Okay! Before I get mad, I rated XV 6 out of 10, and that is VERY generious. I love Final Fantasy games and I NEVER had a problem with them. The game has beautiful graphics and cutscenes, but that is it. The worst Final Fantasy I have played in my entire life. Square Enix, what were you thinking??? This game you made here, is NOT Final Fantasy, period. You know that I know that, anybody who played a real Final Fantasy game knows that. I get it, you were trying to target a new audience, but this game is NOT for Final Fantasy so-called fans at all. Why did you have to deceive us like that? WHY? You know what? FF XIII is a good game, but XV was INCOMPLETE sold at FULL price!!! The main story alone is ONLY 6-10 hours long? ALL your other FFs were 40-60 hours long, for the main story. Also, why does XV play like Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry or Resident Evil instead of Final Fantasy? WHY? You were better off naming this gaming something else, but you labeled it FF to TRICK us fans into buying it, for MORE money. I call that GREED. I can't trust you anymore Square Enix and I will not be buying your DLCs to fill in the holes of this XV game that you created on purpose. What's wrong with you people? There are invisible walls everwhere yet you claim this game to be an OPEN WORLD game. It is NOT an open world, that is a complete lie. Almost all of your fetch quests are literally COPY/PASTE. There are bugs everywhere. The button mapping is awful. Barely any magic. There is NO difficulty what-so-ever, but Easy Mode. Where is the Strategy? Boss battles are QTEs, all you have to do is press 'O' to kill the boss. Boss battles are basically cutscenes now. Really? Important pieces of the story were cut out on purpose for you to get people to buy Downloadable Content. Really? Even Tabata says he did this intentionally, in order to make it a trend. MIND BLOWN. This game was under 10 years of development, and you put out false trailers as bait and switch to get me to buy GARBAGE. This game is GARBAGE at best, but I will give you 6 out of 10, because, I am a nice person like that.

Anybody want to see the truth of the game? Go on YouTube and watch this SHORT story of the game -> https://youtu.be/18_mwsGe72o The story makes no sense, you can't emotionally connect to the characters and most of it is boring anyways.

Never preorder games from Square Enix and always do research before you buy their games at full price.

In one word, I'd call this game incomplete. Story makes little sense. It's just not fleshed out enough due to obviously missing chunks of the game that were cut. The world is wonderful, except there isn't much reason to actually explore the open world. The side activities are fun, like fishing, but there is no real point to them. The gameplay is fun though. The world is wonderful, except there isn't much reason to actually explore the open world. The side activities are fun, like fishing, but there is no real point to them. The gameplay is fun though. Sadly, if this wasn't a FF title, I'd actually give it a higher score despite it's flaws.

As for a FF title, it checks some boxes. That's it. There are chocobos but they are less useful since you have a car. Moogles are mentioned. They don't actually seem to exist in the world. Magic exists, but the use of it is not like in any previous game. There is no cure/cura/curaga spell. Hope you like spamming pots. There is a way to make a healing spell but your spells have a cooldown timer. Playing a mage isn't possible. Having a mage in your party isn't possible. The regular spell casting system of FF could have been in the game even with realtime combat because of the RTwP function. It would have worked wonderfully to issue commands to your casters. The AI is strong enough that that may not have even been necessary.

Summons are there but have been stripped of their coolness due to lack of ability to use them like in previous games. Most of the summons aren't in the game.

Side characters are very limited. Don't expect to have a dozen different characters come and go and come again from your party like in previous games. The additional characters that join your party are few and for very, very short periods.

I probably could go on and on. The combat and gameplay is overall fun, but it's a craptastic FF game. They gave up too much to make this realtime and open world, and I don't think they needed to.

I really wanted this game to be great and I feel there hasn't been a strong Final Fantasy entry since FF7, but this game feels like they're trying too hard, whilst the world is beautiful, it lacks structure and real depth.

Navigating this world is painful, they've gone with a somewhat realistic approach, sleep, food, travel etc but it doesn't make the world fum to explore, the side quests are the absolute worst I've seen in an open world game and it feels never ending and it, collect this, collect that, give this guy this, that, take a photo here and there, the sidequests don't really supplement the main story but is just a poor implementation for a reason for you to explore and see this world, the amount of side quests is too much and it kills the momentum of the story if you do them frequently.
I also don't get the combat and half of the time I actually don't know what I'm hitting, the camera will also make things worse when you're fighting in foliage or rocks as your view is constantly obstructed.

