KCD makes a lot of its modest possibilities: The independent combat system is great fun (the only criticism here would be the combos, which were almost impossible to implement at least for me), the open, beautiful game world is atmospheric and immersive due to its "realistic" design (completely without volcanoes and other crap, there is still enough to discover), the character system with its perks is super coherent (learning by doing), the quest are well written with hardly any repetitions and several ways to solve and and and and ... What for me as for many others were also very well received: in KCD you are not the designated hero with overwhelming abilities, but you literally have to fight your way out of the gutter and, thanks to the skill system, naturally develop your skills according to your own playing style. If you expect a lot of action, you will be disappointed, KCD is more for "slow gamers" and develops its full fascination over time.
The start might be a little hard and even contains some light "survival" elements which makes it even more rewarding fighing (or sneaking) you way through it.

Sure, the technology doesn't blow anyones mind on a normal PS4, which has bothered me, especially with the somewhat stiff NPC movements and the frequent pop-ups of textures, buildings etc. Luckily, many other early issues such as the annoying lock picking with the controller have already been patched.

With the story you could go a step further here and there, but the variety of the quest design, the many side quest and greats dlcs, the game world etc. are absolutely covering all the technical issues . The anticipation for part 2 could hardly be bigger. This is a real immersive rpg you can spend many hours with. Its not a perfect game but it makes many things different in a positive way than other so called rpgs like Witcher 3 (dont get me wrong, it loved this games as well) which all in all makes KCD a wonderful experience.

One of must play RPG games.
Positives: One of best/most interesting fight system ever (ripostes are best thing i have ever experienced in any swordfight) - Witcher fight is very lame in comparation. Quests are interesting, funny and it's possible to solve these in more ways. Nature is beautiful and symphonic and medieval soundtrack is great. Towns are created according real historic plans

Yea, its harder, but not so much. Average player can do it (frustrated are noobs :)). Bow is very hard to handle, but its possible to learn it - but i recommend it for hunting. Story is good and conversations are great. I havent found saving system bad, its good that you cant load and load again to cheat.

Negatives: I have bought game after a year since release so I have experienced only 2 minor bugs, which had no influence on game. In middle game, i was very rich and there weren't better goods to buy. Monastery was frustrating but in was on purpose to meet alcoholic priests in basement.

So i would give 8-9/10 but many people rated this game bad because bugs werent fixed at that time, so i rate it 10/10.

    Totally unplayable utter crap
I can't even figure what's the worst part of it:
Whether it's frustrating lockpicking system or the mess they call "archery" here? Or maybe it's the aged graphics or the dumb and soulless character or the complete lack of decision-making. Frankly, I don't know, but all of this combined make me regret every single cent spent on this sh*ty game Wouldn't play it

This game is incredibly BROKEN, STILL. It even feels worse! Also after all this time, they couldn't be bothered to at least make sure the game performed okay on console - they haven't done jack sh** to optimize it better! The DLC supplied as well was garbage, fluff to keep the devs from working on the real issues - the game is just flat out broken at parts, with bugs that stop you from completing quests entirely. It's like the entire team forgot how to bug test after release. I got up to the big battle of the Cuman/bandit hideout and just ended up destroying my copy of the game. Just shredding it to pieces. The amount of time put in just to see enemies respawn and kill your entire team and you, probably over 20 times, just drove me insane. Literally unplayable at this point now. Stick to the PC version if you can, and avoid the console ports at all costs. Expand

The story is full of cliché with endless and often pointless talking during cutscenes, graphics is fine but with glitches and the loading times are very long. On top of that there are tons of bugs - some of them not fixed even two years after the release as this game is such a mess that it is not fixable.
So if you are masochist as some fans of this game, play it. Otherwise avoid, there are many much better games. BTW: I tried the game out of curiosity also on friend’s PC and it was similarly bad experience.

On PS4, KC:D doesn’t run very smoothly at 30fps and there is bugs and crashes. Despite all this, there is a fun, very challenging at times, game. Overall, I was very impressed considering this is an Indie game, that had a small budget. Looking forward to the next KC game. Hopefully it is in the making.

