I paid $10 for this game and that was $10 too much. The graphics can be alright at times, however the game is so boring. Crappy melee combat, dull and repetitive missions that are just fetch quests, a story that goes nowhere, etc.

    Please avoid this game.

Feels like a dumbed down version of the previous with animal buddies... options are scares and some things are just not imerssive or impressive. Not worth the money... get h1z1 or another farcry.

One of the greatest disappointment in this game is the immediate sense that this is a Far Cry 3 and 4 reskin with little or no added value to the series whatsoever. It is indeed a pretty game with a peculiar setting, but lacks any soul. The gameplay is repetitive to hell and makes you feel like doing the same thing all over again.
There some interesting components for this game but

There some interesting components for this game but overall its just the same mechanics from the other Far Cry games. The story is absolutely generic and a chore. Taming animals seems like a cheap way of playing once you reached the higher levels. In fact there is hardly any weapons in this game and you just become dependent on the animals.

I’ve played through all of the titles in the Far Cry series, since its inception with Jack Carver back in 2004. I recall playing through the original Far Cry with an AGP video card on my PC, that’s how old the series is!

I’ve played through all of the titles in the Far Cry series, since its inception with Jack Carver back in 2004. I recall playing through the original Far Cry with an AGP video card on my PC, that’s how old the series is!

Far Cry Primal really does something unique that open-world games don’t do. Ubisoft made the decision to set this game in the stone age, something that is really unprecedented. I don’t see many games taking place in that kind of setting.

Most games try not to make major risks. Notice how with the Assassin’s Creed series, only spinoffs and mobile games get unique settings, such as China and India? They can’t risk spending millions of dollars on a mainline AAA title only to have people disinterested. They’re testing the waters.

I’ve been in marketing myself in other industries, and what Ubisoft’s and other big marketing managers is probably thinking is that it’ll adversely affect their international sales. Any kind of risk that would international sales would likely be viewed as negative. Although the game is set in the stone age, it really just looks like jungle and more jungle. Really, the game just looks like a jungle from today’s world, not necessarily like how the world was actually like thousands of years ago.

There are a few mountains, but they’re not particularly exceptional. As well, most of the caves present in the game feel repetitive due to feeling like procedurally-generated content. I mean, it literally looks like a higher quality jungle recycled from one of the previous Far Cry’s. It reminded me a lot of Far Cry 2’s jungles, with improved graphics.

In this game, the characters speak an ancient, possibly fictitious language. I’m not sure why they did it. According to the developers, they researched words that may have been used back then to create this language, but it ends up being really hit or miss. You should check out some of the introductory cutscenes on YouTube to see if you’d like that or not. It ends up affecting all of the cutscenes and storyline. I won’t lie though, some of the cutscenes actually do feel creepy, which is good, since cavemen and cavewoman are supposed to feel threatening. But, you don’t get too many cutscenes in this game, possibly only a half hour to an hour of cutscenes are present in total.

Speaking of the storyline, the game is very short and the storyline isn’t really existent. This game almost seems like a bigger version of Far Cry: Blood Dragon, a spinoff from the main series. I feel that the developers really had the potential to create a better story with a longer campaign. The sidequests are very fetch-like and are not fun to do at all, though one can easily achieve a platinum trophy within 30-40 hours of game-time. The gameplay is fun, but the storyline makes it somewhat dull to trek through. The animals are also fun to hunt in the game, but again, animals have been present in the series since Far Cry 3 and no significant changes have really been made for the hunting system. It really does feel like performing the same thing again. This is really more of an expansion.

This game is almost exclusively melee combat, so if you weren’t particularly fond of melee combat in previous Far Cry games, you may want to avoid this title.

The game itself is strange to complete. The main missions aren’t really that obvious and, on occasion, actually feel like fetch quests themselves. It wasn’t until the end credits started rolling that I said, “Whoops. Finished the last mission.”

I really respect the risk the developers took with making the game take place in the stone age. But, I still feel that this game was a cash grab. As previously mentioned, pretty much all of the elements found within this title has been recycled from previous titles in the series. Consequently, if you’ve played those as well, it just feels like what you’ve played a few years ago. Not particularly fun, unfortunately. If you want to purchase this game, wait for the price to keep going down because it’s not worth it at the full price.

ALERT, DO NOT BUY ON PS5! Far Cry Primal freezes frequently, forcing you to restart from previous checkpoint or autosave. Materials gathered and animals skinned do not trigger autosave, so you have to collect all over again. Multi-stage bossfights with a lot going can also cause the game to freeze, so you'll be forced to do the fight from the first stage once more. Reinstalling the gameALERT, DO NOT BUY ON PS5! No other game on my console causes this, so it's definitely unique to this game. As Ubisoft will likely never patch an unsuccessful game from 2016, don't risk the purchase or the time sink. Expand

They removed the best feature of Far Cry which is coop. There is no excuse for this. They are basically stripping down Far Cry 4 and trying to sell it to you again for full price. I thought games were supposed to evolve with each version not devolve?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awful, Awful, Awful. I SWORE I would not buy another Far Cry game but I was desperate. I am soooooo sorry. As is typical of Ubisoft's warped thinking, the final boss fight negates everything you worked hard to get like formulas to make yourself fireproof and short range powerful weapons. Asinine and so damned irritating. The game SUCKS!!! NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expand

Why is that the next game is not afraid to show penises but the vagina is still taboo? Do you think that in prehistoric times women were completely covered? I hate feminist propaganda in games. Dear game developers... it's embarrassing. I will not support it.

It is all the boring parts of national geographic without the amazing Morgan Freeman commentary. Now I just need 50 more characters to complete this review.

If I wanted to play Harvest Moon I'd buy Harvest Moon. I'll just burn this edition from my memory (and literally) and wait for them to get back on point. "Hey, I've got an idea! Let's make the next Bond movie a comedy musical!"

Lowest difficulty settings, putting my SPEAR in the f'in HEAD of a WOLF TEN TIMES and IT kills me. Yes, I like casual gameplay, but even if it would be the hardest setting it would be unacceptable that a ANYTING living could take TEN STABS TO THE HEAD without dying.

The setting used to disguise the Far Cry we’ve already seen is fresh and wonderful, it’s easy to sink into this wild, beautiful, majestic world. Primal was put together skillfully, it’s not an outstanding game, but it’s so enjoyable that I devoured it hour after hour with an appetite of a cave bear. [04/2016, p.28]

The most innovative Far Cry since the second game, Primal is a tremendously enthralling streamlining of the series, and a powerful trip back in time. [Issue#268, p.70]
