    It's so sad to see how far this series has fallen from its glory days. Madden the series used to mean so much to me and I as a kid I always used to fantasize how great the game will be in 10 years from now (2009). Today, Madden from a gameplay perspective just plays so poorly. It's not until you stop and watch the replays in your game and break it down do you see how horrendous this gameIt's so sad to see how far this series has fallen from its glory days. Madden the series used to mean so much to me and I as a kid I always used to fantasize how great the game will be in 10 years from now (2009). Today, Madden from a gameplay perspective just plays so poorly. It's not until you stop and watch the replays in your game and break it down do you see how horrendous this game is. There are no physics in this game, players go through each other all of the time. This game relies 100% on animations so how good you are at the game all depends on what random animation the game decides to give you. Unfortunately, Madden 20 doesn't do its self any favors to compensate for the poor gameplay. Franchise mode honestly has NOT been improved in the past decade. In fact, Madden 2005 blows Madden 2020 franchises mode out of the water, if you are interested to see how, go on Youtube and check out "SOFTDRINKSPORTS" channel and he has a fantastic Madden 2005 franchise video. The reason why Madden doesn't care about franchise mode is because they don't want their customers spending time in the mode, they rather you spend your time in a mode called ultimate team where they hope you will spend REAL LIFE MONEY on virtual crap. The game has fallen off of a cliff, if EA/Madden had competition in NFL video games, they would have to throw in the towel like they are currently doing with NBA LIVE, yup EA is done making NBA LIVE games because the game is trash and can't compete with NBA 2k.     Yeah, Franchise is still bland, the gameplay sucks, Ultimate Team is still the garbage Pay-To-Win **** Player Models are still the same, shoulder pads are way too big, even if you put them down all the way. And guess what?! They still charge 60 dollars for a patch on their older game. Can't wait until Maximum Football comes out...

I've played Madden since 05 and I knew I've had enough of this game when Joshua Dobbs has a 90% plus completion rate with over 400 yards and 4 TDs against me. If you're like me and want a realistic game with realistic gameplay, values and other variables, this is one ofEA changed the 19 to a 20 and threw this garbage heap out to us. If you're like me and want a realistic game with realistic gameplay, values and other variables, this is one of the worst Madden games to date. Gameplay scripting, animation glitches, no changes to franchise whatsoever, QB1 mode is horrible, cringey, and lost interest in it in 2 days... all EA cares about is MUT and making money off of that. Unrealistic animations, player awareness (specifically defensive players and o-linemen), atrocious offensive line blocking, defensive zone coverages and tackling animations that make you want to slam your head against the wall. CPU is overpowered and unstoppable in the sim both offensive and defensive wise. CPU defenders will stop on a dime, turn around with their backs to you at first, not even looking at the receiver or ball and pick you off even if you made the right read passing. You're telling me 5 yards of separation on a curl route with a perfectly timed route, throw and read will result in an interception. Mind blowing.… Expand

    Trash... look at its score, the game speaks for itself. Exact same madden as 2019. A couple of updates and a piss poor QB1 : Franchise mode that’s garbage. I’m sick of spending my money on this and realistically if there any other nfl football games out I WOULD NEVER buy another madden again.

    Madden has reached a new low. Unbelievably glitchy, inconsistent, frustrating and sometimes downright baffling gameplay, and a criminal lack of attention to detail. As a dude who grew up loving and playing these games, I can say with 100% certainty that I am never buying another madden until EA actually gives half a s**t about their product.

    The worse Madden to date! EA continues to show they are more focused on soaking people's wallets via microtransactions than they are on creating a good game. Franchise as gotten worse and the game now has more bugs in it than Madden 19. After being promised that Madden would be bug free we found out that's a lie. Stay away from this dumper fire of a game.

The running is EXTREMELY overpowered, you pretty much get punished for passing the ball, zone defense is terrible and tackling is 10 notches below horrendous.     Just ignore all of the bad reviews, if you're a die-hard Madden fan then you'll love this game! Each year Madden just gets better and better, though the music is a bit lackluster this year that doesn't take away from the exciting hard hitting action! Get in the game!!!

