Hitman is unquestionably the finest game in the series. It might be one of the best stealth games ever made.

Although the road may have been initially bumpy, we've been won over by IO Interactive determination and conviction. They've managed to prove to the rest of the industry that AAA games done episodically can work, and can work incredibly well.

Hitman - The Complete First Season revitalizes the franchise in new smart ways thanks to an impressive package with a ton of content.

With the exception of a late episode misstep, Hitman: The Complete First Season is a perfectly designed showcase for the skills of Agent 47, as well as an excellent demonstration of the benefits of an episodic release structure.

IO Interactive's new, episodic Hitman is a triumph. The developer knew how to revive its ailing series and did so with aplomb, crafting a robust set of core mechanics and designing superb levels around them. Reminiscent of everything Blood Money did so well, from its focus on gameplay over story to its cold, sardonic presentation and dark sense of humour, this is Hitman as it is and always should be.

Hitman's developed better than expected - but the onus is now on IO to keep adding content throughout the next year. [Issue#130, p.93]

It's the game's flexibility that drives its enduring appeal, complemented by its granular UI and difficulty settings that enable you to make it as easy or as hard as you like - whether through developer-prescribed challenges or personal rules imposed as a matter of pride - without ever adjusting a slider. Hitman’s first season is a full-blown triumph. IO Interactive has masterfully pulled off this gamble with relatively few hiccups along the way. The world of assassination has never been a finer place to visit than it is right now.

Season 1 delivered near flawlessly. IO Interactive has built a framework that they can keep building on for years to come here, and we can’t wait to dive back into more missions in season 2.

Agent 47 is back and better than ever. The first season of Hitman has produced the definitive Agent 47 experience in a world of intrigue, espionage and murder. Not only the best Hitman game ever made, but also one of the top contenders for game of the year.

Finally. After a long wait, we have Hitman: The Complete First Season, game that groups all the new adventures of the Agent 47. Great game mechanics, terrific level design and outstanding art direction, makes this game a must have to everyone.

All in all, Hitman is exactly what a Hitman game should be. It's not long in the traditional sense, but it's dense and packed with content. The mechanics are a little rough or hand-holdy at times, but that's a minor problem in the overall scheme of things. Whether it's a brutal, close-range assassination or a subtle poisoning, Hitman gives you more options than you know what to do with.

The new Hitman is excellent: the levels are designed well and offer a great environment to plan the perfect murder time and time again. The loading times are a letdown, but the excitement is greater than that.

The first season of Hitman has become a rather stuffed one, but in a good way. With all the content put together, you get a game that is filled with diverse locations, and plenty to do. With only some minor flaws, Hitman is a must-have within the genre.

If you played it as each episode came out, or binge-played it all at once, something is lost each way from Hitman – Season 1, but not enough to detract from what is as a whole one of the most enjoyable and entertaining Hitman experiences we’ve ever had.

Finally the chapter concept hasn't done any harm to the new HITMAN. It's the opposite in fact as every level has been meticulously done and the global feeling is that quality is here. If you're a fan don't wait any longer and go for the full season.

Hitman: The Complete First Season is the perfect re-introduction to the third-person stealth franchise, bringing back sandbox game design and player choice to the forefront with six expertly hand-crafted missions with hundreds of opportunities and ways to approach killing targets, and a ton of side content in the form of Escalation contracts and the Sarajevo Six (effectively “What If?” scenarios and missions).

You will definitely get your money’s worth if you're a fan of stealth strategy games and want a game that you can replay over and over. If your not into this type of genre Hitman doesn’t do anything that will make you a fan. It’s a very rewarding game and one of the best from the series.

I wasn't disappointed by this latest installment in the Hitman franchise. Its awesome graphics, varied gameplay, and tons of content will impress. However, the terrible (and sometimes offensive) writing, confusing menus, and inconsistent AI took me out of the experience enough to warrant a less than stellar score than it would otherwise deserve.

The Complete First Season of Hitman pays attention to detail, offering great variety and huge re-playability in the process. Despite a few dips in the level design and atrocious voice acting, this is a stealth experience to die for.

The first season offers a classic but at the same time new take on the Hitman experience. It asks for every mission to be replayed and rediscovered, and we've enjoyed it thanks to its diversity and possibilities.

