J-Stars Victory Vs+

Very young and very undemanding fans of shōnen manga may get a fleeting kick out of J-Stars Victory VS+, but there’s too much cheaper (and superior) competition currently available across all platforms to warrant a half-hearted recommendation.

There's a good game hidden in here somewhere, but believe us when we say it's been buried pretty well and we're pretty sure that it's not going to surface any time soon. [Issue#260, p.72]

Unfortunately, J-Stars Victory VS+ isn’t quite good enough to warrant a buy for most people. If you are a big fan of the anime/manga franchises contained within it, check it out.

.J-Stars is another case of a Japanese game that preaches convincingly to its chosen choir.

J-Stars Victory Versus+ has a lot of heart, but that heart doesn't guarantee good gameplay.

J-Stars Victory VS+ doesn't look all that hot, offers inconsistent controls and camera, and features wildly unbalanced characters. While it was admittedly awesome to see Vegeta from Dragon Ball power up in a manner 100% authentic to how he is on screen, there's just nothing here for those who aren't already sold on the characters and franchises.

J-Stars Victory VS+ fumbles what should have been a glorious, celebratory experience. It’s combat is banal, its design is overcomplicated and its presentation is completely halfhearted.

J-Stars Victory Vs. + mostly gets the job done when it comes to delivering a manic anime-based brawler for fans that have been waiting for the next Jump Superstars. But more could've easily been done with it, especially with the presentation and the fighting system.

J-Stars Victory Vs+ accomplishes what it sets out to do. It is pure fan-service for fans of anime, most importantly the series it includes.

J-Stars Victory Vs+ brings together some good fighting moments with popular Bandai Namco licenses, while offering up somewhat addictive, yet sporadic, gameplay flow. Improvements in environment variety, CPU artificial intelligence and visuals could help to make this a more memorable brawler in the future, as it falls short in these categories as it stands.

Despite a great cast of characters, J-Stars Victory Vs.+ fails to leverage their charm on or off the battlefield.

J-Stars Victory VS+ is a love letter to manga and anime fans, specifically those who enjoy Weekly Shonen Jump. True fans of the genre will find the story mode entertaining as well as the references to many renown franchises, while outsiders are left with nothing of interest at all.

If you are a fan of most Japanese manga ip's, forget about J-Stars Victory VS+ which is mainly a cashpump with licensing but that's it. The technical side is a mess and the gameplay is far from average. Only recommended to the most hardcore of otakus.

It's good to see the localization of games like J-Stars Victory in order to attend the loyal manga and anime fans. This game is good in references and fan service but regular on the gameplay mechanics with some troubles with combat and camera. At the end of the day some fans will be able to enjoy the whole experience.

If you want a game with decent combat, it might be a good idea to check J-Stars out. However, if graphics are important to you, you might want to take a pass on this one.

J-Stars Victory VS is very playable. But, when you consider that the entire purpose of this game's existence is to act as fan service, the fact that it fails to offer the kind of fan service that would have had fans clamouring for it is incredibly disappointing.

J-Stars Victory VS+ is built specifically for fans of the numerous franchises represented within with an enjoyable story mode, but outsiders will likely find nothing of interest here.

A solid character roster coupled with some eye-catching combat is what this beat-'em-up is all about – even if it could afford to take some more risks, given the wealth of source material on offer.

For me, J-Stars Victory VS + started out strong but petered out in the end as its shallow fighting mechanics became apparent, but even with these limitations, the varied (At least visually) roster and breakneck online multiplayer makes the game worth a look for fighting fans in the market for something a little different.

Interesting game that pulls together 32 different franchises of Shonen Jump into a fighting game, with a story mode, an online mode and an arcade mode, only for the western version. We miss some characters and more stages. However, you can't miss this if you're a fan of manga and/or anime.

Manga die-hards are bound to get a real kick out of J-Stars Victory VS+. The level of fan service here is on point and there’s a solid fighting game to back it up. That said, after just a few hours it begins to lose steam, becoming less and less appealing as something you’d want to play for long sessions.

The flaws will probably dampen your enjoyment too much – and, to be fair, there are more accomplished fighting games out there.

Ultimately, J-Stars Victory VS+ only succeeds as numbers on paper, the game itself being largely disappointing.