If a game forces you to hate your character or makes you wonder why the hell your character is acting like he does then it's not an RPG. It's an adventure game with a leveling system and items. For example: You are forced to act like a bootlicker trying to bring the sword back to the noble. I don't give a rat's bottom about the noble's sword. You are then forced to join the garrison of this noble to be trained (I don't want to join the garrison). You are taunted by another noble for being useless during training and you are forced to call that noble "spoon-fed" (what the hell game, you are choosing what I say now?) and then you are forced to enter a hard to win competition with him which due to the lack of a save system means that if you want at least to feel a bit good about yourself getting into such a gigantic mess by winning the competition, you'll have to load from the start of the day or the start of the bow training if you waste an expensive instant save item. With the exception of the taunting which is out of the control of my character, everything else are things that I do not want my character to do, and that I hate my character for doing. This, is, an adventure, game.

**** The battle system: An unpredictable mess. I like the "six positions" but man did they overcomplicate things. Faints, blocks, dodges... Too much work. But it's ok, if the rest of the game wasn't horrible I would probably feel like investing the time to learn the battle system. I've seen worse.

**** The save system: Well it doesn't really exist, does it??? Make one mistake and basically redo the last day. It's a single player game, give us an option to play in easy mode or whatever where us normal noobs can save whenever we want. Accidents happen more often in games than in real life, which is why we need a save system. Also, half the fun in computer RPG games is enacting "what if" scenarios without having to live with the consequences. How many times how you acted like a moron in Skyrim or in Fallout just to see what would happen? Yeah... Forget that here!!

If you want to play a hard and annoying adventure game following the story of a moron in medieval times, this is the game for you. If you actually want to have fun role-playing your own way, don't touch this.

I struggled with it's combat and lockpicking at first but, after a few hours of practice, I found a truly rewarding experience. Before long I was a swordsman worthy of knighthood, a pickpocket who could pilfer my targets grandmother when I stole from him and a locksmith who could just look at a lock to make it open.

I was somewhat dubious if this game when I started playing but, boy, am I glad I persevered with it. It is one of the best RPG's of this generation and I am hoping that the next game in this franchise is in the works. I have marked it down due to some pretty bad texture and polygon pop-in and a couple of minor bugs without which it would have easily made 9.5/10 for me.

If you enjoy RPG's then please, please play this game. It is an utter pleasure to play and will last you for hundreds of hours. I kept playing until I achieved the platinum trophy which is no small undertaking.

Wow, I wish I hadn't. The game doesn't explain anything. The map doesn't show you where you are. I looked up a guide just for the intro quest and even that was inaccurate. Nothing in this game feels satisfying. Lockpicking is awful. Also, if you start up the game from sleep mode instead of quitting out of the game and sitting through the world's longest initial load screen again, achievements do not unlock. I found this out too late, but fortunately soon enough to get a different achievement easily.

    Good moments:
    - As part of a force of 20 - 30; storming a castle, a bandit camp, and castle. The developers unfortunately didn't do more of this, but there is scope.
    - Storyline is good, there's enough lore so that the game feels genuine.
    - There is enough 'meat' on the game.
    - The forests, and locations feel genuine, whilst going on wanders (many) there are places near me that are similar. Attention to detail on the flora and ambience.
    - Combat is interesting, satisfying when you slay an opponent.

    Bad:
    - Combat is frustrating, like driving a car, what you really want is something that is responsive. It feels muddy, maybe this is because I'm playing with a controller and the FPS isn't the best.
    - The game is very slow to play. Fast travel is not fast travel. Generally, it takes too long to do things.
    - It's not much fun, because it feels like a list of chores to do before you get to a fun aspect of the game.
    - Feels too much of a 'life' simulator. I get what the developers wanted to do, bear in mind though, we all have lives to live.

    Summary:
Not a bad game, but too many slow parts. It's too static, and not dynamic enough; for me anyway.
    - Brewing 60 potions is not fun, brewing 3 - 4 is OK.
    - Escorting someone to the edge of the map, then needing to go somewhere to do something, is not fun. And then having the same thing happen, is not fun.

You will get cut down by knights and bandits and it will fuel your desire to get better every time you pop this game in, taking Henry from a dumb ass blacksmith's son, to a sword-wielding killing machine. The beauty of this game is the normalcy of the missions. Don't expect to have Shadow of Mordor level battles every mission, the slow-pacing, dialogue-heavy, story-rich world in which KCD resides in is what truly makes this a unique game. You won't care that you're not having sword fights every moment of the game because it is an experience just to live in the world of KCD. Some of my favorite parts of the game are the most mundane aspects of it. I even love reading the codex to brush up on my history lessons just to enrich my experience. Knowing the state of toilets in the 15th century, or how most hydration came from alcoholic beverages, or how windows were kept small to trap in heat, just furthers my enjoyment of this game and speaks to how unique of an experience KCD is. Almost everything about the game is poorly explained. How does the upgrade system work? How do I prevent food poisoning? How do I fight multiple enemies? The game never helps you with these things, which causes a lot of frustrations. Another bad thing is the lockpick system, even the very easy lockpicks make me feel like I'm playing dark souls, which is not great for something so simple. Altogether the game feels like a huge disapointment. Expand

I loved the game from the beginning to end. I really enjoyed most of the things that the game tried to do but then again, I started playing it at version 1.71 .