Hitman: The Complete First Season is an experiment gone right. How convenient, then, that IO's triumphant return is also all about experimentation. The canvasses and settings that Hitman provides allows for all kinds of hits, from the wacky to the professional – and the sheer amount of equipment at your disposal only furthers the possibilities. While lacking in story, Hitman has a glorious future ahead of itself – providing the inevitable Season 2 is as good as the first, of course.

A successful resurrection of Hitman. Deft systems design and great levels, slightly let down by production issues and online restrictions.

With massive levels, a multitude of challenges, targets, and assassination techniques, Hitman is IO's most ambitious game in the series. Stealth, action, brutality, hilarity, Hitman debuts impressively in its first season.

Delayed gratification from the episodic release schedule or not, this 2016 take on Hitman is a brilliant game. Expansive level design and nearly unlimited replay value courtesy of so many routes to your assassinations (and so many methods with which to carry them out) make the experience almost completely different each and every time you play. Yes, Agent 47 took his time getting here, but it was time well spent.

Following a short hiatus, we’ll no doubt see a second season of missions crop up, and this excites me. Hitman may have its shortcomings, but with a few smart revisions this could easily become one of the best game series to appear on current consoles.

It might be asking for a lot of faith from gamers without a decent story tying it all together, but the good news is Season One adds up as one of the better Hitman titles in recent years. Episode two, set in Sapienza, was particularly enjoyable and there is a lot of replayable content as you try and unlock different assassination methods or uncover secret collectibles. However I wouldn’t be surprised that playing through all six chapters in one sitting loses it’s impact somewhat.

The experiment that is episode based first season of Hitman is both a success and a failure. 6 new maps and 6 new missions are mostly great - that's the most important core of the game that works well. What doesn't work is the story. It's not that interesting and there's too little of it. The question is - what is the most important thing to you?

Hitman is not what we would expect, neither visually nor in the chosen episodic format. However, it is what we would like to see when it comes to gameplay mechanics, taking a step back from that action-oriented path that Absolution had taken. A little more effort, regardless of it is an episodic entry or not, will make Hitman's next game what we really want to see from the franchise in this generation.

This whole season proves that 47 can still pleases fans of stealth-based games. Clever ideas and well-crafted environments with, sometimes, a lot of characters on screen make the new Hitman a true heir to Blood Money, even if A.I. and story could be more efficient.

Agent 47’s ultimate skill has always been patience, and the newest Hitman demands the same from the player more than ever before. Some may enjoy devoting hours to planning and pulling off the perfect hit, but the supersized levels have made 47’s latest adventure an overly drawn-out affair, above and beyond the initial episodic release schedule.

If this Hitman has a design limitation, it's that maps don't evolve as much in response to assassinations as they could - it strains credibility that you can bump off three of four targets in Colorado without plunging the fourth into a panic. That aside, this is among the most expertly-made, engrossing stealth simulations of recent years, and a tale of A-listers meeting their comeuppance to give any Fortune 500 member the shivers. Agent 47 is back with a vengeance, and vengeance has seldom tasted sweeter. [Recommended]

While I can get some of the anger because of the episodic style of release I fell as if this payed off as this has made for one of the best stealth games in recent memory as there is show much packed into it despite it only being the first season of this game with the big open levels and the fact that you can do it in which ever way you like makes it on of the most replayable games I have touched this generation and the presentation is very well done with episode 2 being one of the best missions I have played in a game. If you love stealth and action games you need to at least give this a chance. Full Review »

The locations are both some of the most beautiful I have seen and some of them have such great design to pull off each assassination in the way you desire. The choices you are given to preform the assassinations you want make this one of the most replayable games I have ever touched and it also made for some of the funniest moments I have experienced when you see all the bizzarethings you can get away with in the missions. I can keep phrasing this game but we be hear for hours so to close I think you need to buy this game if you are a fan of both stealth games and games that let you choose how to reach the objective and with all episode of season one out now there is not a better time to go pick this gem up especially with the announcement that a season 2 is being worked on. - Gameplay
    - A.I is nuts (The best I've seen in a game, especially professional mode)
    - Tons of possibilities
    - Graphics/level design

    Bad/Worst
    - Load times (It's a little worse now , but at the launch it was terrible - still long though)
    - Some items like the last sniper are unlocked too late in the game, which compromises the fun of using them (since you are practically completing the entire game when you unlocked it)
    - Episodes? Please not this crap again
