Therefore, I decided to play the second one too, and my god, this has been one of my favorite gaming experiences ever, along with both The Last of Us games and Marvel's Spider-Man. It took every aspect I liked or loved from the first, improved upon them, and added more stuff that I loved. Gameplay is tense, fun and at points, very challenging. My only problem with the gameplay, and the game as a whole, is that many mechanics were hard to understand and it would at times be hard to grab ledges. Other than that, I was treated to gorgeous visuals, beautifully horrific designs, an amazing soundtrack and an overall masterpiece and a game I would highly recommend! I could go on and on, but I not here to waste your time. A pretty close to perfect game that I would highly recommend! Expand

    BEFORE STARTING:
Little Nightmares 2 was announced on February 10, 2021; developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco. The game was completed 100% on Xbox Series X, with additional graphical improvements compared to the old-gen version.

    TUNING THE TV:
Little Nightmares 2 begins with a short scene depicting a long corridor with a closed door. The door bears the eye symbol from the first chapter, clearly hinting at the interconnection between the two games, establishing it from the start. In the following few seconds, the player finds themselves controlling a new little character, completely unknown, with a paper bag covering their face. This character doesn't seem to possess any special abilities and moves similarly to Six, the protagonist of the first Little Nightmares. The early stages of the game take place in a large, dark, and evidently inhabited forest. These areas serve as a way for the player to learn the various game mechanics in order to utilize them as soon as possible.

    ESCAPING FROM YOUR SHADOW:
Little Nightmares 2 combines the simplicity of controls for the main character, including running, grabbing, stealthy walking, and calling, with the complexity and intricacy of puzzles present in different game environments. These puzzles continuously vary throughout the chapters and require strategy and reflexes from players, as well as a good level of stealth to avoid being discovered by enemies. The game is packed with chasing sequences, complex puzzles, enemies with different attack styles, and many platforming sections. The 5 chapters of the game are distinctly divided into completely different areas, each with at least one unique mechanic. Additionally, there are various collectibles ranging from huggable glitch children to wearable hats. It's worth noting the ability to choose which chapters to play. Fortunately, the presence of an allied artificial intelligence doesn't cause problems during stealth sections and manages to provide a sense of tranquility in the darkest levels.

    YELLOW FEAR:
The art design of this game is stunning, with attention to detail in every aspect, in every moment of the game and in every situation. Each enemy has numerous unique animations based on player interaction. The variety of 3D models in this game is astonishing and, even though they are often repeated, they never give a sense of déjà vu. Furthermore, the attention to detail in the various rooms, which effectively tells a silent story to the player, is always delightful. Finally, the script is the game's highlight and is considered one of the best ever seen in the gaming landscape.

    STATIC SYMPHONY:
The sound department of Little Nightmares 2 has significantly improved compared to the first title, with a much larger and memorable list of original music. The sound design is well executed in most situations, allowing the player to avoid hidden dangers or to tremble in their seat, hoping not to be caught.
    BUT WHY 9?

    PROS:
Personally, Little Nightmares 2 is one of the most beautiful and touching horror adventures in the gaming world, with impeccable aesthetics and attention to detail that rival any AAA game. The addition of an ally definitely reduces the anxiety of solitude but adds an infinite number of fantastic interactions, along with the typical hand-in-hand running reminiscent of ICO for PlayStation 2.

    CONS:
Beside some glitches, which are nearly unavoidable given the vast array of different mechanics, the game is almost perfect. The one detail that prevents it from reaching a 10 lies in the ending, which gives the impression of being rushed, possibly due to the impending release date. The final section of the game explains very little about the past and future world of the game and connects the two console titles in a somewhat hidden manner. Nevertheless, both games are still unforgettable gems.

    RATINGS:
    Gameplay: 10
    Music: 9,5
    Story: 8
    Horror: 9,5

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have just finished the second game and oh my . The first game was incredible but this takes it up a notch . All the villains provoke fear into the player and the characters of Mono And Six are great. The ending where Six betrays you (mono) and lets go of your hand shocked me . And the thing about mono turning into the villain and it all being a time loop is just incredible . What a game I really hope a third instalment in the series is released at somepoint before 2025 . It's a very succesful successor to the first game. One thing I like about these games is that they manage to raise the level of everything (atmosphere, music, gameplay, story) as you progress through the game. And in the end you are left speechless, trying to tie everything together to make sense of what happened.

