If you've played the Vita version, you know exactly what you're getting into. To this day, Gravity Rush is still my favorite PS Vita game. Included in the Remastered version is all the DLC from the original, along with the obvious resolution/framerate/etc boost. It looks better, runs better, and feels better.
Patiently waiting for Gravity Rush 2.

I guess those who enjoy awesome graphics might feel a bit disappointed, seeing that in terms of graphics, it is obvious the game is not a ps4 native. Said that, artistically speaking the game is fantastic, the design of both the areas and characters is great, although maybe could have been a bit better in terms of monsters, but still good. Story is decent, I would not say it is the strongest feature of the game but it is decent, my main criticism comes from the fact that the story poses a lot of questions but it doesn’t answer a lot, giving me a feeling that the story is left kind of unfinished. Good thing about this is that there is good foundations for an awesome story in gravity rush 2, a lot of mysteries will get solved I guess. Also, the main character is a bit too naive and light hearted maybe for my liking, but again, I guess it makes sense considering the game is about her not remembering anything about her past (not a spoiler really, because you learn about this in like the first minute of the game). Finally, I’d say the gameplay is the real strong point of this game, it is really fun to play and the gravity powers are awesome to play with. It gives you a freedom to explore the areas that is not very usual in this kind of games. Combat is smooth and works well and it is fast paced, I’d just summarise it by saying it is really nice and fun to play. You’ll need a bit of time to get used to the powers but once you do, you’ll realise the controls are really good and that makes you feel you’re in real control of the character.

Summarising guys, this game is quite good. I’d call it a “decaf” sandbox as there aren’t as many things to do and the map is kind of small compared to other games. That is not necessarily bad, as in my case, after playing MGSV, I wanted something a bit less massive but it might be a let-down for some people. Just to give you an idea, you can probably get platinum (easy one) in 25 hours or so. Still I think it is a really good game for a really good price, really good fun and lets you wanting for more. If you like this kind of game I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I've played so many games now that I often feel like its hard to find really the unique experiences. Gravity Rush has completely caught me off guard. This is an incredibly fresh and rewarding game. It has everything going for it; from the thrilling gameplay, to the stylish anime art, and an engaging story-line.

The wonderfully stylish art and the fairly lighthearted story mesh together very well. The world has a crisp anime look and takes inspiration from French art works. You experience the world through Kat. Kat wakes with amnesia but quickly finds she can manipulate gravity thanks to her mysterious cat Dusty. You find yourself in a floating city that is struggling to fend off an infestation of these monsters called Nevi. You quickly run into an officer named Syd who recruits you to help protect the city. Along you're journey you run into another shifter named Raven and its unclear a first what her intentions are but as you progress you'll find that she is in a difficult predicament.

The main aspect of this game that will suck you in and keep you coming back is the ability to control your own gravity. By just the press of a button Kat will start to float in the air. Then all you have to do is aim at where you want to go and press the same button to send Kat falling in that direction. It feels a lot like flying but its really more a change of perspective as you'll proceed to walk on walls and collect gems hanging beneath various structures. There are gems scattered all over the world and trying to find them all is incredibly addicting. You can use them to upgrade Kat's abilities such as increasing her ability to manipulate gravity or strengthen her combat powers.

The gameplay is divided between story missions, side quests, and challenges. All three will often be focused on combating the Nevi. You can use gravity to your advantage as you perform flying kicks and hurl objects by picking them up in a stasis fields. The challenges not only test you're combat prowess but test how well you can quickly manipulate your gravity for precision and speed in various time trials around the city. The side quests are mostly silly stories that require you to dress up in new outfits for tasks such as infiltrating a local gang or attempting to satisfy a grumpy house wife.

Everything about the game feels like it was crafted with a lot of passion by a team with a strong, united, vision. The gameplay and gravity manipulation feels absolutely amazing, there is nothing quite like it. The story has a lot of memorable characters that will have you smiling or gleefully scouring from the story's silly moments to the incredibly stubborn antagonists. Coming from someone that has played his fair share of games I must say Gravity Rush is a very unique experience and I couldn't be more happy I tried it. In my mind this is a must play for any one with a PS4 of Vita.

