I really loved the level design and how the game keeps pushing you forward and the pace moves at a brisk pace despite not telling you where to go. I especially loved the narrow and twisty passageways that would snake throughout the world. And how you can look up and feel how closed in you are by seeing the buildings towering above you on both sides. I didn't really have any issues with the enemies. And thought they were a good addition to the game. They presented a subtle fear of getting caught and creepiness without getting really annoying. The only major issue I had was the nausea the game gives you when moving around. This really hurts the game because its hard to explore the game as much as you might want to and also hurts the enjoyment of the game. Expand

After playing resident evil 7 and tomb raider in VR mode, HTL is a real deception. Poor graphics with bad textures and water effects, bad level design and some motion sickness. Of course, as a VR game has some scary moments but it´s not enough.

After 10 minutes of play is cause massive motion sickness for hours...
Otherwise it would not be bad game, the story is interesting... But don't buy, until patch.

Free on PSN August 2018 and playable non VR the game has some scary moments but awfully short. Story tackles relationship issues along side split personality and other mental deficiencies but its clear the aim was to focus on the VR side and leave all other aspects at average at best.

Here They Lie is as much a walking simulator as it is a horror game and features very little in the way of traditional gameplay. Much of the 3-4 hour runtime is spent following a fairly linear path with a variety with prompts, including answering mysterious ringing phones, allowing progress.

This all leads to some rather dull sections, particularly early on in the game, but the deeply unsettling world created by the developers is effective at creating a sense of fear (this is multiplied in VR) and kept me playing through to the conclusion, although I still have no real idea what was actually going on...

This is weird game. to be honest I do not really know what to think about it. on one hand the game is creepy and there are cool scary moments in the game but on the other story is strange and VR graphics should be more polished on PS4 Pro. if own PSVR and like scary games then check out this title. Otherwise i would not bother with it.

    Here They Lie
    A creepy surprise
Here They Lie is a first person walking simulato horror game.. This game initially came out in 2016, and when it was initially released I didn’t remember hearing much good about it.. ontop of that sony did a horrible job at messagine exactly what this game was.. Selling it as if it a ps vr only game…. And I found out after downloading this game for free

This game initially came out in 2016, and when it was initially released I didn’t remember hearing much good about it.. ontop of that sony did a horrible job at messagine exactly what this game was..
Selling it as if it a ps vr only game…. And I found out after downloading this game for free with this months playstation plus that this isn’t the case… you can play Here they lie both with or without playstation vr…
I went in with very low hopes and expectations
And this 2 and a half hour horror experience blew me away..
at least compared to what I was expecting..
Here you play as a man whos made a mistake and lost his love… she haunts you like a ghost as you journey through this lonely feeling but at the same time lively creepy world…
you feel uneasy throughout, this is only increased by the furry red light district you find yourself in towards the middle of the game..
this is a lot of just figurignout where youre supposed to be going, making choices…finding pictures to listen to dialog, strange notes that still have me confused.. all leading up to a choice at the end that I wont spoil…
but im so happy I went back to give this game a chance..
Theres not much here ggameplay wise.. you have a flashlight.. there are these skull headed demon creatures crawling around that you have to avoid…
but even they hardly offer elements of gameplay.. dying by them will just take you to the nearest door to come out of and whatever it was that killed you is dead.. this isn’t a critique.. I actually sortve enjoyed how the game doesn’t force you to repeat moments you fail… the game just goes on…
this is such an unsettling experience.. I could only imagine what its like to play through in vr..
if youre a horror fan in anyway pick this one up… right now you have even more reason to…its free
    I give Here They Lie a 6.5/10

Meh. Way too little character development, so couldn't care less for any of the characters, but good aesthetics and atmosphere. Decent VR title.

It doesn't seem like much to me, it doesn't even scare me and it's more tedious at times, and the ending, wow wow.

Here They Lie seems like a game made for a very specific type of player who values experience over challenge or even clarity, and thus will leave many gamers cold and nonplussed at its exotic design decisions.

As a PSVR launch title from a new development studio, Here They Lie impressed me. Tangentlemen have good ideas, atmosphere and sound design, but ultimately the meandering pacing and sporadic story beats of their work left me feeling more disappointed than scared. I’ll be keeping my eyes on these developers, though — if this is what they deliver for their debut game, I’m eager to see what they serve up next.

There are wonderfully horrifying moments and some lovely little details, but they’re too few and far between – and getting to them is an exercise in resilience rather than pleasure. [January 2016, p77]
