It is a real GT game with lots of cars and races but there are a few differences. You need to be online to play anything beyond a few basic races with a minimal set of cars. Payouts for races have been lowered. A few were raised but the total amount of the ones that were lowered is much more than those that were increased.

You can use real money to buy cars. Not a huge deal to me, I am fine with grinding if I really want a car. The real issue is that the online races allow for modified cars that you can upgrade them with better parts. So if someone with just OK skills want to throw money at a car they will have a better car. Makes the online races pay to win.

I'll give it a 4 because I'm feeling nice. After the cafe stuff is done which took a few days then what? Did all the licenses which seemed pointless but did it for the completion part. Where are the endurance races? Update the game with some more races and we will talk.

I should be able to sell my cars, and I should not have to see races see a decline in credit rewards through patches. It's a shame that one of my favorite franchises of all time has been brought to its knees by this silly always-online requirement and poor business decisions. Gran Turismo 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, it helped inspire my love of cars at a young age. That game is still playable today, will GT7 be playable in 20 years? Probably not.

Underneath it all, yes, the game itself is good. The driving physics are awesome!!!
I'm just concerned that Sony is going to throw away their legacy when these titles inevitably go offline, GT7 will likely, at some stage, be unplayable forever. PlayStation, this is the WRONG DIRECTION for your company and brand, it is shameful!

I feel like the industry has just absolutely abandoned what I love about games in favor of catering to whales for an extra buck. Fallout 76, (my last time posting to Metacritic) was a complete joke and unfortunately, GT7 is right alongside it in its current state. Both of my favorite franchises now have a huge stain on their legacy and history. It's just a sad time to be a gamer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great game marred by disgusting greed. In addition to the price of the game, the emphasis is of collecting cars, yet the in race rewards are pitiful. This has been made worse by the latest update cutting the rewards to 'not worth entering' races.

Coupled to that is the absolute joke of the FIXED roulette reward system that 9 tomes out of ten will give you the very basest coin reward.

There are clearly predatory microtransactions in the psn store and the in game earnings have been cut to push you to spending real world money to progress in the game. Purchasing and tuning a car in GT7 is horrendously expensive. I have been doing a race over and over to earn 60,000 credits a time because I refuse to spend any more money on this game, 60,000 goes nowhere. You may need 350,000 to properly tune a car. This 60,000 has now been cut to 10,000. I'm not stupid and I refuse to pay real world money for credits in an online only game.

I never thought I would see polyphony digital align itself with the behaviour and business models of EA and Bethesda.

I used to like GT in PSX, a lot, but not anymore, GT7 is basically a GT Sport, It doesn't feel like it brings anything new, in fact it feels like an old GT. Great job on marketing selling it, but quite disappointed after buying and played. For me the most annoying thing is that Very often the game is updating so I can't even play in solo mode as it needs internet all the time.

I love a lot about this game but I wish the broken enconomy was optional. That's the true cost of microtransactions, even if we don't engage with them. We can't opt out of a broken economy, that only exists to turn players into payers.

Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but it always was an another car for your collection. Here you can win cash, tuning part or a car. But mind you, after many rolls I had maybe one medium cash reward. That's it, all of them were small amounts, even smaller than for winning a simple race. I said that tuning is nice, yes, but not it's a bit expensive. So please, all you have to do, is implement GT Sport economy into this game. I never complained about lack of credits in their previous game, but still it was a challenge to collect enough to buy some legendary car. Oh and another thing: constant internet connection to even play offline? Come on.

This game is pretentious, contrived, and boring. Polyphony had a shot at making the best ever Gran Turismo - lord knows they had the time - and yet they have come out with this.

-Widebodies is a good addition to the game and can be easily bought.
    -Good selection of tracks.
-Any car paint can be bought although preview car is not your current car.
-Scapes is a very good camera feature.
-Custom races are very customizable but the payout is super terible.

