The mechanics in this game are HORRIBLE. I have no idea what they were thinking when they had gameplay testers come on and try the ps4 port of any of these mechanics (especially lockpicking) and say "this is good, it's ready for release".

LIKE HELL IT WAS! You can't even change the sensitivity settings on PS4 for your analog sticks. You can't even remap any of the asinine non-intuitive controls. Why oh WHY is triangle not jump? What were they THINKING??

Combat is a mess as well. In theory it's cool but in practice all you do is cheese the AI because trying to fight anyone "legit" will just end up with you needing to use 7 expensive bandages to clog your wounds before you bleed out. I'm down with realism but at a certain point there needs to be ways to fight at least SOME of the enemies early game and stand a chance without being cheesy to the AI.

Every single mechanic in this game is unfun. Lockpicking? Oh here break a million expensive locks trying to pick an "easy" lock. Oh you broke a lock and someone is remotely in the vicinity? GUAAARDS! Hope you spent half your gold to stock up on a few "save your game" potions. Hope those save your game potions didn't make you too drunk to pick the lock. And even if you did all those, since you will break that lock 99% of the time, spend the next two hours of your life having zero fun while you reload your save and it takes 60 seconds each time.

Oh you like alchemy? Here's the instruction book that you can't read, it gives you ingredients but no actual instructions on what the **** else you need to do to. Now watch as you spend several minutes going through the asinine and overly complicated process they force you to go through just to fail making the potion anyway. Time to google how to do it since the game is crap at explaining it, because constantly having to google things in games is FUN aint it!?

You'll be doing a lot of googling while playing this game because NOTHING in this game is explained or makes sense. For instance you go out and hunt an animal and take the meat. Oh the meat counts as stolen and you lose respect w/ the trader because you tried to sell the meat you just hunted? THAT SURE MAKES SENSE DOESN'T IT!? Then you google it and find out it's because apparently all land in the game belongs to some noble and they can magically tell which meat you hunted and consider it stolen if you hunted it on their grounds. What great design! Truly a masterpiece of our generation!

In short the game is just not very fun to play at all. And yes, after a while things become easier, but not because you learn their **** mechanics or anything like that. Nope, it's just because in true poorly designed modern rpg fashion you eventually spend the resources to level your skills up and you get "perks" that make the mechanics function like they should have all along (auto brew potions, lockpicks don't break as easily, etc.)

This game is 100% frustration and disappointment. The only positive thing I can really say about the game is the setting is unique and they do a good job of trying to make it historically accurate and are minimal on the fantasy elements which is a slight breath of fresh air. But it just blows my mind how bad most the mechanics are in the game. I didn't go over all of them but trust me every single one is not just bad, but god awful and horrible in fact. Archery for example is a complete joke. I would never recommend getting this game unless they patch all of this dumb crap. Especially don't get the ps4 version as it has zero options as far as tweaking your settings (which blows my mind because in the PC version you actually can control sensitivity)

Some mechanics like pickpocketing or everyone being killable are really fun and the game gives you some hilarious unscripted moments - like when you steal side character's gear and then they rush enemies in nothing but their underwear (sorry Ulrich).
RPG elements are really weak - there isn't really anything important to decide and you can't really control how the main character behaves and responds.
Game with immense potential that wasn't executed well, at least on consoles.

So far the story is good, graphics are mostly good
but the game have a lot of bugs ( some game-breaking ) and it is apparent it have been designed for PC.
My attack do not connect, they pass through ennemy like if nothing happen
Lockpicking is horrible with a controller
in dialog sometimes faces animation are ugly and eyes are not pretty.

I want to love this game. I've been looking forward to it for some time, and was so excited to play it.
But after finishing the prologue i got stuck with the lock picking at the executioners house, which can easily be said to be awful. The PS4 version makes it impossible to turn the lock with the sticks and simply breaks the pin, even though i have the marker golden the whole time.

I gave up and started the main story which ended up with me having to put my controller down after a couple of hours being frustrated beyond measure. The lock on, the FPS, the combat is a nightmare, im suddenly dying and unable to block or attack for seconds!. The game is, in my opinion, not playable on the PS4, even though i am dying to play it.
i value gameplay so high, and was praying for this system to work, but it didn't...
still i end up coming back to this game over and over again, which ends up with me putting down the controller in a mix between rage and frustration.

