    Absolute rubbish from EA yet again, never ever ever buying Madden again, just gonna wait for 2K to release a real football game no matter how long that will take I'm willing to wait.

    Madden 20 is frustrating. In some ways intentionally, in others incompetently. The game is a shadow of its former glory, but occasionally it is just good enough to raise my hopes for the future of sports video games. That being said, this is still a cynical, low effort, shakedown that EA has done for the last five or six years, and until they get better, we should not give them credit.Madden 20 is frustrating.     The gameplay of Madden 20 is close to being great. Momentum feels great in the game, and running in the open field is an amazing feeling, but this is perhaps a little too strong, as swerving back and forth can make the ball carrier nearly invulnerable to tackling. Defense also feels more fun than ever before, with playing in the secondary being much more manageable than in the past, and there are few feelings in gaming more satisfying than jumping a route and seeing "user lurk". However, this emphasis on the secondary can be pretty easily exploited with a quick circle + triangle combo when passes are thrown to get some pretty cheesy user picks. Also, the tackling is often not sticky enough for my liking, and I find myself letting the CPU finishing tackles more than I'd like to admit as a seasoned Madden vet.
    Offense is why we play the game, and it feels mostly good this time around. Quarterbacks feel unique enough that once you play with an elite passer it's hard to go back to a mediocre one (sadly for a Jets fan like myself). The running is rewarding to patient players, as sprinting in the backfield is penalized by the front 7 blowing through not yet established blocks. Breaking off a 20 yard scamper for finding the right gap on a zone concept is one of the more fun parts of this game. The hardest part of the game to balance is always rushing QBs, and this game does a few things to compensate. Fumbles run rampant for quarterbacks on the second level, and while frustrating, after a few games players can adjust to needing to slide and avoid direct hits from good tacklers. Containment is stronger in this game than most, and if there are any notable players on the D-line escaping the pocket is no easy feat. This mostly prevents getting cheesed by some 85 speed quarterback for 200 rushing yards, but the downside is that playing with a non-mobile qb puts you at the mercy of the CPU from getting sacked on half of your dropbacks.
    Now onto why the hate is pouring in, the game modes. Career mode is Face of the Franchise, which is fun, but really only warrants about a season of play before it feels like you've seen what there is to be seen. The college feature is a fun addition, but there are two key problems here. For starters, very few colleges are available to play for, with none being included from my darling, the Big Ten. The college mode is also unavailable outside of FOF, and this feels like a fun extra that could easily have been included without having to rely on weird user created workarounds.
    Connected Franchise is skin and bones compared to what was once a great mode in the maddens of previous generations. Very few options to customize the league exist, little personalization is available to make your adventure feel special. Instead it really just feels like a way to play through a season with your favorite team, maybe as a created player, and make a few trades. The mode has tons of potential, and frustratingly we know exactly what it should look like because we can simply pop in any Madden pre 2015 or so.
    Superstar KO is the new mode of this game, and it's a breath of fresh air. Before the game begins you get to pick out 3 superstars to lead your team, along with a coach who ultimately decides your playbooks and points of emphasis. Then a single elimination tournament is entered, with each win earning another superstar. The mode leads to some pretty decent rewards to be redeemed in MUT, and the strange college overtime like style works very well in the high octane offensive style of Madden 20.
    MUT is a shakedown for money above the $60 you likely spent on the game and I won't dignify it by calling it anything more.
    Honestly the best game mode in this is just the simple head to head online. Connection is usually good, and after a few games you'll likely be in the right skill bracket and play mostly close games. The fact that this extremely simple mode is not a good sign for Madden, but with 2k making a football game next year maybe we can see some competition. But probably not. **** you EA.     It seems like EA invests as little as possible every year into this game because they know they have a monopoly over nfl video games. Every year it seems like a copy and paste with slightly better graphics and maybe a new feature here and there that doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of the actual quality of the gameplay. EA does not listen to the community because they don’t need to. There is no competitor on the market that poses a threat to EA so they continue to put as little resources as possible to gain the most profit. At this point it’s so obvious and people still backing this game and EA just don’t know football. This game is terrible. I truly hope a new football game comes around because this game is almost unplayable. Do not buy.… Expand

    Animations have been the same since Madden 15. Hell, even 25 was smoother! The announcers have also been the same since 17, and their voices repeat the same line over and over! Even they’re new game mode “QB1 Face Of The Franchise” is awful. Graphics and voice acting are both cheesy, you can’t pick a jersey number, and the entire story is just barebones. You play in 2 college games and get drafted into the NFL and the story ends. REALLY EA.