    The Middle:
-Engine swaps are a new addition to the series but are locked behind the terrible roulette system.
-Visual parts are back but there not much different from Gran Turismo 6's.
-The instrumental music is very good while the vocal music is bad, so it's just a weird clash of old music with new music.
-A lot of new tuning options but a good chunk of cars cannot be upgraded with a turbo.
-Lacking a lot of races when compared to GT Sport and older GT titles.
    -Music rally is fine
-GT Cafe is a very good addition but it's pretty short and the speech bubbles get annoying after a while.

    The Cons:
-Used dealership updates 1-3 cars whenever it wants.
-Terrible roulette system that gives out barebone prizes and locks away sought after parts behind it.
-Race payouts were lowered in a update while car prices remained the same.
-99% of the game is online only
-Mircotransactions are a lot worse than GT Sport's and Gran Turismo 6's.
    -Barely any new recent cars.
-Legend Dealership has too many highly priced cars that shouldn't be even that high in a racing game.
-Cars in your garage cannot be sold, only discarded.

Especially if you don't communicate when a 2 hour server maintenance is sitting at 20 hours offline so far. Add to that a structure that really starves payouts in mid-late game, limited time car sales and screens that perpetually push expensive micro-transactions and suddenly the really poor, dated AI seems the least of your problems!

Is it fun? When it works, sure. And it looks amazing on PS5, runs like a dream. While I spent 20+ hours playing on a friend's PS5 before deciding to get it on my PS4. Unfortunately for me, bugs had been introduced into the licences regarding dirt tires. I always felt the dirt (and drift) aspects of the game shouldn't be forced on the general populace of Gran Turismo. It should be entirely optional, as should things like an unstoppable 10 minute or longer video clip when first loading the game or a forced music rally where the HUD and lack of engine noise make manual shifting frustrating. But these are the odd design decisions that can immediately hamper the experience in a game that does the GT aspect rather well. Except for its AI.
Any time progression involves repeating quests to go from last to first repeatedly cannot really be considered a real simulator to begin with, and add funky changed physics at lower speeds alongside physics that feels like it's different track to track, and you start to see that it's more a progressional arcade game with some simulation than anything else.
Good for the dopamine hits and challenging to be sure, only the later game is now focused on microtransactions; pay to collect. And it's not subtle, every opportunity to spendearned credits has an opportunity to purchase at the cash sstore. Highly desirable cars have that FOMO feeling as they're time limited and may also have limited stock across the globe. And then there's the nail in the coffin; server maintenance. In particular the one occurring as I write. Originally supposed to be 2 hours. 2 hours in, revised to 3 hours. Included update 1.07. The servers are still down 21 hours on. With no updates from PD or Sony.
For a largely single player game this is an insane, absurd issue caused by the forced online connectivity required for any progression and any gaming mode other than the poorly received Music Rally and Arcade modes, both modes probably not really being what a Gran Turismo 7 player is after and definitely not what I'd want to play.
Suddenly the game feels like it is designed with only cash microtransactions in mind, and the payout revamp apparently occurring in 1.07 seems that it may be to reduce people's opportunity to earn in-game currency; for that, we'll have to see. If the game even goes live again, or when it goes live again. Perhaps these issues will be addressed today or soon, but this recent experience reminded me of why I should simply stick to PC for racing sims. And it makes me hesitant to ever purchase another Playstation or GT game ever again.

To start with, the start, Music Rally, which you MUST play, no "oh I'll come back to it later", you don't at least try the first Music Rally you don't get into the game.

Then there's the fact it's locked behind a "must be online" to play even single player mode DRM lock. Why is this even necessary? I'm playing single player mode, maybe once a month to check for necessary updates, but EVERY time, are you for real???

The actual content, pathetic, the missions, the licenses, they're still there, with their usual flaws that I'll come back to, but the racing, if you just want great deep racing, don't waste your money, GT5 and 6 have more racing then this does.

