This game has a great vibe, a distinctive artistic direction, variety in environments through out the game, great voice acting and an story that lures you around the next corner. I feelt genuiely afraid and some of the content was quite disturbing. The game has a couple of very strong scenes that shows just how VR can make a really good impression.
On the cons, this game is very short (but it is only like 20USD so I guess its expected) and offers no really interesting interaction with the game world. Despite that, this game offers much more value than what a full priced eve: valkyire manages to do. A must buy if you got PSVR early. So far, only london heists tops this game.

So I know next to nothing about horror games next to Bioshock. On a VR level this hit all the right spots for me...granted I needed to work though this in fits and spurts (because I'm kinda chicken). But nonetheless I absolutely loved the atmosphere and narrative. Fun experience for twenty bucks.

I should mention I don't get motion sickness from VR at all. So there's that.

I am giving this a 10 for the simple fact, that it does what it is supposed to do....it scares the crap out of you. it is not an action game or anything of the sort, you are simply walking through, finding some clues/notes here and there, but holy crap there are some really scary moments.

Since most of the games for the Vr at the moment offer less then 1h of gameplay you would like to spend your money on something with depth.

Here They Lie has that. It has the depth of a game that offers a great perspective as to what a horror game in this new technology will look like. The atmosphere is terrifying from the moment you step on the train.
The world seems large and emerging.
One downside of the game is the lack of interactivity- you seem more of a visitor into a world of someone else is imagining. Even though, along the way, there will be choices for you to make that might or not effect the gameplay.

With that being said, I believe it is one of the best games out there at the moment for the VR, worth every penny.

This game will bring on those sweats that you dread, however this can be over come by walking in straight lines and using the quarter turn function rather than your head motion where possible and building up on your sessions. That is true for most VR games I'm finding (except drive club) so bare with it, build on it and enjoy the twisted world that's on offer. Expand

While the graphics are low rez in VR this kinda lends itself to the atmosphere in a weird kind of way.. meaning that you can't quite make out what that 'thing' is moving in the distance and that makes you feel more uncomfortable.

The game drips atmosphere from the get go, the greyscale pallet topped with occasional blossoms of colour works really well in VR. The sound engineers must be proud of themselves, hearing the flapping of cloth over your shoulder and not knowing if it's a creature is just as terrifying as seeing the creatures in front of you.

The levels range from terrifying to weird to outright surreal madness.

I personally never had any VR sickness with HTL but I understand it's different for everyone, I can't handle EVE for example but plenty of people are fine with that.
I think it may be to do with turning your head as you move forward, to combat this just stop and look around, you'll find any discomfort is lessened.
And don't use the run button until you're comfortable moving around in this world.

Imho this game on PSVR is a piece of art comparable to a David Lynch movie. It’s creepy, surreal, disturbing and scary and has amazing art direction. The sound is top notch in 3D and will keep you on your seat. It’s a relatively short game but well worth the price. I got it for free on PS+ and I feel kinda cheap for not paying for it.

One of the most memorable VR/gaming experiences of my life. Highly recommended if you own a PSVR!

P.S. the game is playable without VR after an update but loses a lot of the immersion, which is the main point of the game.

Ok. So first, i tried in VR and it was ok. It hurt my eyes though. Didnt make me sick like it did some. I suggest not playing in VR, just running through, dont worry about dying, itll start you just past that point... other than that it was a visually disturbing rollercoaster for sure. If you like insane messed up games like layers of fear, observer, soma, evil dead 2... try it out. ButOk. So first, i tried in VR and it was ok. It hurt my eyes though. An expensive 3 hours of linear so called horror, garbled story line, and a total disappointment to boot.
Add motion sickness and unavoidable deaths to the list above and you define Here They Lie.

While I would image inhabiting an Eraserhead style world in VR would be a particularly unpleasant experience for most, there is actually enough on offer here to warrant a recommendation for those more meat-and-potatoes, games-to-be-games types. Some set-pieces are particularly memorable and do a great job of taking advantage of the spectacle and scale that can only really be affording with VR.

As many others have commented on, the game seems to be hit-and-miss with regards to VR sickness. I think this may be in large part due to the early release of the game in the PSVR lifecycle, as many people I know who have played the game more recently (having more VR experience) seem to not experience anything like the same level of discomfort that early reviewers reported.

I had a good time with the game and will admit that I got scared and it's really good at that, In the beginning. As you play through the game at least I think it got just a bit boring nearing the end and it wasn't scary anymore. But apart from that I think it's a great game with a good story.

Here I am, after almost 3 years of waiting, I've finally played Here They Lie as the developers wanted it, with a VR headset.

I had tremendous expectations with this title. The trailers looked amazing and intriguing, they were strange in every possible way and they reminded me David Lynch's filmography, which is nice if you're looking for a very special/cloudy kind of experience.
The first contact was REALLY intense and I had to take off the headset because I got scared by a simple trick of shadows, creepy sounds and inmersion.
Then, I decided to jump back in again and I started to experience what everyone fears with virtual reality, motion sickness. I wasn't dizzy, neither did I get some headache, it was some sort of... discomfort in some sections of my body and, particularly with some movements, in the right side of my head. I stopped and I started to think, OK, maybe this is too much for my first true, "complete experience" in VR, so I switched to other games and continued to try out the game from 10 to 25 minutes. Honestly? I'm glad that I did.
This is probably one of the best games I've EVER played in my life. It may not have the gameplay that you get with other titles, but the experience is so profound that I can't really count the title as just "a videogame" as other may be inclined to say, this is beyond experiences and storytelling in games.
This is, truly, a heartbraking piece of poetry about the world and the decisions we can take and the terrible consequences of those moments in our life, tenderly screaming at our subconciuous with a STOP DOING that or you will end up destroyed.
Technically is amazing. The sound is absolutely incredible. The graphics are really good even with the ocasional low res texture and the gameplay, while simple, is effective.
You're there for the experience, and to experience it as intended YOU NEED VR, "sadly". I say this because some people may think that having the option to play it in 2D will do it, or maybe buying a Playstation VR headset is not something some people wanted, but trust me. You'll thank me.
Slowly turning in a empty street because you're scared, sorrounded and in complete awe to this world is something I experience just a few times in my life, and Here They Lie has done that to me, as a gamer and as a human being receiving a piece of art directly into my eyes. But not only that, I have experienced something that left me thinking about everything.
You're there because the developer wanted to say something to you.
If you're open enough to just listen, and, with a really bad feeling while playing, not physically but emotionally, you're up to one the best games in the last decade. Yes, is that good.
As with many other titles, you need to give it some time. Again, if you are open enough, you'll receive not only an incredible experience but also, one of those gems that are hidden right in front of you.
This is the type of games I want to keep playing on VR. This is the type of games that push the medium forward, and we really need those.

Here They Lie seems like a game made for a very specific type of player who values experience over challenge or even clarity, and thus will leave many gamers cold and nonplussed at its exotic design decisions.

As a PSVR launch title from a new development studio, Here They Lie impressed me. Tangentlemen have good ideas, atmosphere and sound design, but ultimately the meandering pacing and sporadic story beats of their work left me feeling more disappointed than scared. I’ll be keeping my eyes on these developers, though — if this is what they deliver for their debut game, I’m eager to see what they serve up next.

There are wonderfully horrifying moments and some lovely little details, but they’re too few and far between – and getting to them is an exercise in resilience rather than pleasure. [January 2016, p77]