    Ultimate Team. That game mode is why EA sucks. They only care about profits and not gameplay. Why are MUT pack openers and EA in general so brain dead. Speaking of pack openers, half of the madden fan base are stupid kids who waste money on players who are “good”. That’s not even the worst part! A good player can cost up to $100 and your MUT stats reset to the next madden.

    However, I do like their new Superstar KO mode. It’s fun, but I still hate that you have to pay. This is legit proof that EA doesn’t care about nothing but money! REALLY EA? REALLY! Just don’t get this game. Just stick to the new NFL 2K games coming out next year!    … Expand

    Unbelievably unbalanced. The game just isn't worth your time. I've been playing the game since Madden 15 and it has gotten miserably bad. EA's scheme is logical. Give the big names the big abilities and everyone will be excited to use their favorite character. What that leads to is the devs not knowing how to implement these abilities, and a poor execution at fixing more major gameplay flaws.

All EA has to do is combine Superstar Mode from Madden 07, Franchise Mode from Madden 05, Gameplay similar to 2k08, Presentation similar to 2k5 and Madden 10, a physics engine and the graphics from today to make the best Madden ever.     One of the worst Madden games made maybe the worst. Basically just a copy and paste from the horrible madden 19 game. Franchise mode is basic and hasn't been touched in years. It seems like all the budget goes to Ultimate team, which doesn't make much sense since the game mode is already polished enough.

The game-play relies too heavily on animation and is OK at best, the franchise mode is weak with little historical stat tracking and limited options on how to actually run a football team.     To make a very long story short, Madden 20, like all of its predecessors on the current console generation, lacks depth. The game is shallow everywhere except for the Madden Ultimate Team mode, which is updated almost daily and receives numerous updates throughout the year. Unsurprisingly, this mode makes EA the most money by far.

    I did, however, give this game a "4", which means it has some redeeming qualities. The addition of X-Factor and Superstar players helps the game feel more alive and makes the good players feel good. I am not fond of the game-mode, but Ultimate Team is as good as its ever been. The franchise mode, which added a new scenario engine, is the best one we've had since Madden 12. Custom draft classes were implemented last year, and the Pro Bowl, which shouldn't have left in the first place, finally returned. Also, the new Superstar KO mode gives the Madden NFL series a little bit of that arcade-y feel that it's needed for a long time.

    Madden 20 is the "best" Madden game on current-gen consoles, game-play and depth wise, but we as frustrated players know that it can be so much more than a yearly cash-grab for EA.    … Expand

    Bad, bad game. Games fee scripted. If you go near a SS who is a star underneath him you will fumble the ball even if you cover it up. Joey Bosa will always get 5 sacks a game even if you double team him. I’ve played madden since 2003 and this is the worst one yet. Do not pay money for this game. We cannot allowing EA to keep making **** games.

    This game is quite literally the worst game I’ve ever played in my entire life. Most of my losses aren’t against my opponent, they’re from EA themselves! Let me explain. The general rule of any game, Madden specifically, is this: If your IQ of football exceeds to that of your opponent, you’ll know from the beginning of the game and you should automatically be put in a position to winThis game is quite literally the worst game I’ve ever played in my entire life. The general rule of any game, Madden specifically, is this: If your IQ of football exceeds to that of your opponent, you’ll know from the beginning of the game and you should automatically be put in a position to win because of your knowledge. You’ll know which defensive coverages will beat certain offenses, which offensive adjustments will beat certain defenses, and so on; That type of knowledge + some actual skill at the game should give you the win, but what lies between you and victory isn’t your opponents clutch genes, it’s the silly animations that EA has implemented in their game and the literal low IQ of the players on the football field. I cannot express how many yards I’ve given up simply because my defensive back wouldn’t make an effort to extend his arms to reach for the football when it was thrown directly to him. Many of the times, they won’t even jump. There has also been countless times when blockers will not block for a runningback or quarterback and will allow the tackle. Animations are a huge part of why players on the field have no IQ. If the game has already set forth the animation that is supposed to take place, nothing can stop it from progressing. This has caused a glitch in the game where even when the ball has left his hand, the quarterback will get sacked no matter what if the animation for getting a sack has ensued, (the ball will just warp back to his hands and he’ll be sacked). In this football game, your player could have just been tackled, fumbled the ball, the ball would then somehow begin to roll on his back for 30 seconds, he along with the person who tackled him would be stuck in an animation to stand up while 10 other players scramble for the ball, making a dogpile on his back as no one is able to pick the ball up and eventually, the ball is juggled 40 yards down field and your offensive lineman would end up picking the ball up at the 1 yard line. In other times, the ball would be dropped on your player’s head and he’d be cluelessly running in a circle with the ball on his head until another player grabs it or it falls to the ground. This is the silliness of this game. Any effort to win that you could make in this game could go straight out the window at any given moment. What I’ve mentioned in this review doesn’t even scratch the surface of how bad this game is mechanically and logistically. The MUT mode is basically just a gamble-fest for kids and EA loves it. EA is a money-hoarding company who could care less about this franchise, the proof is in the ratings.… Expand

