    Despite the average review, I think Far Cry Primal was thoroughly enjoyable. The story and the base system could be improved to be more engaging, with complex base building and meaningful interactions like fallout 4?, but the world was beautifully crafted with details.

    This game is different from a lot of games I've played. If you have an interest in ancient humans this is the game for you. I played the game at release, never finished, and played the game a couple weeks ago again. If you are a fan of Far Cry you may like it, if you like hunting in dangersous areas with crazy prehistoric beasts you will like it.

    As a somewhat big Far Cry fan, I was little unsure about Far Cry being set in the days of Cavemen, but nonetheless I was interested, a Far Cry game playing as a hairy club wielding cave dweller hunting Mammoths and riding Sabre tooth cats was hard to resist, I kinda figured out I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as Far Cry 3 and 4 but, I may be surprised. It was different to the usualAs a somewhat big Far Cry fan, I was little unsure about Far Cry being set in the days of Cavemen, but nonetheless I was interested, a Far Cry game playing as a hairy club wielding cave dweller hunting Mammoths and riding Sabre tooth cats was hard to resist, I kinda figured out I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as Far Cry 3 and 4 but, I may be surprised. It was different to the usual games of course you're not going to get guns and cars and planes in 10.000BC, and if you did it would ruin the atmosphere (no pun intended) of the game. But overall I enjoyed the game, getting 100% trophies the first game ever to get 100% on but they were very easy to get, the gameplay was good I thought the story line was great even though I felt it was short, I loved the cinematics, and the effort put into making a believable Caveman like language, I was impressed with the realism of that. I enjoyed the conflict with the Neanderthals, not an enemy you come across in most games haha, overall I enjoyed it, it was breathtaking amazing, but I really did enjoy it, it's not a game I would ever play again, since getting everything for it and nothing would change the second time around, but as a one off game, meaning a game I wouldn't ever come back to, I did enjoy it and it's worth getting.… Expand

    Using bows and spears etc was a welcome change over other similar games with an arsenal of weaponry, characters speak in tribal language like old fashioned cavemen movies.

    I was really enjoying while playing this game, totally different then other parts.
    Atmosphere and gameplay was great, but story and repetitive quests makes this game very mediocre.
    Anyway I can recommend to Far cry fans

    I played this on the PS5 so that could be why it froze 11 times during my playthrough (Mostly when using a waypoint).
    Grapple hook chain doesn't work in some areas. Like on the mountain northeast of the village. There is also an issue where the character won't grab ledges with vines after repeated attempts. This is only in certain areas like at the daysha hand ledge near Pardaku Lookout.    I played this on the PS5 so that could be why it froze 11 times during my playthrough (Mostly when using a waypoint).

    Sometimes R2 doesn't make the character draw back on his bow (This was a constant issue for me and my girlfriend in this game and I'm glad to see this was fixed in the subsequent games).
    It also kept constantly changing from the club to the two-handed club without my permission. This was extremely annoying.

    Aside from those issues, I had a ton of fun playing this game. It's probably my favorite installment (I platinumed 3, 4, 5, and New Dawn). The passion they put into this game - as well as the lack of microtransactions and ads like the new games have - was wildly appreciated and made the experience that much better. While I wish the language was in english since I hate subtitles, I do respect they went out of their way to make a language for the game. The characters were all very interesting and unique. The environment and mechanics for the time it was released are fantastic.
    If this had at least co-op to enjoy the story with someone else it would have been even better.    … Expand

    FC Primal was my first ever game in the Far Cry franchise. This game was also my first Platinum on PS4. Far Cry games were a stranger to me and since they were numbered, I decided to buy and play a spin-off title. For having absolutely no understanding of the language in this game, the gameplay was actually quite fun. Surviving during the Mesopotamia period was very unique and the graphicsFC Primal was my first ever game in the Far Cry franchise. This game was also my first Platinum on PS4. There were annoying times where badgers did not spawn and collecting materials for upgrades were very annoying. The addition of survival mode was a game-changer.     On the whole, the process of survival in the open world seemed amusing. The developers maximally realized the potential of a poor set of primitive weapons, so it is interesting to play with it. Taming animals was a good idea. It’s bad that the plot is linear, which clearly does not correspond to the concept of an open world. Why not make a few branches like Fallout 4?

