This far cry release is the best or close second for me the graphics are so good and almost all animals are tamable, and this game encourages you to decide different ways to solve problems you could use stealth, no stealth, wooly mammoths and way more ways to solve problems. This is why I think this game is very good.

A far cry game with a twist. The setting alone is enough to help this game stand apart from the rest of the series. Although the gameplay might not have the depth available as the other offerings the world and the atmosphere help to give this a level of charm which carries through the whole game. Theres nothing else really out there that lets you live out a cave man fantasy like this.

Gameplay consists of gathering, various open world tasks, hunting and exploring. The loop gets repetitive however Ubisoft has always allowed the player to tackle most objectives however the player sees fit depending on their playstyle which is enough to always keep the gameplay different.

You get access to many weapons and accessories in your arsenal but the main weapons will consist of a bow and closed ranged combo with a club or spear. Combat itself was quite fun and addicting.

Overall this was a solid play and completionists will find that they would be able to finish off everything is about 30 hours.

TAME AND RIDE A SABERTOOTH! HUNT THE MAMMOTHS! Hear a science backed reconstruction of proto-indoeuropean language! Tame a wild variety of animals! I mean the experience of hunting together with a cave lion?! It's **** mind-blowing! It's everything I ever wanted from a game AND MORE. I just completely and absolutely love it.

Brutal Stone Age survival action that is a lot of fun to play, but it's hard to believe how familiar the Far Cry formula feels even in a setting as different as this.

I played this on the PS5 so that could be why it froze 11 times during my playthrough (Mostly when using a waypoint).
Grapple hook chain doesn't work in some areas. Like on the mountain northeast of the village. There is also an issue where the character won't grab ledges with vines after repeated attempts. This is only in certain areas like at the daysha hand ledge near Pardaku Lookout.

Sometimes R2 doesn't make the character draw back on his bow (This was a constant issue for me and my girlfriend in this game and I'm glad to see this was fixed in the subsequent games).
It also kept constantly changing from the club to the two-handed club without my permission. This was extremely annoying.

Aside from those issues, I had a ton of fun playing this game. It's probably my favorite installment (I platinumed 3, 4, 5, and New Dawn). The passion they put into this game - as well as the lack of microtransactions and ads like the new games have - was wildly appreciated and made the experience that much better. While I wish the language was in english since I hate subtitles, I do respect they went out of their way to make a language for the game. The characters were all very interesting and unique. The environment and mechanics for the time it was released are fantastic.
If this had at least co-op to enjoy the story with someone else it would have been even better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a surprise hit for me. I went into it not expecting much since I heard plenty of negative stuff about it from members of the Far Cry community. But I was pleasantly surprised by everything about it from the world, the gameplay, the characters and the story. It was quite a ride, from start to finish and I loved every moment of it. It's one of the few games I strove to get the Platinum trophy on.

I think a lot of people throw hate on this game because they're just lovers of cars and guns. Which, lets face it, those aren't going to be in a game where you play as a cave man. To be honest, there's a lot of effort in this game, from just the details in the world, to the easter eggs you get to past Far Cry games and others to one of the things that impressed me the most, the language that seemingly was made up for the games prehistoric characters.

After playing this game so much, I attempted it on permadeath mode for the fun of it, but wound up rage quitting several times in a row over the course of multiple days, so if you're someone who's pulled off permadeath mode in Far Cry Primal, I tip my hat to you.

The gameplay switches out guns and cars for bows, spears and animals. Yes, you read that right, you get to ride animals. There's a lot of fun in the animal companion system as well. You can tame wild animals and have them fight along side you in combat. And each animal has different uses, so for example, a panther will be more stealthy than a tiger, making them better for stealth quests, but tigers do better in battle. You also have legendary animals to hunt, which you can tame and are just beefed up versions of the other animals, but they look awesome as well. Still, my personal favourite is the honey badger. Nothing pleases me more than sending one of those things at an enemy cave man and seeing it claw him to death.

The games boss battles aren't anything special, but they're still fun with some amazing soundtracks to go along with them. And the game does an amazing job of actually making you feel you're in a prehistoric world, and playing as the cave man Takkar, you feel like quite the power house as Takkar is strong to start with and only gets more powerful as the game progresses and you unlock more equipment and abilities. It also helps he's voiced by Elias Toufexis, the man who provided the voice for Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex games.

