Love the crafting and resource gathering elements, you need to find everything and make everything by yourself.
The boss fight is better in the game, finally not another QTE battle or just a decision .
The new beast master system is good but feels too op sometimes, cause the beast can kill many enemies by themselves. Also, this Farcry feels like it's been rush out the door too quickly, cause it has zero multiplayer.
It will be amazing if this game have Co-op or a PVP mode.
The game is more like a survival game with a story than a FPS game.
And in animations, terrain, animals model, water effect.this game do feels like a reskin of FC4.I really hope Ubisoft don't do this again with the next Farcry game.
Overall, the game is good, not a supereb game to surpass FC3 and FC4,but not a complete failure like AC unity or watchdogs.

I'm really happy Ubisoft decided to try something different with this one.

This is the best Stone Age game ever done, makes you feel like you are back in time surrounded by this incredible nature and animals.

The game looks great, and it sounds amazing, the open world is vast with tones of things to do.
Another great and fresh addition to the Far Cry games!!

Very interesting title. As an archaeological researcher with a passion for the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods, I really appreciated this game on several levels. Historical bits aside, this is an excellent game. I can understand why fans of the regular Far Cry series might be a bit disappointed-- there are no guns and you have to find the story yourself-- but the game stands alone as a valued edition to the Far Cry family. The game is still in first person, there is still a gathering and crafting system, still open-world exploration, but the game really is just you, fire, your axe, and your bow. The game plays more like an RPG than it does an adventure game: there are levels and skills, points and ability trees, there's a home base and a party system or sorts, and there's beastmastery, which allows you to tame animals and use their abilities in combat.

Overall, a highly enjoyable title. I don't know if you'll enjoy it if you like Far Cry 3/4, but if you enjoy action RPGs like Horizon, I recommend Primal to you.

Primal however is in my honest opinion far better than any of the previous far cry games and considering this game has no vehicles other than the ability to ride animals, no guns and no modern day equipment that is a very bold statement indeed!

This game feels so different to the previous games in the series but still manages to feel like a Far Cry game. You still have stealth based missions, you still have to complete side quests, you still have to conquer outposts. But even though all these staples of the series remain, the fact that you use bows and arrows, spears, clubs and a variety of other weapons instead of modern day guns completely changes how you play the game. To me it feels more brutal and the aiming is much more difficult in a good way. More focus is placed on hand to hand combat. What I am trying to get at is although this is still a Far Cry game it is different enough to make it so much more enjoyable than the fourth game managed to be!

I also love that there is a great focus on scavenging, you feel inclined to keep picking up all the resources you come across, just in case you will need them in the future to upgrade equipment and even build and upgrade villages which is totally new to a Far Cry game. Also new you can tame most of the wild animals to do your bidding when you want them to, with each animal having their own special ability, which in all honesty I personally never use there abilities, I mainly always use them to kill or ride on.

Ignore the haters they try to ruin anything that's popular. This is a great game and surprisingly my favourite in the series so far.

This one had everything to be the best of them, but I was disappointed about how easy it is to do somethings. I could take entire settlements just using animals, sometimes the bombs the owl dropped were almost enough.

While in the fourth game of the series we had some difficult side missions, having to be completely stealth to save captive allies, or doing an assassination, in this game we can just swing our weapon crazily that it will make little difference. The scenery is perfect, the game is gorgeous, the story is simple, but very truthful and objetive, I really thought I was playing a masterpiece at the beginning.

As the game progressed I became simply too powerful, there were no tension about stealthily taking down all the opponents like in previous games when I would feel like I'm a great player when I took a settlement without being seem. The owl should not throw bombs, we should not have such powerful animals as allies or the enemies should be able to counter those powers in some way.
This game had everything to be the best of them, the best ambience, a nice story, that nice feeling about building your tribe, but the gameplay becomes boring at the end, as your power grows. I was expecting something on the line of the hindu archer warrior against demons we can see on the fourth game, those were great. Still it's a great game, I had a great time playing it, it just saddens me that it could be the best of the series, a 10/10 game, if just they added some challenge to the missions.