    Love the whole stone age setting, game play was good but certain abilities and items got overpowered real quick even on expert/survival mode (cough, Beserker shard/bomb). Wasn't a fan of the Wenja tribe being multi racial, I doubt cave people who were killing each other for being another tribe were that inclusive.

    Como primer juego que tuve para PS4, lo disfruté al máximo. De lejos el Far Cry que más me ha entretenido junto al 3 y claro, que fuera el que me hizo estrenar la consola suma en la ilusión que le metí.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a surprise hit for me. I went into it not expecting much since I heard plenty of negative stuff about it from members of the Far Cry community. But I was pleasantly surprised by everything about it from the world, the gameplay, the characters and the story. It was quite a ride, from start to finish and I loved every moment of it. It's one of the few games I strove to get the Platinum trophy on.

    I think a lot of people throw hate on this game because they're just lovers of cars and guns. Which, lets face it, those aren't going to be in a game where you play as a cave man. To be honest, there's a lot of effort in this game, from just the details in the world, to the easter eggs you get to past Far Cry games and others to one of the things that impressed me the most, the language that seemingly was made up for the games prehistoric characters.

    After playing this game so much, I attempted it on permadeath mode for the fun of it, but wound up rage quitting several times in a row over the course of multiple days, so if you're someone who's pulled off permadeath mode in Far Cry Primal, I tip my hat to you.

    The gameplay switches out guns and cars for bows, spears and animals. Yes, you read that right, you get to ride animals. There's a lot of fun in the animal companion system as well. You can tame wild animals and have them fight along side you in combat. And each animal has different uses, so for example, a panther will be more stealthy than a tiger, making them better for stealth quests, but tigers do better in battle. You also have legendary animals to hunt, which you can tame and are just beefed up versions of the other animals, but they look awesome as well. Still, my personal favourite is the honey badger. Nothing pleases me more than sending one of those things at an enemy cave man and seeing it claw him to death.

    The games boss battles aren't anything special, but they're still fun with some amazing soundtracks to go along with them. And the game does an amazing job of actually making you feel you're in a prehistoric world, and playing as the cave man Takkar, you feel like quite the power house as Takkar is strong to start with and only gets more powerful as the game progresses and you unlock more equipment and abilities. It also helps he's voiced by Elias Toufexis, the man who provided the voice for Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex games.

    Overall, there was so very much to truly enjoy in this game. Plenty of gorgeous places in the game to visit, with snowy mountain tops, flowing rivers, grasslands and even some drylands that all boast different challenges, be it survivng in the cold or the different animals that call it home. And it's in the environment the games graphics really do shine, I can tell you.

    Some of the best moments will come from the side characters who will be equally amusing as well as interesting. They don't ever seem to bore you and they don't get wasted with pointless moments. Every moment with all of them is a moment worth experiencing. And every single of them will play with emotions on some level, be it from the resident witch doctor to a member of your tribe who isn't someone who was meant to be there.
    Takkar's journey from start to finish is one that is worth experiencing and one I can say is a surprisingly good one. The door is left open for a sequel at the end as well, which I do hope one day this is a franchise visited again by Ubisoft, but unfortunately, due to the mass amount of backlash that this game got, I don't think they'll dare to venture into it again since it seems the majority of the fan base want the same old guns and cars.

    I've enjoyed over Far Cry games before, but this one just had something about it that was a nice change of pace. It was just more enjoyable to charge into a crowd of cannibals riding the back of a sabertooth tiger, have him kill the one you pounced on, then you disembark and take down the others with spears, bows and even slings that hurl rocks at your enemies. If you hit them in the head, it's a very satisfying kill, making you feel like quite the David vs Goliath.

    Far Cry Primal is far from perfect, but it's a very worthwhile experience and a game definitely worth grabbing with its now low price.