Overall, there was so very much to truly enjoy in this game. Plenty of gorgeous places in the game to visit, with snowy mountain tops, flowing rivers, grasslands and even some drylands that all boast different challenges, be it survivng in the cold or the different animals that call it home. And it's in the environment the games graphics really do shine, I can tell you.

Some of the best moments will come from the side characters who will be equally amusing as well as interesting. They don't ever seem to bore you and they don't get wasted with pointless moments. Every moment with all of them is a moment worth experiencing. And every single of them will play with emotions on some level, be it from the resident witch doctor to a member of your tribe who isn't someone who was meant to be there.
Takkar's journey from start to finish is one that is worth experiencing and one I can say is a surprisingly good one. The door is left open for a sequel at the end as well, which I do hope one day this is a franchise visited again by Ubisoft, but unfortunately, due to the mass amount of backlash that this game got, I don't think they'll dare to venture into it again since it seems the majority of the fan base want the same old guns and cars.

I've enjoyed over Far Cry games before, but this one just had something about it that was a nice change of pace. It was just more enjoyable to charge into a crowd of cannibals riding the back of a sabertooth tiger, have him kill the one you pounced on, then you disembark and take down the others with spears, bows and even slings that hurl rocks at your enemies. If you hit them in the head, it's a very satisfying kill, making you feel like quite the David vs Goliath.

Far Cry Primal is far from perfect, but it's a very worthwhile experience and a game definitely worth grabbing with its now low price.

If you're willing to try something new from a franchise that has done the same old thing repeatedly, this is something that's worth looking into.

    An 8/10 game.

Love the whole stone age setting, game play was good but certain abilities and items got overpowered real quick even on expert/survival mode (cough, Beserker shard/bomb). Wasn't a fan of the Wenja tribe being multi racial, I doubt cave people who were killing each other for being another tribe were that inclusive.

On the whole, the process of survival in the open world seemed amusing. The developers maximally realized the potential of a poor set of primitive weapons, so it is interesting to play with it. Taming animals was a good idea. It’s bad that the plot is linear, which clearly does not correspond to the concept of an open world. Why not make a few branches like Fallout 4?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry Primal is a passion project that needs to be respected, but not for the moral reasons of supporting unique ideas. Primal offers a gaming experience unlike so many others: putting you in a world that doesn’t have ANY of the technology, settings, or even languages that we experience in every other game. On top of that, though, is the most important reason… it’s great. What at first seemed like a silly DLC addition to Far Cry 4, Primal creates its own identity as far as hunting and gathering, crafting, and community go. It supports exploration and even demands it at times, completely placing the player in the shoes of a prehistoric caveman building a safe haven for other people that he comes across. The community is perhaps the most important aspect of this game as your tribe not only guides you through the many storylines but offers to help you build weapons to fight enemies, craft clothes to keep warm, and create antidotes to help survive. Truly, one of the most communal single-player games in recent memory.

Crafting is a mechanic that cannot be ignored as it is impossible for you to buy, trade, or barter in any way. Every arrow you shoot, spear you throw, club you swing, and all throwables are crafted by the player from materials gathered in the world. What seems like a chore becomes second-nature and a fun hobby while exploring. Cutting down trees for wood, breaking rocks for stone, picking flowers for medicine, and skinning animals for furs, fats, and hides are things I started to do without even thinking about it. What makes it more enjoyable, though, is that walking around this world was a breath of fresh air. Not a single unnatural noise, light source, or anything to obstruct the gorgeous view of the landscape. With sweeping fields, enormous mountains, dense forests, a breathtaking sky full of stars and Milky Way constellations, and animals that populate it all, this is a world that felt deep and lived-in.

The story is also a huge improvement on Far Cry 4, which not only lacked any sort of character arc/development, but ended with such a swift anticlimactic conclusion that left me wanted more and feeling let down. Primal has no sort of delusions of grandeur that it cannot support: it’s an intimate tale of a caveman seeking revenge on a sabertooth, and then realizing his duty in the world. In other words: he embarks on a Hero’s Journey, of sorts, as he learns about those around him and how to save his tribe. Reminiscent of Far Cry 3‘s protagonist, though not as strong, this caveman was fun to play as and it actually made sense how he learned to be able to handle weapons, hunt, and fight people. And fighting people was necessary as if you didn’t hunt them, they’d hunt you and your tribe. Really, this is what Far Cry 4 should have been instead of trying to be like Far Cry 3 Part II.