The story has great production value, the characters are decent but it isn't anything outstanding but not the Final Fantasy game I was expecting or wanted.

The first half of the game seemed very promising, but after finishing the game, i realized the early content was totally meaningless. The back half of the game was an unfinished mess that felt like a chore to get through. I could excuse some sloppy level design or short levels but the writing started falling apart too. Important story arcs were being resolved with a bit of dialog at the end of a fight. In one scene, an important antagonist switches to your side and then gets killed for it; all off-camera. You end up finding his body later on with a stack of correspondence explaining what happened. That is not how you tell a story,

I feel like going open world was a mistake. They could have gone with a few detailed zones and focused on the story more. Making this a trans-media production was also a bad choice. To get the full story, you needed to watch a separate movie, a series of animated shorts and play another game. The full FFXV made almost no effort to fill in those blanks. People buy these games for the story and character development.

The main story of FF15 is passable and kept my interest and the development of Prince Notics and his compainions was well done, but FF15 includes some of the laziest side quests i have ever played and they feel so out of place, "quests" such as find me some ingredient, take a picture for me and help me pick up some frogs are all recycled and repeated through the first half of the game which add little to no excitement and end up feeling like a chore. Multiple times i found myself thinking" why am i doing this?" and "why are they asking their prince to do such trivial tasks?"
My main complain about this game is the combat system. It reminds me very much of Dragon Age 2, lock on and spam one button. There is no skill, no tactics and most of the time it becomes so frantic. This doesn't help with the terrible camera which doesn't follow the character and most of the time you've left wondering where you are and whats going on.
Id also argue if this is even an RPG at all ( the second half of the game definitely isnt) You only control one character, the other three will fight on their own and will always get hit whenever you use the limited magic you can use since you cant command them to move away before use. I ended up not using magic at all since it just became a hindrance.
The world is also dead, their is no excitement, nothing going on, NPCs you dont care about and most of the time is spent looking at the lifeless scenery while sitting in a car you dont really control.

Overall the game does have some good moments but they are too and far between and for a game that took so long to make, everything just seems so rushed and not thought through.

It looks like their ideal game contains part A-B-C-D-E-F and so on. However, they have only finished part A and a little bit of part B. So basically after part B you are rushing towards the end with lots of unanswered questions and confusing story development.

However I still enjoy this game. But for those who are considering, maybe you should avoid this current version and save your time.

    - Since its a final fantasy title, I expect a good story.
    - Too many fetch quest. It makes the game more like an online game.
    - You can definitely finish the game in under 30-20 hours.
    - If you level up too much, the game will be easy as hell.

    Note:
I can recommend this game especially to new comers. Also, FF fans should deal with this game because SE is trying to transition to this kind of play style. FF VII remake will be kind of this game too.

The endgame hunts are good but the fact you can only have one at a time is stupid. Traveling in the car ,especially while flying, is terrible and they should setup landmarks like Skyrim where, if you've been to a checkpoint, you can fast travel. The endgame dungeons are horrid. Fight the same four or five enemies in different quantities for 3+ hours without being able to save till you get to the boss.
The game just feels unfinished. The story has huge gaps in it.
Why was the empire even in the game?
What happened to that immortal guy in the first dungeon.
Why do you get reported dead by the empire than stroll around like nothing happened. No one notices that the DEAD PRINCE is walking around.
The character development picks up at the end but 75% of the game you don't care about your friends and I never cared about Lunafreya. They are supposed to have this bond. They met for ONE DAY twelve years ago, but they were pen pals? They have cell phones in the world. The difficulty is way too low. It is almost impossible to die, with items you could probably beat the game at level 25. Skipping cutscenes maybe 15 hours to beat if rushed.
I know it seems brutal, but I did beat it and get max Lvl. I think if they had used the combat system with a well fleshed out story and characters it could have been really great. It seems like they spend a lot of time on the battle system and not enough on pacing and storytelling. fetch quests are all the side missions and none have depth except the chocobo line. If i had to rate the recent FF games it would be as listed below
It can give an insight into what i value in games. RPGS are about stories and worlds, not the best graphics and battle system.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite being different than previous titles it's still a good Final Fantasy game. The battle system is awesome except for the annoying camera movements. The story is quite weaker than other titles, they also offer free story dlc's after release which means they release the game in incomplete form and they use the dead-protagonist-girlfriend card which is quite overused already. You can't even summon espers/aeon/gf or whatever you like without certain conditions during battle and there are only 5 or 6 of them which is very quite disappointing it's actually one of the features in previous ff titles that I really love specially in ff10. Despite all those flaws it's not a bad game. I just feel like its almost on par with ff13. Expand

