Hyper Scape is a good battle royale with solid and substantial differences from its competitors. Ubisoft’s project has interesting gameplay and deserves a chance.

The new Hyper Scape from Ubisoft is a decent battle royale that offers some good ideas, but has to deal with too many problems.

Pleasant to play and easy to handle, it offers pleasant confrontations, but which struggle to provide the thrill of survival.

Hyper Scape is a polished and pretty battle royale, but it is also bland and generic from start to finish. In a market already saturated by free to play shooters to try, Hyper Scape should be an afterthought. It doesn't have the confidence or the personality of its competitors, and it's come onto the scene far too late. There's a lot to like about Hyper Scape, but you probably won't find yourself playing it for long.

Hyper Scape has promise, but it’s just so infuriating to play due to poor aiming controls. Some don’t seem to have a problem with it, as I see other PS4 players racking up kills all the time. Still, it’s better to wait and play something else until this gets fixed.

Whilst Hyper Scape has some interesting ideas that make for fun and thrilling gameplay scenarios, the game does very little to stand out amongst its competitors. Although it is lacking in personality and lore, future updates could allow Hyper Scape to carve out an identity of its own. However, currently, it will do little to pull you away from your preferred battle royale game, and if you're not a fan of the genre, it won't make you a believer.

I was initially excited for Hyper Scape thanks to its sleek style and movement. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t do much to stand out from other offerings on the market. Hopefully Ubisoft will find some way to inject more personality and consistency into this online shooter.

There's a massive amount of work to be done here before I’d ever consider Hyper Scape a go-to over other options in the space.

Awful aiming. Small hitboxes. Double jumping. Barely any aim assist. Very high health pools. All these combine to create really boringAwful aiming. Small hitboxes. Double jumping. Barely any aim assist. Very high health pools. All these combine to create really boring gunfights that last forever. Overall the game feels like more boring copy of Realm Royale, an already bad game. I’ll stick to Apex. Full Review »

Ubisoft tried to make a battle royale game which could compete with modern day battle royale games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone. AUbisoft tried to make a battle royale game which could compete with modern day battle royale games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone. A nice attempt though the power-ups, weapon fusing system and unique world feel more like a gimmick then something unique.

The game overall runs very smoothly but doesn't really do anything other (or better) than all Battle Royale games already on the market. It's go in, get kills, survive till the end en hooray, you win, the same principle as every battle royale game basically. You'll have a variety of weapons at your disposal but some weapons feel insanely overpowered while others feel like they shoot whipped cream at your opponent, they do absolutely nothing. It's a matter of aim and how good you are in doing that but snipers are pretty useless in this game since everybody jumps around like the ground is lava. You'll need to be very lucky in order to even hit an opponent, let alone he doesn't turn around and hunts you down with one of the many overpowered weapons in the game.
The power-ups you can find throughout the map have the same exact problem as the weapons, some feel overpowered and overused while other hardly do any damage or seem to work.

For example, there's a power-up where you get into a ball and are able to jump around being immune to any sort of damage, one of the most overused power-ups in the game at the moment. While power-ups like invisibility hardly do anything because as soon as you get hit while invisible your power-up is gone and you have to wait for it to recharge (that is if you make it out of a gunfight alive). The ground slam, where you get launched into the air and slam the ground dealing damage, hardly does any damage and since 9 out of 10 players jump around all the time it's extremely hard to even hit someone with this.

The feature where you can fuse weapons when you find duplicates is truly unique and a good thing at first, but it hardly does anything. You'll need to max out your weapon (find 4 duplicates of the same weapon) in order to even feel/ see the difference. Considering you're dropping in a zone with more players it's very unlikely you'll ever find 4 duplicates before entering the endgame (or dying).

The gunfights in this game are just bad. They take extremely long, 9 out of 10 times you will lose sight of who you're shooting at, mainly because everyone smapns the jump button (if you dno't, you die instantly) and the hitboxes are extremely small.

And lastly, the battle pass system is fine at first sight. Until you dicover the free track has Prime stuff in it. If you're unfamiliar what that is, it's basically stuff you'll only be able to get if you're a Twitch Prime member (which is a paid subsrciption). If you're like me and you do not want to pay for a battle pass (yet) you're not getting much from the free track other than some points and emblems. A really stupid move from Ubisoft in my opinion.

Verdict: Hyper Scape is not a game that can't remotely compete with battle royale games like Fortnite or Call of Duty Warzone (and I don't play any of these, so I'm not fanboying or anything). As said in the beginning the features Hyper Scape has to make it unique feel more like a gimmick then an actual innovating experience. The game suffers from an extreme paywall in the battle pass (talking about the prime feature, not the paid track since every game nowadays has a battle pass) and cosmetics in the in-game store are very expensive.

Overall, in my opinion, this game is not worth your time when there are Battle Royale games out there that do it so much better.
