Does it have its moments when its fun? Sure. Its a majority of it annoying? Yes. This game is probably awesome if you have 3 friends, then you will destroy people pretty easily, but if youre solo you might as well quit now. Im not going to say i havent had my moments, and a majority of the time i end up on top, but i can see where this is going and its not pretty. Theres a lot of fun here but unfortunatly its just outweighed by the annoying things. If youre solo its comes down to this - youre fighting someone, one or two other players come and now its 3 on 1, they all start spamming heavy attacks, guard breaks, and unblockables. I can usually last until i get revenge buffs (an effort to balance out being outnumbered which adds attack and defence bonuses) but it doesnt help much. Unblockables and guard breaks are ok if its one on one, you just dodge, but in a situation like that you just cant keep track of it all. When things like this dont happen its a pretty fun game, but now that people are realizing they can get easy kills this way its happening all the time. You will be fighting and a faster class runs in and spams heavy attack for an execution. This also works the other way, you get a guy down 90% and your teammate runs in and steals the kill.

P2p servers are garbage too. You will be fighting and someone will drop and the whole game freezes to reconnect. That is if you dont get one of the many errors and get booted back to the home screen

Its not a totally bad game, just a lot of annoying things that make it money better spent on other game.

Oh, and if youre interested in the campaign save your money. Its pathetic. People who think its decent need to get out more. Its cheaply done and only lasts a few hours with almost no replay value. The character you play is set and the missions are linear. Let me put it this way, ive enjoyed battlefield campaigns more then this one and thats saying something.

Gameplay is fun and good customization, but the god awful servers make it pretty much unplayable. The P2P might be one of the worst things I have ever seen in a game and the gameplay ends up being an irrelevant point when you arent even able to play the game. In the rare chance you actually get a match going, the game will end up crapping out 9 times out of 10.

Ubisoft make something really new in game industry, some kind of mix fighting+moba+sims. All crying about steel purchase it's some kind of childish. Hope they roll new path soon to fix network bugs.

Rebooted again another issue players leave all bots , then i thought cant get any worse rite ? game freezes completely ?!? like come on is this still in BETA? i think so ubi.

Honestly I give the game a 6 but gave it a zero to counter fan-boys splooging on the title. Don't spend your money on this. Get Ubi to wake the f*ck up!

One of the things that truly infuriates me is that the game is 60$ on top of the fact the game offers micro transactions!! Which makes the game pay to win even though it is a skill based game in some cases a really bad player can easily drop 100$ for steel and get good gear that ups there damage to the extreme. Skip this game with it having micro transactions I can easily see it going Free 2 play. Also don't drop 60-80$ on this game do yourself a favor and go buy Chivalry its 25$ made in 2012 and its BETTER than this or play the free to play title War of Roses thats also BETTER than this and its F2P!!! lol But if you do enjoy this game have fun because I only see this game lasting 3-6 months. Something that feels all too rare in today's triple-A gaming scene. It's exciting approach to combat sets it apart from the pack and makes for one of most unique multiplayer experiences currently on the market. Although a few niggling issues are present here and there, this is a remarkably well-executed game.

It's the combat system that really makes For Honor so special. This isn't your average button-mashing action game. Juggling attacks from different directions and finding openings in your opponents strategy is a blast. It's so much deeper than one might initially expect. Taking the time to master all of the game's intricacies and discovering new ways to best your opponents is incredibly satisfying. While you'll find plenty of people online who are content to spam attacks and get lucky kills, skill is what will ultimately win the day. There's no feeling more rewarding than surviving an encounter against two or more players on the other team because you took the time to master the combat system.

The game does offer a single-player campaign. It consists of three chapters, each of which have six levels. Mostly, this mode just serves as kind of an extended tutorial if you will. It's not bad by any means, but multiplayer is definitely the heart of the experience. Those looking for a lengthy and satisfying offline experience should look elsewhere. The story mode is only worth a few hours of entertainment. The story itself is painfully uninteresting. Still, it has it's moments of fun.

This is a game where the more you play, the better you get. As you learn new strategies, you'll also be able to purchase new gear which modify your stats to your playstyle. Now this is by no means where the player(s) with the best gear dominate matches. Like I said, skill wins the day. Plus, every piece of gear I've seen thus far has come with trade-offs as well.

One notable sour patch in the multiplayer experience is that there are times where people will drop out of a match and you'll be left playing with or against bots. You still get the fun of the match, but it's nowhere near as satisfying as fighting against a real person. The bots honestly aren't that bright or tough. There are also the rare moments of lost connections. These matchmaking issues are rare, but nonetheless disappointing when they do show up.

So For Honor isn't perfect. It could use a better campaign, more modes and maps, and a few wrinkles ironed out. However at the end of the day the incredible combat system, depth, and all around originality make up for these faults. If you're looking for a fresh face to enter into your multiplayer rotation you'll be hard pressed to find a better option than For Honor. It rewards skill and patience like few other games out there right now, which makes it perfect for hardcore competition. Even if it ends up not being your cup of tea the game is at least deserving of a chance. Not only is it something genuinely new on the market, but just about everything it does, it does well.