    If you're willing to try something new from a franchise that has done the same old thing repeatedly, this is something that's worth looking into.

    A far cry game with a twist. The setting alone is enough to help this game stand apart from the rest of the series. Although the gameplay might not have the depth available as the other offerings the world and the atmosphere help to give this a level of charm which carries through the whole game. Theres nothing else really out there that lets you live out a cave man fantasy like this.

    You get access to many weapons and accessories in your arsenal but the main weapons will consist of a bow and closed ranged combo with a club or spear. Combat itself was quite fun and addicting.

    Overall this was a solid play and completionists will find that they would be able to finish off everything is about 30 hours.    … Expand

The first thing you'll notice are the pretty visuals. It's not groundbreaking, but it's definitely easy on the eyes. The day and night cycles are well done and both offer their own unique visual flair. The gameplay is unchanged for the most part this time around, but that isn;t necessarily a bad thing. The series has found its formula and it works just fine. The problem with that is, aside from unique settings, things tend to get stale at times. The game consists of many tasks such as helping the Wenja from enemies (tribespeople), exploring caves, hunting, capturing outposts and claiming campfires. You will also be able to tame wild beasts such as wolves and wildcats...and even sabertooth tigers. By doing so, the respective animal will stay by your side as a companion to give you an extra level of assurance when exploring or going into battle. One of the most fun things to do is seek out and rescue certain characters, who in turn will help you do things such as craft new items or learn new abilities. You'll have a camp where you are able to aid them in build and upgrade their tents so they can return the favor. It's a cool idea that is very rewarding. The upgrade system is typical Far Cry and it's quite well done. Learning new abilities and upgrading weapons is enjoyable.

    Overall, Far Cry Primal is a very fun game that can be addicting at times. But other times, it can become somewhat of a bore because of the tedious missions. The story doesn't really pull you in either because you could care less about the characters. In the end, this game is all about exploring the vast land full of surprises.    … Expand

    The idea of an African sounding language being spoken with subtitles to tell the story is great. One concern I had with Primal, was the lack of vehicles and weapons,    I'm glad this game exists. It's a pretty unique concept, and beutifully crafted.
    There's a lot of fun to be had in a prehistoric world with proto-human species battling it out, and ancient predatory animals roaming around.

    One concern I had with Primal, was the lack of vehicles and weapons, making things more boring, but you can ride the animals fairly early if you level up the relevant skill trees, and the bow covers the range weapons well.
    Plus if you progress through the beast master missions quickly you can control all sorts of animals including an owl which makes outpost battles far more interesting, it becomes most of a rts than fps so adds a lof of variety.

    I like the Far Cry DLC / extra games, Far Cry Blood Dragon was an incredible experience, and primal is equally fascinating and well made.
    My biggest issue with Far Cry Primal, is that they decided to turn this into a fully massive game. I spent over 35 hours with Far Cry Primal, which is far more than i did with Blood Dragon.
    There are tons to explore, and hundreds of side quests and areas to explore.
    On one hand, it's great to have to much to do, on the other, it got very repetitive and dull after the 15 hour mark.
    The story is incredibly shallow and really doesn't justify a full game. The story is incredibly simplistic and the dialog very basic. WHich makes sense for the setting, but doesn't make sense on why the game was drawn out so long.
    The side quests are very very repetitive, you do the same 5 mission types hundreds of times over.

    This would have been an incredible DLC for Far Cry 4. I can't see why Ubisoft wuld've decided to turn this into a full game and not flesh out a real plot, other than for doubling the cost of the game.
    There's really no reward for doing all the side quests either. If you skip the side quests and just focus on the story and the village you basically do everything anyway.

    I have played both Far Cry 3 and 4 and playing primal made me pine for those older games. Simply put I don't think the addition of animal companions makes up for the lose of guns. Had they put a better melee system that was anything other than running up to somebody and button mashing then that could have alleviated much of my dissatisfaction. I mean it makes sense right?     I did nothing but rag on the game and that's probably because of expectations. It really is a fun game. The crazy characters fit in more in this time period than they ever did, collecting and crafting is a time sinker during which a lot of cool things could happen in the world, and riding your sabertooth tiger as he maws people to death as you beat people with clubs is very satisfying.