    Cons :
The fighting system doesn't get deeper.
The magic system is one of the worse in the series.
The story is so poorly told.
The secondary characters are poorly written and you can't get attached to any of them because they don't have much appearance time.
The Boss fights are way too easy to make any sense.
The world is all the same and not that big because you can't even go everywhere you want.
The post ending is pretty useless.
There is too many back and forth travelling with the car.
Most of the side-quests are completely useless and are nonsense.

With no DLC, I would say this is a 7/10. I’m going to update this review after all the expansions are out.

The thing I loved in Final Fantasy games was that you can optimize your party and choose team leader, have multiple characters etc. now they have taken away that part and made the game more like kingdom hearts with 3 goofys running around and throwing one liners.

There are good things too, the soundtrack is amazing. Graphics are good for PS4 standards. Summons are huge and epic.

What comes for gameplay, you can beat the main story with just one button. Holding down square makes you auto attack. Summoning is not allowed always, you must meet the right conditions for it.

Talking about the artistic part, the work is awesome here. Amazing design of characters, enemies, environments. A wonderful soundtrack. The deep message about friendship. FFXV got me there.

Unfortunately, it lacks of depth in every other thing that makes it a game. In one way or another, you can feel the game is sort of a grouping of bits of ideas and different courses during the development process. Lots of mechanics and new elements are introduced to the player and quickly left behind, too many characters are shooting stars whose past, future, or causes you never get to know more about.

I haven't enjoyed the fighting system. It becomes too chaotic with more than 3 enemies at a time, and fights are sometimes so easy that you feel ashamed you can keep on just smashing the attack button, or so difficult you feel frustrated not to be able to do anything to avoid being ass-kicked and abuse your inventory's healing items. Also, I missed some plot background for most of the missions that are not part of the main storyline.

I have to praise, though, Prompto's photography system as a fresh and funny way of keeping memories from any everyday moment, any non important thing you do, not having to be part of the story. Those moments are the really important ones as you take a look back to the journey of the main characters and how their relationship develops; and looking at Prompto's photos you can even feel them as your own trip's. It's kind of emotional.

In summary, you should play FFXV because it really has value as a game, but, as I, you will probably not forgive it ended up being the shadow of what it could have achieved.

Los gráficos están bien, aunque muchas texturas lo petaban, en la época de los 128 bits,,,

El rol en este juego se queda muy corto, para llegar seguramente a más público. Pero de verdad, muy

The story itself was ok, it's definitely new though you would feel that once you start the game, the story has already "played out" and it's like being trapped on the middle of the story already, like you're supposed to understand everything on hand (I know that there's the movie and the anime but that feels more like damage control since they must've felt that the story could've been told in a much better way).

While I don't hate everything about the game, I love how they tried to make it seem like an "open world" game though it's clearly not. I still feel like the game's world is way too small and the quests are too repetitive for a game that's been in development for YEARS. Also, I found that this is the easiest FF I've played so far (and i've played almost every FF out there starting from FF3). Though the reason for that is they wanted to be accessible to the newcomers to the series but it feels like a letdown for long time fans.

It also didn't helped that the missing story parts are sold as DLC. The characters too had little character development and their twists were lacking in impact. All in all, Final Fantash XV may not be for everyone but it is certainly not a very bad game as other people claim it to be.

What Final Fantasy has always sold itself on is story. This is the number one gripe I have with the game. I can forgive the rough open world idea, the endless fetch quests, the inconsistent combat, and wonky camera, but I can not forgive the story that was delivered. If your main enjoyment from previous FF's has been story then you are most likely going to be disappointed by this entry.