It’s not all perfect, though. The side missions, Tensay quests, and grappling mechanics became quite troublesome and even problematic at times. The side missions came in a wide assortment such as Beast Kill, Search & Rescue, Save Captive, Escort Wenja, and Tribal Clash but there were dozens of these scattered around the map and the rotation of five objectives became quite annoying. This is especially true to do the friendly AI being quite stupid. Tensay quests made this even more apparent as there were a few missions that would put you in the head of a mammoth as you guide your group to safety. The mammoths handled horribly and the friendly AI, again, was extremely irritating. All of the Tensay quests reminded me of the FC3 and FC4 “trip missions” but aside from the first one, were just annoying and repetitive.

Tensay’s missions brought back my least favorite missions of FC4 but there were quite a few references to previous games that I enjoyed very much. One of which was a nod to Blood Dragon, a direct reference that showcased the skeletal remains of the titular creature while cueing the Blood Dragon theme. No, not historically accurate but my god was it a great little addition.

Far Cry Primal is one of my favorite games in this franchise, thus far. Beating out even FC4, Primal goes to show that different can be good but it’s main flaw is that it’s not quite different enough: from itself or the others. Offering repetitive side quests and bringing back the exhausting trip-missions from the previous games, Primal weighs itself down by trying so hard to still be a Far Cry game. However, it does do enough to make a name for itself and solidify

    Are there any similar games?

This was my first, first person shooter action game. So this was a very unique experience.

    Favorite Character?

There was only one playable character but you did have support animals. I really liked using the Sabre-tooth tiger, it was powerful, fast and it would scare other animals away. Except for the Woolly rhino’s, if you looked at them they would just freak out and start charging you. Hands down the most temperamental animal in the game.

    Would you play it again?

If there is DLC absolutely but I played all I wanted to of the game.

    Any Complaints?

The story was weak and pretty straight forward. If you like games with a deep story, I would avoid this game.

How many hours did you play it?

I played the game for about 21 hours. There are some side missions that I could still do but they started to feel repetitive so I just decided to stop playing after I completed the story.

I was amazed, and said "No way, you can't have a Far Cry game without guns and vehicles!" and they showed me that you could ride on certain animals when you unlocked a skill/perk. I was able to test it and bring home an early copy of the game. I beat it 2 times, the first time just doing the story and ignoring side activities that I didn't need to do and I thought, "Well, that was ok, but it didn't provide the kind of Open World that I was looking for." so I played it through a second time doing all the activities. Far Cry is back again
this time its come with great gameplay, great graphics, great new petting system, great open world, great missions, great story and many more
and the only reason i had a problem with this was that this is a copy cat from other far-cry games

This is a true AAA game. Graphics, sounds, controls all get an A+

I respect the Far Cry's team decision to really step out of their comfort zone and take away the guns to create something entirely different. But Far Cry's 3 storyline is by far the most memorable, giving a feeling evoked by films such as The Beach. Looking forward for Far Cry 5.

The prehistorical setting of this Far Cry game is pretty unique and taming beasts is really fun! It can get a bit repetitive after a while, but if you do like me and play the game for about an hour a day, it will stay fresh and fun.

Historical bits aside, this is an excellent game. I can understand why fans of the regular Far Cry series might be a bit disappointed-- there are no guns and you have to find the story yourself-- but the game stands alone as a valued edition to the Far Cry family. The game is still in first person, there is still a gathering and crafting system, still open-world exploration, but the game really is just you, fire, your axe, and your bow. The game plays more like an RPG than it does an adventure game: there are levels and skills, points and ability trees, there's a home base and a party system or sorts, and there's beastmastery, which allows you to tame animals and use their abilities in combat.

Overall, a highly enjoyable title. I don't know if you'll enjoy it if you like Far Cry 3/4, but if you enjoy action RPGs like Horizon, I recommend Primal to you.