    So, good game but I wanted more. I don't think they needed to innovate with Far Cry but with such a drastic change in setting some innovation could have went a long way.    … Expand

It’s a new spin for the franchise, and while it doesn’t quite achieve the level of greatness it needed to justify the series’ change up, Primal still ends up being a solid game on itsIt's fairly surprising to see Ubisoft take its number one shooter franchise and turn it completely on its head, ditching the guns and vehicles and replacing them with clubs, spears, and prehistoric animals. It’s a new spin for the franchise, and while it doesn’t quite achieve the level of greatness it needed to justify the series’ change up, Primal still ends up being a solid game on its own merits.

    Primal takes place during the times of the caveman, where violence, hunting and general hostility are just par for the course in your daily life. You play as Takkar, a young caveman whose tribe is being threatened by a pair or rival tribes and their leaders. As the up and coming warrior and leader, it’s your responsibility to make sure neither of these tribes succeed in their takeover by taking out their leaders.

    Due to its new caveman setting, Primal embraces every aspect of the time. Hunting and gathering resources are all key to crafting new items and weapons, as well as building and improving your home tribe and adding new features. Basically, the standard crafting and hunting from the Far Cry franchise has been expanded and improved upon in order to better fit the new setting.

    With the new setting and the lack of features the modern Far Cry games provided, Primal instead adds new features to try and make up for their absence. The most prominent addition is the ability to tame animals, allowing you to use them as allies in battle or ride them across the land (if they’re big enough to ride).

    As for combat against enemies, stealth is still just as fun as it has always been. Sneaking up on enemies from behind to deliver the killing blow and nailing headshots with your bow is just as satisfying as it has always been. Plus, the addition of the owl (the replacement for your binoculars) allows you to get a great view of the layout and the placement of enemies beforehand. You can also bring your tamed allies into stealth sections with you, but this only served to get me caught more often than naught.

    However, it is a disappointment that Primal hasn’t built upon the melee combat in any significant way. Your only options in combat are to take your melee weapon, swing it, swing it harder, or throw it. While it feels and looks satisfying, the lack of variety in your attacks, as well as the lack of dashing or dodging makes melee combat feel too simple. Plus, once you unlock the strongest club, melee combat is little more than a waste of time since losing is impossible.

    However, this is something you’ll find across the board with Primal. Despite taking away features in order to create a game set in caveman times, Primal hasn’t done much to replace what’s been taken away. This is true in melee combat, stealth, and even the upgrade system. When it comes to upgrades, there aren’t many new additions. In fact, a lot of abilities you had by default in previous games have been locked behind an upgrade in an effort to cover up for the lack of new abilities, which is disappointing.

    In fact, it seems to affect Primal’s campaign and side content as well. Like every Ubisoft game, the world is filled to the brim with small side missions to do, and just like every Ubisoft game, very few of these missions are actually worth doing. Most side missions end up being little more than busywork, while certain missions like liberating outposts and hunting legendary creatures end up being the highlights. As for the game’s campaign, while the world of Primal has its fair share of interesting characters and story lines, the campaign missions themselves don’t feel very special. Most mission objectives feel very par for the course, while other missions feel completely unnecessary since they don’t actually drive the plot forward. It doesn’t help that Primal’s ending doesn’t exactly feel satisfying, and the two boss fights given to you at the end aren’t very fun.

In its prehistoric setting, Primal has stripped so many features and mechanics the modern Far Cry games have available but fails to make up for their absence. While the owl and animal taming are steps in the right direction, the lackluster side content, underwhelming campaign missions, simplified melee combat, and even a lack of new upgrades, Primal feels like it didn’t do enough to actually justify the travel back in time.