I would still love to have motion(gyro) option for the bow tho. It's no excuse for games in this day and age not to have motion controls for things like archery. I understand why many do not like them but I've always used them

I understand why many do not like them but I've always used them on my Nintendo games/consoles and it feels like trying to split wood blindfolded. Just add an option for the likes of us that do like using gyroscope to make fine aiming adjustments while running and/or on moving targets.

And sure, there can be many more adjustments made to make the game a lot better but what the developers did here is a jewel. You can just tell how this kind of games are completely lacking for some years now. I still play Mount and Blade to fill this medieval fighting need :) and there are so many of us that crave for a proper medieval RPG.

KINGDOM COME: DELIVERANCE it the one that fills a lot of this need but it could be a lot better.

Please don't stop adding content, fixes and DLCs to this game !

This game has a unique way of creating immersion- which it does by encouraging you to make decisions that would make sense in real life and not just because it is a video game. This is a tremendous achievement that I really appreciates, and it made the technical issues negligible for me. (Though I may have had a different opinion had I lost more hours due to corrupt saved games. on ps4!)

The fighting mechanism is new and refreshing. Bow is really hard to use and misses more than it hits, but it makes hitting (and hunting) much more fun. Sword fight has relatively new mechanism that makes the fight interesting for a long part of the game. I don't agree that skill is too important here, I think this game is just good at making you think you are more skilled when you are actually just better because your stamina stats is slowly increasing.

I am a big fan of RPGs especially the Elder Scrolls series so I was very excited for this game especially when its based on a true historical setting.

Let me start with the attention to detail. It is fantastic! You really feel like you're in Medieval Bavaria. Villages have more life than Skyrim and Oblivion. The attention to detail is on point. I love how what you wear and the state of your appearance factors in conversations. You need to remove dirtied or in my case bloodied and smashed combat armor in order to sway conversations in your favour. It can work in your favour out in the battlefield to intimidate enemies etc.

Combat is fun, and you really need to spend time honing skills and getting better gear to actually progress in the story (I'm talking to you Runt!). The fighting especially combat stances is reminiscent to For Honor, which also has similar parrying and dodging movements. You need to target specific areas, with vital weak points eg. aim for the head if they aren't wearing a helmet (again I'm talking to you Runt!).

Battles is where it gets way ward especially on the PS4. The frame rate drops significantly when they are heaps of soldiers in front of you to the point where it gets blurry slow.

They are a lot of graphical bugs, draw distance issues. I see villagers sprouting out of the ground like plants. Textures take time to load, especially when you change gear on your character.

Saving the game can be a nuisance, as auto saves only occur when quests start or when you wake up from sleep. You can buy "Save Schnapps" from merchants to enable you to save whenever you like. I heard they will release a "Save and Exit" option in the next update which will be a god send.

Couple of things that doesn't go well on consoles are lock picking and pick pocketing. It is insanely hard on the controller! Again they will release a patch to fix this.

Level progression is very similar to Skyrim, where you level up depending what you are doing and you can also pay NPCs to train you on your chosen skill.

Overall, it had a rough release but to me the Pros far outweigh the Cons. This game is a very brave attempt to break away from the usual RPGs and tests your limits with as little hand holding as possible.

Game gets a 6 for originality and story without magic, elves and dragons.

I had just written a very positive review, but after finishing the game I'm inclined to change it quite drastically. Despite having loved the combat and the immersiveness of the game (above all, both extremely innovative and rewarding), the graphics, the story, I just feel like this game had a huge potential but some major wrong decisions have turned it into something deeply flawed.

