I'm a rhythm gamer first, and only mildly enjoy the KH series. World Tour is mediocre at best and contains a recap of the series events leading up to some new scenes exclusive to MoM. It is there mostly to unlock songs for Track Selection, which is MoM's free play mode, but the World Tour, much the same as any rhythm game's story or missions, is not where you'll be spending the bulk of your time unless you choose to. Track Selection is the heart of the game, much like any rhythm game's free play. The VS/COM battles, where you can play against other players or AI opponents is really enjoyable due to the trick system. A gauge fills up as you hit notes, and the better your note judgement is the more it fills. Once full you will throw a random trick at your opponent that lasts a limited amount of time. It's random, so you don't choose the tricks, but it keeps things interesting. There's also tons of unlockables, from songs, new teams (only 4 teams total, which each level up separately), to profile cards used in vs, to collection cards that permanently boost various things like EXP earned, item drop rate, defense increases, etc. You can also synthesize some of these through moogle synthesis, as well as usable items. There are also lots of in-game feats, some of which unlock trophies. So even beyond trophies there's a lot more achievements. I highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys rhythm games. If you're not a rhythm gamer, but only a KH fan, I'm not sure I could recommend it since you can probably look up the exclusive ending scenes on Youtube and listen to the music elsewhere, but that doesn't mean you won't like this. You might. Expand

Super fun rhythm game, it's definitely aimed at fans of the series. Music is fantastic, controls are tight, multiplayer is fun and the new story at the end was hype, looking forward to the future of the series.

Mediocre game full of recicled assets. Confused gameplay only enjoyable in proud mode. 60€ for a game that has no story at all in it. Only in the end, you have a 25 minutes cutscene that tells you pretty much nothing more than a good trailer.
Guys this game is like paying 60€ for a single episode of Lost, and not a good one like "The Constant", no. A cheep one. A "meanwhile" one.

Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory is a fantastic love song to the most beloved game franchise to my heart. The team behind Theatrhyhm (indieszero) definitely excels at making fast pasted rhythm action that feels as though you're playing a Kingdom Hearts game, but with music instead. Mostly I'm satisfied with the tracks selected in the game, but I do have to wonder if it was in development at the same time as KH3 due to a heavy lack of tracks from that game (and even the ones they have are all interactive cinematics, not battle levels). This is a little saddening as some games like KH2 have an abundance of tracks, but then KH3 has so little. There are notably a lot of missing tracks from older worlds including Deep Jungle (Tarzan), Port Royal (Pirates), and Symphony of Sorcery (Fantasia) which is the most tragic loss. This wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact some worlds like Hallow Bastion are represented multiple times. Really though, this is a minor gripe as there are 150 beautiful and memorable tracks in this game (including some Disney songs they threw in just for fun), a co-op and online versus mode, and so much that provides hours of enjoyment.

To the casual players out there make no mistake, this is not a silly spinoff. This is a canon, post-KH3 Re:Mind spoiler filled delight of a game. I honestly can't recommend it to a casual player even if you told yourself you were going to skip all the cutscenes. Shoot, some tracks have spoilers in the background of the notes! But if you are a dedicated player, this is definitely the next step after Re:Mind that finally answers a lot of questions I had after 3, and gets me pumped for whatever comes next (which may be 4). Also it's wonderful to see my girl Kairi get the spotlight for a change!

Admittedly I'm biased because I love both KH and rhythm games, however this game has many undeniable flaws, first of all, on the Battle Stages, the most common type of stage, it can be very disorienting to play when the enemies are moving about so much, the path curves and bends, making certain obstacles hard to see, and your characters move around a lot too, these can make it incredibly hard to actually hit notes and can make playing certain stages on Hard an absolute nightmare. Another kind of Stage, a boss fight, can be just as bad if not worse, in these fights an in game recreation of a boss fight from a previous game will play out while you hit notes in the foreground, this is made very difficult by the fact the notes come from the left side of the screen and the bar to hit them is at the right leaning centre, meaning you have very little time to read and press the buttons accordingly. Another issue I've found in boss fights is how the battle can feel very random compared to your rating with the notes, for example. during one stage, I hit all the notes most with an Excellent rating, the second highest rating in the game, yet I got hit a number of times and got a "good" rating, whereas the next time, I missed quite a few notes yet didn't get hit at all and received an "excellent" rating, so it seems totally arbitrary whether you do good or bad. The final kind of stage consists of you hitting notes over an FMV, these are the most traditional kind of songs and much more closely resemble something like Guitar Hero, I have found minimal issue with this stage and think it's the best, apart from getting stars, they're the only stages I play.

The story itself can be beat in less than 10 hours and about 30 minutes of that is dedicated to story development, the other 9 and a half hours is Kairi recapping the series up to this point, ReMind included. As a Kingdom Hearts fan, this is incredibly disappointing, I know the series, I don't need to be retold the series, especially after the ps4 releases, this is unnecessary, it's really one of the only games in KH worth calling a "side game" much like Coded this can be skipped and the cutscene (singular) can be viewed on youtube with nothing of value lost.

I can only really recommend KHMoM at a discounted price, IF you love KH Music as much as I do, I think this game could really benefit from some DLC, because as it stands, there are very few Disney songs and no Final Fantasy songs, there's also some glaring omissions like Face My Fears and ANY Pirates of The Caribbean song. While disappointing, I still enjoy this game and have 18 hours on it, and I intend to play more, but I do wish I could have at least £20 back

To a novice in the realm of rhythm games, it was very easy to get into the game-play loop, and simply playing the game felt rewarding due to the beautiful soundtrack and imagery that accompanied every level. As a veteran Kingdom Hearts player, I was also hit with frequent feelings of nostalgia, reminding me of my first experience with this amazing franchise.

This game even features a multiplayer mode, which is rather unpolished compared to typical co-op settings, but provides additional enjoyment after completion of the game. And as with every Kingdom Hearts entry, simply playing the game rewards you with a progression of the narrative, giving us insight of what to expect for the much awaited Kingdom Hearts 4.

On the plus side it definitely isn't lacking in songs, though the selection is of varying levels of suitability for a rhythm game as is inevitable when you're bringing back the majority of songs from a non rhythm series.
Story wise it's a summary of the entire series so far, with a bit of new story by the end of it. But unless you're a big enough fan to play through a mediocre rhythm game while still fresh enough that you want another summary I can't really recommend it. Watch the story part on YouTube or wait for it to be summarised or retold in the next mainline game.

I knew Melody of Memory was a rhythm spin-off before I started it, so I kept my expectations fairly low, but it didn’t even clear that bar. The music isn’t awful and the visuals are beautiful, but it gives players almost nothing substantial in the main story. In light of this, I can only recommend it to those who really love rhythm games or the music from Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is a great game for the fans of the series, plunging the player deep into nostalgia to refresh the events and immerse them in the beloved universe. However, it might not be the best game to begin your journey in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Despite being a strong rhythm action game, the game’s biggest point is reliving memories that already have an emotional impact with its audience.
