I've played around 20 hours of Fallout 4 so far and I've experienced 4 bugs that I remember. I have experienced more bugs than that in many other games. This is the least buggy Bethesda Product I've ever played. Luckily, I'm playing it on the PS4.

Beyond all of the technical aspects of this game, it is the most fun I've had in a long while. Even though I may run into a bug or get caught on the leveling system occasionally, no game that's come out recently has dragged me in quite as strongly as Fallout 4. Really, game are meant to be fun and the smiles per dollar ratio of this game is through the roof.

I also noticed that the patch updates also seem to fix a lot of the bugs and frame rate problems that were present last time I played. This has definitely made the game a lot smoother and better.
    Pros:
    Map size is pretty big
Easy to get lost and explore
    Tons of things to do
Soundtrack is really good for setting
    Customization is plentiful

    Cons:
Story could have been so much better
    Voice acting needs improvement
Graphics could have also been much better
Game focuses to much on creating a community. Why?

Overall, this game is well worth adding to any collection of RPG's especially for the $30.00 price tag. Is this The Witcher 3 quality of story telling? No, but this game is in it's own genre of exploration with little RPG elements that has very little effect on the story. Pick a direction and go, this is what this game is known for.

Fallout 4 is simply just a great game, that offers you so much to do in its large open world and is a joy to play every time you play it. It is also worth mentioning that Fallout 4 has an improved story and more varied and all around better companions that just helps make this game even better, and should be played by anyone who enjoys open world games.

-The voice acting was a cool addition but limited the dialogue options. Also, if you quicksave right before a charisma attempt, you'll notice that whether you fail or not, the character's delivery is EXACTLY the same.

-The pathing of enemy AI is very poor. By that, I mean that I can jump back and forth over a 2 foot guard rail and a deathclaw will be forced to run all the way around instead of just hopping over
    .
-Companions are a huge PITA and will often walk right in front of you as you're throwing a grenade or taking a stealthy shot from afar.

    - Radio is boring. ThreeDog, or even Mr. New Vegas from previous games are much better than Travis,

-The new settlements were fun and contributed to at least half of my playtime, but once the release hype faded, I realized I was playing a souped up Farmville. A majority of gameplay is reduced to filling up on junk, fast traveling home and repeating.

-No Soul. The time I left vault 101 in Fallout 3, Bethesda had already taken me on a magic carpet ride of emotions. From birth, my birthday party, my first crush, dealing with bullies, and ultimately leaving the shelter, by the time the intro was over, I had already established the fundamentals of my character’s identity. Fallout 4 takes that level of character building and attachment to narrative and flushes it down the toilet. I found myself completely unmoved by the elimination of specific main characters, and change of circumstances because I had not been given a reason to care. In Fallout 3 I wanted so badly for my girlfriend (Amata) to follow me into the wasteland, and felt so sad that she didn’t want to leave with me.

No Karma Sytem -My biggest complaint about Fallout 4 in general was the removal of the Karma system. The karma system was exchanged for a faction system in New Vegas. Many of us hoped that maybe it was just an Obsidian thing and that as soon as Bethesda made a new Fallout that the Karma system would make its triumphant return. Unfortunately this was not the case. In fact when trying to just be evil in Fallout 4 there were absolutely no repercussions other than angry NPCs. In the main quest, it is impossible to be a bad guy. No matter what you say the plot moves forward the same way with little to no difference had you chose the ‘nice guy’ dialogue options. I’m not saying that this is a deal breaker for me, but I believe it’s a big talking point for those who really loved the ‘play your own way’ aspects of Bethesda games.

    - Graphic looks outdated but this is less important than story / quests or gameplay.

    Positve:

+Gameplay. While the game did leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, I can say that I really enjoyed flying over enemies, landing on them and proceeding to decapitate some fools with my Chinese officer's sword. Also, the shooting quality was a huge step up from past games.