    1) the most obvious one being the bugs. You immediately start to mistrust a developer when they release a game full of bugs. luckily, I started playing in Sept 2018 so it was barely a problem anymore with the patches, but for earlier players it might have been quite tiresome

    2) the ending!! what a cliffhanger! probably the greatest I've ever came across in gaming. Totally disappointing, and looking at the DLC roadmap it doesn't look like they're actually gonna release the rest of the main story

    3) when you make a game with an excellent combat system, when you must have put so much effort into it, and then only a small fraction is combat and again, no "combat mode", no pvp arena, no DLC in sight that will give you a reliable dose of combat.

    4) I was about the buy the first DLC (From the Ashes), but then it was all people on Steam complaining that the spent 10 dollars for just an extra mission. Again, more mistrust in these developers.

Bottom line: if you wanna make a game that costs as much as the top-tier games, it's gotta be top tier. i don't care if your studio is independent or not. And Kingdom Come, despite having huge potential, has some truly unforgivable flaws, half seeming to come from plain bad decisions, the other half from rushing things, greed and lazyness. I can see no replay value, there is no PVP or a "combat mode" to keep playing, and the DLCs seem to be robbery and failling to fill the current gaps. What a waste of potential, can't say this enough.

This game was kind of mazochistic to play. It's slow, full of bugs and bad design ideas -- but somehow I have fond memories of it. It could have been something great, the herald of a new age in RPG, but its clunkyness make it a missed shot at greatness. It's a milestone nonetheless, and a game worth replaying and re-considering. The historical accuracy is a great idea!

Basically, if you were holding off for fixes, as I did, the time is now. It's still a hard game, one that takes practice to improve in all areas. It's gritty, challenging and often frustrating when things go wrong, but it's very human for it. Henry, is far from perfect. Our errors add to the story that he's just some boy out for revenge rather than son of a god, or in any way a chosen one. From the start the speech is amazing, and often very funny. This is a real survival rpg with nothing left out... Highly recommend if that's your genre.
Bug wise, few things like overhanging trees get walked through without moving and music has cut out during combat a few times, maybe a few frame rate drops during larger battles. I was looking forward to complete this game with all side quests and maybe try a platinum trophy... At the first sight, I was amazed by this game and I thought it's amazing, but after some portion of time, it started to be boring, it has no fun or enjoyable side quests, it takes the whole life to manage only one quest because the loading times are too long and fast travel take forever. The last drop for me was the quest in monastery, when if you have only 10 seconds delay and you aren't on the spot that is written on your daily routine, you have broblem, one fuc*ing monk appears and say to you: "Brother?!" ... and he gives you one warning, after three of them, you must go to jail and wait there for three days... And it happens every time... I was so angry at this stupid system that I deleted the game... And Im never ever going to play it again. Sorry Warhorse, there are soo many bugs and this game is not complex, if you find a good gear, combat system starts to be piece of s*it and you can win all fights easily with just one move, ... and you can't pass through small bushes, they are like small invisible walls, god damn guys, we are in the year 2018!... so if you want 60 € for this, you must do better job... 6/10. You can see it's a passion project when playing the game, it's got the TLC from the developers that some studios forgo. I must address the lock-picking too, while it does start off on the hard-side it does become increasingly easier the more you train that skill. I'm now opening Very Hard locks with ease on the PS4. All in all I very much enjoyed this title and I'm itching for the Third Act (next part of the story). Expand

This is a great game! One of the best games I've played in a long time! People complaining about the difficulty of lock-picking and the various other mini-games missed the point of the game. It's not supposed to be easy. You don't become a master a lockpicker in 5 minutes in real life. The story was great. The game looks awesome on the PS4 Pro!

A gorgeous looking game with some of the most fun and inventive quests I have ever played. The game hosts some of the most solid first person sword fighting there is, enjoyable characters and story ,and a rich world to explore.

However an abundance of bugs, pacing issues, disappointing ends to some quest lines and optimization problems keep this game from reaching its full potential.

While Skyrim focused on exploration, and the Witcher focused on story, this game successfully focuses on role-playing and carves out its niche in the RPG world. The bugs: events failing to queue, character bugs, and the occasional sound bug mar the experience but not completely. The story, dialogues, and basic interactions need to be streamlined though. Cutscenes are yawn-inducing and by the end, I didn't care for Henry's story as much as I did for his armor-build. The game thrives on pushing the envelope and as this is Warhorse's very first game, I am more than willing to look past the flaws. I was hyped as anyone could be about this game before coming out. A realistic (emphasis on the realistic part) medieval RPG that wanted to recreate the high middle ages without dragons or magic. An ambitious project to be sure but one faithfully recreated to my satisfaction. I don't think I've ever seen an attention to detail as seen here. From the muddying of clothing to having to learnI was hyped as anyone could be about this game before coming out. A realistic (emphasis on the realistic part) medieval RPG that wanted to recreate the high middle ages without dragons or magic. An ambitious project to be sure but one faithfully recreated to my satisfaction. I don't think I've ever seen an attention to detail as seen here. From the muddying of clothing to having to learn even the most basic of fighting skills (you're a blacksmith with no training), the game immediately immerses you into this world of nobility and knights and knowing your place in it.

