When set against the non-VR first-person shooters, a genre in which only those games that have benefitted persistent, focused iteration and a king’s ransom of investment can now compete, Farpoint seems embryonic and amateurish. Its thrills are short-lived, but the lessons that can be drawn from its struggles in trying to transpose the genre into VR will surely echo for a long time to come.

PSVR owners should try this partially great FPS adventure, but Farpoint alone shouldn't prompt a PSVR purchase. Skip the Aim Controller.

PlayStation VR gets some much-needed support from Sony, but unfortunately Farpoint is a hollow novelty.

If Farpoint were a regular non-VR game it would be unremarkable at best. As a VR experience though, and as a demonstration of the effectiveness of a gun-shaped prop in virtual reality, it represents a ballsy, if embryonic, attempt to try and push things forward. It's experimental and – as something that tries to be a fully-fledged multi-hour "blockbuster" action game – is unusually daring for this period in VR. While we certainly won't ever look back on it as one of the great shooters of all time, we may come to look back at it as significant landmark in VR games.

They're comparing it to 2D games, but we're talking about two entirely different platforms in terms of delivery. You don't hold it against other first person shooters when they don't give you the same immersion that VR obviously gives you...so why would you be critical the other way around?

You just have to experience it for yourself. I'd like to meet the person who has a PSVR and chooses not to try this game and the AIM controller. Both are terrific.

    - aim controller needed
    conclusion:
farpoint is a very good vr game and shows vr shooters can work. Its not a masterpiece of a game, but for a vr game it is a masterpiece that will be known as probably the best vr shooter of 2017.