    - resource system was fun and kept you on your toes regarding what weapons to use

    Cons:
    - missions are incredibly dull, mainly fetch or kill missions with a few protect the AI thrown in for good measure, no one has ever liked protect missions and it is about time Ubisoft learnt this
    - terrible AI
    - Very dull combat due to only having three weapons throughout the game: club, bow & spear. They could have included so much more
    - The map is full of resources to loot and animals kill however, that is not a good enough reason to want to explore. There is a stupid amount of animals in certain areas. There is no way 4 sabre tooth lions and 7 leopards would live within a 50 metre radius of each other. This felt like a cheap way to extend the game time by making you have to fight endless amounts of animals
    - Travelling around the map is slow due to having no transport other than a sabre tooth lion 10-15 hours into the game
    - game is subtitled (it could not have been in English because of the time setting but I still class it as a con of the game)
    - only a few enemy classes
    - generally not as much fun as FC3 (I have not played 4 or 5)

The gameplay is great, fighting feels fluid and nice. The bashing of club against club is truly satisfying.
The taming system in the game, although kind of underwhelming with its press one button taming mechanic, is fun to use your animal companion to infiltrate outposts and such and sneaking up on enemies with a sabertooth tiger, or just barging in riding atop a wild bear and reeking havoc. Although the unstealthyness of most of the animal companions leads stealth missions to be almost impossible as your animal friend will be spotted almost always and you cant help it unless you dismiss them all together, which is a shame.

The story is arguably the biggest downfall of Far Cry Primal. Its very uninteresting and just feels like a cookie cut "Kill the oppressive bad guy, save our people" the main antagonist in primal is far under par of all the previous in the Far Cry series. He has no depth, No real personality, and just seams like they made a buff guy with blood and scars on him, gave him a cool name, and called it good. the second and final boss of the game is no different. the final boss fight is your typical overly hard wave defense, hurt boss, wave defense, hurt boss format and becomes very annoying with no checkpoints and mass amounts of heavy enemies that take forever to kill, and the boss in question using a bow that nearly one shots you. and after finishing both of the "bad guys" you are givin a very underwhelming "yay you did it, you save the wenja!" the wenja being the uninteresting NPCs that you really dont care about but the game revolves around saving them.

so in conclusion, the gameplay is really fun, taming and animal battling is kind of meh, story is uninteresting and doesnt feel like it means anything, but a fun game if you your looking to just screw around in prehistoric times and ride animals and kill stuff.

The gameplay is the same Far Cry classic recipe but with the primal twist, that being said I can't help but feel like all they have done is send that previous protagonist back in time and taken his guns and cars away.
Visually the game is stunning and the scenery is amazing - with very nicely modeled wildlife that dynamically interacts within itself and forms a sense of ecosystem.
If I was to be perfectly honest I would say I am disappointing with the game, I love me some brutal barbaric combat and making my alpha wolf attack enemies as much as the next guy but with ll the changes it brings it doesn't bring anything new to the soul of the game and whilst I love Far Cry, I'm afraid I had much higher hopes for this one.

The first and most obvious is the story which is just really short and boring. I won't say much more but if you've seen the trailer you've seen practically the entire story to be honest. Second the AI was extremely disappointing for me. Not for the people, I expect cave men to be dumb but the animals. Since this game is as hunting focused as it is action focused I expected animals to have realistic AI like stalking as packs and moving as herds. Animals are just the same as they always have been though if they see you they charge at you. And at night... ugh. The trailer said the predators would be dangerous which led me to believe they might just follow you in the shadows and wait for a moment until you're vulnerable. Not so, instead it means a pack of wolves spawns every 20 ft so you are literally fighting 6 packs of wolves per night every night. It kind of makes doing anything else at night a lot less enjoyable. The third and the biggest problem with the game I find is the crafting system. It seems like very little thought was put into this area because you can grind through everything in 10 hours if you want too. The fact there is no customization of weapons at all is painful to me. I imagined getting to paint my bow and maybe have a few carvings to pick from to put on it, some feathers, gemstones maybe, bones but you literally get 3 bows in the game. NO SIGNATURE WEAPONS like wtf?I only really ever use one bow and it looks hideous? That doesn't sound like Farcry... It was a great effort though, it just needed to innovate a bit more and maybe take a bit more from the survival games it wanted to be at times. Expand

If your game features melee combat then make melee combat interesting. Really the only saving grace is stalking dudes and taking outposts (oh, and there are no radio towers THANK GOD!)

I did nothing but rag on the game and that's probably because of expectations. It really is a fun game. The crazy characters fit in more in this time period than they ever did, collecting and crafting is a time sinker during which a lot of cool things could happen in the world, and riding your sabertooth tiger as he maws people to death as you beat people with clubs is very satisfying.

So, good game but I wanted more. I don't think they needed to innovate with Far Cry but with such a drastic change in setting some innovation could have went a long way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really excited to get this game being a fan of FC 2 - 4. The environment is beautiful and made more stunning by the night and day cycles. The developers took a big risk with the setting and the fact that guns weren't invented therefore (guess what...no guns!!).

