Immortal Unchained is a 3rd person shooter souls like game where you play as your own created character from a choice of multiple claases across an around 8 hour long campaign where you run through every level collecting as many forgotten bits as you can throughout the world but mostly off of defeated enemies and using these bits to level your character up. .as they work like souls.. and much like the souls games, dying means you drop them and its up to you to go recollect them without dying on your way back…
And this game was just a bit too slow paced for me..
    I didn’t beat it..
I don’t have the patience, but from what I did see, before this game beat me into submission, I can tell this is a solid game..
Its has all of the right things going for it… there are hidden loot chests with new guns and scraps to upgrade these guns, enemy encounters are all a threat, this game is challenging from start to finish..
There are boss battles, there are doors you can unlock to shorten paths to new areas…
the hook of grinding and killing enemies is there… getting strong if a boss is giving you trouble for example…
However I just feel like there is an unbalance that kept the challenge from feeling fun to me..
As while these types of games aren’t something I typically see through to the end… I still enjoy them humbling me, chewing me up and spitting me out..
Here is just felt like immortal unchained was a tad more on the frustrating side than challenging…
For starters the loot system… weapons have certain requirements before you can equip them which is annoying… you cant build your character around yoyur play style… you have to build them around requirements of the better weapon you just picked up… and the grind for leveling up your stats to meet these requirements is just too much…
leveling up 1 stat increases your overall level instead of each stat having their own separate levels… this means that if you ignore a certain stat and later on want to level it up even once.. its gouing to cost you thousands of bits instead of 1 thousand for example… its just frustrating and makes the grind seem not even worth it…
But all of this aside, enemies are just far too spongey… im a huge believer that no enemy in a video game should eat up multiple clips… there are times its forgiving like in borderlands.. but that’s only because there is ammo all over the place… in immortal unchained.. theres no ammo.. anywhere.. it only refills when you go to a save point which respawns every enemy in an area like a campfire in a souls game…
this is frustrating because by time you make your way back to the boss that just killed you, you’ve got practically no ammo and have to rely on melee…
But even still I could look over this if reaload speed wasn’t so god awful slow…
The time it takes to empty a clips is almost identical to the time it takes to reload the clip.. its just unnacceptable and makes combat feel frustrating.. its ridiculous…
all of the things are here to make this an enjoyable game.. but it sets out to punish you because that’s its goal.. to just be difficulty.. it succeeds in that, but youll need to be a gltuten for punishment to get the most out of this game
    I give Immortal Unchained
    a 6.0/10

About me: I love Soul games. I played Demon's, all three Darks, Nioh, and the Surge. I even love poorly implemented janky as heck Souls games. See above, I played Demon's and the Surge.

This is a bad game. Not a bad Souls game. A bad game, game. I bought it at launch, I played 10 hours. I uninstalled it in rage. Note I played on PS4 pro.

The graphics are like PS3 era. This would be acceptable if the game didn't suffer from tons of texture pop, stutters and low framerates during the most basic operations.

The game focuses on ranged combat. This would be amazing if every single enemy didn't have about 30% more range than you do and be able to kill you in 2 or 3 shots. It takes time to go in and out of aim, reload is canceled by every single action so you constantly find yourself dry trying to get one or two hits in.

The weapons are limp and uninteresting, the constant actions delay leaves you desperately wishing your character would do anything you ask him. Like if you aim and shoot, get ready to wait 1-2 seconds before it registers reload or use item. This happens on every action.

I got as far as an area in which you had to fight multiple teleporting enemies who could easily shoot you from twice your range and could kill you in a single volley. That's like, whatever, Dark Souls man, git gud. Then they started teleporting reliably into the geometry where I couldn't shoot them but they could shoot me. There is no reason to suffer this game. Go play literally anything else.

The negative reviews on Steam are real. Obviously I can't comment on the PC release, but I can't believe it's better than this by any margin.

Also the Lore and Cut-scenes constantly talk up there being 9 planets and 9 realms or whatever. You get exactly 3. There are gates for more in your hub, but I don't know if they are planned DLC or never going to be done or what.

Finally ever boss fight, all of them, is just target lock, hold right on the stick, walk around them until they do an animation so you can shoot their back. Rise & Repeat. So the hallmark and most fun of most of these kind of games is just also limp and boring.

I think it's rather telling the game has no like real reviews at all yet from review sites. So I hope this saves someone else from making my mistake and spending $50 bucks on this.