The pacing is alarmingly irregular. At the early stages of the game there is none to little story (or motivation) around to drive you forward, but as you come to the end exposition gets thrown at you all at once and you will be pushed towards the end of a story you've only just been starting to understand. In the early chapters you will be told to collect weapons to help your country, only to have this discarded as important by the next chapter where communing with aeons suddenly becomes what it is you have to do. Focus is the main thing this story needed but there is a lack of it at both ends; there is very little clear idea of what it is you're actually working towards at the beginning, and near the end so much is going on all at once that it is hard to pinpoint what the story is trying to tell you. Characters will routinely have things happen to them rather than developing themselves through choices and actions. The four main characters you spend your time with are likable but rarely step out of the sterotypes you are introduced to at the start. New characters will be introduced only to disappear very soon after and become largely irrelevant to the grand scheme of things. A lot of events will happen off screen with little attempt to explain them further to the viewer who might be confused by what exactly has happened.

The combat is passable. I found myself enjoying it immensely at the beginning but it soon becomes boring and rigid. There isn't much variation to mix things up and battles seem to be either ridiculously easy or unfairly hard with little comfortable middle. Attacking certain parts of enemies is a fun idea but it doesn't add much to the strategy or flow of battle. The best execution in battles is the tactics you can order your friends to make, and the team attacks you can trigger with them. These are gratifying and fun to watch as well as essential to a lot of harder fights, but even with this good addition the combat doesn't do much to entice you to enjoy it for it's own sake. Magic was as much of a dealbreaker for me as it seems it was for most people but more variety would have been nice and it was simply easier just to attack away then throw magic half the time.

The open world is again passable. Bogged down with meaningless fetch quests and tedious car journeys, the best way to travel is by chocobo but don't expect your exploration to be rewarded. You can come across quest givers with broken down cars, or a person in distress requiring a potion, but what I've just described is the extent of the complexity to these discoveries. These people have nothing new to say or bring to the game as a whole and you will find yourself cursing when finding them after a short while. The world is pretty and the diversity of enemies is good, I will give it that. I did enjoy fishing but the repetitive banter which is a symptom elsewhere is at it's worse when doing so. You will hear the same lines over and over and don't expect to grow to love them- it mars what is otherwise quite a fun minigame. I didn't even bother with the pinball machine game after trying it once so can't talk extensively about that but it certainly didn't win me over.
The day/night cycle changes up what enemies you will encounter but you will run into a problem I mentioned earlier, in that a lot of these fight are unfairly hard and a chore to get through. In fights like this your winning depends more upon the amount of potions and phoenix downs you've got handy than actual skill.

The music is something I can applaud, and the soundtrack is one of my favorites of all Final Fantasy games. It's done incredibly well apart from a few town hubs (Lestallum I'm looking at you) being repetitive and annoying. Alongside this the inclusion of being able to buy previous game's soundtracks is inspired. In other positive notes the villain did as well as they could of done considering the story; they were both threatening and entertaining and it is a real shame more backstory couldn't have been discovered on them, as I was very interested. Photography is another inspired move alongside cooking; there's something about looking at photos while eating a dinner you choose yourself that feels cosy and familiar. It is in these moments that the game feels like something more special and worthy of our time.

The combat seems ok but its nothing special. Magic is almost non-existent and very basic compared to past games and while you can summon creatures and entities, they are usually situational. Story was kind of jumbled and doesn't make a whole lot of sense without the new content they released. There are sections of the game that seem like they borrowed ideas from the Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil franchises. Driving around in the car is cool for a while but it quickly becomes boring. Unfortunately they tied this aspect of the game as a way to build up your AP to unlock skills. A few of the boss fights are cool.

Ultimately, you're better off playing the complete or "Royal" edition as it has all the content that was supposed to be in the game when it first released. If you're a fan of the newer FF games, you might like this but fans of the older games are going to want to steer clear.

While there was much less dialogue between characters than in previous entries, I did not think that the decrease in quantity equated to a proportional increase in quality.

Perhaps most surprisingly of all, FFXV's combat felt lacklustre. I was deeply disappointed that I ended u feeling this way, as I believe that more enjoyable combat, in tandem with the solid graphics and overall skeleton of the game, might have gotten me to push past the elements I didn't find enjoyable. I recall making it about halfway through the game before becoming frustrated and abandoning my playthrough.

Much better than FFXIII, but that is an extremely low bar. If you have never enjoyed a Final Fantasy game (especially a modern one), I do not think this will change your mind.

FFXV without chocobos and summos doesnt really feel a final fantasy game anymore. I know things adapt or change or it might just be since the game on release was incomplete. The story never moved me. Luna got so little screen time that she felt like a one time character in a series or an anime. Just inserted to give the main character some motivation.