    Like Sleeping Dogs where the majority of the game you don't use guns, cause they're illegal to own in China. Smart reason to focus more on awesome fighting. I was expecting to see that here but the mechanics are still the same. Of course there's the bow but the melee weapons feel like your swinging a crowbar in Half Life 1. I would have liked to see the melee weapon attacks be really fleshed out with a cool new system behind them but they're just short ranged guns... if that makes any sense.

    There are a lot of new ideas which I love but when the mechanics are so similar it makes it difficult to feel like I'm playing a new game. It's not a bad game but it's not a good Far Cry game. As just a game goes it's pretty good and fun to play. But the major problem people had with Far Cry games were how repetitive the gameplay would become. Capture outpost, scout the area then do a mission. Rinse repeat. This game needed a more in depth gameplay style to match the combat but eventually you fall under that same cycle as previous games.

    Lastly if the mechanics don't stick out from previous games, the visuals will. If you played Far Cry 4 you'll notice It doesn't look any different aside from the prehistoric theme. Which makes me disappointed because Far Cry 3 was an incredible looking game... at the time. It blew other open world games out the water with impressive visuals and its beautiful landscapes. Sadly they've riding that same engine for a long time now.

    The gameplay is the same Far Cry classic recipe but with the primal twist, that being said I can't help but feel like all they have done is send that previous protagonist back in time and taken his guns and cars away.
    Visually the game is stunning and the scenery is amazing - with very nicely modeled wildlife that dynamically interacts within itself and forms a sense of ecosystem.
    If I was to be perfectly honest I would say I am disappointing with the game, I love me some brutal barbaric combat and making my alpha wolf attack enemies as much as the next guy but with ll the changes it brings it doesn't bring anything new to the soul of the game and whilst I love Far Cry, I'm afraid I had much higher hopes for this one.

    Story - 4/10

    Far Cry Primal had a lot of good ideas. Being able to tame animals and going for only spears and bows as weapons. It succeeds in some areas and fails in some. But if you are a Far Cry fan you will enjoy it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really excited to get this game being a fan of FC 2 - 4. The environment is beautiful and made more stunning by the night and day cycles. The developers took a big risk with the setting and the fact that guns weren't invented therefore (guess what...no guns!!).

    Combat is interesting and has good physics with bodies responding to arrows to head or that double handed club smash to the jaw.

    The scouting method involving your owl is clever allowing certain perks to be unlocked like dropping a bomb of bees or fire bombs etc.

    The animal companion is where it goes downhill. The beginning I loved due to the fact that it puts alot of emphasis on survival and preparation of weapons especially at night. But once you've tamed the strongest animals like the Sabre Tooth and Cave Bears it gets a bit boring because they are so OP. I like taking the jaguar as its quick and stealthy but you still need to give it alot of support. The Great Hunts as very exciting and needs you to prepare.

    The story to me is the big let down. The protagonist is boring and forgettable. The several NPC's that help you are actually more interesting than Tekken or Takker or whatever the fk his name is (See I've forgotten already). The story is pretty linear, save your tribe from extinction by wiping out the other tribes.

    The bosses, even though there's 2 of them are also not worth mentioning. Boss fights, there are no tactics as they are complete bullet...sorry...arrow sponges and you just end up siccing your pets on them as soon as you run out of ammo.

    There is no Co Op which is a bummer, it would of been fun with a friend even for a Split Screen game. I think they didn't fully recover with the failed attempt of Co Op in FC 4.

    Overall, I came to the conclusion of giving this game a 7.

    -1 No Multiplayer
    - 1.5 Boring, nearly non existent story and characters
    - 0.5 Difficulty (some of the tamed pets are so OP, that you could pull out a banana chair and let them do all the dirty work)    … Expand