Buggy as hell, absolutely no depth, the entire marketing for this game is literally just features they’ve removed and put back in (Pro Bowl we all know existed before, the “X-Factors” are just repackaged “weapons”, and QB1 is just an extremely watered down BEGINNING of them giving us Superstar mode back). The gameplay is slightly improved from 19, but(Tl;Dr at the bottom) Where to start. Buggy as hell, absolutely no depth, the entire marketing for this game is literally just features they’ve removed and put back in (Pro Bowl we all know existed before, the “X-Factors” are just repackaged “weapons”, and QB1 is just an extremely watered down BEGINNING of them giving us Superstar mode back). The gameplay is slightly improved from 19, but that’s not impressive whatsoever considering 19 was a step DOWN from 18. Still can just run cross-routes and inside zone the entire game with no problems. This game is terrible. EA does not care about us. A prime example is shown by the fact that on the practice field, it still has a banner that still says “Madden 19” on it, even after a couple patches. On top of this, when called out, they had to ASK what field it is, despite the practice field being the only field in the game that does not have full stands (which you can clearly see). It’s absolutely embarrassing. Stick to the 2k football games, Madden 10-12, or anything from the 360/ps2 days. Absolutely not worth your time or money. Horrific game considering the scale of the company creating it, hardly worth considering a triple-A title. Tl;Dr: Horrific video game, it’s depressing that we still have games from 15+ years ago significantly better than today’s game. Do not buy this game or any Madden until EA gets their **** together. We will not get a better game until people stop feeding into this. You’re better off anyways.… Expand

    -Players wearing practice jerseys and shorts during practice
    -Pricing food, parking, etc in franchise mode
    -I think you could create a fan as well
    -Offline fantasy draft
    -Chris Berman half time show (rumbling bumbling stumbling his way into the end zone)
    -Different game day announcers

    I could go on forever.

    Its obvious that they are pushing you towards their crappy MUT mode to spend more money. This game has regressed and anyone that says otherwise clearly never played older Madden games. At this point, you're paying $60 for a roster update. EA needs to lose the license so someone who gives a damn can make an actual football game.    … Expand

All of the "hype" around new and "revolutionary" changes are things that either have existed in the game before and was taken away, or is cosmetic and superficial. Aside from their cash cow MUT, this game is virtually untouched. Same gliches, same bugs, same trash menu system, same game, w/ a facelift. EA / Tiburon needI have played over 20 years of Madden, this game has become stagnant.     After trying the 10 hour trial, this is exactly what Madden 20's $60 (to $100 for you idiot MUT supporters) gives you , hence my first ever ZERO rating for anything on Metacritic. This has been the model for EA Tiburon's terrible Madden series that is in dire need of a complete top to bottom overhaul BADLY!

    Speak with your wallets those that are upset about this for years now, and those that are fine with this, YOU are ruining gaming by being compliant to this current corrupt Triple A gaming economy.     Alright, the face of the franchise mode is only 2 games long, I couldn't even have my own last name. Yet another player on the other team does. The gameplay feels a little better when I say a little I mean it. The throwing controls however are worse. I still can't get used to the mechanics they are honestly trash the pump fake is very annoying and causes me to get sacked when trying to throw a touch pass who even uses a pump fake in madden. Double tap the button and pump fake instead of touch pass. With that out of the way the game Is once again like the game before. Nothing has changed but a few minor things. This game is another cash grab and has so much lost potential the face if the franchise is a huge letdown and that is the only reason why I bought it. Franchise is even the exact same besides this super lame scenario engine.