Gravity Rush was a great PS Vita launch game, and now it's been remastered on PS4.

It's an original IP by Sony's Japan Studio with a cute teenage heroine who can manipulate gravity at her will (well, actually her cat companion does that for her, but who cares?). The game is an open world with missions and side quests, set in a map consisting of 3 airborne "cities" connected with train rails while zeppelins roam free. The graphics are cel-shaded, and pretty nice. The story is good, too, and is presented as a comic book, with strips of frames which can be rotated a bit while tilting the Dualshock 4. Gameplay is robust but a bit constrained due to either a few strange design choices or the limitations of its original platform, the PS Vita. But the shifts of gravity are what will remain etched in your memory forever. You can freely reset the gravity at any point so that up is down, or left is down, and so on.

On PS4 the game has been remastered by specialists Bluepoint Studio and runs at 60 fps with 1080p resolution, while the Vita version run at 30 fps with a low resolution. It also contains the 3 DLCs in the package for free. Nice!

My score represents the game's originality and quality, despite some minor gripes of mine. Buy either the remaster on PS4 or the PS Vita version and you won't regret it. There is also a sequel on PS4. Let's hope this series continues even after Gravity Rush 2.

It's sad that one of the main exclusives of sony's handled is no exclusive anymore, but in the other hand this version plays better and also have all the dlc missions. I think is a bit expensive... 19.99 dls would be a better price IMO, nevertheless is a worth try.

To start, yes, the remaster could have been better, in terms of improving visual aesthetics. However, for anyone who has not played the original Vita version, this is a great buy. Solid 60 FPS makes the game combat much less tedious in terms of timing and learning enemy patterns, and the combat in general has been tweaked to better improve on the Vita's bothersome touchscreen combat. Angry Rant Incoming!!! (Do not read if you can't handle criticism)

I just finished Gravity Rush Remastered about 10 minutes ago, and was left in shock over how many features that are straight up missing, or just wasn't included due to corner cuts. For the record; I did not play the vita version. This is just me randomly buying the game on the Playstation Store, playing it all the way through, and then unleashing the frustration in this review over a "Remastered" game that quite frankly should have had more effort put into it. Yes, the Gravity feature is amazing! Yes, exploring an open world is fun to do at first. Yes, the platforming levels are exciting at times. But beyond that slice of pie is a raw hollowed out filling that might as well be taken back for a refund, especially at the $32 canadian pricetag. You can to do the math work to figure out how much money that is in your country if you're not from Canada. Either way, I feel like I was conned, and here's why...

Before I start bashing the game, here are a list of good things about it...

    - Interesting Story
    - Colourful Characters
    - Unique Gravity controls and concept (well maybe not, I haven't played many super hero games to know for sure)
    - The flight camera cooperates with the player reasonably well, and can easily be adjusted to the player's liking in the menu.
    - Multiple costumes to pick from.

Now for the rest, I made a list of all the bad things discovered within my first 5 minutes of playing. Here it is...

    - No English Dubs.
(Did you know that gaming companies have been hiring dub teams since the original playstation era? I'm sick and tired of playing foreign games that don't bother hiring english voice actors. When companies cut corners, it show's that they don't care about their product, and lack of english dubs is a pretty big oversight considering most of the sales, as well as Gravity Rush sales itself, come from america. Look it up. And no, French isn't a madeup language.)
    - Forced Tutorial.
(This is a terrible trend in today's gaming that makes gamers feel like idiots. Tutorials are great, but keep them in a different part of a menu! Do not shove them in a players face. I know how to f***in jump! Let me learn the controls on my own!
    - Rigid walking animations.
(If you can even call "jogging" a walking animation.)
    - No collision sound effects when you bump into people on the street.
    - Bumping into NPCs can bug them, causing them to awkwardly walk on the back of their heels.
    - No direction on how it wants to tell the story. It can't decide if it wants to use legit animations or storybook pages.
    - Hideous motion blur streetlights.
(This "Remastered" version didn't bother to fix up it's awful blur from streetlights... "Remastered" is the keyword.)