They often scale back the quality of their various game modes to enhance microtransactions.     Glitches everywhere, making the game borderline unplayable. Microtransactions out of the ass in Ultimate Team making the game borderline unplayable. Lack of depth outside of Ultimate Team and Online Play now, making the game boring. By far one of, if not the worst Maddens released on the PS4/XB1 generation of consoles. Thank God 2K is coming back.

    Game is quite enjoyable, but is still riddled by many bugs and micro transactions. As long as the base premise is there, this game will always be fun to some extent, but the fact that this game still undergoes little change makes it hard to have a refreshing and enjoyable, long lasting experience with this game.

    This game is poorly made in every aspect. A lack of depth, playable gameplay, and replay ability makes this game have no fun to be had. The only mode it focuses on is Ultimate Team which is a pay to win and a micro transaction filled mess. This game is very deserving of a score of 0.

But my 90 overall receiver gets intercepted when they are ahead 4 to 5 steps. It's a wonder how teams that gets Molly whopped in real life, come up with spectacular wins on the game. The whole point of this game is to win.This game was a waste of money. The CPU gets an unfair advantage.     The games are all pre-determined. Oh you have a game winning drive? Nope, your NFL receiver will drop a wide open pass with no defenders in sight, because the game doesn't want you to win.     This isn’t a football game at all! They pay NO attention to how the game is actually played and put all their time and effort into MUT. Superstar KO is pointless. Franchise is still neglected. QB1 is pointless after your college games. Very redundant game thanks to scripted gameplay and horrible AI, which makes it boring after one season of franchise (if you even get that far).

The pass rush thing is kinda stupid because by the the you win the QB has already thrown down field. The CPU WR catch every 3rd down pass ( No matter how good the your DBs are.)     While the RyanMoody21 YouTube channel exposes just how fake fixed & garbage this game is. Allow me to explain further on this monopoly.

    The game is designed to keep you online as much as possible to increase the odds that you will spend money. Its best exploit is by not matching you up against players of your skill level or simply anyone, but they make sure that you play who they want you to play AND when you play, EA will help the team that they want to win. Why? I've never heard anyone explain this yet, but if EA can keep everyones record close to even, everyone will think that spending money to attempt to get just another player or 2 that they will be able to dominate and tip the scales on their winning percentage. It never works that way though. You still win the same amount. Your new player will perform like a true champion but other players will be slacking. The new players play hard for a month when released and then EA slows them down which makes you want to upgrade again and then you find yourself paying EA again.
    There's a number of different types of crypto currencies in the game except this is not able to be cashed in ever. It just serves to get you to again reach for your wallet.

    All of the different game modes that were a part of Madden and the fun things you could do before Ultimate Team took off are gone. You can play without Ultimate Team but Ultimate Team is EAs ONLY focus with the game.

The game has literally lost all of its smoothness. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 is because when you pause the game and have it hold a still frame, it looks nice graphically. But that is it.     It’s a buggy mess at times and EA only supports two of the modes for their game. It’s disappointing because it’s the only NFL game out there which is why people buy it. Madden Ultimate Team and Superstar K.O are the modes they pay the most attention to and they barely touch the other modes.

The passing is a joke, your WR can be wide open and your QB can be standing still and you dont even touch the stick just use a touch pass and he will throw it nowhere near the WR i wasted money on this game and i wont be buying another Madden game again

    This is the same Madden from 3 years ago with a new make up on the same pig. Are somethings better? Yes, but the majority of the game is basiclly a trading card simulator. Franchise mode has yet to see the depth it had in 2005-2008. Disapointing.

