    Absolutely embarrassing, year after year EA leave career mode to rot and focus all their work on Ultimate Team (their cash cow). Numerous bugs, many carried over from Fifa 19, no innovation and nothing like what the patch notes said. EA need to stop joking with customers who pay 70€ every year for the same game.

    You'd expect with the constant controversy surrounding EA that they would get better moving forward, the opposite is true. Ignore the high rated reviews claiming that its PES fanboys rating this 0, they're delusional, both games are trash. The list of bugs with this game is endless and I just can't see them fixing it all, this game is    Over 25 years of FIFA and this is where we are.

    The list of bugs with this game is endless and I just can't see them fixing it all, this game is so broken.

    They promised before release that issues(mainly career mode) would be fixed this year(which is still on their website), yet here we are with it being worse than ever, surely that's got to be false advertising, some people say "I don't know why you're surprised" but here's the thing, the've not made such promises before a release like that. For FIFA 19 we all knew the career mode would remain almost untouched, that wasn't the case in the build up for this release.

    A transfer update was added on release day but was removed a short time later with no explanation, they claim to be operating with some transparency but you have to go out of your way to find an account of an EA employee on Twitter for any kind of vague update, their website and official social media accounts say nothing other than Ultimate Team related bs.

    Another sign of how they operate, they want people to be pushed towards ultimate team, this seemed to be why you couldn't play house rules against friends online with FIFA 19, now we have the same issue with Volta, no option to play online with friends.

    The new penalty system makes no sense, it shouldn't be easier to save a penalty than it is to score and the new system is completely useless when it comes to playing local matches, there's no way you can accurately take them without the stupid target because of how sensitive it is but then your opponent will see where your shooting. They've had 25 years to come up with a good system but we are presented with this mess.

    The AI is shambolic, that's where there is no surprise, Legendary difficulty will randomly seem to disable their defenders and let you stroll through, switch it up to Ultimate and you can see a goal coming a mile off because they will start playing ping pong football with incredibly accurate one touch passing all the way from the back while your players out of you control appear to close their eyes and run away from the ball.

    They're just terrible at making games, it's a crime that the likes of Red Dead and The Witcher cost the same amount as this trash, a game in development for many years vs one that seems to have been thrown together very quickly without testing.    … Expand

    The worst FIFA in many years. Little to no change in the gameplay, and career mode is unplayable due to a large number of glitches which ruin the game. FIFA 20 was nowhere near ready to be shipped and any company with a shred of integrity would have delayed its release.

    EA done it again, they are selling half product at full price, hyping carrere mode that is broken, isn't that false advertising? Why again? Battlefront II,BFV, Anthem, that's why... When are you going to give us what we are paying for?

    Same piece of **** game it is every year. Why do people fall for this? EA makes billions but put little to no effort in making a new game that is not broken at its core.

    New cover, same **** Save your money, give it away as tips to people who are actually working hard rather than giving it to a lazy publisher. Even getting trapped in a pyramid scheme is better than buying into this bull**** every year. I'm done.

    I'll try to give it a fair score, given the great amount things that can be observed. First, VOLTA, as their major improvement is very fun, especially if you play with friends in home. It is not very technical, and god save those who play this for competition, but it fails in one critical issue, it decalibrates your game for nomal mode: tackling is different, movement is different andI'll try to give it a fair score, given the great amount things that can be observed. It is not very technical, and god save those who play this for competition, but it fails in one critical issue, it decalibrates your game for nomal mode: tackling is different, movement is different and every diribbling is different, so if you go play VOLTA for a while, you'll fail in every tackle if go back to FUT later.

    Despite of improvements in many ways about movement, they have done almost nothing about AI passing. Succesful passes are based on timing (who press pass vs tackle first) and not direction (you can give another direction and pass will still be successful), and AI keeps deciding for you which players is the reciever based on computed "pass intention" This was the most important issue about 19, because automatic passes ensures that not so skilled players can win. In adition, pace is back again as the most important stat, and every player is doing the SAME goal: run to the end and then try to pass to the box (thanks to auto pass-reciever dynamic).
    In real football it is important to have timing, but timing without intention is nothing, and intention in Fifa 20 is computed by AI not by you. Ball positioning is 80% given by AI and your marign of failure depends on how much your opponent guess your direction, but as timing is the most important thing, pass correction is 100% almost all the time. All this auto pass positioning makes that players always aims for blind spots, because the slightly mismatch in 'direction battle', and attacking player makes a perfect trough pass, oftenly not even thought by the opponent, even i have done this several times and gives me a pass that i never thought to be so perfect. I have played many several matches that the opponent simply never dribbles and just aim for blind spots.
    Let's put an example with possesion. If your defense line have the ball, and my CB points to LB to pass the ball horizontally but not like a normal pass (0°) but a through pass, CB will pass with advantage but way more ahead in the pitch that i want, like 45° instead of 10° which is what i need, how precise is the pass depends on how good is the player, not your direction. This is crucial, because even if i have available space to position the ball, maybe i don't want to give it so in advance.
    I remeber when passing was a challenge and enjoyied when i got a real nice pass just as i tought. I checked this with Ronaldinho, trying to give surprising through passes, which is impossible because AI chooses for you to which player will recieve based in a computed intention and locking the pass on a player.

