I respect that newer entries in the series need to change to accommodate to a changing audience.Yet, in spite of programming marvels in this new era of technology, I feel the gameplay has been dumbed down too much. I'm not joking, you can hold down the circle button and just keep attacking until you win. It feels more like a spinoff game than a mainline Final Fantasy game. In the open-world, there are many collectables and such, but they too get boring quite quickly.

I really liked the risks that they took with this game, such as having a car to travel across the map. It's really unique and does make FFXV feel like one-of-a-kind. Yet, I feel like they took it too far. They turned the game into another typical open-world RPG. Although many sidequests are "fetch" quests, some sidequests actually have a great amount of detail, and most if not all of the lines are fully voiced.

But be wary, there are many recycled dungeons and areas for the sidequests. There is a lot of optional content in the open-world map, but not all of it is necessarily fun. The currency in the game, gil, is actually difficult to come by - you're actually forced to do repetitive hunts to get more gil.

I honestly liked the hunts in FFXII and FFXIII better - in this game you need to drive your car (or let a character drive it) and wait 5-10 minutes to get across the map, kill the bounty monster, then another 5-10 minutes to get the reward. It gets repetitive very quickly, and instantaneous travel is only allowed for certain missions and destinations - I couldn't find a way to get all destinations to be instantaneous.

You can get a supercharger for your vehicle for faster transportation across the map, but it that quest line takes 3-4 quests first and you need to be level 20-25 or so to defeat that enemy, as well as be past a certain part of the main quest.

The plot is atrocious and poorly executed. I will always suspend by disbelief when I play games and I love it when a title has good lore. I really do like the kingdoms and lore established in this game, and I have watched both the accompanying anime series and Kingsglaive movie. I don't particularly like the fact that this game puts scenes from Kingsglaive into some of the cutscenes and I don't like the fact that they're trying to make FFXV a series rather than a standalone title.

No spoilers, but the second-half of this game really takes a nosedive. I've watched Evangelion and I've played Xenogears, so I've seen some pretty unconventional second-halves. This game's second-half feels very rushed and disappointing to play. For example, many character deaths are off-screen.

Most of the big bosses in this game are quick-time events (QTE's). I understand that the developers wanted to show off the graphics and make the game feel cinematic, but the gameplay is just horrible and boring. In this game you'll be fighting some big summons just like in other Final Fantasy games, but the fights themselves feel so gimmicky and "press circle to win".

No, I don't want difficult battles, and I know that the majority of the players need to be able to beat the game - but I'd rather just have a regular fight, not some QTE mash-up nonsense. There's a really awful water battle that likes to throw all rules out of the window and has you hop-scotching across rocks while fighting.

I will also mention technical issues present in the game. I have an original PS4 and I notice that the game has many hang-ups and framerate issues. I just want it to be consistent and I noticed on many occasions during battle with multiple enemies that the framerate would fluctuate considerably. I also noticed a great amount of texture pop-in, in other words, travelling too fast will load lower-resolution textures into the game, which take two or three seconds to be turned into a regular-resolution texture. On several occasions of the last 50 or so hours I've played, the game will stop loading and have a black screen freeze.

I cannot afford to purchase a new version of a console every year for a single new game release - the game itself costs almost a half or third of a console itself nowadays. I'm extremely unhappy with how poorly-optimized the game is for a regular PS4. I'm not running it on any fancy settings, I'm just doing the standard 1080p resolution, yet I face so many glaring technical issues that should've been addressed. The developers should've made the graphics lower quality by default, then add a special graphics option for those who have the fancier new version of the console.

I'd say wait for the price to drop before purchasing. I cannot ignore the many flaws present in this title. The underwhelming sales will surely make the publisher of this game reluctant in investing money into another title of this kind.

Please SE cancel FF7R I dont want you ruining that title aswell. And honestly chapter 13....wth were you guys thinking! FFS now port FF9 to the ps4 with trophies so at least I have something decent to play...