So; I went to EA.com and opened a case, they denied my case because apparently your social security number; bank accounts, phone numbers and addresses aren't enough evidence for their employees to use for verification. So I opened another one, they denied that one as well. Furious; as I could not play online or anything I called them; they answered with a robot lady that said to file a case (of which I already had twice); so I found another number and by some miracle was put on a waiting list for a call back. After waiting for a couple hours I got a call from a very nice lady who asked me; once again to open a case; I told her I had already multiple times and they were closed. She asked for more information; case numbers; etc... After a long wait she opened another case while speaking with another person who just so happens to be the person who closed my other cases. This person decided instead of picking up the phone of which I was on, to send me another email requesting more information; then requested I turn off all my privacy settings on my PS4 so they could send me an email. So I did; then it finally worked; except for when I logged back on the the PS4; it asks for email confirmation; but never sends any email. So frustrating;

    While it's not a huge step up from madden 18 (let's not talk about 19, that game was just trash), they did address my biggest gripe: not being able to consistently user defend the pass. Finally, my user controlled linebacker plays the ball in the air, almost always. That alone hugely improves my experience, so I'll give it a positive score.

    First, let's touch on the obvious. MUT (Madden Ultimate Team) is where the focus lies. So, if you like playing against your friends with a bunch of superstar current/former players (oh what fun to put my team with Jerry Rice and Joe Montana up against a million other users who have those players) then sure, this game has value to you, to some degree. EA has done the usual job of making multiple modes chock full of microtransactions, so if you have money to spend you can make an even better MUT team. That's if you can even figure out how to navigate through the menu, which a cluster bomb full of information and updates encouraging you to spend money.

    Also, Madden is pushing online play heavily, and no longer can you really experience a great football simulation as a single player when buying this game.

    So now, a quick breakdown of the PRO/CON list:

    Pro:
    - Dynamic roster updates, Madden also has made more of an effort to patch or nerf out plays that don't work well, or work too well, this year. Better running mechanics, overall fluid moving game-play.

    Cons:
    - Franchise mode. This mode is terrible and hasn't been updated in years. When relocating a team, they still have the same uniforms and city options they've had for the past three games. Trading is still horrible and Free Agency makes no sense, because no marque free agents ever hit until the third or fourth year. It's been this way for IDK, the last 10 or so years of Madden.
    - Play archetype system: It's a great idea until you realize that only your special teams players actually upgrade quickly, and that player performance in no way translates to upgrades or downgrades. (Example: I had a player rush for 1,700 yards in his second year, and he actually regressed by 5 overall points)
    - Defense is still impossible to play well at times, and the AI will kill you on the quick slant over and over. It's been a reoccuring issue for years now. You literally have to look up a cheat sheet online on how to play defense and what plays to call.
    - The games default settings are trash and every year you have to look at someone online for how to adjust sliders for actual quality gameplay.
    - Lastly, there is just no immersion in Madden. The only mode they put time into is a mode to create a fantasy team of players, and the game doesn't focus at all on features that would make it a realistic football simulator. HARD PASS.    … Expand

Wish 2K could get the license back so we could have some competition. Just wait for it to release on EA access after the super bowl if you want to try this version. That's what I do nowadays cuz $60 is way too much for this sad attempt at NFL football.

    Alot of people who rate Madden bad either dont play it or haven't played it in years. True is not a perfect game, it does have some issues, but its a fun game. I understand some people frustrations but this game isn't that bad to where it rates a 0 from people.

    And stop saying FIFA is better because it has competition. PES is basically RBI Baseball compared to its upper hand. They can’t compete. While I do love how some of the mechanics seemed refreshed the glitches were enough to make me uninstall this game from my system. The first time I noticed this happen I won the super bowl completed the entire offseason, preseason and the first game of the regular season where I had a huge game. I come back to madden the next day to find my career is all the way back to the divisional round of the playoffs from last season. This was extremely frustrating. It’s done that multiple times. So for the first time I put madden down for a month and a half. I decide to play it last night and today. At this point in the season I’m 7-0 I see the system says auto saving I allow it to run the process to make sure it’s not user error. I close the application the correct way. Later I come back and here I am week 3 of my season at 3-0 after yet having another big game. It was so frustrating to see that, on top of the superstar abilities not working how they should! I’ve turned the accelerated clock off in the settings just for it to still be on during gameplay. I go to check after the game and as I thought I did turn it off but that did not matter because we were given an incomplete product. I truly believed madden made a strive for the better which is why I even purchased the game this year just to find out I was wrong...same menus, same commentary, same everything. You are better off not buying this game and playing other versions as this is the worst madden I have played. I don’t know how anyone can play this competitively this game is garbage.… Expand

    This game is painfully average. I wanted more from Face of the Franchise and the gameplay in general, but it's better than Madden 19, which was atrocious. I'd take 2K5 with updated rosters over this game, so only get this game when it's on sale. It's not worth sixty bucks.