All of this found in 5 minutes!!! The open world idea was phrased in this review, but the reality is that Gravity Rush's world is completely barren. Even Grand Theft Auto III, a game that is more than a decade old, has more life & energy in it's civilians than the walking zombies you see in Gravity Rush. Gravity Rush tries to cover up this fact by spawning a lot of "precious gems" for you to collect during your free roaming, which are then used to power up your character. The power ups aren't necessary, just there. And once you tear off this mask, you begin to realize that the exploration in this game is utterly pointless, and you immediately go for the only thing that matters: which is the quests and time trials. This level of disappointment eventually transformed into pure unadulterated anger as I continued to uncover more questionable things that people in the User Score never stopped to think about. Here's the grocery list for all to see. Spoilers will be cut out for obvious reasons, but you can judge the rest...

    - Quest bugs can trigger, leading you in the wrong direction.
    - The Time Trials don't have a restart button. Made a mistake? Guess what! You have to quit the game and sit through 2 loading screens if you wanna try again! "Remastered" my ***!
    - Enemy variety is severely lacking. I can't say any more on the matter.
    - Only one boss battle is done decently, while the rest are....just boring, and predictable!
    - Copy/Pasted NPCs.
    - What's the point in interacting with a transportation vehicle if you can't even get in them!?! It doesn't even show a cutscene of the player riding it! >:(
    - Story quests constantly put you in your default attire, so you have to travel back home if you wanna put on your alternative costume again.
    - Terrible explosion effects.
    - Fetch quest spam!
    - The ending..... Are you serious!?! That's it???
    - Despite what you heard, the story can be completed in only 5 hours... ONLY 5 HOURS!?! The official world record is clocked in under 2 hours... Only 2 f***ing hours!?! Aughhh!!!!

The verdict is a 6 out of 10. I hated playing through this game because of all the missing elements and issues, but it's not a terrible game by all means. It's just wasted potential.

The game never felt too hard or too easy, which is a good thing. However, this is a highly technical game with a by-design learning curve. For example, if you stop too long to line up a target, you can be quickly overrun by a number of enemies during combat sections. In order to survive, you’ve got to keep flying and thinking on your toes. The graphics are superb, and the music is above average as well. - Style - we're all used to fancy cut scenes, so it's a bit of shock at first to see comic strips, but it makes sense and it's a great fit. Also the world and characters are cell shaded, so it all looks like an anime. The architecture has something from various European cities with slight variation between the 4 worlds.
    - Graphics - for a game remastered from Vita, it looks quite gorgeous. It's not up to par with games designed for PS4, but i feel they did a good job remastering whatever possible. I just with there was a bit of more color and more variation between the worlds.
Gameplay - that's the most unique thing about the game and the main selling point. Flying through the air, controlling gravity just feels awesome. The upgrade system makes sense and fully upgraded powers give you more freedom and power, so you will be driven to collect more gems. I have to admin i didn't invest in some upgrades as i never needed to.
Music - lovely music just adds to the whole atmosphere of the game
So what's bad? Some people might have difficulties with the camera and how the game controls. I got used to it pretty fast. The thing is that you are not flying in the game as it might seem, but you are falling all the time by controlling the gravity. So it looks uncontrolled and chaotic at first. For some the orientation on the battlefield might be cumbersome.
The story has it's strong points, but predictable to some degree and doesn't have a super satisfying ending. But hey, there's another game out already. This is again some point where some might like it and some not. If you like anime, you will love it.
If i consider the price/fun ratio, this is a solid 8/10. If this would be 50-60$ title, i would lower to 7/10. I'm approx. 3 hours into GR2 and i can already see they improved 90% of the stuff from the first game, but won't mix GR2 with GR Remastered for now.

You get around in Gravity Rush by manipulating gravity. Use this ability to hurl yourself in any direction, hover, and change direction at any time. This gravity manipulation ability feels physically convincing, and not at all like you're just jumping or using a cheat in other games to walk or fly though the air.