The Graphics are the best part of this remake. It doesn't feel like the original, you only get a small portion of the original game for full price and stretched with boring fillerquests to make it feel longer... Feels like a very good demo, but not something yoy are supposed to pay for.

Played more hours on the game. It further confirms the story to be one of the worst of the FFseries.

For anyone that's just into pretty graphics and Korean boy-band (or perhaps japanese night clubs like Conan O'brien said), this can be attracting I guess. The combat system is not bad. But that're the only good things about the game. Graphics and a somewhat novel fighting system.

The story's rigid cast (only controlling Noctis?????) is just dull, like ff13-LR dull.

Magic needed to be gathered? Crappy summons? You bet.

I guess those the people give it 10 must be paid or just die-hard korean boy band fans. I first rated it as 4, but to balance the ocean of paid reviews, 2 this time. Plus the fact it gets more on my nerves the more I played it.

This is easily the worst FF game in the series. The story is told entirely through flashbacks and there is no compelling intro, so you are thrown into the world with 4 random dudes and you have no idea why they are even friends. With all the hate FF13 got, this story makes FF13 look like a masterpiece.

That's only the beginning. There is nothing in this game to actually connect it to

With all the hate FF13 got, this story makes FF13 look like a masterpiece.

That's only the beginning. There is nothing in this game to actually connect it to Final Fantasy other than the names of things and a few items thrown in. It's like they took a completely random game and slapped the FF name on it. They have totally abandoned the FF artistic style in favor of realism. The characters play on their cell phones when they are bored and there is even a quest that is an advertisement for real-life brand Cup Noodles. I'm not making this up.

Combat. I've played the game for almost 8 hours and I have won 95% of the fights by holding down the circle button. Magic is so cumbersome to use, it might as well not even be in the game. This is a kiddie-action sword fighting game. There is so much going on during battles that it's mostly a blur. You will kill 5 enemies by holding down circle, then realize there are two more enemies off camera only because automatic targeting moved to them. It's ok though, because all you need to do is press circle to win.

There is not enough space here to go over all of the flaws. This is not a Final Fantasy game. It's obvious why they called it final fantasy though, because the game could not stand on it's own.

In January I gave this game a 4/10 for some things but after looking at the positive reviews of the User Score I see that people need to think better of why this game is the Biggest disappointment in Final Fantasy History

Gameplay/Combat: The gameplay of FFXV has become more watered down (and its crazy these are the guys who did the gameplay combat for KH1 and 2) having to only press square or hold to dodge and block and Circle to attack and X to warp strike is fun at first but then doing it over and over again is quite boring especially when the game packs you with Healing items a lot also the enemies mainly stand there and attack randomly also it lack indepth and strategy compared to older FF's 90% of the time even bosses sure there are different weapons you can use in combat but very few are situational. Having team mates to help you is quite random sometimes they help and sometimes they don't , but in our Experience they die 98% of the time MAINLY against bosses with either higher level or lower level (and also to mention that the leveling system is unbalanced with low level enemies can still wreck you at a ton of damage even at LV 99 which is not good balancing) MP or Magic is not what it used to be MP is replaced with your warp strike which is exploitable (you can get up to 200mp Warp strike uses 5-10mp than any other ARPG there are 3 Magic Fire, Lightning, and Ice which are not very good crafting them is such a grind and there are barley any enemies that are weak to magic just use weapons with the magic element overall magic is pretty poor even you're team abilities are better and not having to control you're party member until DLC is a painful attempt to expand their game season pass is 30$ it almost feels like SFV again.

