    A lazy remake that only improves graphics and voice acting without bothering to update the mechanics at all. Maybe refer to Capcom with Re2 and Re4 Remakes when you try to make an actual remake.

    i liked MAFIA: DEFINITIVE EDITION more than i thought i would!
    at the start of my playthrough, i had some feelings about it just being another open world game, gta clone, but im glad i stuck through to the end and finished the game. The narrative and refined graphics are definitely the highlights of the game. I found myself really immersed into the 1930s setting and found the whole    i liked MAFIA: DEFINITIVE EDITION more than i thought i would!
    at the start of my playthrough, i had some feelings about it just being another open world game, gta clone, but im glad i stuck through to the end and finished the game. The narrative and refined graphics are definitely the highlights of the game. I found myself really immersed into the 1930s setting and found the whole mobster gang theme to be quite cool and a reflection of american culture at that point in time. The linearity of the game actually brings out the best in it because i was afraid of just doing fetch quests and meaningless side missions, so to have a direct approach and storyline felt great to follow. Combat with various guns was alright, the enemies really like to shoot you JUST when you get into cover, so when you are low on health this can be highly annoying. But nothing too offensive about the game, i seriously enjoyed this game alot.    … Expand

    The game causes different feelings - the story and the characters are interesting and alive, but the technical side of the game leaves much to be desired, for me.

    But my score is 7 because there were much more good emotions while playing it: the atmosphere, the relationships between characters and etc. The gameplay and the graphics are really from PS4, so I think it plays the role.     Short but solid game. There are no sidequests so, unless you are wasting your time it should take you about 12 houres to beat the game or so. From the middle to the end it's easy to die or fail a mission a couple or 3 times in normal mode. I ended up changing to easy in the last chapters. Maybe if you play in easy mode can take 10 hours. The game is good and as it doesn't have sidequestsShort but solid game. There are no sidequests so, unless you are wasting your time it should take you about 12 houres to beat the game or so. From the middle to the end it's easy to die or fail a mission a couple or 3 times in normal mode. I ended up changing to easy in the last chapters. Maybe if you play in easy mode can take 10 hours. The game is good and as it doesn't have sidequests you won't be distracted from the story. In my opinion it deserves an 8. If you haven't played to many games maybe your score will be higher. I beat this game in a weekend but you could probably beat in a day on an intensive gameplay.… Expand

    Its a decent remake, gameplay is fine and the story is still very compelling.

    The open world design however is just dated at this point and there isn't really much to do other than about 10 hours of main story.

    As Mêcanicas do personagem, das armas e dirigindo carros e motos são bem travadas. Principalmente a movimentação e a mira são bem lentas.
    Os pedestres e os carros reagem muito bem quando voce está dirigindo. Por exemplo, quando você está em alta velocidade e/ou buzinando os carros abrem passagem.

    The good - I like the 30s setting and they did a good job with it. - The story and characters are just good enough to stop you skipping cut scenes. - There are good options for difficulty, driving and aiming. - The driving feels good. The cars have a good sense of speed and a real weight and momentum to them. You can slide and spin the wheels in the more powerful cars.    5.7/10

    - Weird visual issues.
    - It crashed once.
    - Sometimes loading would randomly take much longer.

    Mafia: Definitive Edition isn’t very good but it’s worth a play through if it looks like your type of game.

    Mafia: Definitiva Edition es una buena remasterización ya que los gráficos con respecto al anterior son bastante buenos.
    Lo mejor de este juego es su historia, algo previsible pero la forma en la que la cuentan es excelente, llegando a encariñarte con ciertos personajes por el carisma que tienen. Las mecánicas son también buenas, especialmente la de conducción ya qu es bastante    Mafia: Definitiva Edition es una buena remasterización ya que los gráficos con respecto al anterior son bastante buenos.

    Sin embargo, el movimiento del personaje es algo tosco, siendo complicado moverse por espacios pequeños. La principal debilidad de este juego es su IA, porque a veces se hace bastante frustrante, especialmente en la misión de escapar de la iglesia.

    The game has great graphics and impressed me for the time the original has been realead. But the plot is Very tragic, its just bang bang, and a táxi driver from day tô night is a professional killer. Ita a great game, but not perfect.

Unfortunately quite short, finished in 12 hours at 'Hard' difficult. Maybe they could try something more open word-ish. And seriously, they should remove race mission.     The picture is very juicy, a lot of small details, beautiful sky, reflections on cars, etc. The story has not changed much, only new dialogues have been added. Missions have been reworked a lot and feel better. However, shooting spoils everything. It is very inconvenient to aim, not very pleasant to shoot, the thompson is just some kind of joke.

