    Although I understand why the original version of this game was praised for its captivating story and immersive atmosphere, I can't help but view this remaster as a missed opportunity. It's difficult for me to identify any notable improvements over the original version. The frame rate remains disappointingly low, and historical glitches persist.     MAFIA II DEFENETIVE EDITITON on PS4 has not so many bugs and glitches like PC version and it is playable - 8/10

    Those other reviews are outdated. Played on PS5 absolutely sick game! Looks feels and plays amazing. No woke B.S. allowing tough guys and pretty girls (even have uncensored Playboy mags you can collect). Such a pity might be years before we get a game even 1/2 this open and unpolitical again. The combats fun, the driving is amazing. The environment is spot on without giving anything awayThose other reviews are outdated. Played on PS5 absolutely sick game! Looks feels and plays amazing.     I bought the remastered trilogy of hearing for years nothing but praise for the series, especially the plot and characters, and wanted to give it a go now it's remastered.
    However I found the games incredibly dull and shallow. This is also true for Mafia 2 however the plot does start to get more interesting towards the end, but by that point I was waiting for the game to be over. The characters were 2 dimensional and the plot was daytime-tv level. The gameplay was pretty unexciting and run-of-the-mill. Also the remasters force creation of online accounts. I had instances where my game completely locked up on playstation because it mid-game asked me to create a 2k Account and I clicked the refuse button. I had to force close the game to be able to do anything. Then one time, whilst playing the game, I got screen lag whilst pressing buttons, only for a privacy policy screen pop up saying it wants to remove my privacy and do i accept, immediately followed by a thank you for accepting message.    … Expand

    A great game with a great story! The gameplay could be better, but I love the way the shots impact enemies. The framerate is clearly the game's most negative point, with some drops in FPS both during cutscenes and during gameplay. But overall it's a great game with great characters!

    Mafia 2 is a good game but nothing special. Overall I liked the story of part 1 better, part 2 did feel too similar and was not very original. The definitive edition sadly has lots of graphic bugs. Really sad that they are not fixing the warning Leo quest, the end of the quest when you reach his house is completely broken. It took me a dozen attempts and some game-restarts to make it work.Mafia 2 is a good game but nothing special. Overall I liked the story of part 1 better, part 2 did feel too similar and was not very original. The definitive edition sadly has lots of graphic bugs.     Was excited about this game as I've never had a chance to play Mafia II when it was released for PC ages ago. Truth be told, I absolutely loved this game. Whilst I can't compare the definitive edition with the original, I must say I greatly enjoyed it. Amazing story, much more superior to the one in Mafia III. There definitely are some bugs which need improving though: Sound:    *7.5*

    Truth be told, I absolutely loved this game. Whilst I can't compare the definitive edition with the original, I must say I greatly enjoyed it. Amazing story, much more superior to the one in Mafia III.

    There definitely are some bugs which need improving though:
    Sound: volume goes up and down constantly
    Glitches: mission 'Warn Leo' is buggy - lots of people are experiencing this
    Other bugs: objects like buildings turn into 'blue screen' for a second Combat: whilst not a bug, the combat system is ridiculous for this decade

    Despite a few bugs/gameplay issues, it was a much more enjoyable gaming experience than Mafia III.

    Very good game with an excellent story and pacing. Pretty much your run-of-the-mill story but handled and executed very well mainly due to the well written characters and well casted voice actors. Visually looks very good also.

    However the game's performance is severely lacking.     DLC is an absolute cheap cash grab. Gameplay is emphasised with a score attack mechanic, for what reason is unknown. Also that drive 1000 Miles trophy/achievement is an absolute joke for a DLC mode that lasts two hours tops and only clocks up to 50 Miles. Such a jarring decision to include it to not modify its requirements.    … Expand

    This is one of my favourite stories in gane in character drama, the gun paly is good and hefty and driving is good and it's fun to drive between the fourth and fifth cars , I think their story is one of the best in the Sandbox genre and you will feel some thing even if the main character and Joe are kind of awful people.     I love the original game. For the time when it was released it was just a masterpiece. But this defective edition is a crap. I prefer russian voice language, but it's sooooooo compressed, sounds like it's 32 kbps.
    It seems to me that the only things that were changed are new ugly character faces. Once I had a bug that completely broke the game - game level couldn't load fully and got    I love the original game. For the time when it was released it was just a masterpiece.     It still has some technical issues on PS4 (FPS drops, weird audio in cutscenes), but it's still Mafia 2, one of the best games of the early 2010s. 9/10 game, minus one point for the technical issues.

