soundtrack of any open world game ever. Definitely recommend.

    Mafia III + DLC is an amazing game. It deserve a 9/10 in my book (I removed 1 point for the bugs). The more you play the more it grows on you. I reached a point where I was so comfortable with all the mechanics (shooting, driving, running, etc...) that I didn't want the game to end. I fell in love with New Bordeaux (New Orleans in the game), the soundtrack (Amazing 60's songs), the cars and the driving, the stealth approach to each encounters, the shooting mechanics, etc...

    Some reviews say the game is repetitive, but it's not. It's true that you have to conquer district after district by running after the bosses and try to hurt their businesses, but I felt that each district had its own identity, its own missions, unique landscape and scenery, that I felt it was different from the previous one and kept the game compelling. I never felt bored, and always wanted to continue to the next area. The story is good, although I didn't like the main protagonist however I understood his motives.

    You can approach each objective the way you want (stealth or all gun). Both mechanics are very well implemented and fun. Shooting has a slow mo feature that is welcomed since a couple of bullet can decimate you. Guns are varied, and you have to complete certain objectives to acquire some of them (some of the best) which is an incentive to keep progressing to acquire a piece of equipment. There are loads of upgrades that you can get and they are crucial to win some missions.

    Likewise, there are very nice and difficult races throughout the city. The more you progress throughout the story, the fastest cars you'll get and better upgrades for your cars that will help you win and beat the highest scores in the more difficult races. You can customise your cars and in the course of the game you'll find yourself driving exotic, upgraded beautiful cars. That's a nice feature since you start the game with slow 60's car, you end up driving 8 valves ultra rapid cars. There is a sense of progression very well implemented. and I kept getting these slow upgrades throughout my 100 hrs playthrough (I took my time cause I loved the game and I beat every mission available).

    This is a game you have to give a chance to. At first, you might not like it, but after 10 hrs of play, it will grow on you and you will get used to all its mechanics and you'll want to progress.
    I loved all the 3 DLC, there are varied, provide a lot of different objectives and even an additional area that has large fields and jumps à la GTA V.

    You'll have to earn money in this game, as most upgrades require you to pay hefty cash to get them, and money is scarce. It is usually found in mafia hideouts when you raid them which gives an additional reason to beat all the objective in each district to get the maximum cash you can get. Weapons also cost a lot of money to acquire as well as car upgrades. You'll never find yourself with an excess of money throughout the game, because of the reasons I mentioned.

    tl;dr Get Mafia III and take your sweat time with it. It is a very good game, with excellent graphics, and very well executed mechanics. It has a compelling story a large and varied map, excellent shooting and driving mechanics and dozens of hours of gameplay.    … Expand

    I've played for around 7 hours and I don't know what else people want In a game? This game is fantastic. It's story has me emotionally invested and really giving me a reason for what I'm doing.to me that's what a game like this should do. I feels good being able to beat these racists to the ground.you can go all stealth or blast away it's nice to be able to shoot when your caught. The sound is great, the graphics are great, there is actually a story which is compelling and means something. This is a quality game! Get it. In my opinion more FUN than GTA. I wasn't going to post this until I finished my review but I saw all the GTA fan-boy hate on this site and decided I better come and provide an honest initial impression. I have been blown away by the setting of this game, everything from the time-frame and music are absolutely killer.

    I'm only 6 hours in but can easily say    This is my initial impression on Mafia 3 and so far so good. I wasn't going to post this until I finished my review but I saw all the GTA fan-boy hate on this site and decided I better come and provide an honest initial impression. I have been blown away by the setting of this game, everything from the time-frame and music are absolutely killer.

    I'm only 6 hours in but can easily say this is the best Mafia game in the series yet. Anyone that claims otherwise I dare say may not like that they went away from an American-Italian as the main protagonist; honestly though that was the best decision that could have been made for the franchise as the Italian mob thing has been done over and over again. They have provided us with a fresh take and it looks to have really paid off. So far the mechanics with the game are very smooth, I personally adjusted the auto aim to a lower level to increase difficulty. Which feels about right and has made things more challenging.