The basic idea is fun, 1v1 can be challenging, but once you switch to 2v2 or 4v4 or dominion the dynamic completely change and it is a kind of noobfest.

Without considering that sometimes on 1v1 if you are against a character that is OP because of poor balancing, doesn't matter your skill. You just get destroyed and there is no competition vs an enemy that spam light attack or apply bleed to you making the 1v1 unfair instead of just challenging.

The game should have gone with the Overwatch model- full price game, rest of the content for free, pay for future content through optional visual micro-transactions. As a result the game feels like a semi-complete product used as a cash grab- which is sadly what many AAA games these days are.

The gameplay and graphics are excellent. It feels like Dark Souls PvP plus. However, without any reasonable amount of single player content and much of the multiplayer content delayed as "DLC" the game is not worth full price.

I may get it in a year when the game is bundled with the season pass for ~£20-30- that is if the game doesnt prove to be a short lived affair.. Before then? Don't waste your money.

When I say this I am referring to the secondary abilities. They do add some extra strategy to combat, but some of the abilities are insanely over powered.

Most of the maps feel like moba style maps. Three lanes that players hop between. Obviously more maps can always be added. Right now the variance just doesn't feel like enough. The duel mode is the purest form of the game and I can see it being the focus in competitive play. Brawl can get messy especially if either team seems determined to fight 2v1. This causes a lot of scrambling. Dominion or 4v4 can be an absolute mess a lot of the time. You will likely see packs of enemies running around the map. In this mode it is unwise to ever think you will have a 1v1 match up. You will likely always either have an advantage or disadvantage. None of this really lets the gameplay shine, but more so shows how the mechanics break down and become obsolete.

In the instances you do find yourself surrounded you can block attacks from people you are not lock onto and I'm sure someone who is a god at this game will post videos of them destroying people 1v4 on youtube, but for most people this will never happen. The revenge mode may make it possible to take on multiple people at once, but you can't rely on it to overcome the odds. The game is heavily skill based, which is good, but I also feel some of the mechanics need to be ironed out still. One thing I have found is that if an enemy starts a swing and you go to do a guard break, there is no collision on your guard break since they are not guarding and its as if you are standing there doing nothing. This leaves you wide open for attacks.

Now I understand it by name is a guard break, but hitting someone should be read as hitting someone and its affect should not be dependent on their current action. I feel this is valid because lets say you go to guard break someone and right as you hit the button they do a heavy attack. Your guard break lands long before the heavy attack, but because it doesn't work or do anything in the current build you take the full damage from their attack. In the very least it should stop their attack and you both start over.

Anyway that was me just pointing out a few things I think are holding this game back. I have enjoyed my time with it so far, but I really want to see it grow into more and have adjustments made to the combat. Its not a perfect game, but I think Ubisofts entry into the growing melee combat games is a strong and refreshing take that needs refinement. I won't say its the best one out there. Some of the other games actually make you feel like you are in a medieval battle. Other games have armor that matters in terms of weapons that are affective against them and archers which really change things up. For Honor offers less in a more arcade style game with small maps and combat that I feel has been done better. They are new and have time to improve, but right now they aren't the best entry. Still a fun game, but I have to question how strong the player base will be in a month unless improvements are made quickly,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far, this looks like a game with very high potential. The one thing that I noticed that troubled me was the rating. Being rated M seems a little excessive. The only real gore comes from the blood when you are hit and the "executions". The worst of these being an inferred decapitation for the Orochi character. Other than that, there is obviously the constant fighting in the game, but nothing really unreasonable. Me and my wife got it for my 13 year old on the 15th and he seems to love it. Of course, I played it first because he is 13 and the game is rated M, but from what I played it is basically rated T. It is a game that keeps the player active and aware at all times and actually requires some skill and strategy. Just make sure if you are a parent, and your kid plays the Orochi character, do not let them use the decapitation. It's nothing major, but you definitely know what is happening. 9/10 Expand

All the classes are distinct and balanced. I love the feeling that the characters and weapons have weight and momentum, and the gameplay is easy to pick up but very hard to master. P2P game hosting is not ideal, if the host drops you're pretty much paused until a new host can be established. This is my biggest complaint about the game. I think if Ubisoft maintains support for this title and doesn't put content behind a pay wall (Which they promised it wouldn't do.) For Honor could be a competitive multiplayer game with a good long life. Expand

But For Honor is not without it's problems. Primary the P2P multiplayer is beyond ridiculous in this day and age. I've lost count of the times I've been disconnected in-spite of my decent connection, died to someone I just executed or the match has paused or best of all I spawn already dead. Case in point I've played for three hours before writing this and only managed to complete three matches.

This is of course less pronounced in duel or brawl modes due to the smaller number of players but how fast you progress is tied to the modes with more players present granting more EXP at the end of a match. I suspect that a large part of this is due to the programming involved as I had few if any problems during the beta.