So, I'm giving it an eight only because of the CLUNKY CONTROLS and that the 2,5D MOST of the time didn't do the trick for me. Don't know why, but at times, it looked like I'm heading towards a door (mostly when being chased), and then I was ending up 1 meter away from it.
The same goes with the jumps: you are 100% sure it's correct, you jump and you fall into eternity.

It's an easy game, but these things added to the "nightmare" factor :-)

Oh, and the Trophies are just..random things to do. Most of them you have to read online to figure out.

Other than that...9 hrs where for the better 8 of them I had goosebumps from fright every 5 seconds.
Don't know how they do it with both 1 + 2 games, really.

    It's like a "kid's" game but it's a real nightmare. It's morbid, it's grotesque, it's AWESOME.

It's not Monkey Island guessing done with some fun and style, it's just pushing a dumpster close to a hole and then try to jump over it 20 times before you give up and go to the next game.

--The little nightmares are there yes, but they are mainly the result of LOUSY controls. Excrutiating. turned off the game half way through, happens extremely rarely.

Especially the flashlight in the awful mannequin sequence where the game basically turns into a third person shooter for some reason.

The game introduces an idea and then milks it absolutely dry to the point where you’re just tired of it.

Puzzles are very obtuse and don’t always make sense. The developers do a horrible job at teaching new mechanics. They’ll randomly throw something new at you in the middle of a tense scene and expect you to accept the L and try again. At one point I stopped caring and had to check a youtube walkthrough on what to do because I was so done with the game I didn’t even want to think for more than 5 seconds.

The biggest thing the first game had going for it was the unique aesthetic but now with a sequel it’s lost its charm and needs more than ✨creepy art✨ to be enjoyable.

Also, I don't think the story of Thin Man growing up needed there, the game should have ended right after the last bridge, without explaining what happened after the fall. They should have kept the story simple, without these unnecessary complications.
But well,.. Still an amazing game! :D

While it’s very rare for the platformers to deliver at least somewhat sufficient plot, Little Nightmares II - along with the original game - is definitely not the case. The tale is easily stunning, managing to keep balance between thrill, real-life references and allegories, and the core of the story, which itself is stuffed with such metaphors and subtext. Throughout the game, its magnificent narrative is supported by its simply amazing soundtrack, which likely opens the window to the new level of sound design management in the game industry. Speaking of the gameplay, I’d like to praise the developers for not experimenting much with what has already been working properly. The gameplay hasn’t changed much since original Little Nightmares, and that’s not bad. It is still a funny, interesting, and exciting experience. Furthermore, some positive changes are quickly noticeable. Tarsier Studios have done good work in improving the game’s survival horror elements. Yes, it’s still not a title true horror fans would take into account, and not the one timid players should avoid, but saying Little Nightmares II is as unscary as the first one was would definitely not make sense. The atmosphere in general has become much eerier, and the specific fragments offer some experience relatively close to what we call survival horror. However, Little Nightmares II has unfortunately failed to avoid carrying over all the mistakes the original game has made. Tarsier really are talented, but it’s a bit disappointing that they continue to go wrong in something simple, while succeeding in something many of others are insufficient in. The game world still fails to be immersive enough to motivate the player to explore it completely, despite some right steps were definitely made by the team (the collectibles now unlock an extended ending), and the locations are still empty, despite their impressive visual appearance. However, regardless of all possible disadvantages, the game definitely moves its franchise in the right direction. An absolute piece of art, Little Nightmares II is a perfect continuation of the series, and a must-play for all the lovers of video games. Expand

Despite some rather annoying trial-&-error sections and puzzles which feel a bit too easy, Little Nightmares 2 managed to excite us from start to finish. Visuals are great, sound design is awesome, gameplay offers a fair amount of variety and the environmental story-telling again works excellent. Sadly this scary adventure is already over after roughly seven hours.