Combat is interesting and has good physics with bodies responding to arrows to head or that double handed club smash to the jaw.

The scouting method involving your owl is clever allowing certain perks to be unlocked like dropping a bomb of bees or fire bombs etc.

The animal companion is where it goes downhill. The beginning I loved due to the fact that it puts alot of emphasis on survival and preparation of weapons especially at night. But once you've tamed the strongest animals like the Sabre Tooth and Cave Bears it gets a bit boring because they are so OP. I like taking the jaguar as its quick and stealthy but you still need to give it alot of support. The Great Hunts as very exciting and needs you to prepare.

The story to me is the big let down. The protagonist is boring and forgettable. The several NPC's that help you are actually more interesting than Tekken or Takker or whatever the fk his name is (See I've forgotten already). The story is pretty linear, save your tribe from extinction by wiping out the other tribes.

The bosses, even though there's 2 of them are also not worth mentioning. Boss fights, there are no tactics as they are complete bullet...sorry...arrow sponges and you just end up siccing your pets on them as soon as you run out of ammo.

There is no Co Op which is a bummer, it would of been fun with a friend even for a Split Screen game. I think they didn't fully recover with the failed attempt of Co Op in FC 4.

Overall, I came to the conclusion of giving this game a 7.

    -1 No Multiplayer
    - 1.5 Boring, nearly non existent story and characters
    - 0.5 Difficulty (some of the tamed pets are so OP, that you could pull out a banana chair and let them do all the dirty work)

But about 10 minutes in I found something extremely satisfying about throwing a spear right through an enemy's face from about 20 paces. The added "Beast Master" ability to tame wild animals and use them for hunting and combat is also a great addition. I loved shooting the lock off a tiger cage with a sniper rifle in Far Cry 3 and letting it go to town on an enemy stronghold. This is even better since you can call it in for help whenever you need it. About 3 hours in I had a wolf, jaguar, and cave lion in my stable. A first person shooter with cavemen? That I gotta see. Turns out that Primal isn't really an FPS... more like an FPP - a first person poker. Most of the time you run around poking enemies with your spear. You do get to shoot a bow, but I used the spear 90% of the time.

Being a Ubisoft game, I expected Primal to be the usual deal: bugs galore, DLC up the roof, about 20 different special editions (each with different exclusive content ensuring that no matter what you pick, you'll never have the complete experience)... I was surprised not to find any of it.

The story is simple and not very imaginative. Three prehistoric clans, Wenja, Izila and Udam, are fighting for control over the land of Oros. You play as Takkar, a Wenja warrior and the legendary beast master. Your goal is to gather your fellow tribesmen who are scattered all over Oros, and build up a powerful clan to crush your enemies.

To obtain weapons (spears, clubs, bows), you need to craft them first. You gather materials in the wilderness, and you also use them to upgrade your village. As your clan grows, the clan members also gather materials for you. Finding and recruiting Wenja specialists unlocks new weapons, abilities and missions. One of my complaints is how the game explains these mechanics. When I first started playing, I couldn't even figure out how to make more arrows for my bow - and the game never tells you. I actually had to go and read the manual which was rather inconvenient. You quickly get the hang of everything, though, and then it's a blast.

Tamable beasts were Primal's selling point, and while not really bad, they're also nothing special and your control over them is rather limited. The first beast you acquire is an owl which you use in place of Far Cry's classic binoculars. Enemies spotted by the owl will be tagged and marked on your radar, making it easier for you to avoid them. The owl can also kill enemies, but the ability has a cooldown. Other than the owl, you get to tame wolves, dholes (weird prehistoric hyenas), badgers, large cats and bears. Each beast has a slightly different ability, but I was only really using the cave bear (his taunt ability is great), and the bloodfang sabretooth tiger once he became available. Playing with the beasts at your side makes the game quite a lot easier since they keep predators at bay and serve as a distraction when fighting human enemies. You can also ride some of them for faster travel. If you're trying to be stealthy, I recommend dismissing your beast as they almost always give away your position.

The controls are what you'd expect from a classic FPS and they're perfect. I hate to play shooters on consoles because controllers are simply terrible for precise targeting, but here it really works. The cursor isn't too sensitive, nor is it unresponsive. Normally I'd have to play with the settings to get the sensitivity just right, but here it felt good from the start.