Side content are also bland. And putting the character development of the other 3 behind a pay wall is just icing to the disappointing cake of FFXV.

These incomplete and paid extra episodes is not a good sign for the upcoming FF7 remake which I wont play until it is complete, probably by 2025. Lesson learned here in FFXV.

FFXV is a frustrating game. There are positive aspects of it for sure, and I suspect most gamers will enjoy their time with it, but the things that weigh it down, really weigh it down.

The game is about 80% atmosphere and combat, 20% story. You get hit with a big exposition dump at the beginning of the game and then it's more or less open road until near the end. In other words, this very much isn't the typical FF formula. It's much more open world. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't mesh well with telling a deep and compelling story.

    Story
Story is one of the biggest weaknesses in FFX. There are major story beats that fall short. Characters who are supposed to be major characters who you get one or two scenes with over the whole game. The villain's backstory is an exposition dump during his final fight with essentially no lead in. The game expects you to watch a companion film to understand part of the early plot, and it doesn't come with all versions of the game. Four major events from the story are taken out of the game so that Square Enix can sell them as DLC and they weren't even available at launch. These sections are not smooth in any way shape or form. In other words, the story is a trainwreck from start to finish, which is sad, because there are some interesting premises in it. The villain is, or seems like he would be, interesting. You don't get to know him, but he seems like the kind of villain you would like to get to know. Same thing with the love interest, and the mentor character. They all would have benefited from more screen time. There's also a lot of worldbuilding in this game, some of which actually comes through well, but most of which isn't super relevant to the game itself. The worldbuilding focusses on cities and politics and such, but most of the game takes place in barren wilderness, which is a bit of an odd back and forth. Of all the FF titles I've played, and I've played a lot, this is the one that probably needed the least complicated of a backstory to shape its overall premise, so the fact that they tried to go extremely complicated, and failed to come through, is a dissapointment.

    Combat
Combat is actually decent and is one of the highlights of the game. It looks amazing, but it feels only okay. Attacks aren't as weighty as I would like, and the later into the game you get the more you realize just how button mashy the core mechanics really are. There isn't as much complexity or strategy as you would generally expect from an FF title but it can still be enjoyable enough. The major combat hook is that you can teleport from location to location by throwing your weapons. It looks great and it's decently useful. I've heard complaints about the boss fights but I think most of them are about as good as you could hope given the simple combat mechanics. I enjoyed my time fighting Aeons in particular.

    Atmosphere
This is where the game lives, and is the main reason that the game isn't just a dumpster fire. You have three companions which you start the game with, and you'll never get more. Each has a compelling personality and defining features. Only one has much of a meaningful backstory, but that's back to the story issues. The group chats amongst itself as you play, commenting on everything. They all have useful skills related to being in the great outdoors, photography, and cooking, and you are generally just roaming from town to town, camping in the wilderness, fishing, and hanging out. It's got a good feel to it. Whereas most FF games are entirely combat based, this one almost feels like it has a separate thing going for it in addition to the combat. This is the one aspect of the game that I think really just works. There's a general Southern America vibe to the whole worldspace that really just resonates with what you are doing. It's portrayed in the NPCS, the music, and the architecture, and it all just generally works.

Of course, then you get into the cities and it's back to typical JRPG high fantasy, and honestly, it's a bit of a dissapointment because the cities are so much less innovative or interesting than the outlands.

So that's what you end up with, a game with an inconsistently good worldspace / atmosphere, decent combat, and the makings of a decent story but rough pacing and storytelling and some questionable marketing decisions surrounding locking parts of the main plot behind DLC and the Collector's Edition.

...Almost. The move away from turn based combat is still not justified as the combat largely seemed to me to be less involved and interesting than turn based. Its certainly flashier though and thats what Square Enix seems to care about.

The characters are good but... I mean, the open world design is far from exceptional. Most of the sidequests are dull and the game has a lot of repetition. There's definitely a lot of content here and I appreciate that means a lot for some people. And its all optional so I won't knock it.

But the mandatory content isnt particularly good. The plot seems rather straight forward at parts and then unnecessarily convoluted at others, and never is it particularly deep and interesting until the end. Somehow, the ending made me emotionally invested and impressed, even though the entire plot leading up to that point wasnt great and occasionally seemed very rushed.