    The stealth in the game isn't ground breaking but is done well, I do worry though that the takedowns will become repetitive and stale after time. The driving in the game is smooth and easy as it should be in a shooter. My biggest gripe with the previous installment (Mafia 2) was that the world was very empty and practically dead. That has been remedied here as the world is quite more alive and things are going on all around you. This was an area that I always felt they needed to look at GTA and come up with something comparable, and they have achieved just that.

    The thing that sets Mafia 3 apart from GTA though is the story and setting here. I feel like the racially charged climate has really set the tone here for some amazing historical like gameplay that we haven't seen before.     A masterpiece. Mafia III is fierce, violent, fleeting. Everything in this game is gorgeous, from its beautiful graphics, to the absurdly realistic physics. The plot is dense and full of strong characters. Applause also for the courage of Hangar 13 to address one of the most violent periods of the 60s, people who suffered from racism and discrimination.

    I've seen high ratings on games that I didn't even want to start...Boring the same sh1t...Well in my opinion the era of Mafia 3 is something different and the music puts u into it... U will find urself deep inside if u just take a ride around...

    This game surprised me, and I don't even like FPS much anymore. The game's actually fun for once, unlike critically acclaimed GTA V for example. Not really sure why but it's got the most important thing going, the fun factor.

    WHAT GAME ARE YOU PLAYING!!! I played it DAY ONE on the PS4 - post patch and have had NO TECHNICAL ISSUES. Believe me - I HATE games with technical issues, but Mafia 3 is not one of them. I heard the PC version is having issues, but they will be fixed with a patch. The PS4 version is pretty much flawless. If you like GTA or Just Cause 3, you will like Mafia 3.     It's Punisher the game. Awesome, satisfying combat. Great music and it feels like you're back in 1968.

    this game has great graphic, very good gameplay.. ai enemies are pretty medicore. driving is pretty fun. facial animation are very impressed to me. Whoever are fan of Mafia series then this game must be for them to play

Moreover, the storyline is very intriguing, it incites the player to go on to know how it ends.     man this 6/10 couldn´t be more misleading. the game is amazing 10/10, better than GTA V on almost everyhting. While GTA is a parody of modern society with good gameplay, MAFIA III shows a much darker side of society with superb graphics, great gameplay and a masterful level of cinematography. you won´t be dissapointed

The main thing that is amazing about this game is the story and the way its told is really fantastic, it feels like a movie,This game is amazing!!!     Finally, six years later here is how to make a great game again. 2K don't play around, Mafia is a masterpiece. A different step in the series that will not disappoint the true fans. Gritty,controversial and action-packed.

    This game is terrific. It's not Witcher 3. It's far, far better than GTA V and many other recent AAA titles. Do yourself a favor, buy the game off steam, play for 2h and refund if you think any of the bad reviews is actually justified. I'm enjoying every second.

    P.S. It's funny to see how the game dipped to a rating of 3.8 and now is coming up as mature people are realistically reviewing it :-)    … Expand

    My impression of mafia 3 is incredible, the story mixed with the soundtrack works so well to make you feel apart of the mission - to get revenge on the white supremacists. Its also very good at making you feel a victim, you have shop keepers and civilians calling you **** and coon, the main missions are brutal and intense. I just done a mission to take down one of the kingpins in anMy impression of mafia 3 is incredible, the story mixed with the soundtrack works so well to make you feel apart of the mission - to get revenge on the white supremacists. Its also very good at making you feel a victim, you have shop keepers and civilians calling you **** and coon, the main missions are brutal and intense. I just done a mission to take down one of the kingpins in an amusement park that was partially flooded and it was so creepy, the walls were alive with animated depictions of priests warding off the monsters which were depicted as black people - this while being hunted down by the white people was terrifying.
    That aside the gameplay is great, driving is realistic, the city is alive, there are lots of buildings you can go into to create short cuts when on foot, or break in to get a collectible or steal some money from the back room of a shop. There is also the typical side missions which comes with open world such as rescuing black women who are slaves at brothels, and taking down white supremacist drug dealers and taking over the land to generate income. There is also a deep faction control which im yet to explore deeper where you can gain radio perks to 'phone in' a van that will allow you to purchase weapons, upgrades, and car mods. So far its up there around a 9/10 from me
    I was reading some uncompleted reviews and they seem to be focusing on graphics, and i think some people dont like how it depicts white people because its very confronting in how real and brutal it is. The cut scenes also show photos and some footage of real events which are very shocking. So i guess most people with no understanding of the impact of the past would find it offensive.    … Expand