Matchmaking is frankly terrible with teams often being one person and some bots vs four players, and other times one side simply outclassing the other by a wide margin.

As for single player, it's simply tedious. there are very few check points so dying because of a mistake simply results in 15 minutes playing the same section you have already beaten, repeatedly until you either give up or power through. in the end i finished it on the 'hardest' difficulty by simply running past most of the enemies to fight the boss of the level who is itself only difficult because the UI is missing and it has it's health boosted to a ridiculous level.

In short the game is fun but isn't worth the asking price, there's only so many times you can get kicked from a game because the host has a bad connection before it becomes rage inducing. If they fix the P2P issue (how i don't know) then it would be an 8/10 it's a decent title but honestly could use some work and a lot of polish. As things stand, don't buy it.

To be clear, For Honor has a steep learning curve, but the skill ceiling is high enough to make the investment of your time and work well worth it.

The melee combat plays like a dream, the victory going to the most skilled player. I get the impression most players leaving bad reviews never took the time to use one of the games many practice modes to actually learn the moveset of their class, Learn your class, practice, and you will be rewarded. A lot of players get discouraged by 2v1 situations, but the game uses a "revenge mode" that activates in your favor if you are getting ganged up on. This buffs your HP and increases you damage, and really can even of odds if used properly. I'm about 30 hours deep in playtime, and I'm finally at the point were 2v1 situations are manageable for me, but this just comes with PRACTICE which is not something many players are willing to invest. Their loss.

For the dedicated player, For Honors combat is pure nirvana, and what fans of melee combat.

I am really kicking myself in the a$$ right now because I decided not to play the beta because I hate getting really into a game then for it to end in a day or two. The melee combat is some of the best I have EVER seen in the game. It seems to rely a whole lot more on the player's skill, and would take years to master. However, it is easily exploitable by players that would rather cheese their way through than actually fight. It is a giant spam fest. I have had several instances where I would play a one on one match for best out of five rounds, win the first round and the player will just quit the match. Granted, the quitting player is replaced by a bot, so you can still get the xp and stuff, but it feels cheap. The different classes are completely imbalanced. All I have to do when facing a somewhat big and strong enemy is pick the lighter assassin and just spam attack them. Even when their revenge mode is activated, as long as I keep attacking the enemy doesn't even get a chance for revenge. I gotta give Ubisoft some credit though. They tried making something completely new and unconventional. It's just a shame that the game that shipped just isn't really good. If Ubisoft can support it with patches and changes, I bet they could turn this game into a great one. The layout is there, and it definitely has it moments. I have been in a couple of fight with players that LOVE the game and it was a lot of fun. My heart was pumping and everything. Super intense. Those instances were few and far between. Kudos to the players that really love this game. Those types of players are building a community and really trying to make the best of For Honor, unfortunately they are outnumbered imo by the players that just cheese everything, and I really think those types of players will be responsible for this game's demise. I am loving For Honor, It punishes over aggressiveness and careless spam attacking. The skill cap increases every day as the player base gets more attuned to the combat system. I had some problems with Open NAT in beta where i was constantly kicked matches, Since the official release i have not been kicked and still have a type 3. For Honor is a great time

It gets aggravating in the beginning, yes. The learning curve for this game can be very irritating. What you have to account for, is that each and every character is COMPLETELY unique. They all have signature moves, though every single move is either dodge-able or blockable. This game is about learning movesets, as well as how other players play their characters. Timing is everything, and if you can get that down then it is rewarding. This is easily one of the best PvP fighting games out there. It is well balanced, and the fight mechanics are AMAZING. It can very easily get intense. Please, take the time to watch tutorial videos online and practice while learning movesets, and you will enjoy this game. If they manage this game well enough, as well as put effort into making this game great for its playerbase, then it might be the overall top PvP game for the next few years. I see it even being a MLG Tournament game.

The maps are aesthetically pleasing, as well as practical. You can use the environment to your advantage, which I highly suggest you do. The best way to play this game is to connect with other players and group up in a party so you have good communication going.

The fight mechanics are simple. You use the right analog stick to change your stance, and you attack from these three stances; up, left, and right, as well as defend from these stances by matching your opponent. There are light and heavy attacks, as well as chain combinations that you can land, some which lead to unblockable attacks that can be dodged. You can also grab and throw, which is "X" on the Xbox One. Each character has a unique moveset, and a specialty. A Warden, for example, is a balanced class that can attack fairly quickly as well as block quickly; while dealing moderate damage. The Lawbringer, however, is a defensive player as well as disabler that relies on blocking and parrying to gain momentum on foes. He is incredibly slow, but has great defense potential and deals good damage. Each character has their specialty definitions by their names, as well as their difficulty in learning them.