You start off as Henry, a blacksmith's son just trying to get by in life when the evil Hungarian scum under the banner of your king's brother comes and turns everything upside down. The main story really doesn't have any alternate paths, maybe a few shortcuts but mostly it's quite linear. You'll have to level up by accomplishing side quests which are for the most engaging and have different ways to solve them. If you don't do these you'll be in a world of hurt later on. The writing and dialogue in these quests is well written and even have some hilarious moments. The combat is not easy, using a hit directional style of attack and defense. You'll most likely get your butt handed to you on a silver platter early on but once you get more skilled and better armor you'll laugh as your enemies flee in terror. Overall, it's a great presentation of rising from rags to riches with some detective work thrown in (apparently a regional governor trusts an illiterate blacksmith to do what his magister can't).

The RPG mechanics are serviceable but some were kind of pointless skills, and you'll quickly figure out which one's you actually need and work on them exclusively. The perks are the same, with many being totally useless regardless of playstyle. Also, many have a tradeoff for some reason, like run faster but also run out of stamina faster. Why? Can't your character just get in better shape and run faster AND farther? Anyway, it's adequate but it feels more could've been done.

The bugs in this game are numerous and this is where the game stumbles from being truly great. Some are only cosmetic issues, others are game breaking. I had everything from hilarious graphical anomalies, to quests failing for no reason or quest notifications firing off even after quest completion. I also had saves get corrupted inducing controller throwing rage after I realized I had lost hours of progress. This is definitely a case where the devs either rushed the game out knowing these bugs were present or just didn't have time to fix them before release. To their credit they have been working to rectify many of these in addition to adding features.

The graphics are a mixed bag; the draw distance is horrendous with pop in textures even at close range. Perhaps the PC version is better but the PS4 version is borderline immersion breaking where people's faces appear on their headless bodies right in front of you. Attention definitely went into character models and facial animations look above average, as well as good weather effects that look amazing when mud forms on the ground with individual puddles. When it's there it looks good and realistic, but by god if that texture pop up doesn't ruin everything.

Overall, it's a good game that suffers from not having enough time to iron out its issues before release. In its initial state I would have given it a 6.5 but because the devs were willing to pour heart and soul into an almost uncharted game type (seriously, how many hyper realistic historical medieval IPs are there?), the love here shows and my personal affection for this time period will let me be generous and award it an 8. If you are a fan of history, realistic RPGs, or adventure games then this is a definite buy. If you're expecting this to be like dragon age or skyrim then you might want to pass. With the improvements and patches this game will soon be truly deserving of accolades. I can't wait to see what else this development team has in store for us.

    End score: 8/10

That is how much I despise this game. Between the numerous bugs and and an absolutely garbage combat system, this game deserves to be thrown to the farthest depths of the Mariana trench and never retrieved. The combat resembles what it would look like if two giraffes had swords taped to their heads and told to go at it; potentially cool for the first few times, if you weren't the giraffe who was given a styrofoam sword, making it near cataclysmically infuriating. It doesn't end there however, as the lockpick mechanic was clearly never fully tested on a controller, making it next to impossible to pick even the supposed easiest of locks. Beyond that still, the ultra realism of the game is downright annoying, forcing you to eat and sleep so you never get too much done at once, it's only a step shy of telling you when you have to take a dump and forcing you to brush your teeth twice during an in-game day. The game even forces you to either sleep or use a special drink to even save your progress, ensuring that if you dare have any other commitment that might need to be addressed in a 2 hour window, you can again forget about progressing at all. The icing on the cake is really that there's no way to make the game easier and attempt to enjoy your experience, there isn't an easy mode and any exploits you might try to use have all been patched out, despite the developers not addressing the game-breaking bugs, which most certainly will leave you unable to complete a few quests. So congratulations War Horse studios, you may have gotten my $60 this time, but I will far, far more resilient to even entertaining the idea of buying into one of these pariahs that you call games. Look, I am a reasonable guy. And I started playing this knowing exactly (or close to exactly) what these guys were doing with this game. It's a "medieval walking simulation" that takes the word "simulation" as far and wide as possible.