I have to commend Ubisoft for daring to do what only Bethesda does these days: making Primal singleplayer only. Except in a few rare instances, I never play multiplayer and I'm sick of lazy developers justifying short singleplayer campaigns by saying that we have multiplayer instead. I don't care about that. If I was happy with a handful of maps on which I get to shoot people over and over again, I'd play Call of Duty. What I want is a massive open world filled with side-quests, locations to explore, and collectibles to find. Primal has all that and I'm very happy about it.

Technical side of Primal is rock solid. The world of Oros looks and sounds beautiful. Music mostly works as background noise and you don't pay any attention to it, but it helps to makes Oros more alive. All dialogues sound like gibberish, but Ubisoft actually hired linguists to create primitive languages for the three tribes, each with actual grammar rules and vocabulary. The game even came with a phrase book so you can learn to speak Wenja.

The framerate is surprisingly stable, and I didn't encounter any major glitches, either. Twice I got stuck inside large rocks, but with quick travel being available at any time it's no real problem. Just travel to the nearest camp and run back.

Overall, Far Cry Primal was a very pleasant surprise. After months of playing Fallout 4 it was a welcome break from all the shooting. I expected the melee combat to get boring real quick, but it's no more repetitive than shooting a gun every two minutes. I've been playing for six days now and I'm only about 80% done, so I definitely got my money's worth. If Ubisoft made more games like this, they might yet repair their tarnished reputation.

It's fairly surprising to see Ubisoft take its number one shooter franchise and turn it completely on its head, ditching the guns and vehicles and replacing them with clubs, spears, and prehistoric animals. It’s a new spin for the franchise, and while it doesn’t quite achieve the level of greatness it needed to justify the series’ change up, Primal still ends up being a solid game on its own merits.

Primal takes place during the times of the caveman, where violence, hunting and general hostility are just par for the course in your daily life. You play as Takkar, a young caveman whose tribe is being threatened by a pair or rival tribes and their leaders. As the up and coming warrior and leader, it’s your responsibility to make sure neither of these tribes succeed in their takeover by taking out their leaders.

Due to its new caveman setting, Primal embraces every aspect of the time. Hunting and gathering resources are all key to crafting new items and weapons, as well as building and improving your home tribe and adding new features. Basically, the standard crafting and hunting from the Far Cry franchise has been expanded and improved upon in order to better fit the new setting.

With the new setting and the lack of features the modern Far Cry games provided, Primal instead adds new features to try and make up for their absence. The most prominent addition is the ability to tame animals, allowing you to use them as allies in battle or ride them across the land (if they’re big enough to ride).

As for combat against enemies, stealth is still just as fun as it has always been. Sneaking up on enemies from behind to deliver the killing blow and nailing headshots with your bow is just as satisfying as it has always been. Plus, the addition of the owl (the replacement for your binoculars) allows you to get a great view of the layout and the placement of enemies beforehand. You can also bring your tamed allies into stealth sections with you, but this only served to get me caught more often than naught.

However, it is a disappointment that Primal hasn’t built upon the melee combat in any significant way. Your only options in combat are to take your melee weapon, swing it, swing it harder, or throw it. While it feels and looks satisfying, the lack of variety in your attacks, as well as the lack of dashing or dodging makes melee combat feel too simple. Plus, once you unlock the strongest club, melee combat is little more than a waste of time since losing is impossible.

However, this is something you’ll find across the board with Primal. Despite taking away features in order to create a game set in caveman times, Primal hasn’t done much to replace what’s been taken away. This is true in melee combat, stealth, and even the upgrade system. When it comes to upgrades, there aren’t many new additions. In fact, a lot of abilities you had by default in previous games have been locked behind an upgrade in an effort to cover up for the lack of new abilities, which is disappointing.

In fact, it seems to affect Primal’s campaign and side content as well. Like every Ubisoft game, the world is filled to the brim with small side missions to do, and just like every Ubisoft game, very few of these missions are actually worth doing. Most side missions end up being little more than busywork, while certain missions like liberating outposts and hunting legendary creatures end up being the highlights. As for the game’s campaign, while the world of Primal has its fair share of interesting characters and story lines, the campaign missions themselves don’t feel very special. Most mission objectives feel very par for the course, while other missions feel completely unnecessary since they don’t actually drive the plot forward. It doesn’t help that Primal’s ending doesn’t exactly feel satisfying, and the two boss fights given to you at the end aren’t very fun.

That’s the main problem with Far Cry Primal. In its prehistoric setting, Primal has stripped so many features and mechanics the modern Far Cry games have available but fails to make up for their absence. While the owl and animal taming are steps in the right direction, the lackluster side content, underwhelming campaign missions, simplified melee combat, and even a lack of new upgrades, Primal feels like it didn’t do enough to actually justify the travel back in time.