Pay attention to details. If you be patient, and take the time to learn the game, it is AMAZING. Most bad reviews are either about server errors (which will be worked on in the future), or complaints about the battle system. This DOES take skill. If you button mash, you will have a very quick and easy death. People who complain about the battle system are simply not patient enough to learn the movesets, and are not good enough to keep up with competitive players.

IT can be played in co-op or alone and is spread across 3 chapters.. One for each faction... the knights... Vikings... and samurai... and each chapter contains 6 missions and all end in an epic boss battle…
You even play as different characters with different fighting styles throughout the chapters..
I was surprised what I got with the campaign…
The story was interesting, as it deals with the art of war…
and the gameplay manages to feel fresh throughout most of the campaign...
You never really notice that you’re doing the same thing over and over... which is going checkpoint to checkpoint and killing everything in your way for xp…
This is very much a game for the aggressive type...
    No stalking your prey here
It is worth actively picking fights and searching the surrounding area and not just running to objectives because the game does have points of interests to give back story to your location.. They’re pretty well hidden though which is a shame because I loved listening to them as I fought… and it brought life to the level...
And killing enemies again gives you xp...
There’s a story level cap of 30 and as you level up you’ll unlock new perks like the ability to heal yourself or boost your damage or defense…
As well as pick up consumables throughout the level to use in combat to poison enemies, catch them on fire, heal your allies just to name a few
It doesn’t quite have a AAA campaign feel to it though…
It feels very much like an afterthought… but it still managed to put in a few surprising moments in there that I wasn’t expecting with the type of game this is...
I felt it was a great campaign... but far from amazing...
And I’m not sure if it’s the gameplays fault or the setting, but during chapter 3 as the samurai, all interest in the story disappeared… the game started to feel repetitive, the level and mission design started to feel lazy and I was ready to just hop into the competitive modes…
But I still definitely recommend playing through the campaign first..
Dealing with Ai enemies programmed specifically to act certain ways in combat will teach you all sorts of tricks for dealing with human enemies... and it takes the combat system deeper than the tutorial does putting you way ahead of the competition as at this moment only about 4% of players beat the story..
You’ll learn how to deal with annoying blockers, light attack or heavy attack spammers... as well as use combos and easily be able to handle groups of enemies…
The Actual Multiplayer is pretty great too for a while..
When the game starts you choose a faction but you can still use any and every character...
The faction is just the team you’re on fighting to take control of the map...
    It does reset every month…
And there are tons of customizable options to make your characters feel like yours...
And much like the story mode you unlock feats here as well, which act like perks as you level up
There are currently 5 different competitive modes..
Dominion which is a 4v4 capture and hold game, skirmish and elimination which are 4vf4 team death match games, and finally 1v1 duel, and 2v2 brawl
unfortunately Dominion and skirmish are really the only 2 modes worth playing…
The game does an awful job at distributing teammates evenly and fairly…
But these 2 modes are where this matters the absolute least…
    In Elimination, duel, and brawl...
This is where the flaws and imbalances of the game and its characters start to show…
Some characters have spammable and unlockable attacks that put you on your back or leave you defenseless…
And online players feel no shame in doing this to secure a win…
The fact that there are so many unlockable moves really ruins these modes…
especially when they can mean instadeath near a ledge in a duel…
    These modes ultimately feel cheap…
There ultimately isn’t enough in For Honor to keep people playing for months…
The game is hard to pick up and unlockable spam attacks ruin player encounters..
But it’s still a great game... at least for a little while…
    I give For Honor
    an 8/10

The problem is: nobody has honor in this damn game! 1v1 fights turn into 2v1 or 3v1 more than half of the time. I have yet to win an outnumbered fight, but I hear it's possible. I also don't like it when I'm on the winning end. I hate trying to fairly win a 1v1 fight, especially if I come back from behind, then a teammate comes and stabs them -- I want to earn my win. With that said, it is kind of satisfying to almost win a 2v1; I just wish thy only happened rarely. I don't mind them as much in Dominion or Skirmish because there are respawns.

The complaints about the campaign are silly. I wasn't expecting much at all from single player; we know this is a multiplayer first game. I only just started the campaign and I'm finding it to be pleasantly surprising. They could've skipped it entirely. Just don't expect much and you will enjoy what is there. Don't forget: this not a campaign game, so don't buy it for that.

For Honor is a bit light on content, but it has unbelievable replayability as a competitive multiplayer game. The 12 characters are very different and extremely balanced. I once thought Nobushi was OP, but truthfully, you can do well and win with any character. I can dominate with the hulking Shugoki as well as the Peacekeeper, it all depends on my opponent. I can switch characters to keep things fresh whenever I feel bored, because each character feels completely different. My main complaint is that the game can feel boring and repetitive after a while (because of the somewhat bland Dominion mode and outnumbered fights). However, after considering how many hours I got just out of the beta, I thought about it again and feel that it's well worth it. I've already gotten 25 hours out of the game and I've paid $60 for games that I only got 12 or so hours out of and been perfectly happy with that. So, I think people should consider that when judging the lack of content. Plus, this is a game I KNOW I will always come back to even if I do get bored every so often. With new characters and maps (btw, the map criticism is ridiculous. The full map set available in the finished build of the game are great) coming every few months, this game will remain fresh for quite a while. I'm really excited to see what weapons they will bring to the game in the future!