Story/Characters: The story of Final Fantasy 15 is the shortest and weakest up to date continuing the downside of FF13 it suffers a Kingdom Hearts Syndrome where you are force to watch the Anime brotherhood and the movie Kingslieve in order to know what's going on like in KH you have to play all the spinoffs to tie the story of KH together. The characters are likeable at first but you can easily tell that they try too hard for you to get attached to the 4 men Noctis,Promto,Ignis, and Galdius where they have little to no back story of how they meet each other (It was never seen in brotherhood) nor did they grew as the story progress PLZ Tales of Berseria (though I wasn't super hyped and had good graphics) had a much better story and character development between Velvet and her party members about how they help her get revenge on Artorious and how Velvet and the others have to face the truths and betrayls and challenges in their hard lifes while still not giving up on each other they may not be Heroe's but it was still awesome that's the development FFXV is missing the Character Development is bland in here they act a bit EMO on the train cutscenes. The Story can be completed in less than 20 hours wow Square congrats

Content: Usually RPG's would have unique content here in there but in FFXV case its not FFXV has nothing but fetch quest worst than Lightning returns at east in that game there was some fun and character development with side characters only here its basically go get some forgs meet the science lady again pick up some frogs meet her again then pick ups some more frogs ok that can't be too bad oh meet a guy and he tells you pick up some dog tags... :o ok get some repair kits to help people stuck on the road get potions to help injured people it gets repetitive over time. This is why I prefer the Yakuza series with its side content at least you can have fun make a laugh and have emotions to the people you help in the city better than go collect things just because... OPEN World is barren meaning there aren't much citys and the gas stations look pretty much the same and its mostly empty.

Final Verdict: Compared to FFIX that I played and liked before FFXV came out and the 2,003 users and counting praising this game and saying that this is a masterpiece and GOTY should do better research and look what Final Fantasy truly is and not be a fanboy I give FFXV a 2/10 with the cheap DLC packs in order to save this broken glitch mess of the game I think Tabata should learn better and so does the SE defense force you know who they are.

Final Fantasy continues to lose any magic it ever had with the latest entry. "A FF for first timers and fans alike" interpreted means, "Not a game for FF fans". "A FF for first timers and fans alike" interpreted means, "Not a game for FF fans". IMO, FF lost what made it FF when Squaresoft became SE, and FF15 is a continuation of this. It has a bland, empty, illogical world that mixes 1950s automobiles, blues music, camper trailers, and gas stations with antique gas pumps (all things associated with this world not a fantasy world) with space age technology. This, among a multitude of other examples, makes no sense. For an "open world" game, it has a hauntingly linear feel to it. The "dungeons" are mostly linear hallways with a "go from point A to point B" design in them. There is nothing about them that is outstanding, creative, or pulls the player into a mesmerizing world. The voice acting is obnoxious and horrible. From stereotyping Southern accents and dumb phrases like, "varmints", to cringe worthy Italian stereotypes like, "you'se guys" and "bada bing- bada boom", etc. it is a chore to sit through. What's more, like in the case of the teenage kid with blond hair and blue eyes who has the voice of a middle aged Italian guy, it isn't even remotely believable or accurate. We also have a "crystal crashed into the middle of the world" thing going on again. Because we didn't get enough of that with 3 FF titles that were arguably the worst of all FF games. Rinse and repeat theme and boring. The world environment is not impressive graphically at all. Compare to a game like MGS5, or even FF14, and it is bland and basic.

While I love the classic characters associated with FF (behemoths, iron giants, bombs, etc.) the constant, cookie cutter recycling of these enemies, and their being the majority of the bestiary, is a sign of creative deficiency. At least give a creative twist on these enemies that binds them to a unique story world, makes them slightly different, and make them a minority if they are to be constantly included.

The battle system is horrible. It's very dumbed down from the classic turn based FF even with wait mode. Magic is a constant chore to obtain, create, equip, and use. The camera and lock on features are obnoxious and burdensome. At least in FF12 with the gambit system there was control over the whole party and you could switch characters depending on the scenario. In this one, constant pause for menu re-arranging and equip changes are needed to respond to enemy weaknesses.

