PLAYFeb 23, 2022Mechanically engaging, and with stylish visuals and a catchy soundtrack, Hermitage: Strange Case Files is an enjoyable dose of mystery that’ll appeal if you’re looking for a visual novel with a little extra. [Issue#9, p.86]

Oct 26, 2021Regardless of if this is an issue with the localization process itself or existed in the original Chinese version of the game as well, it’s undeniable that there should have been a more robust editing and quality assurance process involved in such a text-heavy game. No matter how enticing and detailed Hermitage: Strange Case Files‘ story and world-building may be, it’s pointless if players lose interest before they get to the juiciest parts.

Nov 1, 2021Pacing issues aside, Hermitage: Strange Case Files gets a few things right. The writing keeps things largely focused and the chapters feel tight enough to enjoy on their own. I did feel the logic for the some of the investigations felt slightly misplaced and the potential to miss clues sets you on course for failure. It's all presented very well but I did feel a lack of something to do when the script became especially verbose.