    You can check this dynamic in Squad battles, in maximum difficulty. If you don't give enough input information to AI, Ai simply fails.
    All the game is a battle of directions and 'intentions' 80% of the time, but it does give you some manual moments, like when you have no opponent near or in dribbling movements. Succesful players are those who are quickier with the buttons rather than better football thinkers.

    Altough it is obvious that game's core is from 19', Fifa 20 has a lot of new player movements relative to ball control and touch areas, and i don't know if it is a new "equalization" of ball physics or really have new dynamics, but the one thing that is inmediately noticed is that the ball do small bounces which seems a little bit more realistic, and have consequences in your ball control. I have to say that this big nerf to AI defending is good, because you really have to tackle to win the ball, although this always had to be this way, and they didn't in '19 beacuase every play had turned undefendable last year (due to auto passing), anyway defenders are too slow when trying to follow one-two passes and i hope that when they patch this, don't give any "balance" to auto AI defense.

    Finally, i think that EA keeps asking for too much time from players. Besides squad battles, rivals and fut champions, you have to do almost every SBC to get a decent team, otherwise, it is impossible (unless you buy fifa points), plus, every daily and (new) season objectives that you have to get and if not you are left behind. Personally i think that ladder rank it not exciting (in a football game) and they have to get new tournaments, or leagues, or modes that are more related to the real game.
    I think that EA wanting to have a game for all kinds of players, will finally undermine their already bad reputation. Trying to please every player in their probably big Persona book, has hugely increased their community but raised hatred as well. Anyways, they have won enough money to cover 664 times the Camp Nou with a dollar-made sheet (US$4.6B, yes i did the math) so i don't think they worry too much about complaints, and there are plenty of players very happy with this flat skill competition.    … Expand

    This is my first review on metacrtic I always only read reviews and never bother reviewing games but this game man it's getting in my nerves year after year I gave it a chance but no more I had enough. I like everything that is football I played football games since 98 from fifa to pes. I lose against an idiot 7:1 just because he has 9 shpts on the goal and every player that he has Is highly rated. How the hell am i sušpose to play against that.     I think all the reasons have already been listed, but here goes: career has tons of bugs and glitches regarding transfers and league tables, player selection and the AI coach is straight retarded. Gameplay has improved in some aspects compared to fifa 19, especially the leg hitbox. As for the torso it has deteriorated extremely.
    Tldr: waste of money

    This is like a pay to win mobile game, the gameplay is not even fun. The packs are a waste of real money because most of the players you get from the packs are worthless and the game feels like it’s 100% scripted.

    I only play career mode the last couple of years and they didn't do anything cool with it. What they did? They made it buggy and unsatisfying to play to. Hate Volta and FUT. Never ever gonna touch these modern wanna be play modes

    Players morale very low, I only praise them congratulate everybody in the interviews.

    I don't understand why Fifa always delivers the new games with a lot of bugs and problems, this is the last year I buy Fifa on launch dates because they always fix the games like in October or November, so next time I will wait till November to play the fixed game and also I will save money because they always have a discount on November

    Career mode is broken for both early access and still for the full release. All EA care about is their dynamic surprise mechanics in FUT. If you want to play Fifa 20 just mess with the sliders on Fifa 19 because it seems that's what EA do then charge everyone full price each year. Con!

    Well, I bought it last week and already sold it. i should've bought Fifa 18 instead. Both are practically the same game but Fifa 18 is a little bit better. Besides EA is a bloodsucking fiend.

    FIFA 20 was an unsuccessful attempt to create a football game that would outperform others, the mistakes are more continuous and are always serious, that EA Sports does not recreate any games because it is a few misfits who program this, the WORST game of the year without hesitation.

    I love football games.. I bought this one discounted PS4, and received the Xbox copy as a gift the following week. And I had to fake being happy and say thank you. I had to fake being happy only because the game, and it's mechanics (and all the micro transactions) were a huge turn off.

    Please spend your money on games that are worth the money and time you spend.

    Very few changes from '19. They should stop releasing a new game every year; rather just update because its the same engine with few changes.

    FIFA 20 is a better football simulation in overall compared to FIFA 19, but it’s still lagging behind its main competitor greatly. EA is losing the race to Konami, at least in this generation of consoles, where they used to dominate.

    The new Volta mode is loads of fun, especially with some mates. But the overall FIFA experience is starting to creak, despite an impressive array of bells and whistles.
