All the side collection items just are not worth the trouble. Overall, solid installment compared to IV but too short and hollow Expand

GTA V was an alright-ish game. It had an average story without any interesting plot twists. The graphics was also good enough. The characters were generally as expected, however the psychopath was somewhat interesting. This is the only reason the score is as high as 5. I think they tried to do too many things and ended up with a vanilla experience that is nothing special.

    Other things worth mentioning:
    * It is very repetitive.
    * You have to drive everywhere. I do too much of that in real life as it is. We should be able to call a cab ... but wait, there is a cab calling function. Too bad I only found out about it after searching google for a fast travel option. Therefore I had to subtract some points for wasted effort.

The main drawback with making a completely open-world game is that you cannot handcraft everything in the game. This causes it to become repetitive. I am starting to miss the "bad old days" with it's linear game play

Few buildings are fully-enter-able with detail interiors, you die really easily and wanted level builds up so fast that makes random killings of NPCs a chore and no longer fun. There is also so little things you can do, the nightclub gets boring real fast.

The online components is worse. Griefing is prevalent and players kill each other for fun making passive mode a must have to enjoy co-operative missions. The co-op missions are dull and darksoul-ish where players die very easily and failure will demand a full restart from beginning. Makes online very very dull.

Overall its a horrible game just don't buy it.

The game is brilliant in two main parts:

    1) Main story, with he different characters, their lifes, the voice acting, the animations ... Excelent, superb!. Following the main story missions is what makes this game shine.

    2) Open world graphics! Might not be as good as on PC, but depending where you are or what you are doing the graphics of this game can go from good to gorgeous. The lights, details on the streets, the water, flying the plane. Brilliant.

Now, this game can be definitely be improved in these aspects:

    1) The shooting parts. The animations are smooth and look cool yes, but it handles extremely SLOW. Also, whats with the auto aim? It ruins all the fun, seriously.

    2) Driving. OK... how many GTA's have been released now? If one of the main features in the game is stealing cars and driving around, why is the handling so damn BAD?? The brakes are super super sensitive, the handbrake makes the car slide into infinity, and it's just close to impossible to take corners in a satisfying way with a fast car.

Overall, excellent game, well worth the money. But in my opinion it can be improved a lot. I'd rather have a game with less content but good handling.

The most fun I have ever had playing video games was the first month or so that GTAV was released. Playing with my buddies and cousins online was hysterical and just the debauchery, the customization, the real world locations, the vehicles and of course, the guns.
To be honest, we haven't played that much lately - new games come out and the expansion content hasn''t impressed me too much.

Still, when I think back on the times I had playing GTAV and the fact that I still fire it up and get lost in Los Santos I have to give this game a 10. That and I can't imagine why the average score is 8.2...so I inflated my score a bit. tbh, the game is still a solid 9.

My favorite metaphor for the GTA franchise is this: imagine you have a friend who you often meet at parties. Whenever you do, you tend to have an awesome night of silly conversation and drink-fueled, reckless fun. But every now and then you meet them in a more sober environment during the day, and when you try to strike a conversation... it's just kinda awkward and not the same. Likewise,My favorite metaphor for the GTA franchise is this: imagine you have a friend who you often meet at parties. Whenever you do, you tend to have an awesome night of silly conversation and drink-fueled, reckless fun. But every now and then you meet them in a more sober environment during the day, and when you try to strike a conversation... it's just kinda awkward and not the same. Likewise, in Grand Theft Auto V you'll often find yourself immersed in the most crazy, action-filled, over-the-top criminal adventures. But every now and then, an extremely mundane section comes along and ends up feeling like the sober day job part of the characters' lives. Oh well, a night-only friend can still be a great friend if you just focus on what makes the friendship tick, and the same happens with Rockstar's latest.

GTA V has you playing as three main characters: rookie hustler Franklin, retired thief Michael, and complete-freaking-nutjob druglord Trevor. Their stories start intertwining as you make your way through the game's campaign, and the writing is decent enough that the many cutscenes are actually very enjoyable to watch. The gameplay is your typical GTA fare: a very competent action-adventure romp that throws you into an open-world city (or, in this game's case, an entire small state) and tasks you to survive by making it big as a criminal. You'll steal vehicles, drive around town, enter gunfights with rival gangsters, run from the police, and ocasionally pick up a hooker. Controls are mostly intuitive and the action is responsive.