If they had taken the parts that worked and made a more consistent, streamlined game that you could actually play, it would have been much better than this heaping mess we're stuck with. I have poured in just over 35 hours into K.C.D and I have never endured such a throbbing headache from a game so frustrating as this. On my PS4Pro, the visuals are blurry in the homescreen! The homescreen! Nothing renders good at all until I'm two feet away and once its clear it looks like something from 2010. The world is dull and seems empty except within townships, horseplay is dreadful, archery is down right broken and swordplay... I am not even going to comment on the swordplay. For the time I spent in combat no matter how many times I encouraged myself to try again, train in the training ground, get used to the controls, I just could not get over the learning curve. Maybe I just suck at this game, and maybe also if the game wasn't so awful to look at sometimes and somewhat boring besides the story itself which is not bad, I might be able to keep trying.

Ok so good things are the characters seem interesting enough, I certainly want to know what happens with Henry. The music is very nice and the sounds are wonderful in the wild. I applaud the devs effort, I appreciate their vision and the depth of this rpg. I hope they make some fixes patch this up and make it playable for me and those who feel the same way I do. I believe they are onto something here but current state of the game is simply not ready. A shame.

They’re broken, not open ended, and illogical, as well as completely inaccurate to what real people, let alone real Bohemian medieval citizens, would do, so it completely kills any sense of immersion. Many of the game’s quirks are justified on the grounds of realism, but the quests (and a lot of character actions) completely killed any immersion for me, which is a shame.

I'm ashamed of myself for having spent 120 hours playing this, because it represents a large amount of time wasted on tedious gameplay that is of a low quality.

KC:D is a very ambitious, buggy, poor-executed slog. It's like the Gothic series in a realistic medieval setting without the fun, and with many complicated obtuse game systems tacked on in a messy casserole. There are an enormous number of quests in KC:D, many of which are buggy exercises in frustration with unclear instructions. The writing is dull and workmanlike. To accomplish anything seems to involves a tedious minigame. It is quirky, frustrating, and oddly addicting at times.

Kingdom Comes harkens back to old-school RPGs that don't hold your hand. The scope of the game is quite large, but it is lacking some essential quality, and fails to balance the tight-rope between fun and tedium, more often than not falling into the latter.

A example of this is a quest named "In God's Hands," which is one of the most terribly designed quests I've ever experienced. You have to save a variety of patients in a hospital ward. It's a timed quest as people start dying if you take too long. It involves running back and forth to many cities with unclear instructions. In the middle of this quest is embedded another quest named "Man of the Cloth" that requires running back and forth to distant cities in fetch it quest style, and is so bugged that it cannot be completed unless you look up threads online. It almost can't be done if you don't use a guide.

Another example is how broken the "realistic" combat is. You can choose to stab or swing from 5 different attack angles, block, dodge, parry, yet it's basically impossible to unlock from a target to run away because you automatically relock after a second. The game could have greatly benefitted from someone in the room saying, "Wait, this part is lame, broken, and unfun. We should fix it or take it out"

By the time of the epilogue, I was skipping cutscenes because I wanted it to end and didn't care anymore about the trite politics behind the story, and didn't think I could stand more buggy gameplay. That's when I encountered a showstopper bug in the way of not being able to talk to Hans Capon to end the game. I had to finish his DLC first. That was a truly disheartening moment.