The Gravity Rush series are the only games I know of that have a mechanic and control scheme like this, so it will take most people some getting-used-to, and I fully expect a few of you simply won't be able to. Even after completing the game, the controls feel a bit clunky to me, and I'm not sure what else can be done to improve them without impacting the core experience.

Unlike just about every other Japanese game, there's no invisible walls here. So you can go just about anywhere in or around the city, or even fly between cities if you have enough stamina to do so. if you get too far out of bounds, you'll just be teleported back to a safe spot. The only real downside to city exploration is that you can't go inside any of the buildings, so they do feel just a little fake.

The story starts out weird and charming, with your protagonist having lost her memory, being in an outright alien sort of city, and setting up her own new home in the sewer. Being homeless has never been so much fun.

As you progress through the story, things get a little more tame and generic, though every few episodes (20 in total), the game reveals more about its world and backstory. This succeeded in keeping my attention. But unfortunately, by the end, there were plenty of unanswered questions and one of the main things you try to accomplish during the last half of the game doesn't get an adequate resolution. Well, at least there's Gravity Rush 2, which I'll definitely be playing soon.

The game should take no longer than 10 hours to complete, but might take you 20 or 30, depending on how much you like to explore, and I expect that most people will want to explore.

And since I've been playing plot-hole ridden games recently, I'm glad to report that this game has no big plot holes. The story, although relatively simple (though weird and unique), is completely believable. The story has a daily-life sort of vibe to it, but has some underlying mystery and the ongoing threat of the world's generic enemies. The story works well for all ages, and anyone who is willing to learn gravity control should be able to get some enjoyment out of it.

Since this was originally a vita game, I'll comment about the graphic. The non-player character models are obviously vita-like, but your protagonist and some of the main characters are much better. Not PS4-level, but not bad. The cell shaded graphics help hide the lack of polygons. And I noticed no huge issues with the city. Though since buildings are basically rectangles, they're not hard to reproduce.

I have been playing videogames for very long, and this game felt unique, different to the rest, it stands out taking risks that work really well. Controlling gravity is very fun, extremely fun, sometimes I just lose time travelling around the city, searching for gems, flying from one way to another just having fun. You feel so free. I don't own a PS Vita, so this was my first Gravity Rush experience, I cannot compare the versions, but I can say graphics look really well in this Ps4 version. The story is also quite good, the main character and a few more are quite charismatic, and crazy sometimes as well! There are a few sidequests as well, but apart from challenges I felt there could have been a few more, they are really good so it would have been cool to have a bit more.

The game is not perfect;it is not long, and there are few camera issues (which you'll end up controlling with practice), sometimes you have flown for so long you don't know where you are. Parts where you lose your gravity powers are a bit slow as well, but they don't last for long. But the game is very polished, pros outweigh cons heavily, and with the price it has, I see no reason for not buying it, it is a fabulous experience.

You play as Kat, a girl from a special race known as Shifters with the ability to control and change her own gravitational field. At least i think it's a special race, it's never explained where she came from or how/why she has these powers. I personally like to think she is a prostitute on a really good ecstasy and cocaine high and the game takes place in her dream state. She runs around in her lingerie, which no one seems to question what so ever, and she is immune to all fall damage so i think the theory holds up pretty well. You even meet another Shifter along the way, and she's dressed in even skimpier lingerie than Kat, so it seems all the prostitutes in the city have teamed up to fight crime. But i digress. Kat also will not be confused for a brainiac. Early in the game she falls into a sewer and instead of being disgusted like most normal folks would be, she decides to build a home out of the biggest pipe she can find. But she certainly has a big heart, as she decides straight away to help out the city that she finds herself in without knowing anything about it.

The story is pretty cliched. Kat wakes up with amnesia and finds the city of Hekseville has been split into four parts and has been overrun by Nevi, which are the evil cousins of Link's annoying helper in The Ocarina of Time. the Nevi are apparently being controlled by an evil villain. However, you fully reunite the city and dispose of the evil villain about half way through the game, and the game then spends the rest of the time contriving more reasons for Nevi to still be in the city. A new evil villain is even introduced towards the very end of the game, but there's not enough time for you to get invested on why you should care about him. There are more than a handful of funny dialogue lines, so it's still worth it to not simply skip through all the cutscenes.