    Great story with a perfect structure - - each chapter is about 30-60 minutes long. Loved playing 1-2 chapter every night for half a month or so.

    Gameplay isn't the best but it is serviceable. And the game does have some performance issues on base PS4 - - some screen tears and some fps loss here and there but it's not too awful, I guess. El juego tiene algunos bugs, pero no entorpecen la experiencia. Mejoras en cinemáticas, tiroteos, han convertido el juego de hace 20 años en uno prácticamente nuevo.     Es una aventura de acción lineal, con una historia atrapante, buena conducción, tiroteos, cuerpo a cuerpo, sigilo, un mapa muy bien elaborado. Es muy realista, lo que provoca una gran inmersión en el juego.

    La duración es en mi opinión perfecta, unas 10-15 horas.

    Si no has jugado mafia es una buena oportunidad para jugarlo con mejores gráficos entre otras mejoras, y si ya lo has jugado es buen momento de revivirlo, lleno de nostalgia, porque la historia es la misma, aunque agregando diálogos para profundizar en la historia.

    No voy a hacer spoilers sobre la historia, os puedo asegurar que es muy buena, te sentirás todo un mafioso como su nombre indica.

    Horrible buggy mess with sluggish controls, bad physics and downgraded gameplay from the original. The only improvement is obviously graphics, everything else is inferior.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Esse jogo é uma aula de como fazer uma edição definitiva. Não só na parte dos gráficos e sim a mudança de direção em certas partes, como a câmera do jogo que melhorou bastante em comparação ao primeiro jogo e certas cenas do jogo que deixaram os momentos mais épicos ou surpreendentes, as expressões faciais são maravilhosas, pois você consegue ver a tristeza, raiva, felicidades dos personagens, um bom exemplo disso e no final do jogo, onde Tommy no jogo original ficou surpreso com a chegada dos capangas com uma arma, no remake, o Tommy pelo seu rosto, já sabia que isso iria acontecer algum dia e aceitou.
    Meu únicos problemas com esse jogo são os controles e alguns bugs de textura, modelos, etc. O controle dos carros e o controle de mira não são muito satisfatórios, como por exemplo GTA V que tem controles muito gostosinhos de se jogar, o dos carros eu consigo até passar um pano pois o jogo se passava na época da depressão economica dos Estados Unidos e os veículos daquela época não eram tão simples de se dirigir, mas mesmo assim é difícil de dirigir pela primeira vez, principalmente quando você chegar na missão da corrida (eu tiver que fazer mais de 10 resets). Não é uma coisa que estraga, é mais uma coisa que você se acostumar com o passar da gameplay. Em questão dos bugs, os bugs que mais apareceram na minha gameplay, são mais bugs dos modelos e texturas, como por exemplo: o mapa do jogo parecer um jogo de Playstation 2 do nada (problema de renderização do mapa) personagens ficando invisíveis, personagens olhando para a parede, etc. Mas foram poucos bugs que me apareceram durante minha gameplay.
    A história é a mesma do jogo original, só com algumas diferenças, excluindo certas coisas que tinha que fazer nas missões originais do Game, e adicionando coisas novas, como por exemplo que tenho que elogiar, partes do jogo com um sistema de stealth, como por exemplo a parte que a gente vai no aeroporto pela primeira vez, no jogo original era um tiroteio, no remake você pode completar o capítulo sem ser detectado.
    É um jogo muito bom mas recomendo comprar principalmente numa promoção ou pagando uma assinatura de streaming (Playstation Plus Extra ou Deluxe, Xbox Gamepass, etc).    … Expand

    I hate car race games in general. The game forces you to do a stupid race in the story mode as the main mission! And there is no SKIP!
    I cannot believe that the developers ignored this obvious point!
    So I deleted the game. Good that I got it as the monthly free game in PS plus!

    A remarkable upgrade to an already classic game. A throw back to when games had no filler and were a thrill ride from start to finish. A gripping story that still holds up today. Well worth playing for fans of old or someone looking to try something new. The gameplay isn’t groundbreaking but the story is compelling enough to carry this game on its own.