    Great game, has some issues as a result of the limited fps. Anyone who says this games graphics are bad is a retard or just stupid. This game has one of the best facial animations i have ever seen. some areas in the game don't look as good as other but the game as a whole looks beautiful

    Not so perfect at all, this game have some bugs and 30 fps look for now.
    Fantastic game, buy it if you like mafia games or amazing games!

    This game is very good and graphics are not as bad as some make them out to be.story and character development is stellar. A lot have complained about driving mechanics. In the options you can select arcade or simulation. Get this game you wont regret it!

    Its true. Graphic is bad, animations awful. But a game isnt just this. A game is what you feel while playing. And Mafia III brings you the seventies as raw as they were. Like a Tarantino movie.

    This game deserves a way better score, it is ridiculous that people are raring this like this is the worst game to ever happen to humanity.

The game has heart and is genuinely gritty. It has that 60s feel with the down south roughness too it. Yes it does have a few technical flaws and minor issues. Yes the graphics are a bit dated but seriouslyDont really understand all the hate for this game. Mafia 3 is so far a fun, interesting, and very story driven game.     Excellent game, very good in an objective sense. Doesn't deserve the hate, they were before the update. No bugs, well made video game. Smooth graphics, sometimes the mailboxes in the game pop in too late when driving, breaks my immersion as a black hooligan from the Vietnam War.

Anyways the game is really good and worth a purchase, especially the deluxe edition that comes with the season pass. The guys @ Hangar 13 are super responsive and seem to be on the ball with updates and adding fan wanted content, which is awesome and notWow the trolls are out hard on this one. Also yes this is my first review and that is only because I've never felt compelled to write a review in the past but this game is being vastly underrated on this site. I will go ahead and say this is the best Campaign I have ever played. The story is deep here and is vastly untouched in the gaming industry. The issue of race has been extremely well here and you are going to feel connected to these characters. Now for the negatives. Their is no fast travel that is a bit annoying at times (hoping they add this feature soon). The Graphics here are not earthshattering, while the setting is amazing and the music score is great; clearly not the best graphics to date. What they did nail with the graphics are the facial animations, they are some of the best I've every seen in a game (if not the best). The gameplay mechanics are solid if not occasionally dated but honestly if something works then why fix it (Rockstar certainly hasn't changed)? My actual rating for the game is 8.5/10 for story coming so strong but gameplay occasionally feeling repetitive. This game though is a must play. (I'm giving it a 10 for the trolls giving this game 0's and 1's, which this game clearly is not)… Expand

    This game is simply amazing!. This is one of my favourite open world games of 2016. The game is so fun, the graphics are simply amazing, and so is the story. I think its way better than mafia 1 and 2. I would definitely recommend getting this game.

    Onto the Game itself the Music and Narrative are excellent, Gameplay smooth and Graphics excellent the Roads are stunnin' as always from 2K (don't forget to update your Display & Audio Settings!).

    I was a massive Fan of Mafia II so Mafia III has a lot to live up to, it's maybe not as immediate but so far Mafia III has impressed with it's quality and gameplay!

    No doubt I will be burnin' many hours on this, also a nice touch you get the Playboy Magazine incl. Covers this time around!    … Expand

    Been a fan of the Mafia series and this was a refreshing break from the classic 30s and 40s period to the 60's and early 70s. Story line, Graphics, sound track and game mechanics is top notch and the mission management screen is an excellent imaginative solution for a game rich with multiple missions.