Far Cry Primal is a first person action adventure survival game set in the Stone Age.
You play as Takkar, just a regular hunter, who’s then tasked by a woman he runs into to go rescue some of her people and instantly become the leader of a new tribe…
There’s very little emphasis on narrative here, just a quick introduction and then you’re free to do whatever you want… but there is incentive to follow through with helping your tribe mates…
This for the most part is a recourse gathering game…
By gathering resources you can craft better weapons, build huts to upgrade your village and unlock skills.. And of course craft food items to help you survive…
That’s basically it... explore the world... hunt animals for their skins…
You can even eventually tame them to help you in combat…
There are of course human enemies to deal with.. not just aggressive animals…
Outside of the 14 hour campaign you can liberate areas to unlock fast travel points, and you can do side quests for characters you meet in the woods…
Your tamed animals help you with a simple call.. they’ll even stealth with you if you go into stealth mode …
Your weapon option is about as varied as you’d expect for the stone age, you get a club, sling, spear, bow and arrows, traps, and bombs.. all of which you have to craft as you use them…
None of your tools are indestructible, thankfully wood is vast and as you upgrade your crafting skills, you get more recourses, and get more out of those recourses.. so slowly less annoying…
What doesn’t get less annoying though is enemies…
A great immersion breaker is that enemies are harder or easier to kill depending on the section of the map you’re in for no apparent reason…
This isn’t a JRPG.. This is an open world game... I don’t want enemies to scale with me... I want to feel powerful after sinking all of my skill points and crafted materials into stronger weapons…
What does make me feel powerful though is hopping on the back of a majestic mammoth and slinging enemies into the air…
You can ride any large creature you tame once you progress far enough into the story…
There’s such a great balance here of gameplay incentive…
There’s reason to play through the story to unlock new abilities, and there’s reason to ignore the story for a little while to get better weapons, and new skills…
You can’t do it all sticking to one side of the game, and I love that…
And hunting for rare animals and reaching for rare materials is just as fun as attacking a settlement on the back of a caber toothed tiger and taking it for my own…
There are also these cool witcher contract type missions deep in the game where you get to go on a hunt for a legendary animal that’s been terrorizing the land… Looking for clues, setting up traps, and then weakening them down to finally be able to claim them for yourself to call to fight by your side at any time…
A lot of the main missions for the most part have to do with searching for clues and following paths with your hunter vision, which works like eagle vision from assassins creed, or a witcher sense in the witcher the 3…
It highlights animals, plants.. and points of interest…
Its highly annoying that this vision has a timer though…
I don’t know why ubisoft ruined this awesome tool from Assassins Creed… they ruined it in Unity too…
It’s not fun having to constantly click r3 and wait for a cool down every few seconds when I’m trying to follow a path…
    Stop doing this ubisoft..
Thankfully you can call your cool little owl friend to fly around the sky to get a larger view of the path since this function is so unnecessarily annoying…
This is a very ubisoft game… If you don’t like the idea of map cleaning in your games... this isn’t the one for you…
Map cleaning is pretty hit and miss for me, but thankfully I enjoyed it here…
This world is ridiculous... it feels alive… you can ride mammoths…
    what more do you want?
    I give Far Cry Primal
    an 8.0/10

This one had everything to be the best of them, but I was disappointed about how easy it is to do somethings. I could take entire settlements just using animals, sometimes the bombs the owl dropped were almost enough.

While in the fourth game of the series we had some difficult side missions, having to be completely stealth to save captive allies, or doing an assassination, in this game we can just swing our weapon crazily that it will make little difference. The scenery is perfect, the game is gorgeous, the story is simple, but very truthful and objetive, I really thought I was playing a masterpiece at the beginning.

As the game progressed I became simply too powerful, there were no tension about stealthily taking down all the opponents like in previous games when I would feel like I'm a great player when I took a settlement without being seem. The owl should not throw bombs, we should not have such powerful animals as allies or the enemies should be able to counter those powers in some way.
This game had everything to be the best of them, the best ambience, a nice story, that nice feeling about building your tribe, but the gameplay becomes boring at the end, as your power grows. I was expecting something on the line of the hindu archer warrior against demons we can see on the fourth game, those were great. Still it's a great game, I had a great time playing it, it just saddens me that it could be the best of the series, a 10/10 game, if just they added some challenge to the missions.