One of the questionable decisions was giving the player obvious cheat equipment right from the start. This is even worse with the Royal Edition. Those items can not be removed and permanently clog your inventory. The menus are no fun to navigate and the worst is, you are expected to utilize something like 8 different weapon and 4 magic categories and only have 4 usable slots available. So adapting to different encounters requires pausing the game and navigating through cumbersome menu screens. And then the gind ... seriously, at one point you would be expected to grind something like 24 hours, for 2 items you don't need, by WATCHING, not playing, a totally mind numbing betting "game" over and over ...

Graphically it's nice, the warping in fights and generally the first 2/3 of the game offer many missions and challenges. Especially the dungeons are full of nice little dialogues. But 2 of your 3 "friends" have an annoying Know_it_all attitude, wheres the main protagonist hardly does anything else then sulk.

The story is plain confusing and does not make much sense and character development hardly exists. Not even the main atagonist is really explained. A lot of this is because of the ripped content. It's ok for the open world part, but against the end it really spirales down into a depressing and quite unsatisfying end. And then there is the issue of total overleveling and that just by daring to do a few side missions. Ofcourse I did all I could before the end. In result, for the last third of the game I was about at double the levels I should have been ... nihilating any kind of challenge in an already far to easy game.

I liked the game for many hours, but the end chapters, due to the destroyed story, just killed it for me.

I recommend watching Kingsglaive bluray before you play this as the film functions as an intro to the game. If you're a FF fan though this is a must play! Just dont go in expecting a modern style RPG, its more like an interesting if quirky Japanese mish mash of art and rpg lite game ideas ...

Yesterday I finished the game a second time, and I completed all the side quests, all the dungeons and all the hunts, I have to give a 6.

The story is incomplete and lazy. From the start, the game tries to make you care about Noctis and his fiancee and their wedding. But there is no context, no backstory (I'm not talking about all the external materials like the comics, novels, anime and Kingsglaive movie. Because I paid for a full price for a game, if I have to also consume all the external media to fully understand the story, F you). I never felt for both even though I really liked Luna as a character. Later in the game, the story is all over the place, and everything happens outside of your acknowledgement, you are just told that something happened but you are never involved, so how should I as a player care for any outcome?

The combat is the only positive thing I have to say about the game. It is really fun and engaging and there are so many different styles you can try.

Then the dungeons, the f-ing dungeons. Whoever designed those dungeons are basically saying "F you" while laughing their arse off. Those dungeon designs are some of the worst I've ever expüerienced in all the video games I've played. They are dull, lazy, repetitive and atrocious:
    - there are so many long and linear corridors, they are so long, why? long and without anything happening, they just feel like fillers to make the dungeon longer and your backtracking process more boring
    - there is no shortcut to the sealed door dungeons, so you have to go through the normal dungeon all the way, why?
    - Noctis's movement is so imprecise, he always moves a few steps after he jumps, this makes some platforming sections even more atrocious. Did the devs already test the game? If so, then they designed this piece of **** on purpose. So much time wasted just because Noctis couldn't land on the spot he was supposed to and he falls.

I could go on for another 5k words but I don't want to waste any more of my time on this game. it's a 6. F the dungeons.

The game felt like an overreaction to the linearity complaints of FFXIII. The game could have been great, but it felt like a mish-mash of ideas that never worked well together.
    Cons:
-Many graphical issues. Such as fish swimming above water, NPC characters floating in mid-air, etc. -Gladio getting stuck in an infinite falling animation and becoming useless. -A terribly paced story.

-The car idea was not as fully realised as it could have been.
-Characters disappearing from the party for no reason, only to return later without any explanation, to then have their excursions sold as separate DLC.
-The game gives you a large open world to explore, but then forces you down a number of corridors as if to say "Hey! we have all these cool places in the world. But rather than connect them in a meaningful way, with a satisfying story, and to fully realise them as player spaces, you can have a look at them from the window of a train car or in a tiny little area just of from the platform. enjoy!".

The graphics are actually quite nice. I really enjoyed observing the environments and the photo mode brought this to the forefront. The downside is that it takes too long to traverse the environments without fast travel, which undermines them quite a bit.

The gameplay is also going to divide fans, old and new. No longer turn-based, the game borders on action-oriented more than RPG, however it fails to achieve either of these. You can simply hold the attack button and have fights progress basically on autopilot. There are block and parry options, however these are rather inconsistent and in busier battles you will lose track of what's happening. Also, magic has been reduced to just a 'weapon' wielded by any character rather than encouraging the development of a mage. Maybe they wanted to simplify the game, but all they achieved here was encouraging people to ignore magic completely; at least, that's how I reacted.