The DB turn into Receiver animation is the worst **** I’ve ever seen. Even when I click on the Receiver to make a user type catch, the god damn CPU animation takes over. People glitch the same plays, same players. It’s not even football. I get in to grind challenges I cheese to win, then build a team that can’t win vs any money spent or really in general because the fumbles and game is so broken. So yeah, never ever reviewed a game, this is my first. Please do not buy this and please do not spend money on mut. It’s not worth it whatsoever. Go play ANY other game that will actually bring you enjoyment. Don’t break controllers or get frustrated you could have a stroke just because your player freezes halfway through the turf and the other team easily walks it past them. Just go buy another game. Any other game. Not this one. I haven’t even mentioned the degraded and inexplicably terrible franchise mode they have. It’s even more of a joke.     Garbage ass game. Receivers drop every pass, you have less than 2 seconds to throw the ball but quarterbacks have a full second throwing animation so you can’t make a proper read, and receivers still drop possession catches. Horrible game I promise do not buy

    I’ve been playing madden for 30 years. Extremely Disappointed. They simply repackaged Madden 19 into this. I rented it from redbox, played one game and returned it. EA clearly is looking for transaction revenues (new rosters and trading cards) at the expense of solid game development. Capitalism at its best. No pride in your product, just make as much as you can. Live off your name for years.

    The Madden franchise relies on probability and mathematical formulations rather than physics, meaning a ball is thrown up in the air to your best receiver who is wide open, he may drop it because mathematically he only has a 92% chance of catching it and a random number generator rather than user skill decides the outcome of many plays.

    Beyond the horrible unresponsive gameplay, every single menu is delayed, because it has to look through 10 years of bad code just to load a simple screen.

    This game ignores every mode to filter you into the Pay to Play mode, which preys on kids and adults with addiction tendencies.
    This mode is designed to make you spit out a never ending stream of money as new players are released daily, and unless you do not require sleep or any other activity other than playing this game, the only way to acquire them is by spending real world money to acquire coins which then turn into another digital currency and so on and so on.

    In the Madden 20 pay to play mode however, you cannot simply "buy" an item, you have to GAMBLE for lower items, then combine them into bigger items which can then be "auctioned" and combined to obtain an item.

    EA calls this surprise mechanics, but it is gambling. An average pack is $2-5 but better value bundles of packs can range up to $100 and absolutely nothing is guaranteed.

    If they advertise a limited time top tier card, the odds are approximately 1 in 4,705.903, to obtain that card in a random pack but they advertise a guaranteed mid tier card "or better", not revealing the odds, so you spend $1000 in a modern day carnival prize scam.

    In conclusion, this is a very poorly designed game. It has a ton of bad code piled on top of each other, the game play is extremely choppy and unpredictable and has numerous fundamental flaws, and they only mode they attempt to up keep up is designed to suck as much money as possible as fast as possible from your bank account.

    The critics may be paid to give Madden 20 a bunch of 8s and 9s but I'm not,

    Physics are a total mess. For every cool looking play you get 4/5 bizarre looking ones. The game is fun vs friends, but much less so vs the CPU. Madden 20 has a lot of psuedo difficulty....meaning you'll miss open wideouts randomly for no reason, your wrs will drop easy balla, & on face of the franchise your kicker will miss a tonal of field goals.     How so little effort can be put into improving a game is astounding. EA cashes in year after year on people who have never had the chance to see what a real football game could look like. Madden was best in '08 when they made it immersive. Thanks for the garbage, EA. It sure is in the game.

    I loved Madden so much for so long, since they can't make a game with any depth, I went ahead and bought an xbox original and PS2 so I can play games that are fun and make sense. Games that were made to seem like they actually cared about the players, not the same thing with the same problems year after year.

I’ve also had multiple losses online due to the lack of AI intelligence, Animation bugs, etc etc. players will catch footballs through CBs hands and the lack of the ability to challenge plays on the most crucial plays of the game is also infuriating. Why is the challenge function even in the game if I can never use it?? I lost a game because Julio Jones ran out of bounds and my defender stopped covering him thinking the play was over, only to have Julio Jones step in bounds, catch the ball, and be called for a touchdown. I couldn’t challenge the ruling in the field. And the lack of AI common sense also didn’t allow for a booth review, which would ALWAYS happen in REAL FOOTBALL, it cost me a game. And it’s really frustrating seeing this year in and year out. This is another cash grab, and will most likely be the last time I spend my hard earned money on a madden football game for the foreseeable future. I wasted my money this year for a cash grab from EA. Don’t do what I did. Save your money, time, and hours of frustrating heartache. Buy the new Call of Duty, Borderlands, or any other game than Madden. Trust me.… Expand