I do. I mean, I love the Far Cry games. I love running around huge open worlds, finding lots of little secrets hidden everywhere and collecting loads of stuff and resources. If you like that, well then you'll like this game.
This may sound stupid, but in the beginning I actually missed not having guns. I know stupid seeing how the game is set 10.000 B.C. That soon subsided after getting a few weapon upgrades. It is really quite awesome running through the jungle "sniping" animals and enemies with your bow. Great fun.
I also really loved the whole open world. As always in Far Cry games it is huge, varied and just fun to explore.
The missions are your usual Far Cry kind of ones, what isn't a bad thing. You start out doing errands for people and later become the big chief. Ha ha.

I really enjoyed the game and it took me about 24 hours to get the platinum trophy. I wasn't really aiming for the trophy most of the time, just doing missions (there are lots), capturing bonfires/outposts, hunting animals (the hunter sense is a cool new feature), etc.

    Try it and have fun.

It's especially fun just throwing your stone club in the enemies face and watching blood spurt out of their head. Then there's the animals, traps and poison bombs. My point is that the developers gave me lot of satisfying ways to kill an enemy so the game never became boring, which is a huge surprise. The stealth too seemed samey at first but I like how they added new animations (clubbing people in the head is hilarious), more satisfying sounds (love the sound of the shard hitting the target's head/neck) and death animation to keep the same stealth take downs fun. Primal however is in my honest opinion far better than any of the previous far cry games and considering this game has no vehicles other than the ability to ride animals, no guns and no modern day equipment that is a very bold statement indeed!

This game feels so different to the previous games in the series but still manages to feel like a Far Cry game. You still have stealth based missions, you still have to complete side quests, you still have to conquer outposts. But even though all these staples of the series remain, the fact that you use bows and arrows, spears, clubs and a variety of other weapons instead of modern day guns completely changes how you play the game. To me it feels more brutal and the aiming is much more difficult in a good way. More focus is placed on hand to hand combat. What I am trying to get at is although this is still a Far Cry game it is different enough to make it so much more enjoyable than the fourth game managed to be!

I also love that there is a great focus on scavenging, you feel inclined to keep picking up all the resources you come across, just in case you will need them in the future to upgrade equipment and even build and upgrade villages which is totally new to a Far Cry game. Also new you can tame most of the wild animals to do your bidding when you want them to, with each animal having their own special ability, which in all honesty I personally never use there abilities, I mainly always use them to kill or ride on.

Ignore the haters they try to ruin anything that's popular. This is a great game and surprisingly my favourite in the series so far.

I liked very much the thematic, the graphics are very good overall (some minor blurry textures) but everything seems familiar. Ubisoft should be a recycling company. They launch 2 Far Cry games in 14 months, 3 Assassins Creed in 2/3 years (not counting spinoffs), Watch Dogs, The Crew, The Division, ... All by sharing too much things (even the HUD lacks imagination!!). Primal is a good game, but it could be a great game, a really masterpiece if developers had time to innovate. Despite its brilliant presentation and beginning, it goes lacking the addiction and starts to being repetitive. The problem here is Ubisoft losted the imagination. And we must stop to asking them to innovate and let the series rest 3/4 years. Perhaps they are right, once they are selling well...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Midnight. Crawling up on an enemy camp. Sending in my trusty owl with hunter vision to get an overview of what I'm facing. Should I call for a lion and storm them with a spear? Or maybe a jaguar and stealthily take them out one by one with bow and beast attacks?

+ FAST loading times. This is a must for me. If I'm discovered when I want to stealth, I let them kill me so that I can try again. A few seconds later.
+ The music and sound effects make it so enjoyable to advance in all aspects of the game.
+ Huge world, with enough fast travel locations.
+ Enjoyable, even after all scripted missions are done.
+ Weird language adds to the atmosphere.
+ Collecting flowers and other stuff are not a chore, but fun and instantly rewarding.

    - A few bugs, most annoying that I cannot feed my beast from time to time.
    - Grappling hook locations... They are all over the place when I want to go down, in which case I just slide down to save time. And they are NOWHERE to be found when I want to go up!
    - Graphics are so-so in places. But I prefer this over slow loading times.