Second the AI was extremely disappointing for me. Not for the people, I expect cave men to be dumb but the animals. Since this game is as hunting focused as it is action focused I expected animals to have realistic AI like stalking as packs and moving as herds. Animals are just the same as they always have been though if they see you they charge at you. And at night... ugh. The trailer said the predators would be dangerous which led me to believe they might just follow you in the shadows and wait for a moment until you're vulnerable. Not so, instead it means a pack of wolves spawns every 20 ft so you are literally fighting 6 packs of wolves per night every night. It kind of makes doing anything else at night a lot less enjoyable. The third and the biggest problem with the game I find is the crafting system. It seems like very little thought was put into this area because you can grind through everything in 10 hours if you want too. The fact there is no customization of weapons at all is painful to me. I imagined getting to paint my bow and maybe have a few carvings to pick from to put on it, some feathers, gemstones maybe, bones but you literally get 3 bows in the game. NO SIGNATURE WEAPONS like wtf?I only really ever use one bow and it looks hideous? That doesn't sound like Farcry... It was a great effort though, it just needed to innovate a bit more and maybe take a bit more from the survival games it wanted to be at times.… Expand

    The taming system in the game, although kind of underwhelming with its press one button taming mechanic, is fun to use your animal companion to infiltrate outposts and such and sneaking up on enemies with a sabertooth tiger, or just barging in riding atop a wild bear and reeking havoc. Although the unstealthyness of most of the animal companions leads stealth missions to be almost impossible as your animal friend will be spotted almost always and you cant help it unless you dismiss them all together, which is a shame.

    The story is arguably the biggest downfall of Far Cry Primal. Its very uninteresting and just feels like a cookie cut "Kill the oppressive bad guy, save our people" the main antagonist in primal is far under par of all the previous in the Far Cry series. He has no depth, No real personality, and just seams like they made a buff guy with blood and scars on him, gave him a cool name, and called it good. the second and final boss of the game is no different. the final boss fight is your typical overly hard wave defense, hurt boss, wave defense, hurt boss format and becomes very annoying with no checkpoints and mass amounts of heavy enemies that take forever to kill, and the boss in question using a bow that nearly one shots you. and after finishing both of the "bad guys" you are givin a very underwhelming "yay you did it, you save the wenja!" the wenja being the uninteresting NPCs that you really dont care about but the game revolves around saving them.

    so in conclusion, the gameplay is really fun, taming and animal battling is kind of meh, story is uninteresting and doesnt feel like it means anything, but a fun game if you your looking to just screw around in prehistoric times and ride animals and kill stuff.    … Expand

    I haven't finished the whole story yet, but what I have seen so far is very promising. I must admit I miss the wingsuit and the guns. The cars has been replaced by being able ride on sabretooth tigers, bears and mammoths.

There is a mission where you hunt a tall elk in the story and I was having a fantastic time all throughout that mission. And there are also these 4 missions you get, where you hunt 4 great beasts, and those are some of the best missions in the game. And I don't say that implying that the other missions are bad, I say that implying that those missions are absolutely incredible. Now, so far I've just been saying positives, so the 7/10 doesn't make much sense yet. So I will now talk about my problems with the game. The combat is fun, but there just isn't enough to it. There's no 'block' button or anything. It is literally just hit, and it gets extremely repetitive. I don't understand how there's at least no parry button, at the very least. I still would expect more than just a parry and hit button but it's absolutely absurd that there isn't a parry button. Now, the taming system, how you can tame beasts, is SUPER cool! Although, it is WAY too easy. You literally drop a piece of bait, and hold square. There needs to be some sort of button sequence or something that is actually difficult, and that actually gets harder depending on the level of beast you're taming. It's just so weird to me that no one at Ubisoft really thought about something like that. So, the 2 most important components to this Far Cry game in its own right, are very flawed. That's why I gave it a 7/10. The plot is mediocre, though I didn't expect anything too crazy, and the combat and taming system are lackluster at best.… Expand

    This is one of the most visually stunning games I have ever played, and the Stone Age setting & map really does offer a massive array of content to be explored. Unfortunately, the gameplay is just too repetitive - and is in essence a near-exact copy of Far Cry 4 when it comes to objectives and plot development. The interactive animals are a fun addition though.

    One annoying game mechanic is the hunter vision, which keeps turning itself off after a period of time. You can simply switch it back on, but having to do so get irritating.

    Another frustrating aspect is having to gather resources in order to progress further in some missions. This can be quite tedious since the resources are chance-based, removing any real challenge or skill.