Like in pretty much every GTA game since the first one, the real star of the show is the seamless open-world exploration. GTA V's state of San Andreas features a whole bunch of different environments, from the bustling metropolis of Los Santos to small villages up north to vast patches of mountain wilderness. There are a lot of cool details waiting around for your attention, such as the entire episodes of fictional TV shows you can watch. Just wandering around can be pretty great; at one point, I stole a jet-ski and went around the state, just looking for stuff. I found a deserted beachside camp with more jet skis, then tried to find my way back to civilization while terrorizing wild animals and unsuspecting citizens unlucky enough to be driving nearby. It's this sort of mindless fun that's arguable the game's greatest strenght.

But of course, there are also more structured missions. This is where the game (the franchise, really) fluctuates wildly in quality for me. I mean, stealing a top-secret army weapon or torching a competitor's meth lab can be fun enough. But then you end up doing stuff such as operate a crane, tow a car, or going drinking with a friend for no discernable in-game benefit... and frankly, those can get so dull that it beats me why they're even in the game (and worse, some as mandatory campaign missions).

Some other missions have different problems: the worst offender in my eyes makes a minigame out of a brutal torture section. I fully believe that game violence can be done in a mostly harmless way, especially when it's as wonderfully overblown (and tongue-in-cheek) as it generally is in GTA. This sort of thing, however, feels like taking a turn for the disturbing just for the hell of it, especially because the actual gameplay in the aforementioned mission is completely dull and uninteresting.

Controversies aside, it's hard not to admire GTA V for what it does well. It's a game that is fun a lot of the time, especially because it eschews any sort of faux-serious vibe, opting instead for the serie's trademark penchant for the zany. It may be overrated in my eyes, but it's still worth your time.

I had GTA V pre ordered way back in 2012, long before it's initial release because I knew it would be something special, I knew that Rockstar, the greatest games producer on the planet next to Bethesda , would not let me down. And they didn't, when I played it for the first time on PS3 it was magical; a huge, detailed immersive world with a rich, powerful story and unforgettable charactersI had GTA V pre ordered way back in 2012, long before it's initial release because I knew it would be something special, I knew that Rockstar, the greatest games producer on the planet next to Bethesda , would not let me down. And they didn't, when I played it for the first time on PS3 it was magical; a huge, detailed immersive world with a rich, powerful story and unforgettable characters the likes of which could be found nowhere else, but sadly there was no multiplayer and once I hit 90% completion I got a little bored and I strayed, and traded it in.

Then they re-released it for 'new-gen' and my god is it now perfect.

Everything has been upgraded, the visuals, as beautiful as they were before, have been overhauled to the max; rays of light penetrate tree leaves and hedgerows, cars glisten in the sun and the rain, textures look incredibly detailed, water looks real and everything just FEELS real. Draw distances have significantly improved. The world is more populated now, enhanced traffic and NPC modelling makes the world feel more alive, grassy areas have been improved so they they now appear to be fields rather than flat bits of dirt with the odd patch of grass. Overall the reworked world model appears more dynamic and real, as though it isn't a game at all.
Attention to detail is present in the game now more than ever; tides come in and out, car drive trains work as they would in real life and the first person screen tints if you are wearing sunglasses, which brings me onto the first person mode. GTA has historically been a third person game, which has always been fine but imagine a world that made you feel part of it. Switch to the first person viewpoint and everything changes, movement feels fluid and real, weapon detail is enhanced, the whole system just works.
The story-line and side missions all remain the same, there's nothing new there other than the same set of reworked visuals, you'll notice details you didn't before and the characters feel all the more real as a result; however the story is so good I happily played through it this second time.
The multiplayer again, remains more or less the same, only this time it feels sometimes like call of duty, as you switch into first person for deathmatch modes and the like, but again, it was done so well the first time round it was still as much fun to play, you can even bring your character over from you PS3 account.
The one main thing that Rockstar have stuck to is the deployment of free content downloads; there's no DLC and any extra content that's added for the multiplayer like cars and guns, carries over to the single player world. Meaning that your purchase of GTA V is a one time only event, you'll always be able to enjoy the full experience, it also means that the game world is always evolving, dropping in new cars to acquire or new weapons to play around with.
I'd like to say this is the part were I make the review sound more balanced and point out the flaws but there are literally no flaws in the game, none that I've found anyway, so I guess I'll just have to sound like crazed fan or Rockstar spokesperson, but that's okay with me. GTA V, the best game you can buy right now.