I fail to see years worth of creative design and fine tuning in any way with this title. I've had to save and reload several times because I was unable to get the "X" (PS4 interact button) to function properly. And no, I'm not talking about the constant "X" for "pick up" or "quest" that inevitably turns into "jump in place" 3 or 4 times before he actually picks something up or initiates a quest. I'm talking about a pure glitch that required a restart and wait for the super long re-load time. Also, who at SE was under the impression that sitting in a car waiting to arrive somewhere is fun? Or pumping gas? It is not. Who was under the impression that being constantly nagged by an NPC to pose for, or take, screen shots of game play was fun? It is not. What about having to sit through constant mini cut scenes just to apply experience points? Or being forced as much as possible to be dependent on constant food recipes? Again, not fun.

I could go on but will say that I'm grateful my memory goes far enough back to appreciate the amazing FF games such as FF6 and other great Squaresoft titles like Secret of Mana and Chronotrigger. SE games have borrowed from the legacy of these gems but fails to deliver anything more than an occasional honorable mention at best, and FF15 does not even merit an honorable mention in the series.

Ultimately a flat, uninspiring button basher without the story depth you once expected from Final Fantasies of the PS1 era.

There is no need to explore the battle/magic system, the whole game could be completed without opening either menu option, and nothing would be lost in doing so.

And really, making mandatory to watch both Kingsglaive and Brotherhood so you have the background of the MAIN STORY of a JRPG? Look, those works are supposed to EXPAND the in-game story, not being the **** main source. And the very fact they're patching the plot, you know, the strong part in any RPG game, it's the final nail in the coffin.
The combat is dynamic but the very fact you have to maintain pressed the buttons instead of the classic tapping makes it strange to form combos to quickly eliminate enemies, the fact you can't change your party members at ANY MOMENT (A Final Fantasy video with no other option for party members, what?!) and oh boy, the magic.
This is the first Final Fantasy game I'm not using either magic or summons in a tactic scenario, because one happens in random occasions and the other is "Friendly fire for everyone"
And so far the DLCs lauched should have been in the story. From the beginning.
I'm sorry, SE, but you can't live up by the name alone.
You need to back it up with good games.

I had hope for this game, because of the good user and critic reviews. Ultimately, it was disappointing. If you take away the repetitive and intentionally time-consuming side quests, this is a very short game, with only a few small set pieces. I quickly went from start to sidequests, then immediately to end game.

The world also feels small. Much of it looks and has the same feel.

I never connected with the characters, either. Prompto is unnecessarily insecure and his personal twist falls flat, feeling like an afterthought. I watched the anime beforehand, which does help to provide some background.

It's upsetting that the success of this may force a similar direction in the future.

The developer seemed to think the car (Regalia) was going to add some sort of value to the story but all it does is slow things down. When completing quests, who wants to sit for 5 minute in real time just waiting for the characters to drive to their location?

Combat is horrible as well. Final Fantasy's best games have all utilized strategic turn-based combat. With each new iteration since FFX they keep moving more and more toward timed button-press combat. That's not what made the series so successful - why do it? They need to go back to FF VII, IX, and X and look at what made those games gems. The direction they're going in couldn't be worse.

    - Magic system is horrible, no healing, status spells, feels even worse than FF8 drawing spots, much more sparse, and aiming magic feels bad

    - Open world is mostly void of anything of value, and a complete waste of time

    - Character's movements when they are talking look incredibly awkward

    - Ignis and Prompto are some of the worst and most annoying teammates ever

    - Only get gil from hunts, and hunts feel much worse than FF12 hunts do (could be different in future chapters)

    - Caves and tombs are completely out in the open, not in some faraway, beautiful, mystical area with puzzle(s) and great loot like in other Final Fantasies, so it just feels off, like they just put them in random, unfit places

    - Bad dialogue half the time, makes you roll your eyes

    - Way too much boring fetch-quests are thrown at you

    - Blocking system is abysmal, you have to be incredibly precise, so it just feels like it doesn't work sometimes despite me holding block and having MP

    - Lack of its own memorable music, which is sad because that is one of the main things I look forward to in a Final Fantasy game

    - Royal arms feel bad to use, since they take away health as you use them, but you want to have them assigned to shortcuts to get the stat benefits from them so you're left with 1-2 weapons to deal with the enemies, but each enemy has different weapon weaknesses so, ugh...