I can’t even make a list of everything wrong with this game. You have monopolized football fans and now the whole world hates you. Everything you added was shallow and not even fun!!!     This game has some of the worst Animations I've seen a sports game. It ruins the emergion when you're playing and players can't be tackled. I can't recommend any buy this game because of poor gameplay and lack of meaningful and depth game modes

MUT is still the best mode. Whinch isnt saying much. I do not enjoy it. But for hat its trying to put out. Its fine. But the game is still awful.     Added the ability to play pro bowl and superstar abilities. Both were features in older versions of madden. EA continues to remove features and add them back in later and call it new. Franchise mode takes a back seat again. They make millions every year and continue to put out the same game. Nothing will change as long as we continue to buy the games.

    First, for a franchise that boasts hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year, it's absolutely baffling that they have THE WORST create-a-player of any of the major sports franchises. And it's not even close. Even if the triple the quality of this create-a-player, they're still going to easily be the worst. So, if you're hoping to create a player that looks even somewhat similar to you, give up that pipe dream straightaway.

    Second, the one and only on-field improvement I've seen is that defenders are less likely to leap and deflect a pass with an unheard of vertical leap. They're a bit more realistic in that regard.

    That's it. That's the only improvement. Here's where it gets bad:

    The AI ball-carrier does not run on a smooth path. Instead, a "quick-cut" animation is played on the player model, to get the runner moving end zone to end zone quicker. The problem with that is sometimes the QB will lead the receiver so they can continue on that path and gain easy yards. Then ball-carrier will do this quick-cut animation and get annihilated by the pursuing defender, turning a sure multi-yard RAC into 0-1 RAC yards. It cheapens defense against the AI and ruins drives when playing Face of the Franchise, where you only control your QB.

    Defenders are still better at catching the ball in traffic than the receivers, which is frustrating. The only exception to this rule appears to be Tight Ends who can catch with a defender on their back. Every other receiver, even big, strong guys like Mike Evans, will drop passes that are already secured in both hands, if there's any kind of contact. There's also a bunch of canned animations that are designed to make it appear as though the defender is batting the pass away as it hits your hands. It's extremely frustrating.

    Ball-carriers will NOT reach for the first down or the goal line. Not even a little. Think about how many times in an actual NFL game a runner will reach the ball forward for the extra yard when going out of bounds, or diving for a first down, or trying to get across the goal line. This is completely unacceptable in 2019.

    AI ball-carriers will juke players that are actively getting blocked, allowing pursuing defenders to close the gap and bring them down, rather than alter their running lane for easier yards. They often ignore the wide open field, more concerned with the closing defender than altering their path to lead away from the defender to the open space and pick up the yardage. The AI ball-carrier will even juke AWAY FROM A FIRST DOWN to avoid contact. It's incredibly idiotic.

    Receivers will sometimes not enter into catch animation sequences, causing them to appear clueless as to what to do with that oblong spheroid that was just chucked into their chest. Defenders will occasionally jog, instead of sprint, when pursuing ball-carriers - which is frustrating when they're the last defender between the ball-carrier and the end zone.

    Speaking of animation sequences - the game triggers the "tackle-by-the-facemask" animation sequence entirely too often. We're talking 6-8 times per game (5 min quarters, default penalty settings). In fact, the overwhelming majority of penalties are facemask, with offensive holding a distant second.