If you like competitive multiplayer games, especially ones with fighting game concepts, then I would give this a shot. The fighting is slow, deliberate, and strategic -- it feels like real sword fighting. As much as I love Nioh and Dark Souls, this feels more true to real life. Also, if you like the idea of competitive FPS games like COD but aren't good at twitch shooters, then I would also recommend this game to you. I like some FPS games but I'm terrible about them so they don't end up being as fun for me. For Honor is something that I can actually compete in, and it always feels fair when you lose a 1v1 fight (unless you get thrown off a ledge, but you can do that too).

Matchmaking is inconsistent and buggy. Peer to peer is certainly less preferable than dedicated servers.

Character balancing is still an issue. Some are just too relatively weak [at the time of writing this] (Lawbringer) and others a tad too strong (Warden/Valkyrie). I wouldn’t consider any particular character to be outright broken, but tweaks to them here and there (general damage buffs/reductions, making minor changes to combos) might help balance the playing field for the better.

I think I might enjoy an occasionally larger map in modes like Dominion. Worthwhile combat filler (perhaps boss spawns that drop unique weapons) could help bigger map sizes feel less empty (considering killing small foot soldiers is, in my opinion, fairly unsatisfying).

The camera can behave awkwardly at times (notable when fighting multiple enemies at once).

Insta-death environmental kills often don’t look or feel cool and are an unnecessarily cheesy (and pseudo- exploitable) combat tactic. I might not mind them so much if there were fewer maps that had large portions specifically tailored to them.

In the current design, the ability to flee (especially in Elimination mode) is a bit of a problem. An entire team of four chasing after a single enemy continuously sprinting to various buffs in a futile attempt to revive their only non-executed comrade only to get cornered and die 2 minutes later simply feels like a waste of time. Strategically guarding bodies or stealthily reviving a teammate for an epic comeback is one thing, but that window of opportunity should be lowered in my opinion.

The A.I. is all too frequently laughably useless.

The U.I. (particularly in the menus) is a bit visually eclectic.

The sounds, and in particular the soundtrack (i.e. the constant tribal drumbeat), are a bit underwhelming. Echoing battle cries, epic death screams, minion grunts, and the ambient sound of war could be amped up.

Graphics are solid with minor fps hiccups here and there, though nothing too captivating aesthetically.

Character customization is sweet (though a few other fighting games go even more in-depth in that regard).

Not a fan of the “steel” micro transaction system (chiefly considering gear stats).

There is a decently high skill ceiling already (which is absolutely fantastic), and it strongly determines the outcome of a match. However, it is still a bit lower compared to many other popular fighting games.

For all intents and purposes, this game plays like a fighting game within a relatively larger arena alongside trivial background noise (i.e. borderline meaningless infantry battles). Allowing for players to gang up on one another is intended to be balanced by the “revenge” mechanic (and pulling out a win as the underdog in those situations feels great), but that and the fairly unique combat system itself are not quite compelling enough features to really make this game stand out overall compared to other mainstream fighting games. In fact, compared to those games, the lack of maps, modes, unique aesthetic, and characters makes me wonder if the bits that are supposed to make this game exceptional are really worth the AAA price. Coupled with the issues I noted earlier, they just aren’t enough (unless someone is a real diehard fan of both fighting and medieval games). I do think this game has potential to be good, but, as of right now, not much else.

It's unfortunate because it shows promise but the lack of hero diversity and game modes wears thin pretty quickly. Classes are really unbalanced which is even more obvious when the lag from not having any dedicated servers kicks in. Single Player get's boring really quickly and the rewards don't seem worth it. Gear seems to do nothing but customise your character slightly which is good but doesn't seem worth the effort.

Can guarentee even the people giving it 10 won't be playing it in a months time.

In that sense, they struck gold. Combat is weighty and controls are tight, you FEEL like a warrior scouring the battlefield in search of challenge. The core mechanics are simple in nature, but hard to master, and there is quite a bit of customization (both aesthetic and stat-boosting) so you can round your warrior out with a style that fits you.

I sunk a lot of time into Alpha and Beta, and I can say they have polished this game quite nicely. The largest issue by far was the pier to pier servers, which were buggy at best during peak times throughout the Beta. They have been reworked and now run MUCH smoother. Not nearly as many issues with frame-rate dropping either, another problem that had formally plagued the title.

So what keeps it from greatness? Well, unfortunately while the game is a FAR cry from being a "pay-to-win" there is a considerable emphasis on micro-transactions and earning "steel" (the game currency for upgrading) is a horrifically slow trudge. The game will coax you to make it easier by offering "champion status" for a pre-determined amount of time, however that too costs a hefty amount of steel, so it ends up being somewhat of a double edged sword (no pun intended).