The core of Far Cry Primal is still good, and still enjoyable for the most part, but it’s hard not to look at the lack of features present in Far Cry 3 and 4 and feel Primal comes up a little short. It’s still fun, but it doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy it just because you’re a fan of Far Cry.

If they had just announced it as a new IP, they could've done so much more with it. They could've changed the formula, made it a bit different rather than somewhat of a re-skin of Far Cry 4. But, with that aside, this game is very good. The story does lack a bit and the characters really lack complexity, but the rest of the game is very good. The game is utterly beautiful. The graphics are perfect for this game. The scenery is captivating, but also very brutal. And the hunting aspects would have to be the best in the series so far. While you're running around the world, you feel much more vulnerable than you would in a game like Far Cry 4. In Far Cry 4, if you run into an animal that isn't friendly and starts to attack you, you can blow it up or shoot it down where it stands. But in Primal, you have to be much more careful. Due to your lack of machine guns and RPGs, you only have spears, a bow, clubs, throwing knives, ect. This causes you to have to be more careful, because if you run into something like a bear, you're basically screwed. The game also added a new "Hunter Vision" as I like to call it, where you press in the left stick and everything turns grey except for key things. Plants, materials, and animals all get highlighted in yellow, and that makes hunting very fun and interesting. The crafting is also a very interesting thing now. Rather than just being able to buy things from vendors in previous Far Cry games, you now have to craft most of your arsenal of weaponry. Spears, arrows, throwing knives, and clubs all have to be crafted by different materials, which makes the game a lot harder than past Far Cry games as you have to be watching out for materials if you're starting to get low. Also, the side-quests aren't really anything too interesting. Usually it's just escorting 3-4 Wenja Tribesmen and women to another location and on the way you get ambushed at various spots by the Udam tribe. Or, the hostage missions, somewhat of a staple to the Far Cry series. I haven't really gotten too much into the beast taming, but from what I've seen it seems like a very awesome and interesting addition to this game. And the rest is basically anything else you would see in a Far Cry game. Instead of bell towers, there's bonfires. I was deciding whether or not to give this game a 8 or a 9, so I figured I would just say an 8.5 but round it up to a 9. This game is definitely worth your money if you're a fan of the past games. If you're just getting into the series, I would definitely recommend Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 4, because usually right now they're a lower price, and you may have troubles in this game if you aren't a veteran of the series yet. Is it a re-skin? Well yeah it is, just like COD is a re-skin and most fools continue to lap that up. At least this is different, the game offers you new weapons never seen, an amazing world to play in and a village you can work on! Now.... That being said..... MASSSSSSSIVE opportunities missed, in this era of indie gaming, kids for some reason like survival games, sure they would go outside and do it for real but they like it online. SO, this game could have been massive in the crafting, building and weapon development, even Fallout, the lord of re-skins bought in a building aspect. I think this is the one thing, the caveman era was the high of live or die, but by the time I was my 3rd level spear in with a Rare black Lion , I felt like I was walking through the game and no enemy scared me. . . . .

8/10, amazing for what it is, could have been better with more thought.

One of its greatest strenghts is how compelling it feels to the stone age setting and how its world and your interaction with it stays so loyal to the stone age hunter niche.

I was worried how the beastmaster skills would turn out, but I can now confirm that it's one of the best features about this game. Apart from being crucial in turning the tide of battle, your beast, once tamed, becomes your well behaved companion, your body guard, and basically your "don't mess with me" calling card.

It's exceptionally rewarding to see the tangible affects you have on your village and your tribe the more you begin to conquer this world.

Primal is an excellent game all round, gameplay, combat, visuals and audio score - wise, however the graphics detail could have been a little bit better on the console version with noticeable draw distance, water and hair detail being particularly lacking for next gen,  but graphics will always be second to gameplay.

If you have mixed feelings about getting it I can assure you this is one hell of a fun experience that you should give a try, well worth the money.

I find the story realistic for its time; I don't think the prehistoric age would really have had complex villains when our species wasn't yet intellectually complex. Large, violent people would rise to the top in small societies, which is what has happened in the case of the Udam tribe in the game. Repetitive gameplay and a bland story that ruins the experience. You keep playing to see if that "story moment" starts to kick in. But it never happens. All the time is more of the same. Until the story mode is finished and is so disappointing.

And I am not going back to finish side missions. It's a torture.

Maybe ubisoft should think about creating more walking simulators in the game market. They already have the beautiful dunia engine...