Pro's: A unique map style, (presumably) accurate historical facts, above functional voice acting, and a collection of gear fits the medieval theme. Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Real lifePro's: A unique map style, (presumably) accurate historical facts, above functional voice acting, and a collection of gear fits the medieval theme. Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Real life archery was not as difficult as this game made it out to be. Any graphical attraction is overtaken by the numerous errors in loading, crashing, and T-poses. These are common occurrence. The save system could be interesting. However, the game crashes without being able to save regularly, without a lengthy (albeit enjoyable) process. Whoever made this game failed to test it beyond a few seconds because some game components sound beneficial but are taken too far. For instance, people can be aware of stealing according to noise. They will call out, “What was that?” This would not continually loop because NPC's go to investigate, and they will interrupt the activity with dialogue. That would have been fine, except it can happen with your own home’s chest. It’s not hard to find either because it’s at the beginning of the Tame, and such function, prevents you from saving during some missions. Last, traveling outside of a fast travel feels like going through a hallway with shrubbery that acts as fences to force the use winding roads, which gives the option of slow trot or medieval bumper cars (i.e., running into the environment). Quite possibly the worst combat system in years. This one has three strengths from the protagonist at the beginning to only takes damage for an extremely particularly timed counter. That means a quarter of the enemies will give an unstoppable attack by merely attempting to attack first. They are waiting to counter leads to another tedious experience because these combatants attack far less than any others. It has taken a ridiculous amount of time to have the opportunity to attempt a counter finally. Even then, they take a significantly reduced amount of damage, so this ordeal becomes a chore. More difficult enemies taunt you with their superior ability to use combos when you cannot (i.e., only a perfect counter)!

Multiple enemies will try to swarm from all directions. The game offers no means to counter this, so it’s either fight the combat system to change targets (excruciating) or utilize the only player strength of jumping to navigate the terrain. My suggestion to any considering this game would be to only get it on PC and mod it.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Back when I first actually finished the game, the experience at most was a 7/10 for me. This game is incredibly BROKEN, STILL. It even feels worse! Also after all this time, they couldn't be bothered to at least make sure the game performed okay on console - they haven't done jack sh** to optimize it better! The DLC supplied as well was garbage, fluff to keep the devs from working on the real issues - the game is just flat out broken at parts, with bugs that stop you from completing quests entirely. It's like the entire team forgot how to bug test after release. I got up to the big battle of the Cuman/bandit hideout and just ended up destroying my copy of the game. Just shredding it to pieces. The amount of time put in just to see enemies respawn and kill your entire team and you, probably over 20 times, just drove me insane. Literally unplayable at this point now. Stick to the PC version if you can, and avoid the console ports at all costs. Expand

I guess Bethesda Studios games really AREN'T all that buggy, by comparison.

Maybe after another 20 years of experience with the genre, this studio too can get their bugs down to a mere Bethesda RPG level, instead of just the complete mess that they have here. Beyond the constant gamebreaking bugs, some of the systems are so broken on a fundamental level that I doubt patches will be

Oh well. Neat concept, terribly executed.

Backed this game 2 years before release, and let me tell you, what a massive let down.
This game is an absolute bug ridden mess, it should have NEVER been released in its current state, its at beta stage to be generous, bordering alpha its that buggy.
I am totally astounded that warhorse studios are charging AAA price for this game, its FAR from finished. Currently i cannot progress

Currently i cannot progress past the very first quest of the game because of a bug that wont allow me to talk to a npc. I am now stuck in the starting area, a tiny little town and cannot progress any further. This is what i call a game breaking bug.
Have a look on the official kingdom come website forum before you buy to get a understanding at how buggy this release was.
    Huge potential, wasted sadly.

It might be a great game, but bugs...bugs are everywhere!

No wonder why there was no previews of this before release, from the drops in frame rate to the unbelievable amounts of bugs and crashes to the dead world outside of the city, with some of the worst colour patterns I’ve seen make this an absolute piece of overhyped trash. It’s an admirably ambitious and atmospheric game that sometimes sparkles like a diamond, but the PS4 version I played was so ridiculously underdeveloped I couldn’t believe someone had the nerve to publish it in such a disgraceful state. [04/2018, p.45]

Despite the volley of issues that'll be unique to your experience, committing to the universe that Warhorse has built in Kingdom Come: Deliverance still carries an ultimately rewarding feeling. I wonder how much more I'd enjoy it if it were a little smoother (fast travel is not fast), but the atmosphere doesn't shy away from the brutality of the era, how rugged life was centuries ago as well as the omnipresence of God in their everyday lives, from conversation to action.

A much more realistic take on the Elder Scrolls formula which will delight some fans of that series while frustrating others.
