If I wanted to play Harvest Moon I'd buy Harvest Moon. I'll just burn this edition from my memory (and literally) and wait for them to get back on point. "Hey, I've got an idea! Let's make the next Bond movie a comedy musical!"

If you are a fan of the FC series you will enjoy this 1 too. There are no guns, no wing suit, but it is a great gaming experience done 10,000 years BC. Long enough game to make it worth the money and plenty of the old tricks with a few new ones... I give it a strong 8 out of 10

A step back for the far cry franchise, especially after the enjoyable chaos of Far Cry 4. Ubisoft have tried for a different approach but ultimately your left with a Dull, bland and uninspiring game.

Also, it annoys me that they downgraded the graphics to a degree to make a smaller file size (only 12 GB??). While lighting is improved, textures are definitely duller and easily explains the huge drop in file size over Far Cry 4. WTF Ubi?

Este juego debió de haber sido como el Blood dragon, una expansión que no necesita del juego original para jugarse, a precio reducido y con el carisma y originalidad del mismo, pero no hay que sacar un juego repetitivo y a precio completo.

I could take entire settlements just using animals, sometimes the bombs the owl dropped were almost enough.

While in the fourth game of the series we had some difficult side missions, having to be completely stealth to save captive allies, or doing an assassination, in this game we can just swing our weapon crazily that it will make little difference. The scenery is perfect, the game is gorgeous, the story is simple, but very truthful and objetive, I really thought I was playing a masterpiece at the beginning.

As the game progressed I became simply too powerful, there were no tension about stealthily taking down all the opponents like in previous games when I would feel like I'm a great player when I took a settlement without being seem. The owl should not throw bombs, we should not have such powerful animals as allies or the enemies should be able to counter those powers in some way.
This game had everything to be the best of them, the best ambience, a nice story, that nice feeling about building your tribe, but the gameplay becomes boring at the end, as your power grows. I was expecting something on the line of the hindu archer warrior against demons we can see on the fourth game, those were great. Still it's a great game, I had a great time playing it, it just saddens me that it could be the best of the series, a 10/10 game, if just they added some challenge to the missions.

It’s a new spin for the franchise, and while it doesn’t quite achieve the level of greatness it needed to justify the series’ change up, Primal still ends up being a solid game on its own merits.

Primal takes place during the times of the caveman, where violence, hunting and general hostility are just par for the course in your daily life. You play as Takkar, a young caveman whose tribe is being threatened by a pair or rival tribes and their leaders. As the up and coming warrior and leader, it’s your responsibility to make sure neither of these tribes succeed in their takeover by taking out their leaders.

Due to its new caveman setting, Primal embraces every aspect of the time. Hunting and gathering resources are all key to crafting new items and weapons, as well as building and improving your home tribe and adding new features. Basically, the standard crafting and hunting from the Far Cry franchise has been expanded and improved upon in order to better fit the new setting.

With the new setting and the lack of features the modern Far Cry games provided, Primal instead adds new features to try and make up for their absence. The most prominent addition is the ability to tame animals, allowing you to use them as allies in battle or ride them across the land (if they’re big enough to ride).

As for combat against enemies, stealth is still just as fun as it has always been. Sneaking up on enemies from behind to deliver the killing blow and nailing headshots with your bow is just as satisfying as it has always been. Plus, the addition of the owl (the replacement for your binoculars) allows you to get a great view of the layout and the placement of enemies beforehand. You can also bring your tamed allies into stealth sections with you, but this only served to get me caught more often than naught.

However, it is a disappointment that Primal hasn’t built upon the melee combat in any significant way. Your only options in combat are to take your melee weapon, swing it, swing it harder, or throw it. While it feels and looks satisfying, the lack of variety in your attacks, as well as the lack of dashing or dodging makes melee combat feel too simple. Plus, once you unlock the strongest club, melee combat is little more than a waste of time since losing is impossible.

However, this is something you’ll find across the board with Primal. Despite taking away features in order to create a game set in caveman times, Primal hasn’t done much to replace what’s been taken away. This is true in melee combat, stealth, and even the upgrade system. When it comes to upgrades, there aren’t many new additions. In fact, a lot of abilities you had by default in previous games have been locked behind an upgrade in an effort to cover up for the lack of new abilities, which is disappointing.

In fact, it seems to affect Primal’s campaign and side content as well. Like every Ubisoft game, the world is filled to the brim with small side missions to do, and just like every Ubisoft game, very few of these missions are actually worth doing. Most side missions end up being little more than busywork, while certain missions like liberating outposts and hunting legendary creatures end up being the highlights. As for the game’s campaign, while the world of Primal has its fair share of interesting characters and story lines, the campaign missions themselves don’t feel very special. Most mission objectives feel very par for the course, while other missions feel completely unnecessary since they don’t actually drive the plot forward. It doesn’t help that Primal’s ending doesn’t exactly feel satisfying, and the two boss fights given to you at the end aren’t very fun.