The most important part is the emergent game play that is a FarCry staple which makes the game just plain fun. The second most important aspect to FarCry Primal is the Taming!! It is by far the best part. Going into battle with a white wolf or a black Rare Dhole is extremely addicting. I haven't done a mission in 5 hours as I have been hunting bear and leopards with my white wolf without end. Seeing the bright yellow smoke trail of a Rare specie is thrilling. You see that smoke trail and the hunt begins. However, you always have to be on your toes because of the emergent game play. There is always something happening. The weapon wheel works very good. Being able to craft at at a moments notice or set your arrows, spears or clubs on fire is incredible. Fire, oh the beautiful fire is an ally and nemesis all at once. You can use it to kill your enemies but be careful that it doesn't backfire and kill you as well. The Owl is another amazing feature. Being able to take control of your Owl to attack enemies or survey an area is great. The weapons and hit points are very well done. I highly recommend this game. It's the most fun I have had since Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor. It's one of those games where you can play for 30 hours without doing a mission. However, I highly recommend you fight your way to Tensay the Shaman right away to unlock Beast Master! The game was so fun but exploded once I became a Beast Master. I gave FarCry Primal a 10 as it's the best release in the franchise.

They added more emphasis to the world, giving it more interaction and having the day-night cycles be important and you can tame the wildlife so you can even the odds and have a pretty awesome pet to be your sidekick. I would be the first to praise a game that can get away from using guns, doing something different. I welcome innovation, if it's actually something new.

Like Sleeping Dogs where the majority of the game you don't use guns, cause they're illegal to own in China. Smart reason to focus more on awesome fighting. I was expecting to see that here but the mechanics are still the same. Of course there's the bow but the melee weapons feel like your swinging a crowbar in Half Life 1. I would have liked to see the melee weapon attacks be really fleshed out with a cool new system behind them but they're just short ranged guns... if that makes any sense.

There are a lot of new ideas which I love but when the mechanics are so similar it makes it difficult to feel like I'm playing a new game. It's not a bad game but it's not a good Far Cry game. As just a game goes it's pretty good and fun to play. But the major problem people had with Far Cry games were how repetitive the gameplay would become. Capture outpost, scout the area then do a mission. Rinse repeat. This game needed a more in depth gameplay style to match the combat but eventually you fall under that same cycle as previous games.

Lastly if the mechanics don't stick out from previous games, the visuals will. If you played Far Cry 4 you'll notice It doesn't look any different aside from the prehistoric theme. Which makes me disappointed because Far Cry 3 was an incredible looking game... at the time. It blew other open world games out the water with impressive visuals and its beautiful landscapes. Sadly they've riding that same engine for a long time now.

I'd say wait for a price drop, but definitely check it out.

Another thing that is realistic about Primal is that you have to craft all of your weapons, you can't just drive to the nearest shop and buy an AK-47 for 30 quid. Another cool thing you can do is call in an Owl to mark enemies, before you go in axe swinging. The environments are spectacular and fun to explore. Another cool thing is that Sabre's will proceed to hunt and kill you, not the other way around. There are a few problems that hold the game back though. Firstly, there is no room for depth, or good voice acting, because every character in the game speaks a weird language that the player can't understand, and subtitles are the only way of understanding what the characters are saying. Secondly, the story itself is very uninteresting and boring, and rarely makes you go wow at the sense of scale. Though Primal is not as good as FC3, it is better than FC4 and a step in the right direction for the Far Cry franchise. Expand

Should I call for a lion and storm them with a spear? Or maybe a jaguar and stealthily take them out one by one with bow and beast attacks?

+ FAST loading times. This is a must for me. If I'm discovered when I want to stealth, I let them kill me so that I can try again. A few seconds later.
+ The music and sound effects make it so enjoyable to advance in all aspects of the game.
+ Huge world, with enough fast travel locations.
+ Enjoyable, even after all scripted missions are done.
+ Weird language adds to the atmosphere.
+ Collecting flowers and other stuff are not a chore, but fun and instantly rewarding.

    - A few bugs, most annoying that I cannot feed my beast from time to time.
    - Grappling hook locations... They are all over the place when I want to go down, in which case I just slide down to save time. And they are NOWHERE to be found when I want to go up!
    - Graphics are so-so in places. But I prefer this over slow loading times.

HOWEVER, if you are looking for another generic FPS with a vast arsenal at your disposal then you will probably be disappointed with Farcry Primal, but to be honest you shouldn't need me to tell you that considering the time period it is set in. Also if you were looking for the next big thing in graphics this game is on par with Farcry 4 with a few visual tweaks here and there. The graphics are beautiful for the PS4. I mean it won't look as good as it will on PC, but considering it is a console I have been impressed.