    The last thing is that the presentation is just a minimal effort. You really yearn for the "good ol' days" of console football games, where they tried to make it seem like some sort of TV broadcast with a pre-game, half-time, and post-game show. It's been years since we've had that. I don't have any hope that it will return while EA Sports has the lineup.    … Expand

Face of the Franchise is basically Franchise mode but only with cut-scenes in the beginning (might I add not great). Nothing is as good as it used to be as it was in Madden 07.     Animations are bad, and transitions to those animations aren't any better for today tech.
    The halftime show is still forgettable
    There is no weekly wrap-up show
    The injury presentation isn't realistic for a franchise concept
    Players use game day jersey in practice mode.
    There are still some gaffes in stat tracking
    Even the training and development aspects I complimented could be better if presented with more flair.
    You still can't create a team
    Still missing the sandbox options like complete relocation, rule changes and league expansion.
    You also can't watch a game in franchise mode
    Franchise mode is washed.
    No historical stats
    Create a players is completely dated.
    Graphics aren't evolving.

    Defensive AI is still horrible, blocking AI, all AI isn’t basically mentally disabled. It’s ok to play because it’s the only recent new football release. But EA have too much money and resources available to put out such a poor game. But well it looks good and the game sites and magazines still give glowing reviews.

    Game is boring and stale even with the "new" x factor. It is also very glitchy and seemes like you get cheated out last minute by impossible or improbable plays.

    This game is bad. I'm no internet troll and I love alot of games critically reviewed as bad, but the gaming websites are clearly in EAs pocket to give this game decent reviews charging 80 bucks (Canada) for this game is disgusting. Not to mention the micro transactions

    I laughed the entire time playing this game. It’s sooooooo glitchy a lot of the times they would tell me I got a touchdown when I never crossed the goal line and the animations are terrible.

    The best Madden since the PS2 days. Gameplay is the most balanced it has ever been. The offense is definitely OP out of the box. EA still doesn’t tune very well. You’ll still see far too accurate quarterback play, CPU that doesn’t run the ball well and All Pro mode that is not difficult enough and All Madden mode that cheats. New X factors are cool and give the players more separation.The best Madden since the PS2 days. Gameplay is the most balanced it has ever been. The offense is definitely OP out of the box. Physics are barely present in the game. Gang tackling is basically no more than 3 players. Kicking is still the same. Very easy and gimmicky. Kick blocks are predetermined in a way and do not happen organically through physics and ratings. Long time legacy problem Linebacker lurk is gone! Franchise mode is weak and embarrassing at this point. No coordinators, no injury wear and tear system, shallow scouting, shallow draft, shallow historical stats, QB rushing stats are broken and no 5th year option still on contracts. New scenario engine is a great idea but shallow and doesn’t even work for CPU controlled teams! Gameplanning is worthless and shallow. Another great idea added was fog of war for rookie dev traits but yet another poorly implemented idea. It doesn’t hide all dev traits and the way to unlock is broken at launch. Worst of all though is the draft animation for dev trait is still in the game so even though the trait is hidden the animation gives it away! EA can do better.… Expand

You’d think a game that makes over $800 million on just micro transactions would be able to make a smoother running game. I’d rather play madden 06, it literally had more features. Then you have idiots from EA saying they can’t add more helmets to the game because of video memory?!?! Mother **** You had over 100 helmets in the NCAA games on **** PS2s?!?! **** this game man.     I couldn’t force myself to even buy the game so I waited for my cousin to buy it and thank goodness I didn’t...it really is a carbon copy of last years game...please someone who’s in charge let’s let 2K games make an NFL game!

    Madden NFL 20 is still one of the best videogames if you want to simulate any sport but it's very clear that it needs more: more graphics, more gameplay changes, more news in its modes... X-Factor is a good new, but still insufficient to sense that gameplay is different that last year's edition.

    Madden NFL 20 takes a step in the right direction and I really enjoyed the X-Factor additions to the series. While I still think some form of competition would force EA to make more drastic changes, I’m not optimistic with any developers taking a spin with the football genre (maybe the XFL?). If you haven’t caught the pigskin for a few seasons, Madden NFL 20 is the right route to run for this year. With the new consoles coming (most likely) next holiday, I’m looking forward to seeing what EA builds upon from Madden NFL 20 and brings over to next gen. For now I’ll enjoy taking the Broncos to the Super Bowl, while beating up the cover pretty boy, Mahomes (not bitter at all).