+The weapon upgrade system is nice However, there isn't as much available for armor

I started playing the Fallout series with Fallout 3 on PS3, and I loved it. It got me into the Elder Scrolls games too, and I played both Oblivion and Skyrim. I bought New Vegas, loved it and played the hell out of it. I'm now playing Fallout 4, and to be honest its not a good game, maybe a "OK" game but very bad a Fallout 4 game.i give 4 out of 10 im very dissapointed :( *sniff*

I FULLY CONCEDE: It isn't the series-changing, genre-altering behemoth we were expecting, but even though, it is fantastic. I would agree that it isn't directly *best* Fallout game out there but compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas, in many areas it is an improvement and only in a few others it seems like a down-grade. All the Trogs that think "the graphics are bad. 1/10" are mistaking this game for something it's not. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls have NEVER really been about graphics and animations so realistic they make people wonder if it is real life, instead they have veer towards aesthetics and atmosphere. It has been about the gameplay and content over all else. Priority 1: Gameplay and content. Priority 2: Story: Priority 3: Graphics.
While the story is a bit same-old, same-old and predictable almost to the point where some parts you wonder if you wrote it, I don't personally think that this should totally bring the game down. It does seem as though Bethesda Softworks have switched priority 2 and 3 around, but maybe that is not too much of a bad thing.

On with the dogmeat of the review. Starting with the bad.

Personally, I know this may draw some Flak, but I think the voiced protagonist isn't exactly a good thing. In a game where I make a character and am supposed to make that character almost an virtual extension of myself, I don't like the fact that someone who sounds nothing like me and may not be feeling the way I feel personally speaks for me. In addition, some times (though rare) the emotions, selections and words that the actor says haven't always been fitting with the conversation so far. I know that is hard to achieve, but it is weird to go from Sarcastic, funny-guy to "Please help me find them!" while practically crying his/her eyes out. Or when you select an option and he seems to say something you weren't expecting. Like "O - What's Bloop?" then he says "I have never heard of that" instead of asking the question. That wasn't an option, just an example. I find I can't connect as well to their story as much as I could to 101 from Fallout 3.
Also, I find the enemies in the beginning are ridiculously over-powered. One of the first missions involves a Deathclaw and Power Armour. Ain't no one got time from that 5 seconds out the Vault. Fortunately, they do ease up, but when the only weapons you can find are piddly hand guns which may as well fire water, it gets quite draining.
Arguably (thought this isn't too bad) the graphics and animations are a bit sub-par for current gen, but considering content, I give that a pass.

    Finally the good stuff.

I'll tell you a story of 1 in-game day in the Fallout 4 to better describe the good points. No spoilers.
I decided, like a boss, to travel and try to unlock as much of the main city as possible. I set out at 9 AM from Diamond city, full of excitement and eager, and immediately regretted it. I marched my way south at first and head-first into a host of Supermutants who very nearly finished me off. I sneaked away from them and breathed a sigh of relief before quickly realizing, I had no clue as to where I was or how to get back to Diamond city.after learning my lesson and now going everywhere in sneak, I decided to make my way East to the coast and just explore my way around the periphery of the City to build strength before delving into the heart. Middle of the day, I encountered a large Raider camp. Taking several out before being spotted, I suddenly realized they were everywhere. Above, behind and all sides. I held my own and after ages of fighting and many Stimpaks later, I came out on top, low on health, ammo and suddenly realizing I was too far from Diamond to return and was thrust into a real fight for survival. Using the weapons and ammo I had scavenged from the Raiders and a few Supermutants they killed while fighting me, I saw the sun was setting. I stopped for a second to soak in the way the sky was illuminated in a warm glow, the columns of shadow coming from the buildings. By the time I realized I should get moving, darkness. Pitch black and the only thing guiding me were sounds of sporadic gunfire and Raider chatter telling me to avoid and area and ominous campfires promising aid and ammo if I could take it. I remained largely in one area over night only venturing around 1 or 2 blocks with caution until I felt tough enough to move 1 block - into disaster. Ghouls came at me from all directions and once they were dispatched, I alerted Raiders who came with a vengeance. I retreated into a Supermutant nest and hid as much as I could while Supermutants, Raiders and a few Ghouls uked it out into the beautiful pink-skies of the morning when I finally saw a chance to run from the Bus I was hiding in and legged it. The only stroke of luck through this whole ordeal was I ran straight into Diamond city. No, practically an Agoraphobic, my character barely leaves the city after that.