The sound is great on surround. It really plays a key part when hunting.

The people who have given this a bad review probably haven't played through the game long enough to see that there are some big differences. The Owl for one, then you can coordinate attacks and do multiple things at once to take out a village. Such as mark everything with your owl, then send your pet cat in, switch back to owl drop beehives, then go back to your character rush in and slide while throwing your weapon. I hope this has helped those who are reading all the bad reviews. I mean who doesn't want to be a caveman riding a mammoth.

    2) The use of wild animals and owl makes too easy fights.
    3) the to-hand combat with the club is not very nice and confused.
But far cry Primal remains a good game with a crafting system finally convincing and sympathetic characters despite their primitive essence. Far Cry is very primal First Person ... but little shooter. It might please those who do not appreciate the fps..ma might not appeal to those who love fps. The addition of spears and clubs makes the less dynamic but more stealthy gameplay.
After eight hours of play, and 20% of unlocked trophies I can say that the game is very funny, original and charming but if the developers had taken of the most original choices, perhaps a little delaying the release date, we would have had in his hands a masterpiece.

So far, so good; 'Far Cry Primal' is my favorite game of 2016. I LOVE IT! The graphics are definitely an upgrade from FC4 too, regardless of what some critics have said. For me, 'Primal' is a big breath of fresh air overall, and for the FC franchise. If you're tired of wandering around the sandbox with overpowered guns while shooting & blowing-up everything in sight; if you liked sneaking around in previous Far Cry games versus guns-blazing; if you like animals and nature, and liked that aspect of previous Far Cry games; then 'Primal' is definitely your game.
While 'Primal' follows the familiar framework of previous Far Cry games, it fits 'Primal' perfectly. Some critics have said it's repetitive, that it has a weak story & weak characters, etc., etc..those are such cliche criticisms, and they're simply not true. Rating a game is tough--it's a matter of taste--as everyone likes different things in a game. No, this isn't a game that's super heavy on story, but it definitely has a great story. Looking back at FC4's terrible story, 'Primal' definitely excels in the storytelling department. Also, I've never played a game that has you playing as a caveman in a totally natural world, devoid of all modern technology, and I LOVE IT! In the place of high-tech gadgets, there are a ton of cool weapons and old-world gadgets, including a grappling hook, a rock sling a la David & Goliath, and creative 'bombs' among a few other cool things like throwing "knives". Most all of these are upgrade-able too. For me, 'Primal' is nearly the perfect Far Cry game.
    The few CON'S:
Things I was hoping for and/or more of were small things, but all the same; the personalized customization of weapons (like in CoD), gear, and building your own custom home camps & caves (like in Fallout 4) would've been cool. Also, more specialized play-styles would've been fun and made the replay value higher (although the four different difficulty settings help that). The only thing I absolutely do not like is the resource gathering system; especially early in the game, it is needlessly confusing and there is NO good or easy way to manage your resources. A loot stash would've helped immensely. Also, a glossary containing a bestiary, NPC bio's, and a deeper explanation of the world would've been nice. For a game so focused on techniques, these are important things, and that's why I'm giving it a score of 8/10.
    The PRO'S:
I've said most of them already, but: Excellent feeling of immersion in an awesome world, a very cool theme that caters to nature lovers, the A.I. is the best of any Far Cry as both "human" enemies and animals behave very realistically (esp. for a video game(!)), some cool NPC's, great graphics--not amazing, but very nice, esp. considering the size of the world and compared to FC4, lots of fun & intuitive Tomb Raider-style missions, and I give Ubisoft extra kudos for taking a chance on making a "caveman game"...all worthy of praise.
    FINAL WORDS:
Rarely do I play a game for more than three or four hours at a time. Yesterday I played 'Primal' for over five hours and I was NEVER bored and hardly ever frustrated. The balance of humor & seriousness in the story is excellent, and helping my fellow Wenja tribesmen (and women) balanced with getting back at some--at times hilarious--enemies made for a truly enjoyable experience. Nature lovers rejoice; FINALLY, I've found a Far Cry game that I can really sink my teeth into!

Este juego debió de haber sido como el Blood dragon, una expansión que no necesita del juego original para jugarse, a precio reducido y con el carisma y originalidad del mismo, pero no hay que sacar un juego repetitivo y a precio completo.

