I'm ashamed of myself for having spent 120 hours playing this, because it represents a large amount of time wasted on tedious gameplay that is of a low quality.

KC:D is a very ambitious, buggy, poor-executed slog. It's like the Gothic series in a realistic medieval setting without the fun, and with many complicated obtuse game systems tacked on in a messy casserole. There are an enormous number of quests in KC:D, many of which are buggy exercises in frustration with unclear instructions. The writing is dull and workmanlike. To accomplish anything seems to involves a tedious minigame. It is quirky, frustrating, and oddly addicting at times.

Kingdom Comes harkens back to old-school RPGs that don't hold your hand. The scope of the game is quite large, but it is lacking some essential quality, and fails to balance the tight-rope between fun and tedium, more often than not falling into the latter.

A example of this is a quest named "In God's Hands," which is one of the most terribly designed quests I've ever experienced. You have to save a variety of patients in a hospital ward. It's a timed quest as people start dying if you take too long. It involves running back and forth to many cities with unclear instructions. In the middle of this quest is embedded another quest named "Man of the Cloth" that requires running back and forth to distant cities in fetch it quest style, and is so bugged that it cannot be completed unless you look up threads online. It almost can't be done if you don't use a guide.

Another example is how broken the "realistic" combat is. You can choose to stab or swing from 5 different attack angles, block, dodge, parry, yet it's basically impossible to unlock from a target to run away because you automatically relock after a second. The game could have greatly benefitted from someone in the room saying, "Wait, this part is lame, broken, and unfun. We should fix it or take it out"

By the time of the epilogue, I was skipping cutscenes because I wanted it to end and didn't care anymore about the trite politics behind the story, and didn't think I could stand more buggy gameplay. That's when I encountered a showstopper bug in the way of not being able to talk to Hans Capon to end the game. I had to finish his DLC first. That was a truly disheartening moment.

I gave this game a couple chances, but I still hate it. It's pretty linear (not open world, at all), and the story and characters are all really poorly-written.

You do not start off as a peasant, unfortunately you are a character with a mental disability. I do not know why they decided to do this, but it is not entertaining. The lockpicking is just dumb, and not one bit at all realistic. The bow and arrow system is horrendous, again leading to believe that the developers took absolutely no time to research what it's like to use a bow, which you think is quite critical. The combat system is genius, if it could be executed the way the developers imagined. But since it doesn't, it's also broken. Everything in this game screams amateur, and clearly a studio that but off more than it could handle. It's quite bad, and even embarrassing. Even if it's free, I wouldn't play this, unless you're a masochist.. Oh, yea, and the developers over the course of four years have fixed nothing. No wonder a sequel hasn't been announced Expand

This game runs like a pinto. Cannot even do the first quest because the screen tearing is bad on ps5. These devs should be forced to update the game to handle the terrible FPS dropping so people can at least play the game without feeling nauseous just from the poor performance.

I have to give them credit for their ambition, but this project was clearly too big for them to manage. If they had taken the parts that worked and made a more consistent, streamlined game that you could actually play, it would have been much better than this heaping mess we're stuck with. I'll certainly keep an eye on what the studio does next, but I won't hold my breath. Expand

    Great tale and great chars.
Controls sucks, textures need fixes, AI is poor, many game mechanics broken or just sucks. Everything feels poorly executed and I mean everything (Archery, lock-picking, pickpocketing,etc.).
The hyped combat system is just crap.

Get the Royal Edition at PSN store winter sale, and after 10+ hours into the game, my patience is completely exhausted. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but as a game, it's really terrible.

    * The loading time is pathetically long.

    * The graphic is not a deal-breaker, but far from "gorgeous" for 2018's standard.

    * The interaction control is basically broken when playing with a console controller. It's a nightmare when you want to pick up something small or something put in the middle of a large table. In other console games, this can be easily solved by letting user interact with the table/cabin instead. But KC:D insist that you can only interact with these tiny things on a larger surface using that miserable yellow dot in the center of screen.

    * Gathering herb is also clunky due to the above reason. I don't have even once pick up a sage or dandelion without moving using left stick for 30 seconds and finally get it done by pointing that yellow dot half-a-meter away from the plants.

    * The view angle is weird and give me mild motion sickness while turning around or walking in narrow paths. I've never had motion sickness in first-person view games before. The developer team just forgot that people are sitting meters away from the TV when they're playing on console, and we need different rendering settings of view angle.

    * The control button mapping is unforgiving and there is no way to remap it. Who on earth would think square button means "Jump" would be a good idea ?

    * The AI and action script of NPCs are coded like they're directly ported from some pre-2010 PS3-era games.

    * The combat control is so clunky like I was playing MMO games with extremely high ping.

    * I didn't run into game breaking bug yet but already found a bunch of glitches everywhere in just few hours of game play.