The game manages to do a few things amazingly well, and it doesn't do much terrible (music is passable, but sound effects are great), but so much falls into the "average" end of the spectrum that in order to truly appreciate the game for what it is you will need to be okay with decent (not spectacular) sound and graphics.

One last little gripe, the menu system is hot garbage. I applaud Ubisoft for adding so much depth this time around, its the kind of thing I was expecting to see in The Division but somehow found its way into For Honor instead. It is a mess, with three sub-menus all looking/feeling like a main menu, and so many offshoots and options that you will easily spend 30 minutes to an hour just sifting through it all.

Overall For Honor manages to feel fairly fresh in an otherwise slowly staling multiplayer market, and with not much else to sink your teeth into this year (Friday the 13th looks fun), For Honor is a good bet to satisfy your craving for PvP perfection. 8/10

However. This game is far from perfect. A mix of bugs and lag can ruin an otherwise great match/fight. There have been multiple times that I suddenly lost a fight because my blocking inputs suddenly stopped counting somehow. There have also been times when I dueled someone and watched as their stamina didn't drain at all, while mine was quickly emptied by blocking. Why and how, I can't say, but then in the next match that person's stamina would drain normally like it should. Odd bug, and I'd seen it since the betas. Also a suite of the usual bugs - wall clipping, falling through the ground/launching into the cosmos, etc.
Matchmaking is bad. There have been multiple times I've seen a game start and one team is all rank 1-4 and the other team is all 20+. While I realize this is a skill-based concept so that ranks shouldn't matter quite as much as in other games, it's still a matter of a team of very experienced players vs a team that isn't. And it happens often.
Multiplayer connections are garbage. I get dropped from 1 in 3 matches because of some connection errors, and on top of that, half of the time that happens, it also bugs out matchmaking somehow so that I'm unable to match-make again without restarting the game. Again, that's pretty bad for a game whose main selling point is clearly the multiplayer.
Lastly, the maps and modes are pretty bland. There isn't a great deal of variety in maps, and the game modes are frankly boring pretty quick. I'm also disappointed that it's only 4v4. Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that people love to cheese it up and try ganging up on people rather than fight honorably, but still, only 8 players seems pretty tame, considering there are multiplayer 64-man games out there. This is especially true when you consider that the game makes a lot of emphasis on the fact that there are three (3) competing factions. I felt very disappointed there wasn't at least a 4v4v4 mode. Why there isn't any form of 3-way matches in the game with this setup really boggles me.
Bonus round: this game uses cash-grab mechanics which always feels a little insulting to me. Just paid out $60 for your game and one of the first things you want me to know when I boot it up is that I can pay you more money to get more out of the game? Not impressed.

It's fresh, and it's definitely fun at times, but frankly, I'd wait until you see this game go on sale if you're interested in playing it. It's skill-based, so even if you're joining the game late you'll have a better chance than usual of being competitive against the more experienced players, so this makes it a multiplayer game that's better for buying and playing late than most. And by the time it goes on sale, hopefully a lot of the bugs and matchmaking issues will be resolved, and maybe even 1 or 2 new character types will have been released.

The combat here is absolutely flawless. Its resemblance to Dark Souls is undeniable, which involves strategy, spacing, combos, perry, counters, and more (you can say it borrows from fighting games too). It has a deep and complex system that makes you pay attention to everything you do and prevents you -technically- to just spam one button. It offers 3 factions each with 4 warriors, so far. A balanced, a strong, an agile and a kinda hybrid class. All of them with a different playstyle. You choose your strategy. It has a lot of modes, including Dominion, Duels, Team DeathMatch, etc. It's an ideal game to play with friends.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a deep, complex combat, in a game that is beautifully designed with outstanding graphics and has a lot of content and even a campaign , don't miss For Honor.

The game itself is beautiful. Has weather effects. Runs at near steady 60FPS on extreme( i'm on PC ). There is a steep learning curve in this game. I would say based on me and my friends playing Alpha/Beta/Release that 5 to 10 hours is needed and all the practice videos should be watched.

Content is severely lacking currently. The campaign while neat, is a glorified and really well done spin on the standard Tutorial.

Please understand, as I am reading so many negative reviews, that this is NOT a button masher. This is pure calculated combat. Is there ganking??? Yes but it isn't effective because 4v1 means 3 others are capturing points.

Yeah, the most insane aspect of it all is the P2P multiplayer on a game, where reaction time should determine the outcome of a duel. Sheesh....

It's amazing that the devs explained in one of the tutorial videos "how to win 2v1", while they obviously designed the game mechanics only to really work in duels. There really is nothing more frustrating in this game than trying to switch targets, which is amazing considering that the whole game is frustrating.

Besides the above, the maps are small, unimaginative, and quite frankly boring.

It'll be a decent purchase during summer sales, but otherwise, I'd advice everyone to save their money for some of the more promising AAA titles coming out in a month or so.

