Ion Fury is a wonderful, lightning fast and damn challenging shooter, with expert level design. Not everything works perfectly - an overpowered shotgun and clumsy auto-aim are the game's main annoyances - but don't let that stop you from trying this.

Despite small restrictions on consoles in terms of control, Ion Fury still is a great old-school-shooter.

Despite some of the complaints I have, Ion Fury is still a fantastic game that can hopefully kick-start a resurgence in classic, FPS games.

Ion Fury takes inspiration from the great retro shooters of the industry and runs with it. High-octane gunfights mixed with retro style and one-liners is a formula that never gets old. Ion Fury is a retro fix all its own, and it does it so well. Despite its setbacks, it's a blast to play and worthy of Build engine that it utilizes.

Ion Fury wears its clouded nostalgia lens and never takes them off. While newcomers to the 2.5D shooter sub-genre may be driven away, older gamers will adore this newest addition to the pantheon of great build engine games. With an electric drum 'n' bass score, some impressive cyberpunk locales, and some of the most memorable easter eggs I have come across, Ion Fury is a fast and furious shooter with a lot going for it.

Despite some issues, Ion Fury is one the best choices for classic FPS fans, especially if played on PC.

Ion Fury is a good game, but the adaptation to consoles is not that good. Bad framerate and lack of basic options like inverting the Y axis (although it should be fixed with a patch soon) are a quite disappointing, although the core, retro experience remains.

Using the build engine, which is now 25 years old, they've done a great job of creating a vibrant and colourful cyberpunk-esque future. Control and gunplay feel really smooth and the campaign is surprisingly long, without ever overstaying it's welcome. A nice throwback to the days when games weren't saddled with endless dlc, forced multiplayer, hours of cutscenes and the developer's social agendas.

Only minor complaints I have are the lack of enemy variety in the first half of the game, and 2 small types that are hard to hit and overused. But in many ways it feels like the real successor to Duke Nukem 3D.

They've just tried to adapt the PC Mouse controls to the controller and it fails big time. Controls are awkward and a concert reminder that you're playing on the wrong platform. Visually it's designed to look like a retro game but as someone who grew up playing this I have two games it really didn't give me that much nostalgia. Full Review »