Going back to those flaws. You remember I'm sure, earlier iterations of Gran Turismo, where you'd do a mission or license, and you'd fail it as you overtook another car safely then IT would hit you but YOU were failed for the collision even though it wasn't your fault, yep, it's still there, or you start a challenge with your ghost on, yet despite just driving in a straight line, in the same car, with the EXACT same settings, somehow it gets a better start, yep, again, still there. These are basic things that should be long gone by now, but nope.

Pitting, how is it, you pit, the nearest car is maybe 10 seconds behind you, both change tyres, both fully refuel, yet somehow, the other car gets in FIRST, and gets out first?

Microtransactions, yep they're in this now. Got to get the grift on.

Then there's the rigged prize "roulette", and yes it IS rigged, I tested it. Roulette is supposed to be a game of chance or luck, there's absolutely no chance or luck involved in this roulette. There is a technique to repeat the roulette spin if you don't like the prize, it's not healthy for the PS, but I had an older model and a newer one so I took the chance, if you pull the power lead fractionally after you get the prize, it doesn't save so you get to re-run the roulette. I put this to the test 20 times. 5 prizes, 20 spins, now for the record, during the re-spins some of the higher prizes changed, however, EVERY spin I got the exact same prize, the EXACT same prize, the odds of that are in the millions to 1, yet everytime, exact same outcome!

There's also another aspect to this rigged roulette, to buy some cars, they're locked and you need "invitations" to buy them, to get the invitations you must..... win them in the rigged roulette!

This game just feels like one of the old prelude Gran Turismo's rather then a full game. I've played EVERY GT since the original came out, and I've never been disappointed, until now, this, it just feels like a cash cow milking the GT name.

It feels like a huge emphasis has been put on online racing at the expense of the main game, but online has been a part of GT since even GT5, which, at least in my opinion is still by far the best, and if the servers were still running, I'd rather play that, then this pile of steaming garbage.

Absolutely not worth the money, just a pure waste of your hard earned. This game is a disgusting entry to a distinguished franchise.

The excitement lasts until I spin it and get an invitation to purchase a rare car. I've only ever received three invitations to purchase a rare car and every single invitation has been for the exact same Porsche, despite there being plenty other cars that need an invitation to purchase.

Like many others, my biggest beef with the game are the ridiculous non-random roulette tickets, micro transactions, overly expensive cars, and hiding fun game features like rare cars, engine swaps, etc. behind the broken roulette system.

The developer greed is hard not to notice with this game. Even though it's fun to play, I can't give it any better of a score due to the blatant disrespect shown to us players.

GT7's single player content pales in comparison to previous titles, essentially feeling like a long-winded tutorial. Many other elements feel similarly underwhelming and underdeveloped.

The developers also clearly push players towards microtransaction purchases, going as far as utilizing alarming FOMO tactics, rather than rewarding us as we advance through our racing careers.

This game is simply not what was expected, or even advertised. The dearth of single-player content, combined with a restricting and unfulfilling progression system, makes this game legitimately hard to return to, which for a title containing as much history as this one, hurts a great deal.

One last thing I want to mention is the baffling fact that 99% of the game's content, meaning all story-related modes and earnings, are tied to online connectivity. Servers go down? You're SOL... which has currently been the case for the last *20 hours (!!!!!)* since writing this review. Simply unacceptable.

WE STAND AGAINST YOUR PREDATORY MICROTRANSACTIONS !

FIX THIS GAME PROBLEMS OR GT7 WILL DIE SONY !

1- Few brand new cars to the series and tracks compared to GT Sport, we need more like: Porsche 918, Jag XJ220, EB110 SS, Mclaren P1, 720S, SF90 Stradale, 812 Superfast, Koenigsegg Agera, Chiron SS, Venon F5, Saleen S7 TT, Maserati MC12, Porsche 959, Cizeta V16T, Ruf CTR2, New V8 Vantage, New M3, New RS4 Avant, New C63 AMG Sedan, etc...

