Nov 12, 2020Melody of Memory is a loving homage to the legacy of Kingdom Hearts, aiming to honour almost two decades of absurd excellence whilst also forging a new path forward. If any franchise is going to make a rhythm game an integral part of its overall plot, it's Kingdom Hearts, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
-
Nov 12, 2020Overall, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a phenomenal experience. It has truly unique gameplay wrapped in a Triple A Kingdom Hearts presentation. The music featured is among the most memorable scores in video game history, and the amount of content will keep players getting much more than their money’s worth. If you’re at all curious about Melody of Memories, rest assured that it’s a must buy.
-
Nov 12, 2020Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory is a nostalgic trip down memory lane while also offering a well-crafted rhythm game that is absolutely addicting.
-
Nov 12, 2020Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory it's the new game in the Kingdom Hearts series, making a stop in it's classical APRG style, to focus in musical rhythm games. It works, it's a solid game, entirely because the OST it's a masterpiece built since the first Kingdom Hearts came to us in Playstation 2.
-
Nov 19, 2020Melody of Memory is worth playing for both newcomers and veterans alike. While the game might not be an expected entry into the Kingdom Hearts franchise, it’s a competent rhythm title with a varied selection of music. The accessibility options mean it’s great for players of all abilities. Those who are then intending to play the RPG games for the first time may want to consider playing those beforehand unless you want the entire storyline spoiled. For fans, the extra content gives a fascinating idea of where the franchise is going next as long as you’re prepared to put in the time to get there.
-
Nov 13, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is an excellently packaged rhythm game overflowing with options and good music. If the genre suits you and the soundtrack of Kingdom Hearts holds a place of honour among your memories, you can't go wrong.
-
Nov 12, 2020A very good rhythm game, for who love the soundtrack of the KH saga.
-
Nov 12, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Memory of Melody is an incredibly charming game that finally brings the stellar array of music from the series into the spotlight. Its various options and modes allow any Kingdom Hearts fan to enjoy, but it doesn’t completely make up for some of the missing tracks. Still, the memories that these songs hold are represented brilliantly by a competent and addictive rhythm system that you’d be hard-pressed not to love.
-
Jan 23, 2021A well crafted and quite charming anthology of music with a lot of content from Kingdom Hearts titles that, however, is missing some important songs.
-
Dec 4, 2020Melody of Memory is a true love letter to the Kingdom Hearts series. Fans will adore the numerous callbacks to older titles in the franchise; newcomers won’t fully get what’s so special about it. This is worth taking into consideration.
-
Dec 3, 2020Overall, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is an astounding take on the rhythm game genre, bringing the expertly crafted music of the Kingdom Hearts series to the forefront. Longtime fans of the series will find themselves drenched in nostalgia as they play through levels like Roxas' theme song or Simple and Clean. Meanwhile, newcomers will be able to discover the story and characters through the lens of great music and gameplay.
-
Nov 22, 2020With an incredible amount of superb music to play and unlock, Melody of Memory serves as a fun, albeit not very integral, part of the ever-expanding Kingdom Hearts universe.
-
Nov 19, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is exactly what it needs to be: A quality rhythm game experience that lets fans of the series look back on it fondly. Its flaws are minor, and its strengths lay the groundwork for a promising future of bigger and better spin-off titles in the genre. It’s a great first step into the genre and will keep fans of Kingdom Hearts and rhythm games alike engrossed in its different modes for hours on end.
-
Nov 17, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory succeeds in creating a good rhythm game based on the Kingdom Hearts melodies and music, though certainly there is room for improvements.
-
Nov 16, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory has been long time coming. Even with its faults, Square Enix and indieszero deliver a rhythmic fantasia that captures the series' music at its very best.
-
Nov 16, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory doesn't always hit the right note. But as somebody who's followed the series for many years, there couldn't be a better tribute to its unforgettable music. It's pure Disney magic.
-
Nov 16, 2020With no less than 150 unlockable tracks, Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory lives up to its name: it's a sincere tribute to both the story and the music of the whole series. The gameplay requires great skill and regular involvement from the player, who can also practice with others online or on the same couch, with the coop mode.
-
Nov 16, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is an unexpected and pleasant surprise. A journey through its entire history with a very fun approach, and that can also be enjoyed in company.
-
Nov 14, 2020Melody of Memory is a fun and compelling rhythm game for Kingdom Hearts' veterans, but don't expect so much from the storytelling in this one.
-
Nov 13, 2020Melody of Memory is a nostalgic, rhythmic celebration of Kingdom Hearts that fans of the series and the genre will adore. Drawing upon a rich soundtrack that ranges from original songs to Disney hits, there’s a lot to love in this new spin-off, but don’t expect any major story developments.