The gravity manipulation, which is the core feature of the game, works well most of the time. It's not as disorienting as you might think when you're floating mid air and have the ability to move in 360 degrees. Kat does get hung up on small things like lamp posts too often however. Part of this can certainly be attributed to user error, but I feel as though if i'm flying through the air at close to the speed of sound I should be able to break down a few of the relatively skinny things the city throws up in your way. The gravity field you manipulate can affect pedestrians in your immediate vicinity as well. It's always funny to hear the screams of the mere mortals as you take off to fly around and take a few passers-by with you. Combat consists of boringly kicking enemies, not-so-boringly gravity kicking enemies, and somewhat boring special moves. The gravity kick is where you will spend most of your combat time as it is by far the most effective and fun way to dispatch your enemies. It's somewhat annoying against flying enemies however, as the tracker that it uses can be a fickle mistress, and if the flying enemy you're trying to hit moves a quarter of an inch you will most likely send Kat flying right past it.

Gravity Rush is certainly worth your time to play, either on Vita or PS4. As long as you don't mind the cliched and unfocused story, the gravity manipulation is an interesting gameplay mechanic that, after a little practice, makes for fun times sailing all across the city, and Kat is a likeable character who, while she doesn't fully understand what it is she's doing, understands that she's in a position to help people who need it and will do so whenever necessary.

The only real flaw of the game is that the combat can be repetitive. Can you use skill to become a master of the combat? Yeah, but it's equally feasible to just button mash most of the time. The enemies can be quite tanky at times, meaning you end up bashing them over and over until they finally relent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We all know the old saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” but we all do it. We often glance across a game that isn’t our ‘style’ and continue perusing the shelves until we get that one that glints in your eye. “Gravity Rush 2” was definitely that cover I judged. Developed by SIE Japan Studios and Project Siren, the action/adventure was bright, anime-ish, looked platformy and a sequel, generally what I do not look for in games and spend my cash on.

But the boss man at MKAU thrusted it at me, so into the PS4 the disk went. Now firstly I’ll say this, you do need some knowledge of the previous game if you like to get invested in the plot but it’s not essential. I found I caught on quickly but often found myself wondering what certain little comments referred to.

The story introduces you to Syd and Kat through a gorgeous interactive cinematic mining scene. Syd and Kat have been stranded with the Banga Mining settlement since the events of the previous game, being slave laboured into mining that precious commodity ‘Gravity Ore’.

Gravity Rush 2 has many subtle themes such as strong leading ladies, civil war, social equality, power struggle and good people having to make challenging decisions in the wrong crowds. However all the motifs are ingeniously masked by the outlandish, cheeky and captivating characters and their relationships they create with the people around them. The story is split into 3 acts, with a total of 21 story missions as well as over 50 side missions that add little details that builds the overall picture.

Now this is certainly not the game for anyone that gets motion sickness, that is for sure. Kat is often required to dart off into the sky, flying at high speed in one direction, stop suddenly, change directions or even free falling, all in a blink of an eye. The physics of this game were actually quite amazing and unique. Many games use a similar engine for goofing around with moving objects independently, but it was so cool to use these properties in combat, in a sophisticated way. The moves were easy enough to learn, and the game eases you into learning each one to mastery, before ramming a new set of skills up your you know where. I loved this, it takes time for me to learn a new move, as I find a lot of games overwhelm you at the start requiring you to button mash noobishly till you get comfortable.

