Jun 27, 2017Get Even is so much more than just survival-horror and that makes things very interesting. Sometimes you have to do a lot of searching and backtracking, which can be frustrating, but mostly this is a thrilling catch-you-by-the-throat-kind of psychological video game.

games(TM)Jul 7, 2017An unusual, occasionally powerful, must-play game. [Issue#189, p.79]

Jul 7, 2017Get Even is a respectable first-person shooter, sure. But despite finishing the game eager to start a second playthrough to experience the story with new perspective, the lack of player choice was a considerable disappointment. I felt duped for hunting down every piece of evidence during my time with Cole Black, because it didn’t influence the truth that ultimately emerged. This omission reduces Get Even from an imaginative game to a passable one that made me feel I was watching a thriller film more than playing a game.
-
Jun 29, 2017Get Even's use of layered sound and even more layered story is unsettling and great, but other awkward mechanics make this psychological thriller a bit less than the sum of some very fine parts.
-
Jun 27, 2017Whilst the story is compelling with plenty of facets to dig into, the pacing and combat felt a little tiresome. Great characters and presentation become mired in an experience that could’ve been tighter. Get Even is worth a look for a strong, narrative adventure with some interesting hooks, if you can stomach the uneven pacing.
-
Jun 23, 2017Despite some technical failings, the narrative and the atmosphere make the trip to Get Even worth taking.
-
Jun 21, 2017Get Even tells a devastating story that ends with a striking M. Night Shyamalan-like twist. Interestingly, it's the most crucial part of the entire story, and you see none of it. The visuals are left entirely to the imagination, which is unexpected and impactful. It is these kinds of powerful moments that emphasize Get Even's key strength--delivering a twisting narrative that is fascinating enough to make up for its lackluster gameplay elements.
-
Jun 21, 2017A sometimes beguiling yet, frequently intriguing blend of first-person exploration and shooter genres, Get Even’s uneven execution results in a game that is commendable for its ambition and relentlessly engaging narrative, but one which ultimately fails to come together in practice.
-
Jun 21, 2017While it has its flaws, there’s a uniqueness to Get Even we rarely see in video games today. Right away, The Farm 51 demonstrates its desire to be different, crossing between genres and actually taking a gamble. While it doesn’t always pay off, we’re still left with something both intriguing, experimental and, at times, thought provoking.
-
Jun 27, 2017Despite its flaws, Get Even is still a very worthwhile experience. The game’s narrative is a little predictable, but it’s told well. It builds tension unlike anything else, and uses jump scares sparingly to give maximum effect. It’s a great game, with unfortunate quirks holding it back – which will hopefully get patched out.

Games Master UKJun 22, 2017Like its protagonist, you're left feeling Get Even needed a little more love and attention to make its many ideas come together. [July 2017, p.83]
-
Aug 30, 2017Get Even has a lot of ambition, but never quite realises it. While there are lots of individual beats to like – most notably the exceptional music and sound design - its multiple influences never quite congeal into anything solid.

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaJul 7, 2017Get Even needed to get even better to be more than a chocolatey handful of our favourite things.[August 2017, p76]
-
Jul 3, 2017It’s ambitious, imaginative and often intriguing and does its best to deliver something fresh and unique. Unfortunately, Get Even fails to nail down the fundamentals, resulting in a sadly disjointed, overwrought experience.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKJun 24, 2017It's often said, 'It's the journey that counts, not the destination'. Get Even is evidence that's not always the case, as the sum of its parts fails to gel despite some good moments. [July 2016, p.88]
-
Jun 22, 2017Get Even intertwines exploration, walking simulator, shooter and easy puzzles with intense narrative that has ramifications based on decision that hooks the player. But mixing up all those mechanics without any of them being truly remarkable, several visual issues, specially taking into consideration the genre we're talking about, and its constant up and downs when it comes to gameplay hinder its value among the many nowadays competitors.
-
Jun 22, 2017A tangle of technical and gameplay issues often obscure it, but there’s some impressive storytelling to be had in this ambitious techno-thriller.
-
Jun 27, 2017Get Even is almost afraid of what it could have been, settling for a more traditional horror experience instead of becoming what it really wants to be. The genre has been healthy in recent months, but a wildly different approach is always welcome and Get Even only accomplishes that in fleeting moments.

Jun 22, 2017A trashy, overwrought psychodrama with the odd inspired touch that alternates between simple forensic puzzles and gimmicky gunplay.