I've been quite disappointed by Farcry Primal. For a game that has dropped down to 30FPS for the sake of graphics, the graphics are abysmal and distracting. The shadowing is well overdone, and makes it hard to focus on actual events happening. The overall textures are blurry, and poor quality. The game itself, while interesting, lacks a in depth storyline, or anything grabbing about the gameplay that wasn't present in previous far cry games. I won't say that this game is a re-skin of far-cry 4, because that isn't accurate. The game feels like they have tried to make it from scratch, and rehash the title, but have failed to do so, falling into similar patterns as previous games, but the execution is poor. Half of what I enjoyed about the previous games was the variety of weapons, and attachments so that I can play the game how I choose, but this game fails to have an interesting weapon or upgrade system. The character upgrades are repetitive, and don't let you play the game your way, just the way the developers intended.

The game isn't bad, but there is certainly room for improvement that cannot be fixed with patches.

Feels like a dumbed down version of the previous with animal buddies... options are scares and some things are just not imerssive or impressive. Not worth the money... get h1z1 or another farcry.

They removed the best feature of Far Cry which is coop. There is no excuse for this. They are basically stripping down Far Cry 4 and trying to sell it to you again for full price. I thought games were supposed to evolve with each version not devolve?

There's something about Ubisoft these days. Maybe they have just lost the ability to make a game that doesn't have the same mechanics as every other game they make or maybe its just because they are money hungry so they come up with a credible idea but slash the budget to the point where they can no longer do what they wanted so instead we get another downgraded shambles being passed offThere's something about Ubisoft these days. Considering FC is a AAA franchise, Ubisoft should have no excuses on the graphics in FCP compared to FC4. Watchdogs was the second to last straw for me. That game and even the idea looked great at the E3 showing then the release looks like a downgraded version of GTA IV.

Then the last straw was The Crew. What a horrible, glitchy mess that turned out to be. Instead of fixing it they just created The Crew: Wild Run and expected everyone to pay full price again! No apologies, no refunds, no goodwill gestures for wasting $60 on a game that was broken from the start.

FCP looks like FarCry 0.5 because that waterfall in-game says it all. Ubisoft have continually screwed its customers and keeps getting away with it. Warner Bros. did this with Arkham Knight but they actually honored refunds and even gave those affected, all the Arkham games as a goodwill gesture.

Ubisoft did nothing yet they are still allowed to screw gamers over with their rehashed crap.

I preordered this game since I had a good time with Far cry 4. I kind of regretted after I saw some walkthroughs of beta. After I played the game by myself, this feeling became even stronger. So far I couldn't find any interesting plots. Well, maybe you couldn't expect too much from cavemen. It's simply defending territory, tame as many animals as you could. I get the same exhilarating feeling as the last FC games when I throw a bee bomb/fire bomb at the enemies and hear them scream (what voice acting !) while I bludgeon the other enemies to death with my clubs and spears. It's especially fun just throwing your stone club in the enemies face and watching blood spurt out of their head. Then there's the animals, traps and poison bombs. My point is that the developers gave me lot of satisfying ways to kill an enemy so the game never became boring, which is a huge surprise. The stealth too seemed samey at first but I like how they added new animations (clubbing people in the head is hilarious), more satisfying sounds (love the sound of the shard hitting the target's head/neck) and death animation to keep the same stealth take downs fun. The rating would be higher if it had a better and focused story and more defined characters. Expand

One of the greatest disappointment in this game is the immediate sense that this is a Far Cry 3 and 4 reskin with little or no added value to the series whatsoever. It is indeed a pretty game with a peculiar setting, but lacks any soul. The gameplay is repetitive to hell and makes you feel like doing the same thing all over again.

There some interesting components for this game but overall its just the same mechanics from the other Far Cry games. The story is absolutely generic and a chore. Taming animals seems like a cheap way of playing once you reached the higher levels. In fact there is hardly any weapons in this game and you just become dependent on the animals.

Why is that the next game is not afraid to show penises but the vagina is still taboo? Do you think that in prehistoric times women were completely covered? I hate feminist propaganda in games. Dear game developers... it's embarrassing. I will not support it.

the only great thing here are the graphics and sound. childish characters and story, feels like it was made for kids. not enough violence like always in ubi games. also the capturing of enemy outposts is nowhere as fun as in farcry 4, just dull clubbin/stabbing. same old looting/crafting/skilltree system we have seen a million times before. really disappointed with this one

The setting used to disguise the Far Cry we’ve already seen is fresh and wonderful, it’s easy to sink into this wild, beautiful, majestic world. Primal was put together skillfully, it’s not an outstanding game, but it’s so enjoyable that I devoured it hour after hour with an appetite of a cave bear. [04/2016, p.28]