Right so i dont feel the right to score this game because i dont have the full copy but i did play the Beta (open for the weekend before its release) every hour it was open so i do have lots of experience with the games mechanics, to clear one fact up that many people are moaning about, the combat in this game is IMMACULATE, i mean like its very very very good, coming from a avid fightingRight so i dont feel the right to score this game because i dont have the full copy but i did play the Beta (open for the weekend before its release) every hour it was open so i do have lots of experience with the games mechanics, to clear one fact up that many people are moaning about, the combat in this game is IMMACULATE, i mean like its very very very good, coming from a avid fighting game enthusiast, its fresh new and exiting and is a HUGE breath of fresh air in this day and age. the games setting, atmosphere, character/armour designs, animations.... all AMAZING near perfect in fact, and the graphics are amazing to boot... from what i can tell i can say... Do you like fighting games? If Yes- Buy this you will get the most out of it all the classes are fun and unique each one is literally like a different character and you can spend forever learning tips and tactics with each, If you dont like fighting games, it may still be for you but be wary, from what i can tell, at the moment the games features might be lacking a bit, and while the setting and atmosphere may carry you, this is STILL essentially a fighting game at its core and you have to spend time to learn it, rather than go in and get pissed off when people who know how to play fighting games kill you again and again, you cant mash your way though it online, you have to think and be clever, on the good side though, its not remarkably complicated, its very simple in fact so spend the couple of hours to learn how to do things like safely approach and parry, and properly defend and punish and this game could teach you the fundamentals of any fighting game.... In conclusion i feel like this game suffers maybe from the Street Fighter V problem (though nowhere near as severe) where, Combat... 10/10, Setting/Atmosphere/Graphics 10/10, Features.... probably more around a 5/10 (street fighter v would have been a 2/10)... Its a superb game, i already know it is, but if you're looking for the single player experience, dont bother, looking for great online play thats nothing like anything else on the market... buy now, or maybe wait a bit for a price drop or a nice meaty update that perhaps adds something special... i dont feel like i can give a score because i dont own the full game but just considering its something new and exiting the devs alone need something in the green for branching out and making something DIFFERENT Expand

You can't only give this game an hour of your time and make judgement. It's NOT a hack and slash.
Those who have had the honor to play Bushido Blade back in the day will instantly love this game. I've been waiting for a spiritual successor to Bushido Blade AND THIS IS IT!
Giving it a 10 as people are putting 0's because of the idea of Peer2Peer networking or basing their judgments on the BETA or "The controls are clunky because I have the attention span of a goldfish". The controls are perfect, the networking is absolutely fine, and the gameplay is refreshing!

Amazing PvP game with an "Esport aim". Yes, this game is for competitive play, not just for those who wants to have instant fun out of the box. You should learn timings and numbers to win rounds here. As for me, this game is a mix of fighting and moba genres. It looks quite fresh and it will take the spot in hardcore PvP games lineup for sure.

The gameplay is fantastic due to its innovative combat system which is easy to understand but hard to master completely and that is the base of every great e-sport game.

The 4 vs 4 multiplayer modes are more like Hack n slash games while the 1 vs 1 is a complete different game fitted for e-sport.

To sum up, I'd say if you are a competitive gamer it is a really good game. For most casual multi-player players, it is also a really fun and refreshing game in all of the modes. But once again, if you are a solo gamer interested in campaigns it's not a game for you.

There are few things that developers should add. Which is a RANKED LADDER System... With a divisions like in other games... I mean OMG WHY ITS NOT HERE ALREADY? Atleast for 1V1... Other thing is the menu is quite strange... And connecting to the next game you need to press atleast 4 buttons... I don 't see why there is not an option to "PLAY AGAIN" Like in any other arena multiplayer game...

FYI Apollyon, is a OP beast at the end and I'm dreading my next meeting with her on Realistic Mode.

Didn't really spend much time on MP but did come first on my first game of Elimination (I had some experience playing the Closed and Open Betas).

The one reason that I wrote this review apart from thoroughly enjoying this game is to correct the 0s and low scores this game is getting.

1st off it is not repetitive, I sure hope the ppl saying this aren't playing Overwatch cos that's fkn repetitive and doesn't even HAVE a Single Story campaign.

2nd is a constant internet connection, we live in an age of technology so don't give it a fkn 0 just because you have **** internet. It's written on the front cover, Game Stop / EB games are obligated to tell you about it so don't have a whinge and get your self a decent ISP.

3rd is the balancing. It's still early days and I'm sure Ubisoft will release updates to tweak some heroes but so far I found it to be OK. I get the odd messages as I use the Viking Raider as my main and they b i t c h about me pushing them off the cliff. Here's a tip, don't hang around a bridge edge when fighting a Raider, you're gonna have a bad time. P.S Git Gud. There are heroes to counter heroes, button mashers can go home and stick to Dynasty Warriors because you'll get totally wrecked in this game.