I will admit that the only Far Cry I've ever played was CryTek's original. I'll also admit I only picked up Primal because of its unusual setting. A first person shooter with cavemen? A first person shooter with cavemen? That I gotta see. Turns out that Primal isn't really an FPS... more like an FPP - a first person poker. Most of the time you run around poking enemies with your spear. You do get to shoot a bow, but I used the spear 90% of the time.

Being a Ubisoft game, I expected Primal to be the usual deal: bugs galore, DLC up the roof, about 20 different special editions (each with different exclusive content ensuring that no matter what you pick, you'll never have the complete experience)... I was surprised not to find any of it.

The story is simple and not very imaginative. Three prehistoric clans, Wenja, Izila and Udam, are fighting for control over the land of Oros. You play as Takkar, a Wenja warrior and the legendary beast master. Your goal is to gather your fellow tribesmen who are scattered all over Oros, and build up a powerful clan to crush your enemies.

To obtain weapons (spears, clubs, bows), you need to craft them first. You gather materials in the wilderness, and you also use them to upgrade your village. As your clan grows, the clan members also gather materials for you. Finding and recruiting Wenja specialists unlocks new weapons, abilities and missions. One of my complaints is how the game explains these mechanics. When I first started playing, I couldn't even figure out how to make more arrows for my bow - and the game never tells you. I actually had to go and read the manual which was rather inconvenient. You quickly get the hang of everything, though, and then it's a blast.

Tamable beasts were Primal's selling point, and while not really bad, they're also nothing special and your control over them is rather limited. The first beast you acquire is an owl which you use in place of Far Cry's classic binoculars. Enemies spotted by the owl will be tagged and marked on your radar, making it easier for you to avoid them. The owl can also kill enemies, but the ability has a cooldown. Other than the owl, you get to tame wolves, dholes (weird prehistoric hyenas), badgers, large cats and bears. Each beast has a slightly different ability, but I was only really using the cave bear (his taunt ability is great), and the bloodfang sabretooth tiger once he became available. Playing with the beasts at your side makes the game quite a lot easier since they keep predators at bay and serve as a distraction when fighting human enemies. You can also ride some of them for faster travel. If you're trying to be stealthy, I recommend dismissing your beast as they almost always give away your position.

The controls are what you'd expect from a classic FPS and they're perfect. I hate to play shooters on consoles because controllers are simply terrible for precise targeting, but here it really works. The cursor isn't too sensitive, nor is it unresponsive. Normally I'd have to play with the settings to get the sensitivity just right, but here it felt good from the start.

I have to commend Ubisoft for daring to do what only Bethesda does these days: making Primal singleplayer only. Except in a few rare instances, I never play multiplayer and I'm sick of lazy developers justifying short singleplayer campaigns by saying that we have multiplayer instead. I don't care about that. If I was happy with a handful of maps on which I get to shoot people over and over again, I'd play Call of Duty. What I want is a massive open world filled with side-quests, locations to explore, and collectibles to find. Primal has all that and I'm very happy about it.

Technical side of Primal is rock solid. The world of Oros looks and sounds beautiful. Music mostly works as background noise and you don't pay any attention to it, but it helps to makes Oros more alive. All dialogues sound like gibberish, but Ubisoft actually hired linguists to create primitive languages for the three tribes, each with actual grammar rules and vocabulary. The game even came with a phrase book so you can learn to speak Wenja.

The framerate is surprisingly stable, and I didn't encounter any major glitches, either. Twice I got stuck inside large rocks, but with quick travel being available at any time it's no real problem. Just travel to the nearest camp and run back.

Overall, Far Cry Primal was a very pleasant surprise. After months of playing Fallout 4 it was a welcome break from all the shooting. I expected the melee combat to get boring real quick, but it's no more repetitive than shooting a gun every two minutes. I've been playing for six days now and I'm only about 80% done, so I definitely got my money's worth. If Ubisoft made more games like this, they might yet repair their tarnished reputation.