And, yes, I see the potential. I actually enjoyed the first hours (which most of the people seem to agree it's dumb - didn't think they were). I liked Henry, I wanted to see his story and I was getting engaged by it: making him wiser, stronger, wittier and ready to be the hero of his story.

But there is simulation and there is PLAIN DUMB. And there is an abyss between those two ideas. While I enjoy the concept of a medieval game that expects me to eat, shower, learn how to read and make my way through a tough life as a survivor, this game just tests our patience to extreme levels. The frustration is just way to high and I don't think it's worth the trouble.

It gets so boring and SO frustrating to try to do something that could be so simple. For example: I know EXACTLY what I have to do, like steal some soldier clothes to avoid being noticed by guards. Ok. I know where I have to go. But then, the game forces you into a ridiculous lockpick game that you'll certainly fail many times and if you have the patience to keep loading over and over and over again (because you have no money and lockpicks costs like, I don't know, the equivalent to a car back in the day) you get through it. But no. While you are trying to deal with the lockpick bullsh*t you also have to deal with guards that pop out of NOWHERE, making that sh*tty armory look as guarded as the White House or something. What? Then you think: ok, I'll sleep so that I can try this by night but the game says you can't, because "you have no time to lose". Arrgh!

This kind of situation is a constant thing in the game, which looks fine, interesting, I actually wanted to see this through. I just don't have the patience so maybe this is just not for me.

Some people complain about the difficulty and, yes, this game requires some patience to learn (highly recommend that you spend some time with the combat trainer in Rattay), but its just like any skill: it takes time to learn and even longer to master. The combat system is quite flexible and deep, but this means that you can't simply expect to pick it up and be a master. Similarly, the game tells the story of the main character, a blacksmith, not a swordsman, not a bowman. You and he learn together. This does mean that combat can be very hard at first and that's definitely not for everyone, but if you're willing to sink a little time into it, its quite rewarding and very fun. I personally have had no issue playing with a ps4 controller, as others have mentioned they had.

To start the game is a buggy mess to the point bethesda games look borderline perfect, bugs, crashes, systems clearly not working with each other in general, you will spend more time staring at loading screens then anything else.

Systems are poorly designed and outright unbelievable at times. Lets start with lockpicking, which is designed to be omnidextrious on consoles which 90% of people are not, but it becomes managable with perks yet the opening area has only 1 easiest lockpick and 4 lockpicks max, it is easibly the most frustrating experience of my life. That is till the combat which is designed for duels yet forces group combat, the second there is more then one opponent the games falls apart and even when you do win enemies will magically revive or will gain massive damage boosts where 1 combo will nearly kill me in full plate. Combos dont register, blocks and dodges teleport you all over, and anytime you are not on flat ground the game goes crazy and randomly registers or not, whatever really as it completely crashes. The crime system is a joke, guards have a sixth sense and will cross the town to find you, npcs see through walls, pickpocketing is tied to rng causing instafails, and most damning of all you will get bounties and rep changes that dont actually appear until you load the game so you will frequently spend hrs doing something only to load the game and find yourself hated with a long jail sentance and too top it off there is no feedback on what you got bounties for so prepare to randomly get bounties while just talking to someone or sleeping.

What has put me on to writing this is that at this time ps4 has been waiting for a patch for almost a month since pc and they are now selling dlc for this broken game, DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BS!!!£

On the flipside, I've gotten stuck in bushes (both on foot and on a horse), shot 40 arrows at a single bunny rabbit to finally hunt it after 41, lost hours worth of game play due to the broken save system (PROTIP: break into someone's house and save/sleep in their bed), and have used more curse words in one night then I thought was possible after trying to learn how to pick locks.

This game has some really high ups but some really low downs (and I'm not talking about trisomy 21). It's painful to see a game with such huge potential get caught up on some really small details that can lead to players quitting altogether. That being said, I understand both the uber-positive and overwhelmingly negative reviews. It should be said that anyone who gives it a 9 or 10 has not experienced a game-breaking glitch. It should also be said that anyone who gives it a 1,2,3, or 4 has not experienced the quest where you take hallucinogens with 3 women and end up having sex with one them while you think they are either a horse, rooster, or pig).

The story is great. Henry is likable and fairly entertaining. The realism is great as well.