That’s the main problem with Far Cry Primal. In its prehistoric setting, Primal has stripped so many features and mechanics the modern Far Cry games have available but fails to make up for their absence. While the owl and animal taming are steps in the right direction, the lackluster side content, underwhelming campaign missions, simplified melee combat, and even a lack of new upgrades, Primal feels like it didn’t do enough to actually justify the travel back in time.

The core of Far Cry Primal is still good, and still enjoyable for the most part, but it’s hard not to look at the lack of features present in Far Cry 3 and 4 and feel Primal comes up a little short. It’s still fun, but it doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy it just because you’re a fan of Far Cry.

I’ve played through all of the titles in the Far Cry series, since its inception with Jack Carver back in 2004. I recall playing through the original Far Cry with an AGP video card on my PC, that’s how old the series is!

Far Cry Primal really does something unique that open-world games don’t do. Ubisoft made the decision to set this game in the stone age, something that is really unprecedented. I don’t see many games taking place in that kind of setting.

Most games try not to make major risks. Notice how with the Assassin’s Creed series, only spinoffs and mobile games get unique settings, such as China and India? They can’t risk spending millions of dollars on a mainline AAA title only to have people disinterested. They’re testing the waters.

I’ve been in marketing myself in other industries, and what Ubisoft’s and other big marketing managers is probably thinking is that it’ll adversely affect their international sales. Any kind of risk that would international sales would likely be viewed as negative. Although the game is set in the stone age, it really just looks like jungle and more jungle. Really, the game just looks like a jungle from today’s world, not necessarily like how the world was actually like thousands of years ago.

There are a few mountains, but they’re not particularly exceptional. As well, most of the caves present in the game feel repetitive due to feeling like procedurally-generated content. I mean, it literally looks like a higher quality jungle recycled from one of the previous Far Cry’s. It reminded me a lot of Far Cry 2’s jungles, with improved graphics.

In this game, the characters speak an ancient, possibly fictitious language. I’m not sure why they did it. According to the developers, they researched words that may have been used back then to create this language, but it ends up being really hit or miss. You should check out some of the introductory cutscenes on YouTube to see if you’d like that or not. It ends up affecting all of the cutscenes and storyline. I won’t lie though, some of the cutscenes actually do feel creepy, which is good, since cavemen and cavewoman are supposed to feel threatening. But, you don’t get too many cutscenes in this game, possibly only a half hour to an hour of cutscenes are present in total.

Speaking of the storyline, the game is very short and the storyline isn’t really existent. This game almost seems like a bigger version of Far Cry: Blood Dragon, a spinoff from the main series. I feel that the developers really had the potential to create a better story with a longer campaign. The sidequests are very fetch-like and are not fun to do at all, though one can easily achieve a platinum trophy within 30-40 hours of game-time. The gameplay is fun, but the storyline makes it somewhat dull to trek through. The animals are also fun to hunt in the game, but again, animals have been present in the series since Far Cry 3 and no significant changes have really been made for the hunting system. It really does feel like performing the same thing again. This is really more of an expansion.

This game is almost exclusively melee combat, so if you weren’t particularly fond of melee combat in previous Far Cry games, you may want to avoid this title.

The game itself is strange to complete. The main missions aren’t really that obvious and, on occasion, actually feel like fetch quests themselves. It wasn’t until the end credits started rolling that I said, “Whoops. Finished the last mission.”

I really respect the risk the developers took with making the game take place in the stone age. But, I still feel that this game was a cash grab. As previously mentioned, pretty much all of the elements found within this title has been recycled from previous titles in the series. Consequently, if you’ve played those as well, it just feels like what you’ve played a few years ago. Not particularly fun, unfortunately. If you want to purchase this game, wait for the price to keep going down because it’s not worth it at the full price.

There was a lot of variety between missions. The world is great, I really liked that aspect of this game. Also, my favorite thing about this game by far, is the HUNTING. It is amazing! There is a mission where you hunt a tall elk in the story and I was having a fantastic time all throughout that mission. And there are also these 4 missions you get, where you hunt 4 great beasts, and those are some of the best missions in the game. And I don't say that implying that the other missions are bad, I say that implying that those missions are absolutely incredible. Now, so far I've just been saying positives, so the 7/10 doesn't make much sense yet. So I will now talk about my problems with the game. The combat is fun, but there just isn't enough to it. There's no 'block' button or anything. It is literally just hit, and it gets extremely repetitive. I don't understand how there's at least no parry button, at the very least. I still would expect more than just a parry and hit button but it's absolutely absurd that there isn't a parry button. Now, the taming system, how you can tame beasts, is SUPER cool! Although, it is WAY too easy. You literally drop a piece of bait, and hold square. There needs to be some sort of button sequence or something that is actually difficult, and that actually gets harder depending on the level of beast you're taming. It's just so weird to me that no one at Ubisoft really thought about something like that. So, the 2 most important components to this Far Cry game in its own right, are very flawed. That's why I gave it a 7/10. The plot is mediocre, though I didn't expect anything too crazy, and the combat and taming system are lackluster at best. Expand

I do. I mean, I love the Far Cry games. I love running around huge open worlds, finding lots of little secrets hidden everywhere and collecting loads of stuff and resources. If you like that, well then you'll like this game.
This may sound stupid, but in the beginning I actually missed not having guns. I know stupid seeing how the game is set 10.000 B.C. That soon subsided after getting a few weapon upgrades. It is really quite awesome running through the jungle "sniping" animals and enemies with your bow. Great fun.
I also really loved the whole open world. As always in Far Cry games it is huge, varied and just fun to explore.
The missions are your usual Far Cry kind of ones, what isn't a bad thing. You start out doing errands for people and later become the big chief. Ha ha.