The enemies, the jelly-like, bland monsters called the Nevi, corrupt police and their robotic mechs often need the use of a range of combat moves and at times require you to skilfully move between land and sky attacks leading for some engaging fight scenes. One of the most noticeable features of the games are the comic style cut scenes that move from frame to frame. Yes, these and the rest the game are heavily subtitled, but they are brief and when partnered with the awesome artwork they in no way detract from the action. Speaking of artwork, it had me hooked from the very introduction. It is beautifully designed with cell shading type art styles, even the dark and eerie episodes are vivid and alive with contrasting colours.
The camera, the bloody camera. Now I have two camera gripes, I shall explain. Firstly, Kat is given one as tool in the game. In the story mode, it is used to take photos as you roam around, you yourself can even take a selfie. The few occasions it is used in missions, I just felt it was a useless, trivial add on and boring and it was like me scrolling past uninteresting Facebook photos (no offence my friends). If it was in the story anymore than it had, it would have been distracting but I tended to just ignore its presence. The only benefit of it was the well-hidden treasure hunt challenges in the menu, that require you to track treasure and send a photo of its location to other online players.

Secondly, the in-game camera, though not too bad and manageable, at times would glitch in the wall because of the physics of being upside down somewhere. Only a minor annoyance especially when tackling a boss.

I once again researched and watched some gameplay from the previous game and visually not much is different, still rocking the vibrant open world. The background music was very jazzy with many upbeat but orchestral jams developing suspense. I loved it while moving into a battle, my friends not so much after a while.

So my verdict. Well reflecting on my opening statement, I did judge it, but honestly, I couldn’t put it down. Personally, I’m not a fan of PS4 but this exclusive had me dusting off the controller and diving into Kat’s world each time I got a free moment. Boasting a 35 hour plus captivating story line and copious side missions, this charming, mesmerising but oddly humanitarianly inspired game is certainly something outside the mold. So much so it is refreshing.

Unwitting hero but brave and capable girl of color Kat pets her cat and warps gravity to fly and kick-ass and save the world, imperfectly and awkwardly, as heroes are normal people, too.

It’s truly the closest experience I’ve ever had to “playing a comic book”. The people are cell-shaded, giving a hand-drawn look, the cut-scenes are literally panned camera over comic frames with short animations and conversation bubbles, almost every episode ends with a newspaper headline, and as you zoom away from the otherwise 3-D world details, they become more cell shaded and faded and thus look hand-drawn. The plot is grade-A stereotypical of comic books, but self-aware, and the characters other than the protagonist are super-cliche… but the main character knows they’re cliche and comments on it. So it’s got a certain “meta-comic” 4th-wall-breaking feel going on with it as well.

In general, the visuals are gorgeous, and many of the plot scenes are really well rendered and have emotionally effective use of color, darkness, contrast, and camera angle.

The puzzles in the game are also pretty neat - there aren’t a ton, but the few there are are creative. Especially the gravity castle - that’s the best 3-D puzzle I’ve ever seen and I wish they had more of it.

Music isn’t something I’d listen to beyond the game, but it’s well done and feels old-timey to me, it has a lot of golden-age-of-comics feel clips that add to the comic mystique.

It takes a little while to get used to the flying, but (1) turn down “motion controller sensitivity” to 0% (that’s how much of the PS controller’s tilt controls your movement - you want it to zero, trust me), (2) improve your “gauge usage” skill ASAP, as it basically increases the amount of flying and skills you can use before having to rest (at max, you can do a whole boss fight without landing once). It’s super fun to fly, smash into walls and ceilings and then walk or turbo-slide on them.

The game is 90% really awesome and will make me hold every other flying-style action game up to it’s controls, and 10% frustrating as hell. This game is “NES Hard” in the old-fashioned sense for half the missions, not too hard for the rest, and beyond NES Hard for a handful. However, it also auto-saves really frequently, so dying is generally not a problem, you can just pick up where you left off, even in the middle of an end-boss fight.

Most of the controls are really well done, and are very self-explanatory and easy to understand. And then there’s a handful of things that just didn’t need to be as painful as they were. After finishing a mission, the game is busy auto-saving, and during that time, the pause/menu button just plain doesn’t work. Also, it really needed a mission log where you could go back to see what people told you to do, because it’s easy to accidentally skip one frame of discussion, and then have no idea what you’re supposed to do. They also made it too easy to smash into light posts and other thin objects, thus shielding enemies from strikes - they should have made you plow through everything not clearly solid.