So in November of 2020 I played the Definitive Edition on my ultra PC and I enjoyed it a lot because I could run it at 60 FPS all maxed out at 3440p. Now in February of 2023 I got it for free on PS Plus and I played it again on PS5. The graphics, the story and the characters were as good as always, even better than the original game. There are so many sh**ty games that give the player a whole continent to explore with nothing to do, where the player is almost forced to do 400 useless/meaningless fetch quests just to make the game longer and worth the 70$ price tag. A 10 hour linear game is what we need to breath again some fresh air and to appreciate quality ofer quantity. In the last 3-4 years a massive REMAKES movement has risen and the best thing is that we get the chance to replay the best games ever created on new platforms with all the goodies. Mafia Definitive Edition is by no means a masterpiece or a game to be remembered for generations, but a good game which will stand out from the thousands of TIME WASTERS called video games released in the last decade. A good advice is not to buy a game that costs more than 1-2$/hour of pure Story Mode (e.g. 10 hour of story mode = maximum 20$). Why to pay 70$ for a game at release when you could have the same experience at half the price or less one year later. Don't worry, the devs will not be poorer, just their greedy bosses. A company is nothing without its employees. RESPECT YOUR TIME, YOURSELF AND YOUR MONEY.… Expand

Driving is also not good and I have heard it was bad back then as well. I suppose this is a Mafia specialty as I’d think they would have fixed it by their third one. The story is linear and there are no free roam activities to deal with. The story is goodWhen I was playing through this game I thought this game was a remaster. The story starts mediocre and continues to be the same until roughly halfway through when the pace is picked up and the stakes/tension rises. The driving is fine, the shooting is fine, and the game crashed as I was finishing the few side quests that the game has to offer so I lost all my progress. Mafia only crashedMafia has a high peak but a peak that isn't reached often or for long. The story starts mediocre and continues to be the same until roughly halfway through when the pace is picked up and the stakes/tension rises. The driving is fine, the shooting is fine, and the game crashed as I was finishing the few side quests that the game has to offer so I lost all my progress.     Classic mode race. Complete and utter bs garbage. The only trophy I had left was to beat the game on classic mode. Forget about that, some of us have lives to get back to.

    Meio Páia, Meio Bunda, só Tem Gráficos, Direção dos Carros Horrível, Tiroteio Péssimo, Animações das Lutas Direto do PS2, Não sei se a Versão original é páia assim, se for é zoado.
    Aliás os Gráficos tem Pontos negativos que com certeza já falaram aqui, de Primeira Vista me impressionaram, e História bem Fraca, Nem Parece que é um Jogo de Mafia! Péssimo.

In fights, ammo is scarce and I find myself dying due to a lack of ammo and using my pistol more than anything else. The scavenger hunt of magazines are introduced poorly. However, the story is gripping with twists andMafia is a good game and if your looking for a game and your just focused on the story, this is perfect for you, however. Outside of the missions there is nothing to do. In fights, ammo is scarce and I find myself dying due to a lack of ammo and using my pistol more than anything else. The scavenger hunt of magazines are introduced poorly. However, the story is gripping with twists and turns everywhere and you will feel enthused to play more.     Recently got this free with PS Plus. In the very first level you have to drive over a bridge. But the game didn't recognise that I had driven past the checkpoint marker. GLITCH. So I paused the game and selected 'Reset Checkpoint.' But it didn't reset me to being in the car, it put me on foot even though I had not yet done a walking mission. GLITCH.     Remake of old school badass game. And its really good and amazing remake. Immersion in mafia world is simply amazing. From taxi driver to gangster of renown. Music and graphics are amazing. Gameplay is litle bit simpler but still good. Overall 8/10.

    Great story and characters but gameplay (especially shooting) needed work. I love the graphics and the world that was built but the shooting especially on harder difficulties kind of ruins the experience.

    Pretty fun game with solid gameplay, held back only because it is a bit lacking in substance. If you like the Mafia games this is a good one to experience just to start off the trilogy.

    I bought the remastered trilogy of hearing for years nothing but praise for the series, especially the plot and characters, and wanted to give it a go now it's remastered.
    However I found the game incredibly dull and shallow. The characters were 2 dimensional and the plot was daytime-tv level. The gameplay was pretty unexciting and run-of-the-mill.

    (9) Superb. Just shy of gaming nirvana, this score is a high recommendation because the game reviewed is head-and-shoulders above its competition.