The interconnected regions, the challenge, dropping your experience where you die, and then fighting your way back to regain it.
The game is obviously made on a smaller budget. It lacks the great polish of a From Software game, and the graphics are subpar (im playing on a PS4 Pro with a 55" 4K Smart TV). However, the gunplay is pretty well done. There are lots of different guns as well as melee weapons, each requiring certain attribute levels in order to use. The worlds are well done, with shortcuts to open up, just like you're used to.
There are 6 classes to choose from, each with different starting stats and perks, as well as a particular weapon focus, although you dont have to stay that way. I leveled up my strength the most so far in order to unlock the shotguns i had found (which has been a blessing for doling out better damage).
You can choose male or female, hair style and color, skin color, tattoos and color for face and body, or none at all, but you cant change the face or body type of the character for either gender.
I have put 9 hours in, and find myself thoroughly enjoying the game. Im happybi bought it. Its $50 instead of $60. Probably should be $40, but im fine with it, as i said, im happy with my purchase.
I bought this day 1 along with Spiderman. Now im not going to tell you its better than Spiderman, because its not, but ive split my time with them evenly so far.
If you're a Souls fan, and looking for a fix, you might just be happy with this game. For people like us i find its a bit of a surprising gem. If you're the type who easily finds things to complain about in games, im not sure if its for you. This is only my third review on here ever, over the years, but i felt this game deserved a fair chance.

The more you advance in the game, the more you discover how many bugs it has and how unfair it can be. Die hard Souls fan here and I know how to differentiate difficulty and bad design. If you want to avoid being disappointed with another Souls wannabe (is this you Lords of The Fallen?) drop immediately all your hope to play a good Souls-like game.

Bought it on PS4 today and the game is interesting and really challenging. I have played it 8 hours now totally and really enjoying it. Its a game that needs to be played for a few hours to get it right. First hours was a bit weird but after the cool boss fights I can recommend it to my friends.

This game is horrendous, I love soulsborne games but this is a horrible way to try and cash in on it . I would go so far as to call plagiarism since so much is stolen directly from dark souls and dark souls 2. It should be illegal to sell this unstable piece of garbage. I have played early access games that are more stable. It's pathetic. Let's hope toadman will never make a game again. I don't care it's a 20 people team that developed the game. They developed a turd and try to charge you money for it. Get a job I say, a real job because game development isn't your cup of tea and it never will be. Expand

A dark souls with guns sounded like a good idea, but this is not how you do it.
It feels clunky to play, story is utter nonsense that tries to be way too clever for its own good, but keeps tripping over itself.

I've spent about 30 hours or so between two different characters and have enjoyed my time. Given that this game comes from a smaller developer, I can look past a lot of the minor shortcomings in the game. I certainly think the game has a lot of good things going for it (i.e. good level design, varied enemy and weapon types, challenging gameplay).

However, what is unacceptable to me, is how many times the game crashes. This needs to be fixed immediately and should have been addressed prior to release. I can't get through a 2 hour session now without it crashing at least once. The problem is, it doesn't automatically save your game as you progress from checkpoint to checkpoint unless you manually quit from the options menu. Now, I find myself having to do just that every so often in order to keep from losing all my progress. It's incredibly frustrating to lose 30,000 in bits and 30 minutes of my time, because the game decides to crash.

If it weren't for the crashing issue, I'd probably give the game a 7.5, whereas right now it's probably closer to a 6.5. It's unfortunate. It seems as though they rushed release and it resulted in a game brimming with potential, but too unpolished to be considered good.

March 2019 Update: The developers have now made many bug fixes, added a New Game +, added more weapons, balanced the weapons and stats, and added a new free DLC called "Mask of Pain". Given these improvements, I've increased my rating to 8.0. If you are an action RPG fan, give this game a shot.

Difficulty... very! I’ve hit a few ‘walls’ during my play through and I’d imagine that this has a lot to do with the low review scores. Thing is though, it brought me the closest I’ve been to the way I felt playing Demons Souls all those years ago. Reaching the next obelisk (bonfire/arch stone) with only a sliver of health, no healing items a little else left in my inventory. There are some tense times when you take the next corner hoping it’s a checkpoint and not an enemy with those scan5 resources remaining.

    Great game.

Although I’m a huge fan of shooters, I had to force myself to play Immortal: Unchained. The game clumsily tries to marry two formulas: an action game built around firearms and a soulslike. It does some things right – the atmosphere is intriguing, the dismemberment system works fine, boss encounters are done well and the character development system is solid – but it failed in the most important aspect. Immortal’s cardinal sin is its mediocre gunplay, which makes shooting boring and therefore turns firefights into drudgery. [12/2018, p.54]

Immortal: Unchained is a souls like third person shooter game developed and published by Toadman Interactive. The idea of a souls like with guns is amazing, but the way it is developed, it looks like a set of beautiful non-original ideas stuck together.