The combat is good if you are a melee and takes some skill. The bow is almost useless. Yes, the bow is realistic but this also causes bow gameplay to suffer. They should have made it stronger since they made it take so long to draw. The shots should slow enemies down more than they do. Yes, you can use poisons but again you shouldn't need to with leg shots and head shots.

The bugs and graphic issues are still inexcusable. Money bug causes you to lose all of your money (reloading old saves does not fix it). Talmberg gate bug requires you to cheese your way in and out of the city. Door locks disappear while trying to lock pick. Rain looks like minecraft rain. Peoples heads disappear. Bridges disappear. Loading a save can lock up the game. Constantly have to delete saves to keep saving (it doesn't manage this for you). Bleed can accidentally kill a quest character if punched (the quest character is not meant to be killed in this boxing quest). The list goes on.

The game has too many negatives to justify a passing score at this time. And they want more money for their next installment.

The characters you'll encounter are funny and interesting, the systems used for weapons and armor are deep and engrossing, and you're constantly learning new things about this huge, unique world. I've put something like 30 hours into the game and still haven't visited a few towns. There's a LOT of game here for your money.

That said, there are definitely some issues here, but none of them are that huge in my opinion. First, this game is buggy... really buggy. You'll get stuck in trees, on fences, in rocks. Characters will disappear. Some quests won't function properly. And all of that sucks. But is it reason to avoid this game? No, not at all. Skyrim had its issues and it was also a must-play. This is a small team making a big game -- what that means is that you get a game that has some technical issues but constantly keeps on giving you something new to explore. In essence, this is a passion project, essentially the opposite of what's coming out of EA, Rockstar, and the big guys these days.

Basically, I love this game and hope to see a lot more of it in the form of expansions and sequels in the future.

This is not a "Souls" game, where after many frustrating attempts you finally succeed and be rewarded in some way. No, it's just frustrating most of the time. Even the simplest basic stuff is so annoying difficult, like lock picking. After some hours trying to unlock even one "very easy" chest, I gave up. Games should be challenging, not unplayable.

I love this game so much. I was little worried about performance on base PS4, but everything is OK. Lock-picking is little hard on controller, but I do not need it. I´d rather stun sleeping people and than steal their keys from chests and doors. It´s up to you how you want to play this masterpiece.

I’m rating this game an 8/10 but rounding up from barely scratching a 7.5/10. Even though the concept of the game is very good, the execution falls short many times. I bought this game to scratch a very specific itch in the abscence of a current gen Elder Scrolls game, and it does it but falls short at times.

Graphics are beautiful, but textures pop in when galloping with a horse. Faces and animations are decent, but sometimes lip sync issues occur. The animations used for all character models are the same, after a while you notice that every movement Henry uses is the same than every single character you interact with.

Combat is by far the strongest asset of this game, its fun, challenging and very well polished in terms of animations and balance. The way armors work is fun too, you need to purchase several layers of armor, which make the looting system compensate for the lack of magic, even though some of the textures of the layers of armors you can get can sometimes glitch and show through an upper layer of armor.

The music isn't Jeremy Soule quality, but it is decent enough to provide some level of immersion. Some quests have glitches in animations which causes character models to be in awkward positions and this causes henry to talk to their necks or distorted models.

The way you progress in this game is very realistic and addictive, which is what I think other people don´t get. You are good for nothing at the beginning of the game, every skill you learn is learned from scratch, so archery, swordfighting, lockpicking, sneaking, etc. will be very challenging at the beginning of the game, and will become easier the more you attempt to use these skills.

The story up to the point I have played it (20hrs give and take) is fun and hooks you, you understand your character motivations and get to know his personality and the way he thinks and acts. Henry has some funny comments and moments which can make you giggle or even laugh.

I have to say though, the save system in this game is extremely frustrating. The game only saves when you complete a quest, are issued a quest or when you sleep. Aside from that, you need to save by using a specific item the game provides which is limited and needs to be purchased. It is very immersive and fun that the game tries to make you play in a day to day manner by saving when you sleep, but it can be frustrating that you lose hours of gameplay at a time because the game autosaved just before you begin your travels for the day.

Conversations and dialogue can at times be slow and lack flow, some of the options you have for speech clearly need another option used first for it to make sense. The use of strength, speech and nobility for different dialogue options is entertaining since it shows that the way you are building your character really does matter.

It is important to note that some quests are extremely glitched, and need to be played over again to be able to complete them. It also makes little sense that being a blacksmiths son, the only skill that you cannot learn is smithing.