    This is definitely a good example of a remake done right. Everything has been improved compared to the older version of the game. I had a good time playing this game. The only draw back for me goes towards the story jumps, where I don’t think the director did a good job at explaining what happened during in between these jumps throughout the game so the player is trying to relearn what’s going on, on the fly.    … Expand

The way the game showed the friendship of Sam, Paulie, and Tommy and then how it crumbled at the end had me crying. If you are looking to buy this game or wanting to see what it's all about, play this game. Please play this game I beg you. It's too underated to be such a good game. When driving around and listening to the radio you feel as if you are really there. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is so fun it never got boring. The enviroments are incredibly detailed. Noire oder eben Mafia eigentlich wollen - uns nämlich eine Welt vorgaukeln in der wir interaktiv genau die Geschichte erleben, die der Entwickler uns erzählen möchte. Leider aber, und das fällt bei einem Action lastigeren Titel wie Mafia deutlich schwerer ins Gewicht als bei einem L. A. Noire, ist das Action Gameplay, meint vor allem eben die Deckungsshooter Mechanik recht altbacken und hakelig. Die Action Anteile des Spiels gefallen nicht so wirklich und fallen gar hinter viele Spiele der PS3 Ära wie etwa GTA 5 oder Uncharted deutlich zurück. Sehr schade. Hätte man auch hier ein moderneres, flüssigeres Gameplay hinbekommen, wäre das Mafia Remake ein Paradetitel werden können. So lebt das Spiel vor allem von seinen Schauwerten, der tollen Charaktere und Dialoge und der natürlich auch heute noch spannenden Story.… Expand

Some of the chapters are extremely tough to slug through because of the lack of checkpoints. Next, for a gangster game, there's an obvious absence of female characters. Tommy Angelo has one, but none of the other guys have girlfriends. No wonder they're so lonely. There's a compelling sequence where Tommy has to find a prostitute named Michelle in the hotel. It's dramatic and Michelle is plenty hot, but that's it. Twenty chapters and there's nobody home in the female department. Still, I found a lot to like about the game, especially the main character.… Expand

    The story is really good describing with a serious tone the rise of a former cabby in a 1930 mob's family in the fictitious city of Lost Heaven. All the clichés you can expect from
    a mob film are present and all of them work with well written dialogs spoken with dead eyes inside cigarette smoke clouds.
    A thing to point out is that Mafia is NOT a sandbox, it's a story driven third person shooter with driving sections inside a carefully crafted 1930's big city. You can drive inside missions but the city
    is not an open sandbox city, instead you can access it via free roam on the menu to collect the very interesting real pulp magazine while enjoying the radio stations. I would recommend to limit the HUD to the minimum via settings to have a more "realistic" feeling without the icons on the screen.
    The difficulty level by default is quite easy and the classic level it's much more enjoyable, although the infamous race will make you sweat and swear a lot.
    If you like this rare noir/mob games (L.A Noir, the Saboteur, Blacksad, etc), mafia definitive it's a must play.    … Expand

    It seems to me that the original game did not deserve this remake, the game is fun, but very linear for modern times, zero replayability, the missions do not bring anything new, and even remove some great things that the original had. If you haven't played the original, I would recommend it; but if you played and loved the original mafia, maybe you should expect the price to come down a bit.

    Great game! Loading times get a bit annoying but otherwise great story. the game is very linear, you play a scene exactly like the game wants you to then there will be a usually 2-3 minute long cutscene. I liked that but don’t recommend for people who aren’t into that sort of experience.

    It would be a ten for me if they had included some of the original radio tracks. The radio felt pretty dull while driving around in game, so ruined the exploration aspect of the game. Great radio tracks were the best part of the original and Mafia 2. That said, the story is awesome and the campaign is just great.     Mafia definitive edition is one of the best remastered games I’ve played. The graphics we spectacular. The story was kept raw and strong and had some amazing gameplay. If your into Cinematic third person shooters and drivers with an impactful storyline this game is for you. Best remake I’ve ever seen in a video game over a decade old!

I like the world and the city, they captured the 30s aesthetic very well in my opinion. I also liked that they put many real life references of that time into the world. I also find dialogue and facial animation to be on the better side compared to other games. Presentation within missions and the unfolding of the story feels a bit off at times. Shooting sections can get a bit annoying because of the controls, but nothing major. Never played the original, so I can't comment on anything concerning the quality of the game as a remake. The ending actually managed to get to me a bit, I'll never get over the fact that I put Ralphi in jail.

    In my opinion, this game works just fine as a kind of stand alone title as I've never played the originals and sparked my interest in the series successfully. 7 out of 10, played on PS5.    … Expand
