Each campaign offers enough of a twist on the core loop to keep things interesting, either with environmental effects such as a health-sapping chill in the air or otherwise by switching up the rules of engagement. Acquainting yourself with each class’s specialities, especially as you equip better weapons and unlock new abilities, is a treat as well. However, there’s little to recommend to those who are not already fans of the genre and eager to roll some dice. [Issue#164, p.90]

It's got elements of DND, and it's fun to level up the characters and collect items. The game does rely too much on RNG elements though as if you don't get good enough gear in your battles it will definitely affect your success in the final fights, and it seems like your enemies almost always get some dmg in or apply negative effects to your characters during battles. Like I think it would of been more fun if you rolled a dice since it's trying to be like tabletop games like DND.

A lot of the mechanics are NOT explained by the game, and it just makes it where the game assumes you know everything. There really needed a tutorial that explained a lot of the game mechanics, instead of you just sitting down and reading for several minutes or eventually figuring out what is going on. That is poor design and more time should of been spent on this by the developers. Also the final boss fight is total BS, unless you use BS mechanics to win, so for example if you have items or abilities that use the revert ability, it can keep shifting the boss back to the bottom of the order of turns. LIke it's great to win, but it feels somewhat cheap and it isn't as satisfying as defeating a well written boss, or like defeating the villain in a DND game with friends.

Overall, a good game with replayability

A captivating experience, I started the game up and didn't stop until i'd finished the first campaign, a great take on the table top genre.A captivating experience, I started the game up and didn't stop until i'd finished the first campaign, a great take on the table top genre.
The game's RNG can be extremely punishing at times but proper preparation will be always be rewarded and failure serves only to better your next attempt.
For the king really shines as a multiplayer game, couch co-op with 2 friends is clearly how it's meant to be played, if you host game nights or are just entertaining guests for a weekend for the king will certainly entertain.
