It isn’t the most beautiful or artistically consistent game in the world, with an art style that could be charitably described as generic high-fantasy. On the other hand, it is a free-to-play game that rarely reminds the player that they could or should be paying real money.

Much more so than the super-repetitive, bland Dark Reign, this is a true (and free) successor to the Puzzle Quest games of the past. TheMuch more so than the super-repetitive, bland Dark Reign, this is a true (and free) successor to the Puzzle Quest games of the past. The individual battles are tense and can be tough, and the number and variety of unlockable troops (none of which, I don't think, require any payment) gives this match three game a decent amount of tactical depth. The addition of guilds, the ability to level up troops, and some limited quest-like options add to this depth. The real disappointments are an AI opponent that deploys spotty tactics at times, and the lack of true head to head battles. That kind of feature would have put this up there in my book with Puzzle Quest 1 and 2 for greatness. As it is, this is free and can easily consume hours of any match-three fan's time. Expand

It was recommended to me since I was a fan of Puzzle Quest, and while this lacks on the entertaining "questline" of those games, It might actually be better in most other respects. Graphically it's pretty basic, bright colors make everything easy to see as nothing looks remotely the same on the gem board itself. When it comes to team building and RPG elements it's pretty great and surprisingly deep for a title that is truly free.

That might be it's greatest strength in fact. Many games are marketed as "free" but get bogged down with either massive difficulty spikes, endless grinding, or constant ads. For a little perspective, I've never paid a cent to this game, yet I'm around level 250, belong to a top 50 ranked guild, and just generally maintain as a strong player. It also doesnt really advertise for you to buy extra stuff. It doesnt require replenished energy or anything like that to participate in battles so you can play literally for hours with no issue if you so choose.

Mostly I sign on each night to play a bit before bed, it's a relaxing game that continues to offer cool new cards, fun incentive to try new classes and teams, and a generally well balanced feeling that even some full fledged games don't possess.

I wish more people played the game, but for now it's a fun little community here on PS4, for a free game across multiple systems it's extremely hard to **** about.

Is this an addictive puzzle game with surprisingly deep deck-building? Absolutely.

I got this game at the urging of a friend, having never played anything of the sort. Two hours later I was trying "one last game" to get the gems I needed to upgrade my team. I think my favorite part is that you can drop in for a quick match or two without any massive time commitment. The addition of guilds and weekly events are enjoyable, and there really isn't any need to buy anything if you don't want (I certainly haven't). There is more skill to this than appears at first glance, and a treasure map level makes that abundantly clear.

Definitely recommended for puzzle game fans, or even fans of card-based games such as MtG.

Don’t pay to play. Good game but bad support.

This game is very addictive, but don't pay money for it! Their customer service management is disappointing. I say this as a paying customer who has been playing this game for over a year.

I spent $130 to get to VIP Level 5. I was planning to increase my VIP status by investing more money, but our guild had an awful experience when a technical issue due to a glitch of their own making caused one of our dedicated players to be locked out of the game. She was unable to participate in Guild Wars, a weekly tourney with a substantial grand prize worth competing for. We went down one player—a severe handicap inevitably causing us to lose. However, there was no doubt that we would have won first place if we had a full roster.

We sent tickets to support hoping to be compensated for the forced loss. Their response was not only several days delayed but also equally disappointing. They do not want to compensate us because it is too much of a hassle for them. Even though it was their fault that we lost, they were worried what other guilds might do if we were properly compensated. So they settled for doing nothing more than a global "cookie cutter" compensation of what equates to breadcrumbs compared to the loss we have incurred. They insisted upon applying a general solution to a specific problem. It's a mismatch! Then they brushed us off.

This incident has caused us to lose faith in them. We happen to be ranked number one guild on the PS4. Our guild is composed of many dedicated players who have invested significant time and money into this game. If this is how they treat long-time paying customers, imagine if you had paid money and experienced problems only to be disappointed by customer support.

So don't pay to play! Just enjoy the game without opening your wallet. That way, you won't get disappointed.