Can't wait for the DLC to come, think I'll wait til that Season pass drops for me to purchase (if they) do as I heard they will be releasing 6 more heroes. Only good things ahead and improvements as well. Go team Viking!!

The only thing about For Honor that was decent was the viking based setting, but the execution of it f***ed that up, focusing only on "fight fight fight" and wasting a great and underused template.

Simple disclaimer here. With the game's current balancing, I think anyone who is interested in FH for its "deep combat" should be warned that the high-level gameplay is reduced to something that is even less than rock, paper, scissors. Everything can be reacted to, which makes perfect defense entirely possible and ruins the experience for me and many other players. Perfect defenseSimple disclaimer here. Everything can be reacted to, which makes perfect defense entirely possible and ruins the experience for me and many other players. Perfect defense should never be humanly possible in a fighting game and until they fix this issue, there will be no true mind-games or anything like them in FH. Most characters will remain useless without any sort of actual 50/50, new maps will add nothing and the playerbase will dwindle rapidly as they get bored of facing off against reactive players.

This has happened to many games before and it could easily happen to FH. But if they fixed the perfect defense issue, I would still probably only give the game a 4, because there is not even the bare minimum of what would be needed for a competitive PvP game and the single player "content" (aka extended tutorial) is trash. Nice and scummy microtransactions, as well. Very generous of Ubi to sneak those into their game by saying "it's just cosmetic" when player customization is literally the only progression content available.

Highly disappointing game. I would say avoid at all costs unless it's on sale for like $20 and you have a group of friends who all want to play a party melee brawl type of game together for a weekend. Asking for anything beyond that from this game is far too much.

There's a steep learning curve but once you get it, you'll be executing Knights, Vikings, and Samurai with ease. There's lots of videos on combat and on the basic and advanced moves for each character. I'd recommend playing everyone at least once, and then choosing your favorite to focus on and level up. It's also beneficial to practice blocking and attacking if you have a friend in custom match. You can change the settings so that you both receive ieve less damage so that you can practice longer without dying. Also save your steel on scavenging gear till you at least get to Reputation 1. The rarity of the items you get from the chest depends on each characters level so buying them early for level 1 gear is just a waste. Story mode isn't very deep but can be a fun break from multiplayer. It can be coop as well so you can play with a friend. There are some issues with the game though, which are the currency and connection. Currency in the form of Steel can be bought with with real money which then can be used to buy a range of things, but the main issues come from maxing out your characters feats with some steel and things that give an extreme unfair advantage. For the connection issues, I would say if you ever played Rainbow 6 Siege then you'll be used to connection problems. Sometimes you'll connect to a game within 30 seconds, others times minutes will go by without a single teammate. Perhaps this will get better in time, but when the game does connect it's very fun. Although people will complain that enemies will run away instead of fighting to the death when their losing, that's just part of warfare. That's a strategy you should be aware of that they might use, and should try to corner them into a wall to cut off their escape. There's a counter to everything in this game if you just have the patience to learn it. If you enjoy highly skill and competitive based game, that takes a little bit of work to get, but has a high payout then I'd highly recommend For Honor. Expand

The game's "simplicity" is its selling point. I'm proud that finally there was a game where you can't simply out level the characters you face. The fights actually require some form of strategy and patience. Rather than just going in gun's blazing (or in this case melee weapons swinging), 1 on 1 encounters are actually equal and you have a 50/50 chance.

Problem with the game is they meant well with things like the capture the flag, but it doesn't really work. The 4v4 can be very addicting and honestly realistic. No more of the "one man army" syndrome with games. If 3 guys face you, you are going to lose more than likely unless you have a slick plan. The problem I had was I think it was too limited in its core design and the conquering of certain areas is convoluted at best.

Honestly I enjoyed the beta. I think people who have a problem with it are people who like to play as fast as possible (FPS fans) and don't like to take the time to have a strategy or out think their opponent. It is truly a unique experience.

These are all things that could be improved with time and patches, but given Ubisoft Montreal's history with The Division and Assassin's Creed it's entirely likely that it won't ever be changed at all.

As for combat the game truly shines as unique and engaging, though frustrating moments happen in droves when the game flexes its odd prioritizing/negating of certain attacks. Situations like your grab animations feebly whiffing as even long, heavy overhead swings begin and end with your character inside of your target occur frequently either due to random bursts of lag or poor balancing.

If you enjoy reactive and fast gameplay then you might be at home here, but you're probably in for a lot of headaches before you get comfortable.

This game is so addictive in so many ways. The single player campaign is good...the multiplayer is outstanding...and i usually hate multiplayer! I've been playing games since the mid 80's and this is the best medieval style 'fighting' I have experienced. If you have ever wanted to play a medieval based combat game, this is the one. I will say this, the closed alpha, in terms of balance and gear attributes/specs, was the best out of the three. It's annoying that my blade dictates my defensive stats. Why would the blade of my warrior indicate how much damage he takes when he is hit? On the closed alpha, it was the breast piece, the chest mantle that dictated defense.