Is a **** disaster, I'm very angry, why, because when I was in the mission to save Leo but what I got here, it was absolutely disgraceful, I did that multiple times but when I found out, I'm not the only one who has **** problems, this edition is one of the worst games of my life, I saw many glitches and I will not playing this game ever again, if there's another one of crappy editions then I cannot trust this at all, the original doesn't get any better because it was one of fantastic games, but this edition...     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finalky i gave this game a chance and it was totally worth it for me. As an older gamer since the 90s(34 yrs), I found the game incredibly nostalgic. It reminds me of when games used to take story writing and pacing very seriously. What makes game worth it -The characters are interesting
    -The atmosphere
    -Attention to little details
    -Very nice to hve a game take driving in a city seriously

    Other things I liked
    -Beautiful cars
    -Throwback from post WW2
    -Collecting Pictures of real-life HOT models from the 50s almost naked


    What could potentially ruin it for you
    -The controls are unresponsive and laggy
    -Very low fps -Gamebreaking bugs(too many to list... but aiming and shooting is a nightmare in this game+ numerous story missions unfinishable and had to find exploits to go around them).
    -You might not finish the game due to bugs.
    -Game is a little too long
    -Too much driving back home to sleep after each mission

    -Atrocious shooting system: There is only one way to play this game: duck behind covers and wait 3 mins for each enemy to pop out so you can shoot them. Made the game a chore

    -Theres like only 3 the of weapon in the game
    -Too many cop cars. Seriously, you wont turn a corner without one driving past you
    -Horrifying checkpoint system(too few to make up for dying due to bugs. You will start over and over...



    Conclusion: ONLY get the game if

    -If you ADORE games with good story telling (pacing, narrative, meaningfulness)
    -You arent the type to rage quit due to EXTREMELY annoying bugs that will get you killed constantly

    I played this on PS5 and you know what? For a low enough price it ain't bad. Everything seems to be up to date visually, and the game mechanics are as good as I remember them. The only thing that takes this game down is 2 game ending bugs I had to work around. These still exist in 2021, which is unacceptable.

    So, if it's a low enough price I'd recommend buying it. Just beware of the bugs.

    The story is the biggest cliché in the world of the mafia, everything seen in mafia movies happens in the game with expected results, without emotion and the character cannot be flatter and boring.     The ridiculous collectibles the amount of them and they do not contribute anything

    The map is small and boring

    Минусы: очень слабый и вторичный сюжет; неинтересные и плоские персонажи; проблемы с искусственным интеллектом у полицейских; кроме технологии, Mafia 2 ничего нового по сравнению с оригиналом не может предложить.    Плюсы: уютная атмосфера Эмпайр-Бэя; отличная графика; высокий уровень интерактивности и разрушаемости окружения; первые сорок минут игры.

    Parasitism. The project is not completed yet, the terrible mechanics of conservation, permanent error. Permanent mission permissions and restarts. Why did you ruin a good finished product?

    Must have for any of my Gangstas out there! A bit unstable, dropping down to 25fps sometimes though unfortunately. Hopefully there will be a free PS5 patch to make it all look and play even better. 7/10

    I have been a big fan of the original Mafia game back in 2001 and the original release of Mafia 2, I absolutely love both games for their story, setting and (for their time) fun shooting mechanics. So this is not a review for the game itself, for which I would give a solid 8/10. This is a review concerning the "efforts" or lack of put into this so    Note: Review for the BASE PS4 only.

    I have been a big fan of the original Mafia game back in 2001 and the original release of Mafia 2, I absolutely love both games for their story, setting and (for their time) fun shooting mechanics. So this is not a review for the game itself, for which I would give a solid 8/10. This is a review concerning the "efforts" or lack of put into this so called "definitive edition". To make it quick, here is a list of my problems:

    - Framerate: I just can't believe how poorly optimized this game is. EVERY time you are out driving in the open world (which you do a lot) the framerate can drop TO THE SINGLE DIGITS! This happens for some reason every time you make a turn, and quite frequently when just driving down a straight road. This is just unacceptable and just straight laziness on the devs side.

    - Visual bugs: So, while I can forgive the pop in at distance (which is very predominant in this game), the visual glitches do bother me a lot. When you enter the second part of the game, summer season, you get this constant glitch where building, streets or just chunks of the screen wont load, and instead you get for a few seconds this black/purple/green fillings, it just breaks the immersion.

    - Sound: This is a big WTF. I have a Yamaha Dolby Atmos receiver and I love playing all my games with surround sound...until this game. First of all, EVERY cutscene in this game is IN MONO with a horrible sound quality that raises the volume so loud that me speakers nearly exploded, just horrible. In-game sound is also just horribly mixed. The gun sounds are very underpowered, same with the FX sounds and sometimes is just hard to listen to the dialogue. Again, unacceptable.

    - Sound bugs: Yes, the sound also glitches in this game. Tracks from cutscenes sometimes keep looping in the game, and the only way to make them disappear is to get into a car and turn the radio on.

    So there you have it, it's just an unfinished, unacceptable product that comes out as a quick cash grab for the studio.

    Unfortunately, this version of Mafia II feels like a barely-touched-up version of a last-gen game that constantly tested my patience and despite my love for the script, I can’t recommend that anyone play through hours and hours of a mediocre, buggy mess just to see the cutscenes. In its current state, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is not worth a player’s time or money — without any further improvements or substantial patches, this one needs to sleep with the fishes.

    The remaster of Mafia II remains a great opportunity totally missed by the publisher to turn the bad memories, softened anyway by nostalgia, into a new worthwhile adventure. Instead, we received a console port put together haphazardly and without any care or consideration. The Definitive Edition of Mafia II dooms the game to go down in history as an experience that went from bad to worse.