2- Ai "Sophy" system it's totally Hardcore and unbalanced on the Gr.Series campaing events, they must turn down the Ai difficulty level -25% at least

3- Making in game cash (credits) it´s a true grind, we need more cash gains and rewards to make the cars more obtainable as well the performance mods (without PAYING REAL EXTRA MONEY)

4- Make us able to sell our cars again like in every other GT game

5- Performance mods are too weak to the point that feels unrealistic, i know some cars in game that can produce with the same mods a lot more power in real life, like the classic VW Beetle, in real life i know there is shops that can make it with +300hps tuned to the max with a big turbo, but in game it´s about 100hps tuned to the max even turbocharged, we need a lot more HPs on this performance mods for all cars

6- Make it 100% playable offline and stop forcing PP to get the PS Plus !

    > Still things they can fix over time, otherwise it's a good game, looks great and physics are more realistic than previous GT games but sometimes it´s too hard to control the car, if you are coming from GT Sport i will recomend waiting some months for future discounts, more content and fixes ! !

Otherwise the game itself could be good... If you could play offline, earn fair money and without microtransactions...
What is the point of not being able to play solo mode when there isn't Internet connection or the servers are down? What a joke.

So the patch 1.07 and 1.08 cut the earning by half? Seriously? And Kazunori Yamauchi said "I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again." So why you cut earnings by half?

The engine swapping system is outrageous: you need to get engines with their stupid roulette?
The cars are nice looking on PS4 but the tracks are really bland and feel empty.
I have to say it: Gran Turismo is dead, Forza is way better since many years now. I'm glad I can play it on Steam.

Just recently we had an incident where the game was offline for over 24 hours, leaving players unable to play any single player cafe races, missions, license tasks, drive their hard earned cars, earn credits, tune their cars and play online multiplayer. I could list more, such as car maintenance, and purchasing them using credits among others. Whilst multiplayer features going offline are understandable, singeplayer features being unavailable is a a mahore worry and for a game costing as much as it does, is unacceptable. Secondly, the credits system has been changed from previous entries in this series, to payout less per race. Combined with cars costing at time 8 to 10x what they would compared with previous titles makes it a grindy mess which is evidently due to the presence of microtransactions. Finally, the singplayer content is lacking when compared to GT2, 3, 4, 5, 6 at launch. Expand

Cafe is the worst idea ever, it's a bunch of nonsense conversations for old men who consider themselves "cultured" or whatever, it's certainly not for people who just want to enjoy the freedom of racing in fast cars. Because of Cafe you can not progress in the order you'd like. Tracks have to be unlocked over time. Custom races are possible, but earn you a ridiculously low amount of money. Also, I've had crashes on GT7, I've had freezes and framedrops, it's playable but it's not a first party 70 euro/60 dollar (ex tax) experience.

But enough complaints: I'll give a solution too: get GT Sport. It's cheaper, it works better, there's still freedom there, the racing UI is the same, the tracks are the same but a few are missing (which aren't fun anymore since the updates anyway) and you'll hardly miss the few cars which aren't in it, since you won't be able to afford those for probably months anyway. And even if you do, you won't find any real use for them in GT7. GT Sport is in retrospect a slimmed down and improved version of GT7.

requires online to play, which is fine on my side, but when they take off everything for a couple of days...
microtransactions on a free to play game are fine
microtransactions on a budget game are bad
microtransactions on a 70$ game are awful
microtransactions that aren't even that macro make the whole thing a joke

there's something good behind all this... but it's just not worth playing

What a disappointment. Servers often down and the microtransactions ruin the whole game. Thanks sony. I will think twice in the future if I pre-order a product from you again!

It could have been an amazing game. It still can be. But in its current state (version 1.08) it is not worth playing in my opinion. It is visually amazing, the ai is great, track selection is

    1) This game requires you to be online for virtually all of its single player content. There is ZERO reason for this. Unfortunately, unless people stop buying games that force this 'you must be connected at all times' model, it will keep happening. I bought a GAME, not an ongoing SERVICE.