    * The archery is unnecessarily difficult. It doesn't matter how the protagonist can do after leveling up, but you just can't remove all the aiming support in a video game. In real world we can estimate the distance between ourselves and the target because we have two eyes, and we have stereoscopic sense. There is no way to do so in video game, since the only information you can get from 2D rendered pixels is the scale.

    * This may have been mentioned by someone else: where are all the crossbows ? In real world mediaeval era, crossbows superseded bows in all Europe armies since 12th century, except England. It's not about how "cheese" the protagonist can be with a crossbow; it's about historical correctness.

    * The lock-picking mini game is simply punishing players who play this game on console.

    * Many of the disadvantages mentioned above can be mitigated if this game offers a "normal" Save & Load approach. But you just don't have it.

Just avoid playing this game on console. Buy PC version instead if you're interested in this medieval life simulator. At least you can have mods that make some of those tedious issues barely tolerable.

Pro's: A unique map style, (presumably) accurate historical facts, above functional voice acting, and a collection of gear fits the medieval theme. Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Con's: the first half of the game (arguably more) is only difficult because it is tedious. Most skills are locked out completely. Even when unlocked, some skills are excruciatingly tedious to level up (i.e., lock picking and archery). Real life archery was not as difficult as this game made it out to be. Any graphical attraction is overtaken by the numerous errors in loading, crashing, and T-poses. These are common occurrence. The save system could be interesting. However, the game crashes without being able to save regularly, without a lengthy (albeit enjoyable) process. Whoever made this game failed to test it beyond a few seconds because some game components sound beneficial but are taken too far. For instance, people can be aware of stealing according to noise. They will call out, “What was that?” This would not continually loop because NPC's go to investigate, and they will interrupt the activity with dialogue. That would have been fine, except it can happen with your own home’s chest. It’s not hard to find either because it’s at the beginning of the Tame, and such function, prevents you from saving during some missions. Last, traveling outside of a fast travel feels like going through a hallway with shrubbery that acts as fences to force the use winding roads, which gives the option of slow trot or medieval bumper cars (i.e., running into the environment). Quite possibly the worst combat system in years. This one has three strengths from the protagonist at the beginning to only takes damage for an extremely particularly timed counter. That means a quarter of the enemies will give an unstoppable attack by merely attempting to attack first. They are waiting to counter leads to another tedious experience because these combatants attack far less than any others. It has taken a ridiculous amount of time to have the opportunity to attempt a counter finally. Even then, they take a significantly reduced amount of damage, so this ordeal becomes a chore. More difficult enemies taunt you with their superior ability to use combos when you cannot (i.e., only a perfect counter)!

Multiple enemies will try to swarm from all directions. The game offers no means to counter this, so it’s either fight the combat system to change targets (excruciating) or utilize the only player strength of jumping to navigate the terrain. My suggestion to any considering this game would be to only get it on PC and mod it.

How realistic can be talking to a motionless person’s face, while half of his head is stuck in a wall? The story is not compelling at all, the combat is incredibly dumb and not realistic at all, since the auto-lock feature makes it impossible either to run or fight properly, it feels unresponsive, robotic, you can only do 2 attacks, the “combos” are non-existent. The impossibility to custom the HUD is also a major issue of the game, the yellow dot at the center of the screen is so goddamn annoying (and useless, too). The graphics are beyond horrible, not even Oblivion has such unpolished textures, and that’s the tip of the iceberg. Character design is very superficial, 90% of the people in the villages are just stupid NPC’s who you cannot even talk to. You call this realism? This is not even good for fiction. How can this overhyped unfinished game be on the PSN store? The PC version has, at least, a modding community that makes the experience playable.
Honestly, I wouldn’t want to give this game for free to anyone. Do not waste your time on this if you have a console, search for something else.

Some mechanics like pickpocketing or everyone being killable are really fun and the game gives you some hilarious unscripted moments - like when you steal side character's gear and then they rush enemies in nothing but their underwear (sorry Ulrich).
RPG elements are really weak - there isn't really anything important to decide and you can't really control how the main character behaves and responds.
Game with immense potential that wasn't executed well, at least on consoles.

They’re broken, not open ended, and illogical, as well as completely inaccurate to what real people, let alone real Bohemian medieval citizens, would do, so it completely kills any sense of immersion. Many of the game’s quirks are justified on the grounds of realism, but the quests (and a lot of character actions) completely killed any immersion for me, which is a shame.

Despite the volley of issues that'll be unique to your experience, committing to the universe that Warhorse has built in Kingdom Come: Deliverance still carries an ultimately rewarding feeling. I wonder how much more I'd enjoy it if it were a little smoother (fast travel is not fast), but the atmosphere doesn't shy away from the brutality of the era, how rugged life was centuries ago as well as the omnipresence of God in their everyday lives, from conversation to action.