    Overall, if you like Far Cry you should like this, however the lack of vehicles removes a lot of the fun of traversal. It's a game with an excellent premise but not a great execution.    … Expand

    I appreciate the village upgrade system. However, for those brave enough to complete this game for the "platinum trophy" I recommend arming yourself with patience while unlocking all the abilities in the ability tree. You will have to do almost all the side quests in the game to achieve this.

    It wears off quickly. It's a typical, paint-by-numbers Far Cry game but with less effort put into it because the game's time period and setting can be used as an excuse to defend the overall lack of effort and ingenuity.

    I'm a massive fan of FC3 and FC4. I thought the characters were absolutely brilliant and they kept me engaged throughout the whole game. FC Primal on the other hand I'm really struggling to be kept entertained. The story hasn't interested me at all and it feels like it's lost a lot of X factor.     I managed to platinum this game in about 20 hours or so. Maybe a little more, but not much. With that being said I have done everything the game has to offer. At a $60 price tag this game deserves a score of six (6). If it was a $20 game I would give it a eight (8)

    The map is recycled from Far Cry 4. At least the layout is the same. The setting while lush and beautiful is not enough to carry the game.

    Spears and bows are novel enough as well as a club, but it felt more like a knockoff Skyrim at times.

    The animal companions while cool at first totally ruin the game. Either they ruin a stealth run or if you do not need the XP they just eat everything and leave you little to fight. I unlocked the sabretooth tiger in about two or three hours. After that the game was boring. Also the owl is more like a pterodactyl in terms of power. Spamming the owl attack also ruined stealth missions.

    The characters were boring. I wanted to like them to get attached to them. To get into the story, but it just wasn't there. The voice acting/language was sort of authentic and cool, but without likeable characters it did nothing. Each character had 2 or 3 quests and that was it. More formulaic than story driven.

    The leveling mechanic worked well, but that will only get you halfway through the skill tree. The rest of the skill points are earned doing village missions. They were boring and grindy. It would have been faster to just dump two trees than have each character unlock a skill tree for Takkar. Some of the trees are downright useless.

    On the plus side, the game was not a grindy as Far Cry 4 with respect to crafting and finding materials.    … Expand

If it would have been a DLC for 20 dollars I would have rated it 7/10 but as it is its own game I give it a 6 for lack of content vs price. I would say the first 10 hours are really great. Sadly this didn't do anything for me - combat system is dull due to the dull weaponry (the limits of cavemen), the visuals are pretty but very, very similar to FC4, the upgrading system is just identical to FC4 - kill exotic animals, use skin for upgrade, repeat.     It is nice, but it hasn't got cooperative mode and multilayer mode, it is a pity, I enjoy a lot with the cooperative system of Far Cry 4.

    - Nice looking open world

    - most missions can be approached in any order you like

    - resource system was fun and kept you on your toes regarding what weapons to use

    Cons:
    - missions are incredibly dull, mainly fetch or kill missions with a few protect the AI thrown in for good measure, no one has ever liked protect missions and it is about time Ubisoft learnt this
    - terrible AI
    - Very dull combat due to only having three weapons throughout the game: club, bow & spear. They could have included so much more
    - The map is full of resources to loot and animals kill however, that is not a good enough reason to want to explore. There is a stupid amount of animals in certain areas. There is no way 4 sabre tooth lions and 7 leopards would live within a 50 metre radius of each other. This felt like a cheap way to extend the game time by making you have to fight endless amounts of animals
    - Travelling around the map is slow due to having no transport other than a sabre tooth lion 10-15 hours into the game
    - game is subtitled (it could not have been in English because of the time setting but I still class it as a con of the game)
    - only a few enemy classes
    - generally not as much fun as FC3 (I have not played 4 or 5)    … Expand

    My god i though far cry 5 got repetitive. This games is ok, i would recomend if you haven't played far cry 4. I had about 70 hours on f4 and coming to this gameplay, map, upgrades all feel the same. I stopped playing after about 10 hours so i didnt have much experience with the story.