    2) During the review period right before the game's launch, there were no microtransactions in the game to report. As soon as all the reviews went live and the game released, suddenly after every race, you were reminded that you could buy credits for real money on the PSN store. Huh. I wonder why they didn't do that while all the major publications were reviewing it...that's one heck of a coincidence.

    3) If you get a ticket as a reward for completing an objective, when you go to cash it in, you're presented with a roulette wheel with 5 prizes on it, and it starts spinning. You instinctively believe that you have a 20% chance to win any of the prizes. NOPE. You always win the lowest prize. The game is fixed. Look, if you're only going to give me 2000 credits, that's fine, but don't tease me into thinking that I might win a lot more.

    4) Invitations. So, a random manufacturer will send you an invitation to buy a special vehicle for a limited time only. This is more pressure for you to spend real money on credits, otherwise you won't have time to grind out the money for this car before the invitation ends, because the race payouts are so low.

    5) Exactly 14 days after the game's release, patch 1.08 cut just about every race's winnings in half. You read that correctly...IN HALF. This was already a grindy game with fairly low payouts before the patch, and now they're just slapping you in the face while yelling "GO BUY CREDITS WITH REAL MONEY AT THE STORE, DUM-DUM!"

This is too much. No matter how quality the game is, you get the distinct impression that these people are trying to milk you of every cent possible, and have no respect for your time. Well, up yours, Polyphony Digital. If you don't fix this, I will never buy another one of your products. These issues were all self-inflicted. Don't be so incredibly greedy (and creepy...allow offline single player campaign, please.)

The game is pretty boring.. Playstation is just getting lazy it seems.
The game is always online, so yeah the game was down for over 24 hours so no one was aloud to play the game.
The game was pretty hard to make money to buy things for your vehicle or buying vehicles was hard because of the prices and how much you get from races.
So a new patch for the game came out !!! Yayroght and Playstation cut the money you get from the races in half so now its so much hard to do anything.... Well the game is meh.. sometimes it looks beautiful.. but really there is a lot of better games out there to play..
Xboxs Forza different racing game but it's fun and beautiful! Really play that instead if you can.. I give it a 3/10...
    Playstation get your stuff together.

Internet connection required for the solo campaign (WTF)
3 times less cars than in GT6 and almost 2 times less than in Forza Motorsport 7
No new race brought by the game (first time it happens in the franchise !) Microtransactions in-game prices multiplied by 8 for some cars ! lie on the fact that the game would be a next-gen' game 80$/80€ for a cross-gen game with nothing that justifies

    no speed feelings

Looks like a upscaled PS3 game (Even on Ps5) Microtransactions. Always online. This game is n itself a good game (Even if the graphics is kind of outdated and the soundtrack is awful) But it is totally destroyed by microtransacions and the always online is just horrible.

I loved Gran turismo before this game. If things dont change i will not buy Gran Turismo 8

Single player cannot be played offline.
    Riddled with microtransactions.
    Updates keep breaking the game.
Updates make it harder to win money for cars.
Game has been under "server maintenece" for over 24 hours (3/18/22), stripping you from even playing single player modes.

    2. Online Multiplayer aspect especially "Sport mode" is unbalance, BoP and Tuning are mixed, multiplayer should just be Delayed as a separated DLC. 3. GT7 doesn’t feel like a truly new game – more like an upgraded version of Sports. But it’s par for the course for the series: each generation, Polyphony Digital makes a solid foundation and then builds upon it. [Issue#260, p.38]

Gran Turismo 7 strikes the perfect balance between accessibility and realism in a way that caters to casual players and veterans. It's a gorgeous racing game with a surprisingly addictive gameplay loop thanks to the new Café and Menu Books systems. While some modes are certainly not as strong as others, Gran Turismo 7 checks almost all the boxes of what a driving simulator should be.

A return to form for Gran Turismo. After too many years, Polyphony Digital crafted an almost perfect iteration of Gran Turismo, where past and present blend together for an epic journey through the car culture.