-
Nov 12, 2020There’s a sense that Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a game that wants to repay longtime fans for their commitment. The music and cutscenes draw from a deep well of nostalgia without relying on it. That said, fans looking for a game that advances the story might be disappointed. Within the context of the franchise, Melody of Memory isn’t the next big moment for Sora, Kairi, or any other of the game’s characters. Instead, it’s a celebration of the moments that have already happened for those characters with a very strong focus on Sora.
-
Nov 12, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a perfectly competent Kingdom Hearts rhythm game and not a lot else. Despite being canon to the series, its bare-bones plot is barely relevant, and the thin story is mostly a reason for more music. Thankfully, the core rhythm gameplay is fun if not particularly new or exciting. If you like Kingdom Hearts music and rhythm games, Melody of Memory will scratch the itch, but don't expect much more.
-
Nov 12, 2020Although Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory might not be the story-focused experience many expect from the series, it arguably does something much more special. Not only does it set up the next chapter nicely, but it celebrates everything that came before it with some fantastic rhythm gameplay and abundant content that makes it feel like a loving send-off to the past 18 years of the franchise.
-
Nov 12, 2020I didn’t realize how much Kingdom Hearts’ soundtrack has impacted me until I played Melody of Memory. As a fan of the series, I’ve always praised the score, but something about actually going back through various tracks and tapping to the beats on familiar backdrops showcased just how powerful these songs have been. Melody of Memory delivers great music and tons of unlockables to keep you listening.
-
Nov 12, 2020While definitely not for everyone, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is truly a trip down memory lane full of the best songs that the series has to offer. With more than 140 tracks and a relatively minuscule new story involving Kairi thrown into the mix, the game is a must play for long time fans of the series, especially if you love rhythm games.
-
Nov 25, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory takes advantage of the emotional mastery of Tetsuya Nomura's work and offers us an uncomplicated rhythm game. An entertaining option that was able to take advantage of the world and the charisma of an established franchise.
-
Nov 13, 2020Melody of Memory is a nice tribute to the series, particularly for players who love its music.Tribute aside, it’s a fun rhythm-based game without much depth.
-
Nov 27, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is exactly what you would like a musical game in the Square Enix saga to be. A simple, direct, accessible and very funny title. It's so simple, the repeatability could take its toll soon, but if you commune with its extraordinary soundtrack, you won't mind too much. Still, it does not innovate anything within the genre and not all melodies offer the same rhythm with each beat.
-
Nov 25, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is fun romp through the series many memorable moments, with excellent music and simple but diverse gameplay to keep this title as replayable as possible. While the story lacks in some places, it continues to offer interesting tidbits for the series ever expanding lore, and creating an awesome idea of where the series story is heading in the future.
-
Nov 18, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a watered-down trip down memory lane, fueled heavily by nostalgia and a love for the franchise’s soundtrack, which finally gets the attention and spotlight it deserves.
-
Nov 12, 2020While it is unclear who Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory is truly made for, the hardcore player or the newcomer, the game is undeniably charming. Playing through some of my favourite songs of any video game franchise won't get old any time soon. Meanwhile trying to three-star each level and collect everything to fill up the museum gives players even more reason to replay each song. While Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory missteps in its delivery, the game's presentation and quality shine enough to overlook some of its shortcomings. I cant wait to see what's next.
-
Nov 12, 2020While Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is far from perfect, it is nonetheless a great asset to the series.
-
Nov 12, 2020In addition to clearing up a few gray areas, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory provides a good overall summary of the entire series in an entertaining way with their very effective rhythm game. The Theatrhythm gameplay mechanics have been cleverly adapted to the 3D transition, and the excellent soundtrack will surely seduce music fans. However, we regret a taste of déjà vu regarding the overuse of the series' scenery and the readability sometimes confusing. Finally, the new story, far too light, does not justify such a high price.
-
Nov 12, 2020To the delight of those who do not love rhythm games, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory does not pretend to be a mandatory stop, but a delightful detour that, between one note and another, will help fans of the Tetsuya Nomura series to reconstruct eighteen years of often confused and fragmented memories.
-
Jan 6, 2021Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a great game for the fans of the series, plunging the player deep into nostalgia to refresh the events and immerse them in the beloved universe. However, it might not be the best game to begin your journey in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Despite being a strong rhythm action game, the game’s biggest point is reliving memories that already have an emotional impact with its audience.