    This game was a let down for me. Honestly, there are only so many stories you can tell in a pre-civilized setting, and so far none of them are interesting. It feels like someone took the hunting and drug abuse parts of FC 4 and made an entire game out of them. Like FC Blood Dragon, this feels like a cheap fix to tide you over until the next real Far Cry game comes out.

    Repetitive gameplay and a bland story that ruins the experience. You keep playing to see if that "story moment" starts to kick in. But it never happens. All the time is more of the same. Until the story mode is finished and is so disappointing.

    And I am not going back to finish side missions. It's a torture.

    Maybe ubisoft should think about creating more walking simulators in the game market. They already have the beautiful dunia engine...    … Expand

    Really cool game, and follows the Far Cry-concept and easily worth 7 or even low 8/10, if it weren't for the game kept crashing, still 6 years after release, now on PS5.
    Played it for 10 hours, has crashed 3 times already, leaving me to re-play up to 20 minutes each time. Lousy.

    Far Cry Primal is basically a reskin of every other Far Cry game. Nothing special but also nothing new added. I could never be bothered to finish the game as I found it a lot more tedious and boring. Gun play is what made Far Cry great but now its a melee focused game with no block feature. I would say don't waste your money.

    The best part of the game for me was taming the wild animals. Although I don't really like Kyrat, throwing spears and crushing Udam's heads with the big bludgeon was some nice experience.

    It takes everything Far Cry and dumbs it down or takes it away. It was just freaking boring through and through. It might be worth ten bucks sale price just for a quick play through if you really like the genre. Much better games to spend your time and money on.

The character upgrades are repetitive, and don't let you play the game your way, just the way the developers intended.

    Characters that are utterly forgettable and add very little to the game, barring one easter egg
    Massive profit margin on such a short experience

    The game did not age well. I played it 6 years after release and it looks much older. Gameplay-wise it follows the Ubisoft formula, which is getting a bit old now, too. The game crashes every day at least one time. That is not acceptable.

    Considering FC is a AAA franchise, Ubisoft should have no excuses on the graphics in FCP compared to FC4. Watchdogs was the second to last straw for me. That game and even the idea looked great at the E3 showing then the release looks like a downgraded version of GTA IV.

    Then the last straw was The Crew. What a horrible, glitchy mess that turned out to be. Instead of fixing it they just created The Crew: Wild Run and expected everyone to pay full price again! No apologies, no refunds, no goodwill gestures for wasting $60 on a game that was broken from the start.

    FCP looks like FarCry 0.5 because that waterfall in-game says it all. Ubisoft have continually screwed its customers and keeps getting away with it. Warner Bros. did this with Arkham Knight but they actually honored refunds and even gave those affected, all the Arkham games as a goodwill gesture.

    Ubisoft did nothing yet they are still allowed to screw gamers over with their rehashed crap.    … Expand

    Have to say I'm not impressed at all with this. It's ugly. Textures are horrible especially during the day. Really disappointing as this should look as good if not better than fc4. Feels like it's been rushed out the door. Probably trade it in tomorrow. Can't give it more than five but because they have a AAA budget no excuse for this - so it's a 3 (

    the only great thing here are the graphics and sound. childish characters and story, feels like it was made for kids. not enough violence like always in ubi games. also the capturing of enemy outposts is nowhere as fun as in farcry 4, just dull clubbin/stabbing. same old looting/crafting/skilltree system we have seen a million times before. really disappointed with this one

    This game is very boring. it's also a reskin of far cry 4's map. the story kinda sucks, and I did not have fun with this one... and game breaking glitches/bugs are present with some glitches also breaking your immersion. I could go on and on with this game but we'd be here all day. Overall a 3/10 don't play this game, I could barely get through it.

    The setting used to disguise the Far Cry we’ve already seen is fresh and wonderful, it’s easy to sink into this wild, beautiful, majestic world. Primal was put together skillfully, it’s not an outstanding game, but it’s so enjoyable that I devoured it hour after hour with an appetite of a cave bear. [04/2016, p.28]