I really enjoyed the game and it took me about 24 hours to get the platinum trophy. I wasn't really aiming for the trophy most of the time, just doing missions (there are lots), capturing bonfires/outposts, hunting animals (the hunter sense is a cool new feature), etc.

    Try it and have fun.

This time, the setting is 10,000 B.C. and you're let loose in a very...primitive world. It's a fight for survival. There are no guns, just clubs, spears and bows and arrows. The first thing you'll notice are the pretty visuals. It's not groundbreaking, but it's definitely easy on the eyes. The day and night cycles are well done and both offer their own unique visual flair. The gameplay is unchanged for the most part this time around, but that isn;t necessarily a bad thing. The series has found its formula and it works just fine. The problem with that is, aside from unique settings, things tend to get stale at times. The game consists of many tasks such as helping the Wenja from enemies (tribespeople), exploring caves, hunting, capturing outposts and claiming campfires. You will also be able to tame wild beasts such as wolves and wildcats...and even sabertooth tigers. By doing so, the respective animal will stay by your side as a companion to give you an extra level of assurance when exploring or going into battle. One of the most fun things to do is seek out and rescue certain characters, who in turn will help you do things such as craft new items or learn new abilities. You'll have a camp where you are able to aid them in build and upgrade their tents so they can return the favor. It's a cool idea that is very rewarding. The upgrade system is typical Far Cry and it's quite well done. Learning new abilities and upgrading weapons is enjoyable.

Overall, Far Cry Primal is a very fun game that can be addicting at times. But other times, it can become somewhat of a bore because of the tedious missions. The story doesn't really pull you in either because you could care less about the characters. In the end, this game is all about exploring the vast land full of surprises.

I don't get the hate for this game at all. The devs attempted something different and in my opinion, they mostly succeeded. I get the same exhilarating feeling as the last FC games when I throw a bee bomb/fire bomb at the enemies and hear them scream (what voice acting !) while I bludgeon the other enemies to death with my clubs and spears. It's especially fun just throwing your stone club in the enemies face and watching blood spurt out of their head. Then there's the animals, traps and poison bombs. My point is that the developers gave me lot of satisfying ways to kill an enemy so the game never became boring, which is a huge surprise. The stealth too seemed samey at first but I like how they added new animations (clubbing people in the head is hilarious), more satisfying sounds (love the sound of the shard hitting the target's head/neck) and death animation to keep the same stealth take downs fun. The rating would be higher if it had a better and focused story and more defined characters. Expand

This is a Far Cry game unlike any other. I enjoyed Far Cry 4 but felt that it was too similar to the previous game in the series (I actually enjoyed Far Cry 3 a lot more). Primal however is in my honest opinion far better than any of the previous far cry games and considering this game has no vehicles other than the ability to ride animals, no guns and no modern day equipment that is a very bold statement indeed!

This game feels so different to the previous games in the series but still manages to feel like a Far Cry game. You still have stealth based missions, you still have to complete side quests, you still have to conquer outposts. But even though all these staples of the series remain, the fact that you use bows and arrows, spears, clubs and a variety of other weapons instead of modern day guns completely changes how you play the game. To me it feels more brutal and the aiming is much more difficult in a good way. More focus is placed on hand to hand combat. What I am trying to get at is although this is still a Far Cry game it is different enough to make it so much more enjoyable than the fourth game managed to be!

I also love that there is a great focus on scavenging, you feel inclined to keep picking up all the resources you come across, just in case you will need them in the future to upgrade equipment and even build and upgrade villages which is totally new to a Far Cry game. Also new you can tame most of the wild animals to do your bidding when you want them to, with each animal having their own special ability, which in all honesty I personally never use there abilities, I mainly always use them to kill or ride on.

Ignore the haters they try to ruin anything that's popular. This is a great game and surprisingly my favourite in the series so far.

The setting used to disguise the Far Cry we’ve already seen is fresh and wonderful, it’s easy to sink into this wild, beautiful, majestic world. Primal was put together skillfully, it’s not an outstanding game, but it’s so enjoyable that I devoured it hour after hour with an appetite of a cave bear. [04/2016, p.28]

The most innovative Far Cry since the second game, Primal is a tremendously enthralling streamlining of the series, and a powerful trip back in time. [Issue#268, p.70]