I find the story realistic for its time; I don't think the prehistoric age would really have had complex villains when our species wasn't yet intellectually complex. Large, violent people would rise to the top in small societies, which is what has happened in the case of the Udam tribe in the game. For me, 'Primal' is a big breath of fresh air overall, and for the FC franchise. If you're tired of wandering around the sandbox with overpowered guns while shooting & blowing-up everything in sight; if you liked sneaking around in previous Far Cry games versus guns-blazing; if you like animals and nature, and liked that aspect of previous Far Cry games; then 'Primal' is definitely your game.
While 'Primal' follows the familiar framework of previous Far Cry games, it fits 'Primal' perfectly. Some critics have said it's repetitive, that it has a weak story & weak characters, etc., etc..those are such cliche criticisms, and they're simply not true. Rating a game is tough--it's a matter of taste--as everyone likes different things in a game. No, this isn't a game that's super heavy on story, but it definitely has a great story. Looking back at FC4's terrible story, 'Primal' definitely excels in the storytelling department. Also, I've never played a game that has you playing as a caveman in a totally natural world, devoid of all modern technology, and I LOVE IT! In the place of high-tech gadgets, there are a ton of cool weapons and old-world gadgets, including a grappling hook, a rock sling a la David & Goliath, and creative 'bombs' among a few other cool things like throwing "knives". Most all of these are upgrade-able too. For me, 'Primal' is nearly the perfect Far Cry game.
    The few CON'S:
Things I was hoping for and/or more of were small things, but all the same; the personalized customization of weapons (like in CoD), gear, and building your own custom home camps & caves (like in Fallout 4) would've been cool. Also, more specialized play-styles would've been fun and made the replay value higher (although the four different difficulty settings help that). The only thing I absolutely do not like is the resource gathering system; especially early in the game, it is needlessly confusing and there is NO good or easy way to manage your resources. A loot stash would've helped immensely. Also, a glossary containing a bestiary, NPC bio's, and a deeper explanation of the world would've been nice. For a game so focused on techniques, these are important things, and that's why I'm giving it a score of 8/10.
    The PRO'S:
I've said most of them already, but: Excellent feeling of immersion in an awesome world, a very cool theme that caters to nature lovers, the A.I. is the best of any Far Cry as both "human" enemies and animals behave very realistically (esp. for a video game(!)), some cool NPC's, great graphics--not amazing, but very nice, esp. considering the size of the world and compared to FC4, lots of fun & intuitive Tomb Raider-style missions, and I give Ubisoft extra kudos for taking a chance on making a "caveman game"...all worthy of praise.
    FINAL WORDS:
Rarely do I play a game for more than three or four hours at a time. Yesterday I played 'Primal' for over five hours and I was NEVER bored and hardly ever frustrated. The balance of humor & seriousness in the story is excellent, and helping my fellow Wenja tribesmen (and women) balanced with getting back at some--at times hilarious--enemies made for a truly enjoyable experience. Nature lovers rejoice; FINALLY, I've found a Far Cry game that I can really sink my teeth into!

A rich assortment of whacky characters fills a narrative that doesn't possibly need to be anything more than it is for this 10 000 BCE survival scenario. One of its greatest strenghts is how compelling it feels to the stone age setting and how its world and your interaction with it stays so loyal to the stone age hunter niche.

I was worried how the beastmaster skills would turn out, but I can now confirm that it's one of the best features about this game. Apart from being crucial in turning the tide of battle, your beast, once tamed, becomes your well behaved companion, your body guard, and basically your "don't mess with me" calling card.

It's exceptionally rewarding to see the tangible affects you have on your village and your tribe the more you begin to conquer this world.

Primal is an excellent game all round, gameplay, combat, visuals and audio score - wise, however the graphics detail could have been a little bit better on the console version with noticeable draw distance, water and hair detail being particularly lacking for next gen,  but graphics will always be second to gameplay.

If you have mixed feelings about getting it I can assure you this is one hell of a fun experience that you should give a try, well worth the money.

