In its context, Gekido was a decent game for the GBA, but as a port on PS4 its flaws are glaring and deterring. The first level alone sees you wandering back and forth from point A to point C, then back to point B before finally getting the key to point D, and this formula persists for most of the game.

The combat leaves a lot to be desired, which is worrying for a beat-em up game.

The combat leaves a lot to be desired, which is worrying for a beat-em up game. Enemies are very homogenous colour palette swaps with varying degrees of health and the occasional additional attack. However the most unforgivable element of the combat are the cheap enemies. Most enemies will attack you with such speed that it's near impossible to avoid, and Tetsuo is so slow that dodging is also near-impossible.

The atmosphere and graphics are impressive for their time, but again on a PS4 they are clearly from another age.

Overall, this really is a game to avoid unless you are somehow a big fan of it on GBA.

Absolute **** Horrific gameplay, invisible gaps in the floor. Limited move set. Badly animated. Repetitive music cues. And a tenner too!! Streets of rage 4 is currently £10 on sale - do yourself a favour and get that masterpiece instead!