    One hell of a game! Storyline and setting is absolutely superb. Graphics are beautiful as is the music. Has it's annoying flaws but those are ignored and over time are forgotten. For those people who vomit out the repetitiveness dribe clearly don't understand gaming. Ever heard of mining? It's no more repetitive than other games!

    Very great story, characters, etc. When I heard Hendrix's all aliong watchtower in main menu, I understand in that moment, this game can`t be bad. Indeed, it's have another dimenstion, very deep open world. Graphics is bad, just bad resolution and details. But I play games, not graphics, so it's really not the show stopper for me.

    Just set Anti-aliasing to Low and activate "sharpening" from nvidia control panel for this game, and the blur goes away, looks good.

    A very mature game with a very compelling story. The game story is very good and is a revenge dish best served any old way. If you can look past the surface brutal language, nudity and action, you will see a very real depiction of southern behavior in the late sixties married to a mob story. The developers even warn you that the game will be rough, but to tone it down would be to cheat people. Whitewashing history serves no one, people really behaved the way they do in this game no matter how you want to try and soften it. It is what it is.
    I like the cut scenes, where the story is being filled in, between what you are doing.
    The only negative I would say at this point is that there seems to be some technical issues. I saw some wonky lighting effects. I also saw some that were pretty neat, such as headlights off a wet street. I know they are trying, we have to accept that. For the most part they delivered well. I would also say that while the game looks good, it is not this gen great. It looks like it could be at home on the last gen consoles. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Considering how many companies are reaching back and profiting off of 8 and 16 bit type games. The most important thing is the story, which is really really good. I am playing on a PS4.

I'm sort of like a white hat in Westworld. It aslo helped that I played really slowly, cruising to the great soundtrack, obeying traffic rules, and exploring the city, like a virtual tourist.

The gameplay loop in Mafia 3 is old hat but it feels fresh. It's a labour of love. And it shows. Its only flaw are the reflections. Progression is tied to your underbosses ie perks, which is interesting. Being an old timer, the world building and the music bring me back to my somewhat muddy memories of childhood which is both a blast and nastalgic.

    Driving is very solid with good physics and a plethora of vehicle's to choose from. Word of warning tho, at this moment there is no garage to save vehicles in but there is an underboss who will provide rides of limited types that you can unlock.

    Combat is satisfying with a very good cover system but the early game I found a little tough due to ammo limitations. Thankfully I puzzled out the game mechanics very quickly (stealth matters!) and worked out the particulars in the very first combat heavy mission. No worries!

    The only gripe I have with the game is some but not all of the accents in the game are groan inducing, with Southern being the worst offender. Luckily I quickly grew inured to it. I hope this is of some help!    … Expand

    This game is amazing, the graphics and cinematography work great. the scenes and story is rich and detailed. don't listen to everyone giving this a low score they are mostly pc gamers and they always **** and moan, there is already a patch out for it and it has never crashed on me, so I say don't rent it just go straight to buying it.

    Two hours in and so far the story, acting and graphics are all very engaging. This is no doubt a high-quality open world gaming experience. So far the game is very good and I haven't even gotten to the full open map yet. It did crash once on me but probably just 1st day jitters so I give it a 9.

    Is this game perfect? No. Is it a masterpiece? Also no. But is it a game that attempts to tell a genuine and moving story of revenge with great motion and voice acting. Absolutely!

    I can only imagine that this is either, another case of Meta Critic vandalism, that we are starting to see more and more of late.     I tend to rate my games based on how long I can play in a single session without loosing interest. In the case of Mafia 3, I practically have to get torn away from the Console by my wife, or by my brain demanding that I GO TO BED!

    I am roughly 15 hours in, and am having fun with the great driving and combat mechanics. The missions seem varied enough and and because everything you do in M3 requires $'s I've been completing the side quests too. The dynamic soundtrack is effective at creating tension and the tracks from the late 60s really help set the scene.