Finally, the story. I kept this to last as it will contain SPOILERS and is my biggest gripe. It seems since FFX they just cannot capture a good story. It starts off quite well, however by the midway point it becomes muddled, uninteresting and left me completely unsatisfied. How have they not learned from FFX and FF13 that killing off protagonists is never well received? Other than the Tidus issue, FFX had it perfect - we learned the story gradually and developed feelings and attachments alongside Tidus. The later chapters leave the impression that the game was created in chunks and thrown together none too cohesively.

Overall, I struggle to recommend this game. FF aficionados will want to find out what they are missing, much like myself. However my fears were realised about 10 hours into the game when hunts and fetch-quests became the central formula, and the open-world wasn't always open or accessible - in the later chapters you can't traverse it at all! Still, the current cheap price makes it worth a bash, and if you don't mind the repetitiveness then you could clock up some serious hours in this. I just think there are much better offerings out there.

But my main problem is that leveling up feel unsatisfying. I don't care if Noctis is Level 12 or if he's level 70, the games almost feels like an action game with RPG elements. Kingdom Hearts feels more like a RPG than FInal Fantasy XV does. I was really hyped for the game when it was first coming out and when it did, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by my lack of out-put with how I could affect my characters stats, and thought that It would open up as I get further in the game. I don't think I've ever been so happy with a game just to have it turn on a dime.

This game in the first few chapters was excellent. Up through chapter 3 or 4 or so. Truly great. But in its greatness, it was kind of like season 1 of Lost, where it opens up this great intrigue that you think will at some point be answered. But it just never is. The game remains good, at times great, up until chapter 9 or so. But it goes from great to awful the second you step on the train. I don't know what the developers of this were thinking, but I've literally never seen a game take such a turn. I'd give this a ten until chapter 4, chapters 5-9 probably an 8 or maybe a 9, and chapters 10-13 a 1. Just unenjoyable nonsense that I stopped playing (apparently) an hour or two before the end.

The last good Final Fantasy was put out almost 20 years ago. Gotta wonder if the series is just dead at this point.

The other issue is that characters outside the main four lack development or motivation explanations. The second half of the game was also meant to be open world, but tight development deadlines resulted in lots of cut content. Lastly the visuals, while great in some parts, have been downgraded from the build of the game we saw in trailers and demos. So despite the mindless grind being kinda fun for a while, the rushed and weak story, cut content, and inability to have the entire lore of this world confined to the game disc makes this game a below average experience as far as other video games and especially other Final Fantasies go. 6/10 Expand

My big problem is the story! The whole world is not fleshed out right, feels empty, none of the NPCs care about what is going on at all. The plot is shallow and makes little sense. We get no back story for most characters, the bare minimum for others. The villain is mediocre at best. The ending was a big disappointment, as well.

what really concerns me is from the way story told,it gave me a vibe:

    1. that there's only 2 country in the whole planet(i know there's more but they didn;t tell much about it and they didn't state their stand in this war between nifflheim and noctis' country)

2.they have modern technology, they even have smartphone, camera and radio...how come the news didn't spread around the world and another country condemned Nifflheim?

    3.how come there's no United Nation-like organization?

    4. there's no history about civilization of these country in FF 15 (don;t tell me something like " play the DLC" i'm talking about the main game,if it need dlc just to explain the plot holes, then it's a failed game (story-wise at least),no doubt)

5.they sacfrice the story for the expansive open world and "other stuff",please,it's far better if you limit the open world stuff and add more to the story,if i want to play "Wasteland Open world game" i'll play fallout instead.

6.they should take example on FF XII or Trails Series on how to make more real Political problem as the main story.

7.FF XV Story is too shallow,it's really lacking in depth. they don't really put attention to the small detail of the story.as i said in the beginning,if a smal detail executed rightly,it could add more to the universe of FF XV and people can more relate to the story

i love the fact that you need to farm crystals to cast magic and that when you cast it you should be aware not to affect yourself or your teammates however, every time you need to craft your magic and there's limited amount you can use before crafting new ones. Summons are just completely random, at times a cut scene pf the summon will be activated and u get the damage. Normal game play is also boring. Parrying doesn't work always.it says press O but its hold and there's still a case it wont work. Noctus has a unique playing style but its gets boring and annoying , the fact that you use a blade and then forced to change and get a new one its annoying . Fishing camping and driving are there/ optional BUT only re fun in the beginning. Also Never Ever adventure during the night otherwise you re dead
Its fair to say if you get through it then you will enjoy it , for me the moments of Oh god not again were so often that i gave up on it and change game.