Playstation Official Magazine UKDec 14, 2020This isn’t a game for hunting high scores or even for getting your hands on new lore (you get about 20 minutes of new, low-stakes cutscenes), but it is a good fit for lovers of Kingdom Hearts music or young players who are usually put off other rhythm games by the high difficulty. [Issue#183, p.81]
-
Nov 27, 2020Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory could have easily been a simple rhythm game with nothing but a huge set of Kingdom Hearts songs going for it. The fact that it goes out of its way to emulate the visuals of the series and recaps major story moments elevates it to something more. It's a shame that the new story elements of the game are held off until the very end, and that Kairi isn't even a playable character despite being on the cover of the dang game. Those issues alongside a surprising amount of missing Kingdom Hearts 3 music and a tacked-on item system add some awkward wrinkles to an otherwise magical, musical, melodic nostalgia trip for Kingdom Hearts die-hards.
-
Nov 26, 2020Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory is a great collection for the most hardcore of fans. While the story doesn't progress the plot that much, the gameplay is fun and entertaining for the most part and shows off just how great the Kingdom Heart music really is.
-
Nov 17, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a nostalgia-heavy reflection of a triumphant but persistently jumbled-up franchise about spell-slinging ducks and Final Fantasy characters living in Disney castles, but it lovingly memorializes its legacy and honors the fans who have grown to love it. While it doesn’t do anything remarkable or exciting with its rhythm gameplay, and it may not be the most alluring for those who don’t have the same understanding and love of Kingdom Hearts, it’s certainly a delightful experience that’s well worth the time spent.
-
Nov 17, 2020It isn’t the best game in the rhythm genre (that’s Gitaroo Man), but Melody of Memories is going to entertain a lot of people, make a ton of money, and get fans playing through the whole series again.
-
Nov 17, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a surprising rhythm game that leads the player on a journey through memories.
-
Nov 17, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory takes a stripped back look at the story of the series whilst putting the fantastic music at its core, although the timing issues can effect the enjoyment of revisiting the past.
-
Nov 13, 2020In terms of gameplay mechanics, there are undoubtedly better rhythm games out there than Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. Being able to use any of three buttons just feels a bit slapdash. And as fantastic as the Kingdom Hearts’ soundtrack is, much of it doesn’t feel particularly suited to rhythm play. As such, you should probably think twice before jumping in if you’re simply after a new rhythm game. But if you’re a fan of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, its issues are easily overlooked, making it much more of an interesting prospect.
-
Nov 12, 2020Kingdom Hearts is a good rhythm game that meanders way too often with its presentation.
-
Nov 12, 2020Melody of Memory succeeds as a fun, well-made rhythm game that successfully adapts Kingdom Hearts’ combat into the genre. The gameplay is fast, fluid and frantic, giving players a new way to experience the franchise’s excellent music. Though there isn’t much in the form of new worlds or music, it’s a one-stop-shop to listen to Yoko’s extraordinary music.
-
Nov 16, 2020If you are a die-hard Kingdom Hearts fan that loves the music and needs to play every game, then yeah, this game is for you. However, it just feels sloppy for a full-priced game. There are better rhythm games out there, and better Kingdom Hearts games out there, so unless you really need a combination of the two, you can safely pass this one up.
-
Nov 13, 2020Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a decent rhythm game with a huge compilation of tracks to play, however the repetitive stages, the lackluster content and the poor RPG features are disappointing.
-
Nov 23, 2020Kingdom Hearts’ rhythm-game spin-off brings you a huge soundtrack library of beautifully arranged music embedded in merely average mechanics.
-
Nov 12, 2020Melody of Memory is indeed a Kingdom Hearts title. It's kind of like Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded in that dedicated fans might not want to overlook this one too much. Really, this is a game made for those fans anyway as it offers a fun way to re-experience the music of the series with some fun Disney extras. With bite-size stages that are easy to take in, it might help alleviate the pains of waiting for the next title just a little.
-
Dec 2, 2020Kingdom Hearts fans will want to see the new story content and there’s likely enough content here to make them feel they got their money’s worth. Everyone else will be able to find a rhythm game more worthy of their time.
-
Nov 24, 2020Due to an unclear staff and unreliable timing, Melody of Memory does not work well as a rhythm game. That's a shame, because this gigantic pile of memorable music deserved better.
-
Nov 13, 2020Melody of Memory is less than the sum of its parts, a judgment one can fairly cast over the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise.
-
Jan 20, 2021I knew Melody of Memory was a rhythm spin-off before I started it, so I kept my expectations fairly low, but it didn’t even clear that bar. The music isn’t awful and the visuals are beautiful, but it gives players almost nothing substantial in the main story. In light of this, I can only recommend it to those who really love rhythm games or the music from Kingdom Hearts.