Those complaints aside, as they’re not fatal, the game was really well done, and I enjoyed it 90% of the time and only threw my controller at the screen while screaming a handful of times. :-)

Another interesting note is that you really get to see everything from the point of view of a female protagonist. The men in this game suck, really. They’re sexist and stupid and unaware, but the game makes sure to absolutely see things from Kat’s point of view, her thoughts, her worries, her annoyances, her anger, at all the micro aggressions and failure to be emotionally aware or capable adults on the part of (largely) the male antagonists AND fellow protagonists. It’s an element missing from almost all media, and it was welcome in this game - it might not be a happy thing, but it’s an accurate thing.

Oh and other than one of the optional costumes, and the semi-antagonist second Gravity Shifter character, there was ZERO FAN SERVICE. And even in those cases, it was pretty light. No exploding boob characters, no “female armor”. Everyone wears NORMAL CLOTHING, almost like it’s a normal thing, you know. Even the schoolgirl, maid, and soldier outfits you get are… wow, NORMAL.

I’ll definitely play the sequel, as I hear it’s everything good about the original but most of the annoying things fixed.

Sadly there’s not much in the way of post-game. The whole world opens up so you can finish off challenge missions and collect trophies, but there’s no more plot or even people to engage with.

If you like short and sweet action games with a unique motion mechanic, give this one a shot.

At first, I was fascinated and a little repelled to how the gravity mechanic worked in this game, it does feel kinda natural in a way but in the other, the learning curve felt stiff, I was failing over and over to land in the platforms that the tutorial offered me and more sooner than later I was blaming the "clumsy controls" turns out that as a new mechanic (at least to me) or one that has not explored that much in videogames, it had to be treated as a new skill, so from the moment one to the final moment of the game I was another person, expertly maneuvering through the stage, beating monsters like I was born in the sky, and that to me was one of the peaks of this game, not only Kat but you, learn how to handle gravity more or less at the same pace, and that gives it a lot of immersion to my experience, navigating without the bounds of gravity felt extremily good and it was a sentiment that never got old, at least in my 13-hour playthrough.

    However,

The sentiment of liberty of flying around got buried underneath a lot of things, first of all: the gameplay, it turned out that the developers didn't seem to know how exactly merge the gravity mechanic with combat or things to do, and the combat system feels unpolished but serviceable at its best. Combat is separated in two forms, land combat and air combat, the land combat is simple, you hit the attack button from 1 to 5 times to have a combo, to damage your enemies you have to hit their weak spots (some red orbs, regular enemies are a weak spot on themselves), but when the game starts to throw enemies that have their spots on different places and you have to battle in air is when things get rough. When you're in air you have mostly one attack, an aereal kick, this kick sends Kat like a homming missile, the problem is that the targeting system is non existant and the monsters move in erratic ways that is easy to miss them, so more often than not you'll be flying around the stage trying to kick a low monster and failing again and again, these moments aren't fun at all and they will be gradually get more annoying since more weird enemies will keep appearing.

I liked the whimsical tone of the game, the characters are charming, not that interesting but they grew on you, the story however is pretty generic and dull despite its tight presentation in comic form which I think looks pretty good, it wants to get more serious and interesting towards the final act but for that moment is way too late to care that much, it adds salt to the wound that the lore is presented in the most boring way with some NPC sparce through the city giving info about their lives. Side-quests are non-existant, aside from 3 or 4 that originally were DLC, that feel more like separate stories than a compliment for the main story. Aside from the main quests and limited side quests, the game throws you "challenges" that reward you 'precious crystals', the game's currency for unlocking and enhance skills, this challenges are basically: slide races (you use gravity to slide in the floor like you're skating), time attack arenas and normal races (on which you use all your skills to get from point A to point B as fast as possible), this challenges are repeated through every stage and aren't that ground breaking or fun, the problem is that the main campaign doesn't give you a lot of crystals neither enemies drop them, so more likely you'll be doing this repetitive challenges to enhance your skills, granted the game is not that difficult and I assume you can beat it without enhancing Kat but that's not the point.

