Just A little too punishing for me
Immortal Unchained is a 3rd person shooter souls like game where you play as your own created character from a choice of multiple claases across an around 8 hour long campaign where you run through every level collecting as many forgotten bits as you can throughout the world but mostly off of defeated enemies and using these bits to level your character up. .as they work like souls.. and much like the souls games, dying means you drop them and its up to you to go recollect them without dying on your way back…
And this game was just a bit too slow paced for me..
I didn’t beat it..
I don’t have the patience, but from what I did see, before this game beat me into submission, I can tell this is a solid game..
Its has all of the right things going for it… there are hidden loot chests with new guns and scraps to upgrade these guns, enemy encounters are all a threat, this game is challenging from start to finish..
There are boss battles, there are doors you can unlock to shorten paths to new areas…
the hook of grinding and killing enemies is there… getting strong if a boss is giving you trouble for example…
However I just feel like there is an unbalance that kept the challenge from feeling fun to me..
As while these types of games aren’t something I typically see through to the end… I still enjoy them humbling me, chewing me up and spitting me out..
Here is just felt like immortal unchained was a tad more on the frustrating side than challenging…
For starters the loot system… weapons have certain requirements before you can equip them which is annoying… you cant build your character around yoyur play style… you have to build them around requirements of the better weapon you just picked up… and the grind for leveling up your stats to meet these requirements is just too much…
leveling up 1 stat increases your overall level instead of each stat having their own separate levels… this means that if you ignore a certain stat and later on want to level it up even once.. its gouing to cost you thousands of bits instead of 1 thousand for example… its just frustrating and makes the grind seem not even worth it…
But all of this aside, enemies are just far too spongey… im a huge believer that no enemy in a video game should eat up multiple clips… there are times its forgiving like in borderlands.. but that’s only because there is ammo all over the place… in immortal unchained.. theres no ammo.. anywhere.. it only refills when you go to a save point which respawns every enemy in an area like a campfire in a souls game…
this is frustrating because by time you make your way back to the boss that just killed you, you’ve got practically no ammo and have to rely on melee…
But even still I could look over this if reaload speed wasn’t so god awful slow…
The time it takes to empty a clips is almost identical to the time it takes to reload the clip.. its just unnacceptable and makes combat feel frustrating.. its ridiculous…
all of the things are here to make this an enjoyable game.. but it sets out to punish you because that’s its goal.. to just be difficulty.. it succeeds in that, but youll need to be a gltuten for punishment to get the most out of this game
I give Immortal Unchained
a 6.0/10… Expand