    - Ascension is generally worse than previous game's skill trees/license board/etc, just feels like a bunch of things jumbled together a lot of them useless, or of little value.

    - Characters react to negative story situations in a really unnatural way

    - There is judder on 'High' graphics mode, even on PS5, and the game looks bad on 'Lite'

    - You have to watch or buy DLC to get proper introductions to your teammates but, even then, their stories and how their connected to Noctis are bad

    - You have to watch Heavensward movie to get a proper explanation of what happens in the beginning of the game, which I did when it came out, I also bought the game and season pass, but could never get into it no matter how many times I tried over the years because the first few chapters always made me quit the game, now I've gotten further on PS5 because the load times are much better and performance is improved.

    * Keep in mind I stopped at chapter 7, I think FF7 to even 13-2 are much better than this game, and I make the comparison to Sonic '06 because this game just feels like a jumble of things that don't fit together.

I went over all the negatives, so here's the positives:

    - Monsters look good

    - Summons, they feel good to use and look great

    - Chocobos

    - Ardyn (at least so far) but even his charms couldn't keep me playing

The battle system is really boring and doesnt at any point FEEL like a final fantasy.

Ok, so starting out this game shows massive promise. Amazing party dynamic, great exploration, good gameplay. It's not until you find out that your kingdom was invaded by the enemy does this game go down the drain. I'm rating this a 2 instead of a 0 because of what i listed above (and also the ending is dope). But, here's the thing, without DLC this game is unplayable. Plot holes everywhere you can imagine, it's unreal how many there are. So many characters introduced only for it to go nowhere. With DLC, it's better but i still have trouble playing it. The worst part about this game is the female MC. WHy does she exist? i don't understand. I don't care who she is, what she does, and her death i could care less about. She was there and then not anymore. You know the MC loves her, but you don't know WHY. i've never played a game where the female love interest is as flat as a piece of paper, because her screentime spans around 10 minutes. UP the movie made me cry with the death of the female MC without any words being said. And yet this game can't do that? Why didn't they expand the story to make her a playable character? At the very least make us care about her. But no, she dies, the MC is distraught, and at the end of the game you see them in heaven married but you don't give a f***. Yes, the death of Noctis is sad, i get it. It's emotional. But jesus christ, fill the plot holes, make the female MC more likeable, and please make the hunt system better, it's like FFXII but on steroids and meth. FFXII system was long but it was good with equipment that was useful, in this game you can just use Star of the Rogue and vaporize every boss in the game.

    - sitting in the back seat of a car for long periods of time
    - the cloths that bouncers wear at nightclubs

You will likely hate FF15 if you like things like:
    - memorable characters
    - awesome art direction
    - engaging story
    - epic adventures
    - complex combat
    - final fantasy

FF15 is not a bad game, its just not a good game. In the gaming renaissance we are in, there are just so many more games worth your time. Now that I'm a little bit older, I don't have time to waste on bad games and am forced to prioritize what is truly a good game or not a good game. Sadly, this is just not.