Final Fantasy XV is a solid game. However, it has some glaring issues. The combat is clunky, and very chaotic. There is no strategy in the combat system, as with older FF games. It is inferior and takes away a very enjoyable element of FF of old. And the summoning is awful. You must meet a oddly specific set of scenarios for you to summon. Very lame, and bad idea.

The Regalia is more of a nuisance than anything else. Driving is boring, and cumbersome. Noctis is a enjoyable character, and his supporting cast is decent. But fairly forgettable.

All in all, FF XV is solid but left me yearning for FF of old. If FF continues in this hack and slash direction, I'll sadly have to leave the franchise for good

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I've played almost every game in the series and have been a long time fan. This is my least favorite in the series, though I still enjoyed it. But yeah let's get into my issues with the game. Keep in mind this will review the game pre dlc
First the combat between not being able to see what I'm doing when fighting hordes of enemies to magic being a joke it's already mostly autopilot. And not being able to switch between characters is a huge negative. Now the summons while they look awesome the requirements to trigger some of them are ridiculous and too specific. Another thing the side missions in this game are a joke and mostly boring fetch quests. As far as the gameplay ff7 remake took everything this game tried to do and did it leagues better.
Now for the story... The game was not finished there are sections of the game missing. They remedied this in the dlcs but for a game series known for its story this is a sin. I even missed main elements of the story because I didn't do a specific thing in it's too large too empty open world. Open world does not mean key elements of the story should be missable mgsv made this mistake too. Also they didn't show noctis's homeland being destroyed no pre rendered or anything it just kind of happens. They could have used scenes from the movie. But anyway what I got from the story I did like.
So on a final note I enjoyed the game but they really needed more time with and it needed a more stable direction.

It would be much more fun with better dialogue/cutscene system or just PL localization. Fallout4/Skyrim were fine with english, but this game is too much jRPG style. When u're loosing with story its pointless to play next hours. Maybe next time give option - minimalistic english or native english. For players who are lost there maybe should been some logs, guide, good storyIt would be much more fun with better dialogue/cutscene system or just PL localization. About gameplay - fighting is satisfying but teamwork isnt. Companions are fine when u're not steering companions. Perks/synergy system is little bad, when u're limited. I think Mount And Blade system is 10 more satysfying when u doesnt care too much which perk and perk tree isnt strange. Just use bow to increese its level than same speed increese blade skill - just for using it. Also loot is too much jRpg gun+1, blade+2 - no immersion (visualisation isnt as much important as stats like in ERing)

Main character - could been more customizable or more neutral like Witcher or Spiderman.

It's a very good game, gameplay it's fun, intuitive interface and story line. Something negative Is that the perfomance on PS4 Is bad, low dificculty and plot hole in the story line.

FFXV is a weird game, but it worked for me.

There are a lot of flaws, but above all, I enjoyed most of it. It really felt like a road trip with some funny dudes you can bond with. Cons: - Pacing is bad. There is a sense of urgency, yet you just chill with some funny dudes until things go downhill and then it's suddenly a linear game - Story is told in a weird way. Some important

    Cons:
    - Pacing is bad. There is a sense of urgency, yet you just chill with some funny dudes until things go downhill and then it's suddenly a linear game
    - Story is told in a weird way. Some important plot points are told in radio comms, which you might totally miss. I couldn't grasp the whole story from playing it. Reading up on it, it might have been a pretty good story though.
    - Not really that immersive considering you run around with the most attention-grabbing clothes and have retainers who wear normal shorts and 3/4 bermuda trousers.
    - Some of the quests are really stupid, but at least I got a good laugh out of some.
    - Filler open world content to pad out the game
    - Some of the music tracks are really grinding my ears
    - Some passages of the game are really bad towards the end

In my opinion this is the best single player FF since FFIX, albeit it being completely different. However, you can clearly see this was a game in development hell, since a lot of things feel very disconnected.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