    The game does have its issues, some here have mentioned stuttering, crashes and dropped frames. I have experienced all of these issues. On one occasion the game crashed completely, without warning. The lightning engine has its problems too, occasionally flashing brightly or going dark whilst driving. The rain is either heavy or non existent and can change in a heartbeat.

    Are any of these problems game breaking? not really, I certainly loose some of the Immersion that the developers have tried so hard to maintain. But over all this is a well crafted open world, that I'm just can't stay away from.    … Expand

    Love the combat and the atmosphere of the game. Mission structure isn't varied, but to me the combat is so fun I don't mind. Very fun game with incredible story and cutscenes

The main story is one of the best stories I have ever played, I fell in love with everyone in this game. The story is so good and deep that I could not stop playing it and kept going for hours.     But after sinking around 40 hours so far into this game, I don't know what is all that repetitive, this game isn't for everyone, albeit, it's mission variety to me, is excellent.

    Speaking on the "repetitive" missions, if this game is considered repetitive, so is nearly every other game in existence, as all games are basically, go to X location, clear enemies at X location, retrieve package at X location, meet at X location.

    I am just happy to see the involvement of the Black Panthers in here, as well as the rare opportunity to play as a Black man, which is as rare as a blue moon these days.

    Which is why I understand all of the negative reviews are just from racist people.

    I recommend this game to anyone who wants a strong story, with very great physics and game play.    … Expand

    Yes it's repetitive but so are other games. The Story the characters, the Music were really great.
    Yes, the playability and graphics aren't last Generation, but I got this game for FREE on PS+ so I can't complain.

    The main issue with the release of Mafia III is that the game was released unfinished with a lot of bugs and glitches. The Gunplay, Driving Mechanics, Sound Effects are great though.

    The graphics improved and bugs ironed out over time. HDR was added.

    I had a lot of fun and there is that replayability factor and a lot of value for money regarding things to do in the game. 9/10

    There are some bugs still. I noticed the sunlight and shadows going crazy sometimes. But they are rare and honestly the story is SO good it doesn't matter. Nice variety of cars and weapons. There were some very generic open world missions but to be expected from an open world game. Enough with all that the cars are very fun to use because they feel real and the car shooting is also very fun my favorite cars are the Sports cars because of how fast you can go. But it’s a shooter after all and it’s not a amazing shooter if it’s not bloody and lord have mercy this game is bloody. Even one pistol shot can splat brain matter everywhere and it’s amazing, the gun play is like a mix of Uncharted with the slow down mechanics from the Max Payne franchise. I haven’t played the other games but this is the one to play. It’s a very fun game of revenge and it has a great style of storytelling but the racism is a bit shocking but if you can look past that you will find a good game that is just a bit too long. Support this game even though unfortunately the studio shut down due to low sales of this game.… Expand

    I will be quick. This is a great game with some flaws. The story, acting, design, visuals (graphics are at times mind boggling) is all top notch.

    What is missing, is some mission diversity, more difference amongst feeling or damage from weapons, and more overall customizations.

    This is a solid game and I am sure most people will like it.

    So if your a true gamer, you can forgive some of the small issues with the game and your after something that will give you a range of emotions unparalleled in gaming today. Then get this, buckle up and enjoy the ride of Lincoln clay.

    Its stealth is too repetitive, its gunfights too familiar, and its driving too boring to support anything else that’s going on. Despite how clever it manages to be in portraying the conquest and control of a criminal enterprise, the nuts-and-bolts missions feel like busywork, and it never fully explores the most interesting aspects of its setting. It’s better than Mafia II, but that’s damning it with faint praise.

    It could have been a really great sandbox for one evening. It’s a shame the developers decided to extend it by over a dozen completely redundant hours, because they had fresh ideas for around one fifth of the campaign and made the rest of the game repetitive as hell. [12/2016, p.48]