There are some positives, but with so many negatives to counteract each.
-The monster design is very good; but the combat has you flying around at light speed so that you cant ever really even see what you are fighting.
-The scale of the game can get crazy, but you never really interact with the massive scale in any interesting ways.
    - A massive effort was put into the graphics, but they shine in mundane places like how fish look or the food looks. While in the car or in combat, the constant motion creates a blur that muddies the graphics. Everything is moving to fast to really enjoy anything.
    - There is live action combat, but it gets old very fast, never developing past the tutorial. In terms of live action combat, there is no denying that it is unique, but it is also the most simple combat system I've ever played in any action or RPG game.
    - The chars go against everything FF; only one playable char, only 4 people total in your party and no fantasy chars or even women.
    - There is a massive realistic world map, but most of the time you are annoyingly footslogging along or battling the games map mechanics to fast travel around. Car driving is as intricate as holding R2 or even just letting someone else drive you around. There are parts where you can control the car freely, so the mechanics are there, but they just decided to force you on a track for most of the game where you can literally just let the game play itself and go do something else.
    - Every time you go to activate something it tells you to press X. If you press X when prompted, most of the time you just jump for no reason. You have to learn to wait slowly so you don't confuse the game.
    - The story is a series of mundane quests to get to something interesting. Drive to the gas station. Walk around a town market. Pitch a tent. The side-quests are complete drivel; a mixture of fetch quests and kill quests less interesting than decade old MMOs. Feed a stray cat, go buy a tomato or a million quests to go click on a dot on the ground and then return.
    - The voice acting is not bad and very deep but the context is just not engaging. "Hey bro - you mad bro?". Its hour after hour of some emo kids having a bro-down. Also most of the time the lips dont match up so it's like watching a dubbed movie.
    - The character design is the worst in the series history. Not a single interesting protagonist or antagonist to be found. In order to make up for the lackluster char design, they threw in inappropriate cleavage and schoolgirl outfits as a consolation prize. enjoy.

For those of us old enough, we remember FF7 and how it changed gaming forever, and a few later games that rode its legacy before the key devs had to retire and the games started being made by people who definitely never played the games that made the franchise what it is. Hoping that the next Final Fantasy will be great is like hoping to find good television when you turn on MTV. There was once an era for Final Fantasy, that era is long dead. There are more sad spin-offs and miserable failures to its name than successes, most of them trying to ride the fumes of nostalgia. This new game ties in some ideas from Grand Theft Auto in an attempt to reinvigorate the series for a new generation. Unfortunately the devs clearly don't understand what makes FF or GTA great.

If they titled this game correctly "Final Fantasy: Cool Car Bro-down Extreme" then it would deserve a consolation 7/10 for a nice first attempt at a new genre despite a plethora of flaws. For the audacity of them making this a staple Final Fantasy game to stand with the likes of 7,8,10,&12 - it gets a 1/10.

This game is selling well so it may not be the "final" fantasy, but it sure is for me. RIP

I'll give this game a 1 simply because it provides you with 30+ hours of content. Unfortunately, the content is awful and it's a chore to play through. I don't want to go into detail as there are already great posts talking about the game, but I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone. Second worse FF game next to FFXIII.

The combat system is incomprehensible to me, everything happens too fast and feels overly chaotic. I don't feel like I am making choices or that i have any ability to control the combat. I don't see how the game has as good a score as it does. It irks me to no end that I have to manually control the camera.

I loved the early final fantasy games. I hoped to get back into them with this

I loved the early final fantasy games. I hoped to get back into them with this title... that didn't happen.

P.S. I am amazed to see it included on many of the best games of 2016 lists and laugh to see No Man's Sky included on all the same lists.

For me Final Fantasy 6 and 7 is the best ones so this xv is realy terrible and should not be named even final fantasy, cant be bothered to play it anymore, story and gameplay is a joke. This is even more worse than ff xii. If you want jrpg tales of games are that.

Update:So finaly i got and played it to the ending and now i can finaly say this is the worst final fantasy game i have ever played.

    Something is SERIOUSLY wrong!
God how I wished this was a Final Fantasy game!!! It is only by name.

If you want to make a flawed action game that:
    i) steals a million ideas from many other games of various genres, however with VERY poor incorporation (cooking, fishing as MAIN SKILLS?) OR
ii) an action RPG with some Final Fantasy momments...

WHY THE HELL CALL IT A FINAL FANTASY GAME?

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
