Intriguing game dealt a bad blow by underwhelming action gameplay.

A great idea with some annoying issues in terms of execution.

Unfortunately, this version is inexplicably and inexcusably broken, prone to game-ruining bugs and frequent crashes. If all you have is a PS4, then I’m sad to say you should give Hand of Fate a pass.

Hand of Fate comes so close to being something really special – an unexpected concoction of genres and ideas that meshes together superbly to create a really fun experience that's both involving and rewarding, at least in short bursts. But, unfortunately, its potential is cut short by a lack of options and awkward third-person game segments that should really know better.

You make choices in regards to encounter cards that pop up over the course of a campaign. Results can range from simply getting better supplies, curses or blessings, having to play a shuffle card game, or going to combat with enemies in the style of a less-sophisticated Arkham/Shadow of Mordor system.

If you ever played Arkham Horror, DnD or a similar board game and wanted to actually fight rather than roll dice, this game may be for you.

    Pros:
    - Phenomenal voice acting
    - really unique and good looking art style
    - fun story telling and encounters
    - well balanced, can become a stiff challenge
    - story and endless mode

    Cons:
    - combat merely gets the job done
    - bad load times
    - slow down

It's quite original. While the first hour i wasn't really impressed and everything felt too simplistic, the game started opening up after that. Combat still is simplistic, but it's fun enough and can be challenging. RNG is a big factor in this game, but (for me) that makes it all the more exciting and it fits well in this game. I really like it. I'm hoping in the future they can add some other game mechanics and lots of new cards. I really hope it sells well so we can see an expansion or a sequel. Lots of potential! It's not perfect... there are some bugs here and there, but havent encountered many at all. also, there's a little screen tearing here and there, and during combat with lots of enemies you can get some hickups and lose a bit of framerate. But overall, a very fresh, fun and engaging game. Hadn't heard about it at all before i saw it on steam last week (but i do own the PS4 version) Usually i don't like to buy games so impulsive, but i'm glad i did. Full Review »