I haven't done a mission in 5 hours as I have been hunting bear and leopards with my white wolf without end. Seeing the bright yellow smoke trail of a Rare specie is thrilling. You see that smoke trail and the hunt begins. However, you always have to be on your toes because of the emergent game play. There is always something happening. The weapon wheel works very good. Being able to craft at at a moments notice or set your arrows, spears or clubs on fire is incredible. Fire, oh the beautiful fire is an ally and nemesis all at once. You can use it to kill your enemies but be careful that it doesn't backfire and kill you as well. The Owl is another amazing feature. Being able to take control of your Owl to attack enemies or survey an area is great. The weapons and hit points are very well done. I highly recommend this game. It's the most fun I have had since Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor. It's one of those games where you can play for 30 hours without doing a mission. However, I highly recommend you fight your way to Tensay the Shaman right away to unlock Beast Master! The game was so fun but exploded once I became a Beast Master. I gave FarCry Primal a 10 as it's the best release in the franchise.

Although there are no guns, the intense feeling of the real danger of playing a character during this epoch is very satisfying. I was so surprised by how much fun this game is to play. When you play this game don't think of it as another far cry title.
It is a standalone game with a setting in 10000 BC.

This is the perfect game at 10000 BC.
Playing this game is really fun.

    Negative Remarks:
    Probably the story and villains.

Gamers who only like guns dont need to bash this game.
I personally think that giving this game a score of 0-5 is a little unfair just because the reviewer
    has bias.
Also Critics reviews sometimes are a little unfair and inconsistent. Reviewing games need to have a standard. Fun in playing games depend on the preference of a person.

When I first saw this get announced, I was a bit uneasy about the ordeal. A Far Cry game without guns? It couldn't be good. Well, I can tell you...this game a good game, honestly. It has it's flaws, but at it's core it's a good game. Honestly, I'm not sure why Ubisoft had to make it a Far Cry game. If they had just announced it as a new IP, they could've done so much more with it. TheyWhen I first saw this get announced, I was a bit uneasy about the ordeal. They could've changed the formula, made it a bit different rather than somewhat of a re-skin of Far Cry 4. But, with that aside, this game is very good. The story does lack a bit and the characters really lack complexity, but the rest of the game is very good. The game is utterly beautiful. The graphics are perfect for this game. The scenery is captivating, but also very brutal. And the hunting aspects would have to be the best in the series so far. While you're running around the world, you feel much more vulnerable than you would in a game like Far Cry 4. In Far Cry 4, if you run into an animal that isn't friendly and starts to attack you, you can blow it up or shoot it down where it stands. But in Primal, you have to be much more careful. Due to your lack of machine guns and RPGs, you only have spears, a bow, clubs, throwing knives, ect. This causes you to have to be more careful, because if you run into something like a bear, you're basically screwed. The game also added a new "Hunter Vision" as I like to call it, where you press in the left stick and everything turns grey except for key things. Plants, materials, and animals all get highlighted in yellow, and that makes hunting very fun and interesting. The crafting is also a very interesting thing now. Rather than just being able to buy things from vendors in previous Far Cry games, you now have to craft most of your arsenal of weaponry. Spears, arrows, throwing knives, and clubs all have to be crafted by different materials, which makes the game a lot harder than past Far Cry games as you have to be watching out for materials if you're starting to get low. Also, the side-quests aren't really anything too interesting. Usually it's just escorting 3-4 Wenja Tribesmen and women to another location and on the way you get ambushed at various spots by the Udam tribe. Or, the hostage missions, somewhat of a staple to the Far Cry series. I haven't really gotten too much into the beast taming, but from what I've seen it seems like a very awesome and interesting addition to this game. And the rest is basically anything else you would see in a Far Cry game. Instead of bell towers, there's bonfires. I was deciding whether or not to give this game a 8 or a 9, so I figured I would just say an 8.5 but round it up to a 9. This game is definitely worth your money if you're a fan of the past games. If you're just getting into the series, I would definitely recommend Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 4, because usually right now they're a lower price, and you may have troubles in this game if you aren't a veteran of the series yet. The setting used to disguise the Far Cry we’ve already seen is fresh and wonderful, it’s easy to sink into this wild, beautiful, majestic world. Primal was put together skillfully, it’s not an outstanding game, but it’s so enjoyable that I devoured it hour after hour with an appetite of a cave bear. [04/2016, p.28]

The most innovative Far Cry since the second game, Primal is a tremendously enthralling streamlining of the series, and a powerful trip back in time. [Issue#268, p.70]
