Fun array of weapons, rifles, magic - with co-op, pvp, and split-screen offering lots of replayability. For the price, I thought it was a great length - and when I revisisted maps with co-op, every time I found new areas. The art design is wonderfully surreal, though admittedly the grand scale is off-set with more basic textures (but I'd much rather have sprawling intense maps rather than small, hi-res detailed railroads). It feels a bit like System Shock 2 meets Demon Souls.

Other reviews complain of bugs - most are fixed as of late August. Others complain about the story, or the typical Souls-like ambiguity of a story; there is a story, absolutely, pieced together via NPCs and "data" found throughout - where, as you can guess- something terribly wrong befell a space station. But like all Souls-likes, the story is in the experience - the dread and suspense of navigating terror-mazes, following in the wake of demonic forces, becoming a demonic force yourself. One of my top 2020 GOTY.

After 20+ hours in the world of Hellpoint I can say this is the first Soulsborne in a while that has really captured the essence of the genre like Dark Souls 1 did. There are some performance and framerate issues but there is nothing I ran across that was gamebreaking. Definitely recommend this one to the Soulsborne enthusiasts out there!

One of the Highlights in 2020. A "must have" for all Dark Souls and Bloodborne Player!

This game is criminally underrated. The dead space meets dark souls vibe is fantastic. A must play for fans of dark souls and the surge. The game is filled with secrets, with exploration really being a hugely important part of the game. I have encountered a few bugs, but nowhere near what others have been saying. The game might not have triple A studio graphics, but gameplay wise I've really been enjoying it. I'd probably give this game a 7, or maybe an 8 based on how many hours I've sunk in, but I'm adding some points to balance the overly harsh reviews. This looks like it's from a small indie studio, and what a great effort from a small team! All I can say is give us more cosmic horror dark souls! Expand

After 20 hours in the game I can safely say, I enjoy it. The level design is great (shortcuts, branching paths, secrets all over the place), which allows for a lot of rewarding exploration. The story takes a backseat to the gameplay, which is exactly how I like my games. If the gameplay is good, that's all that matters and that definitely has held true for me in Hellpoint.

The game is from an indie developer, so there are a few technical issues at launch. However, I have not experienced any game breaking bugs up to this point. Based on comments I've seen from the developer on their Discord channel, they plan to continue supporting/updating this game as needed.

Ultimately, if you like hardcore action-RPGs (souls-likes), you should at least give this one a shot. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised like I did.

Freaking. AWESOME. Once it was fully patched, I just... honestly do not understand the rating. It's gorgeous, takes chances to do new things, plays great, has an interesting story, and it has a good loop. Plus it's both scifi and has the Souls horror vibe, which most scifi Souls games dont even attempt for some reason. I have it on three platforms.

There is a nice incremental reveal of background story and plot as you progress through the game. A fair number of weapons and builds / playstiles are available to suit different styles and tastes, while at the same time a certain simplicity to the crafting and upgrading system is retained which makes the game pleasantly accessible. I am really enjoying the atmosphere of dread while exploring the game´s world, which has a large and expansive feel to it despite playing on a space station. Coop multplayer is running smoothly in my experience so far and I haven´t encountered any glitches. Terrific art and soundtrack. This is excellent value for money, much more so than I was expecting when I purchased the game, so congrats to the developers for having made such an outstanding production as a low-budget set-up.
Watch the movie Event Horizon if you want to double up on the demonic horror vibes!

Good narrative, good visuals, there is not a single soulslike that plays better with overwhelmingly dark environments: a deep and total darkness in most cases that forces you to depend on a flashlight whose energy is gradually depleted achieving a degree of tension that does not have you experienced in any other soulslike.

The gameplay is fluid and the map as a whole is a complex and well-executed level design, with a very important factor of verticality, where all instances connect to each other through secret paths clearly reminiscent of metroid fusion (for which there is obvious inspiration). These people know what they are doing.

There are minor bugs similar to those found in the first Dark Souls but it is not something that affects the gaming experience. What does really affect negatively is the constant presence of 25 seconds loading screens, and this is the reason why I cannot rate it with a 10.

However it is an indispensable game for anyone who enjoys this genre and it is a pity that it does not enjoy more media visibility.

The game is a nice nod to the original souls and has loads of content with great exploration and atmosphere. Still a little unpolished but it has in no way taken away from the enjoyment and plays great for local co-op.

First and foremost I need to say this game has lots of very good things and lots of bad things. Technically speaking, it's very flawed. Artistically and gameplay-wise is very enjoyable.

Best things: level design has really high peaks, also thanks to the mobility of the game (jump, long jump, you can climb on ladders WHILE mid-air) you kinda make parkour and find LOTS of hidden things, every weapon has its own passive and active skills to unlock, the hell hour and the hole hour are a really cool feature.

Ok things: Gears variety is not huge but does its work, (there's no need for 10 different axes and straightswords when they all have the same moveset), that's why they're less than you would want. Plus, you can enhance their scalings like you want, which gives great versatility. Ranged weapons are ok, nothing special but you can build your character on them, combat can make you feel powerful but it's not High-Budget physics and feedback.

Things to improve: quality of life, enemy AI (which, let's be honest, is an hard thing and almost all games have **** enemy AI), and they need some more in-game information and explanation.

Really bad stuff: the game is not smooth in combat, some animations don't work sometimes, texts is sometimes very little and sometimes big, and the lack of direction (NOTE: it is an intended feature, for clear in-game purposes) makes you play almost all the game without even realising you're at the end of the journey,.

Recommended? Yes. But remember they didn't have money to have photograph realism and probably not enough testers to realise they needed a "sort" button in the inventory screens.

Beware the cosmic gods, they even have questlines

It’s great to see new takes on the Souls formula, but they need to have something special if they want to find their place in a market that’s becoming more and more saturated. Hellpoint has a solid foundation and good ideas, but that’s about it.

Hellpoint borrows the elements found in Fromsoft titles that make a compelling action RPG game but ultimately stumbles due to technical issues and an overall lack of polish.

Hellpoint is absolutely a game to try out if you’re a fan of the Souls-like genre and especially Bloodborne. Its stunning aesthetic alone should grab your interest. However, the game unfortunately falls short of being truly amazing due to several unpolished elements.