    The fact that this game got a 77 from critic reviews is a joke! It shows that EA pays for reviews. This game is supposed to be at its core a football simulator and fails miserably. Game is so bad and I will not be purchasing a madden game as long as EA is the developer

    I have played madden for years, I just deleted this game. Uncontrollable gameplay based on animations, every game is up in the air, all the time. The game premeditates kick blocks and punts, forces animations on bad plays, and adding back the pro bowl isn’t an improvement if you can’t play the pro bowl because all the players are wearing the same team helmet.     This game has tons of glitches just like last years hand and the one before it so on and so on. It’s animation heavy and even has a madden 19 banner hanging in the practice stadium. The game always has advantages set to one side of the players. I had three occasions where the game cheated In the first half. And led to the other player having a 17-7 lead. Next was another pass by opponent that was thrown directly to my guy who drops it. This was the same drive, then the final straw was. It was 4&1, he ran up the middle which I put a all blitz and guess run up the middle. Guess what the middle was wide open. And not only did he get the first down, he got the touchdown. This game is trash and deserves to be thrown in the trash. So glad I didn’t buy and got it for free. Not worth 60$ maybe 10$ game is trash. 0/10.… Expand

The micros are the only good thing about the game so don't buy it. Multiple times I’ve scored a touchdown only to have the game glitch and place me on the 1 or 2 yard line despite the game acknowledging its a touchdown with its scoreboard graphics and commentary. That’s inexcusable and was not a problem on prior games. Then there’s the difficulty problem. Every single mode outside of all madden is way too easy. When playing on all madden however, defense is incredibly difficult. QBs will complete almost every single pass on you with pin point accuracy and wide open receivers all day long. Coverage is pathetic and completely non-existent. On offense, several dropped wide open passes with the same animations over and over again. Pathetic run and pass blocking (unless you edit the sliders). Then you add the fact the commentary is almost identical to the year before and some of the phrases have been in the game since madden 17. It’s laughable how re-hashed this game is. It’s time for EA to put some real effort into this game or give up the license for good because every year the quality is going drastically down. This years madden is the worst version I have ever played in 20 years of playing the game. Almost every single game will leave you wanting to snap the controller in frustration unless you like playing on the easy settings and dominating every game.… Expand

    Bad physics all the way around clear money grab with the use of the NFL license. The NFL should take action and let another devolvelper take over. A NFL football game in 2019 should have better a experience. There’s so much potential in this day and age and EA has failed tremendously.

    this game is no longer football... it is "abuse glitchy animation and route combos to make the AI controller players to missplay on downs... load up a nano blitz to make the RT not be able to even choose 1 player to block but yet let 2-3 players run free towards the QB. and x-factor has even made    TL:DR ive played madden since the first one (1990 madden) and this is the last i will buy

Inaccurate passes out of nowhere that go straight to a defender, quarterback not letting go of the ball when you throw it so that he gets sacked, touchdowns counting when the player clearly didn’t get into the end zone, touchdowns that should’ve counted not counting, and microtransaction bs.Made an account just to rate this game.     Madden NFL 20 is still one of the best videogames if you want to simulate any sport but it's very clear that it needs more: more graphics, more gameplay changes, more news in its modes... X-Factor is a good new, but still insufficient to sense that gameplay is different that last year's edition.

    Madden NFL 20 takes a step in the right direction and I really enjoyed the X-Factor additions to the series. While I still think some form of competition would force EA to make more drastic changes, I’m not optimistic with any developers taking a spin with the football genre (maybe the XFL?). If you haven’t caught the pigskin for a few seasons, Madden NFL 20 is the right route to run for this year. With the new consoles coming (most likely) next holiday, I’m looking forward to seeing what EA builds upon from Madden NFL 20 and brings over to next gen. For now I’ll enjoy taking the Broncos to the Super Bowl, while beating up the cover pretty boy, Mahomes (not bitter at all).