As for the art direction the game holds up quite well, this world looks amazing, a little limited but is expected since it wasn't a big team, the aesthetic looks inspired by steam punk and Paris and because of its themes of, thievery, revolution, etc, I think it fits well. I loved also the character design, they look pretty original and every character says you a lot just by its looks. Music wise, the game has a solid soundtrack and it has a lot of personality, it sounds at times jazzy and upbeat at parts, but never dull and always pleasant, I find myself expectantly waiting for the next area's tune to kick in.

I believe that Gravity Rush have a lot of great ideas but in the end it failed to achieve a good balance between them or even truly polish any of them, however as much as it have a lot of issues there's no denial that this game have a lot of potential and at times charm, I hope that it's sequel get things done and gives us a polished taste of what they really wanted this game to be.

One of the earliest side missions involved transporting furniture behind a building. Whilst a tedious task in itself, the bad controls made me give up after a few tries. Not only was I flopping about wildly, but I was also catching on railings, walls and pretty much anything else that made such a simple task a Herculean effort.

The combat also suffers from a similar issue, as one of the best attacks is to gravity rush towards an opponent and kick them, however the accuracy of this move varies wildly.

Having said that, I really look forward to trying the sequel because there is a potentially great game in there waiting to be polished and refined. I love how quirky and comical it can be.

If you do not like JRPG or anime or some form of animation art style i am not sure if you will enjoy this as it is in Japanese with English subtitles. I would recommend this to people just from the sheer enjoyment of the games floating mechanics. It is a very nice game and as a remaster i could only imagine just how nice it would have been on the Vita.

if you're unsure about this game id wait for a price drop. But if this game seems interesting to you and you want to fly through the air with super powers and manipulate gravity, pick this up now.

Do not be fooled by the negative reviews. They give high scores to xbox games and prefer first person shooters, there reviews do not count. Pick this up when you're unsure what to play next. you will be surprised in how nice this game actually is.

The gameplay and enemy system may not have been something spectacular, but I give them a big break on that one since they were porting it from Vita to PS4. Where the game excels is in it's colorful characters and fantastic story. I couldn't wait to play each story chapter and see what would happen next each time.

I loved floating around and sliding defeating the Nevi but sadly after a while the game became very repetitive, challenges and missions turned to be the same so the enjoyment doesn’t last much. The game mechanics were frustrating at times, after shifting gravity so many times it gets really hard to orient yourself.

The art style of Kat and Raven was great, the girls looked really sexy, I wish there were more costumes for Kat, the black cat one was the best.

In short, a fun short game to play.

Kat drops into this world, has no idea how she got there and how she got her powers but this is instantly forgotten because she feels an unexplained urge to save the people of the town from the nevi. Again, there is very little explanation as to why they are there and how they are there. Kat also seems very concerned about getting a boyfriend rather than figuring out why and how she can float.

The controls are a complete mess. This was always going to be hard given the nature of the game but they are terrible. She randomly flies off surfaces which throws you halfway across the world during a fight or worse during the time trial challenges. The camera cannot keep up with her and the idea that every surface can be a floor. Too many times I have been left with FIFA like anger at how poorly the camera behaves during key moments and how this throws her off course.

Motion controls are on...why? and these can't be changed. They can be turned down but as I figured out they are never fully off as the camera for the map will always rotate.

It's ok, wouldn't recommend it and I don't understand the fuss everyone has about this game and the character. She means well but is portrayed in an overly JRPG way. Why write her to be independent and strong at times if she is going to be sad and hurt that a boy doesn't like her. The game is confused.

A seriously fantastic game. It's one of those games that is so fun to just move around in, even if you're just collecting shinies or not doing anything in particular. The storyline is wacky. It's a little bit too nonsensical for me, but it has it's charms. Combat is difficult to control at first but once you get a few upgrades it's a lot of fun.

It's just a really unique, fun game. I would honestly recommend it to pretty much anyone.

It’s the game hardly anybody played, remade in such a way as to demand every respectable gamer's attention. Take the plunge. [April 2016, p70]