The change of pace in the gameplay is fun, since you need to take care of many things within cities and villages by investigating, talking, drinking and managing certain responsibilities and then you go and fight for another period of time, which makes the game more addictive.

Cities and villages feel realistic, with a proper amount of people, merchants and quests and activities. The map isn´t by any means huge, but it has a proper size and details to keep you engaged after 20 or so hours. Being close to 30 hours and still having much to explore and discover is a good sign. The places you visit in this game can be absolutely gorgeous. Riding your horse and exploring can be an incredible experience in this game, it is one of its strengths for sure.

Cutscenes and dialogues can be fun and entertaining, but they sometimes get in the way of the game. Sometimes quests have too many of these in between, which is a nice attempt of making a story driven first person RPG, but sometimes it is too exaggerated.

In conclusion, this game has a lot of strengths and assets which makes it very fun to play and addictive if you are an RPG fan like myself. But being honest, it seems that for every strength this game has it also presents a flaw. It gives me the impression that it should have been polished and tested a bit more before release. Buy this game if you are a hardcore RPG fun, you will sure enjoy it, especially if you like Elder Scrolls and Fallout like games. But if you are not that into RPGs and your only reference is The Witcher 3, then this game will disappoint you.

This game is amazing. I am surprised at how well it was down considering the budget. I have over 30 hours in and only had a few minor bugs. I don't think the bugs break the game so don't let that discourage you from this experience.

Once you get to explore the map, it’s all about boring conversations with dull characters, dull questing (very dull side quests), trekking to a quest marker for several minutes while watching posters on your wall because the graphics and the environment are so harsh on PS4. Traveling by foot stamina consumption is a joke, on horse it’s bit faster, until you find an insurmountable tree trunk, or bushes.

There is realism for sure, but all in the wrong places; seemingly adult Henry needs to be fed and slept far too often, hints for items appear only when you’re close enough (it is fun to lick every corner of every house you come across). Battle system may be somewhat realistic, but the feel of it is more like a bum fight. Perks are irrational, you can teach Henry to consume less food and such.. Right there realism goes though the window.
Menu system is really non-user friendly. Inhibited saving is a joke also (no wonder a save mod was made within the first week of release for PC) And lockpicking on PS4 controller, really..

Firewatch on PS store offers you better plot, price and gameplay, if you want a walking simulator.

This negative review is not to scorn Warhorse Studios by any way, I only wanted to write an honest criticism of an overpriced product which in my opinion should have been 20 euro on PS store.
I specifically avoid to compare this title to any preceding games, which may have set the standards too high. Kingdom Come pretty much made me wary to pre-order any full-priced first releases from unknown developers. If they believe in their game, give us PS4 users a demo first.

The voice-acting is sometimes pretty bad. There are lots of bugs (and when a quest is broken, you have to go back like 2 hours, because it didn't auto-save all that time). Lock-picking absolutely sucks with a controller, it's like they didn't even test it out on a controller. The unarmed combat just feels very weird. There is lots of lag, it runs at like 15 fps. Also sometimes you are not really giving a choice, like the character gets very angry and challenges a guy which is way better than him, while I know that's a bad idea but I can't choose. I would recommend waiting, and buy only once most of the issues are fixed. However, when they are fixed, I think this has the potential to be my favourite game of all time. There are just too many bugs now. Expand

You will need to sleep, tend to bleeding wounds and broken bones, eat - and possibly get food poisoning from eating spoiled food. It's perhaps the most realistic game I've played in general, not just in Medieval form. Like reality, the game can also be a bit too harsh, stressful or vague at times...but that can only make your accomplishments feel even greater. Expand

It’s an admirably ambitious and atmospheric game that sometimes sparkles like a diamond, but the PS4 version I played was so ridiculously underdeveloped I couldn’t believe someone had the nerve to publish it in such a disgraceful state. [04/2018, p.45]

Despite the volley of issues that'll be unique to your experience, committing to the universe that Warhorse has built in Kingdom Come: Deliverance still carries an ultimately rewarding feeling. I wonder how much more I'd enjoy it if it were a little smoother (fast travel is not fast), but the atmosphere doesn't shy away from the brutality of the era, how rugged life was centuries ago as well as the omnipresence of God in their everyday lives, from conversation to action.

A much more realistic take on the Elder Scrolls formula which will delight some fans of that series while frustrating others.