Instead you get scripted set pieces and events that happen based on your characters actions. Lack of variation in the environment; Every area looks similar to one other aside from buildings but there are some exceptions like the Glowing Sea or Boston Common. The factions present in the game, Bethesda tried their best to make them varying but they are all pretty much after the same goals. Ironically Fallout 4 actually left me feeling no connection to the Commonwealth as the choices I made neither changed the map, territory of certain factions or the weather. The only thing that actually changed was settlements. Settlements, limitless simple tasks to gain area to craft and rest but that's pretty much it. In earlier games like Fallout New Vegas if you were to adventure into the open you would stumble on an interesting scene or battle however in Fallout 4 this is more rare and more likely you will be attacked by a legendary creature before you actually got to see something interesting. The lack of weapons and clothing should also be noted as most of the weapons present in the game is a type of pistol; The actual interesting weapons such as Laser Guns or Energy Weapons are rare and either look unattractive sound annoying or both. The assault and combat rifles look bland and dull, Few interesting or varying weapons, which is a real deal-breaker for me. Combat actually feels devolved from the last games and less immersive. Armors usually range from small sets of items that you can equip on your body but there doesn't seem to be any variation aside from color or material and the cool looking glowish or flamed clothing in no where to be found. Cloth is awful on it's own so lets not go into that cause of lack of casual or modern attire, lack of any powerful combat armor that doesn't look like a robot, lack of attractive faction attire. You run out of ammo very fast and need to constantly switch weapons or find some. Mods do not turn the game into a new experience the most mods can do is create interesting new weapons and settlements but that's about it. A.I mods are decent but could be better as followers disappear and all environment mods due is add vegetation. Most mods require some type of DLC to work and Sony refuses to allow any real changes to come to this already short lived game. Fallout 4 is immensely boring and the developers do little to change this throughout your "journey" through the Commonwealth you will kill, fight, eat, sleep, die, help and that's it the main story line can be captivating some times but falls to certain cliches like "you must have x amount of x to complete this quest. Some characters are likable but other annoy the hell out of you and make you want to kill them. Fallout 4 also does a horrible job of "splitting the story" as in creating your own arcs or alternate missions cause these only include help the x settlement defend x OVER and OVER. Or go fetch x from x! it's mediocre to it's core what we wanted was some epic adventure story with awesome enemies and weapons we did not get this. Fallout 4 could have done more to improve the game like add more weapons and perks but they choose not to. The devs failure to innovate outside of DLC has dramatically reduced Fallout 4's replay value. Certain situations where you should be able to intervene are not present and instead you are given simple scripted events like help x fight x! It is a disappointment to say the least. I guess when I was playing the Vanilla version of this game completely mod-free the promise of reward and adventure kept me going and kept me curious but now I've realized what a truly empty experience it is. I'm gonna be honest I was very disappointed with Fallout 4. That said it still is enjoyable in some aspects; the shooting mechanics are better then ever, the weapon and base crafting are addicting and overall good additions. And that's about all the praise I can give.

The new dialogue system coupled with a voiced protagonist is probably the worst change since 3, speech choices are much more limited and is often presented as vague "yes" "no" "sarcastic" responses that the voice actor says in dull unconvincing performances. The story has a very cringe worthy scripted start and is a flipped version of 3 in terms of plot and the voice actor for the main character does not help. One thing I have to address is how awful the awful lip syncing and animation for the characters you talk to are, seriously it looks like it came from the ps2.

Level progression has also changed into a simplified skill tree which turns your character into one build that can do anything in stead of allowing for fun unique builds like 3 and New Vegas did. Its also very easy, you can acquire the most powerful weapons very early on and the new version of power armor in the form of a mech suit(that you also get early on) will remove any sense of challenge that remained.

The graphics are unimpressive and the frame rate is pretty bad oftentimes going below 30fps when too many things are happening. The environments are more varied than 3 and look much better than 3 obviously but are still pretty bland in design.

Though It is addicting and will give you many hours of gameplay it pretty obvious that New Vegas did it better.

Fallout 4 is a pretty good game and one of my fav games this year my real score for this game would be 8.5 out of 10.

First I say this game is worth getting for sure, great game play, great companions (even if they do get in you way sometimes). The Character customization is pretty amazing with lots more options than Fallout 3 and NV. The weapon modding system is really fun tho I do

I also found the settlement building kind of fun and a nice change for the Fallout series.

The only bad things about this game are that the main story is kind of shallow and doesn't really feel important in my opinion and I found the ending pretty disappointing.

Graphics wise I didn't think they were that bad. I Always say Gameplay > Graphics

The Fallout series is known for detailed worlds that were fun to explore, aesthetically pleasing, immersive and yet Fallout 4 is lacking in all areas. FalloutThe Fallout series is known for detailed worlds that were fun to explore, aesthetically pleasing, immersive and yet Fallout 4 is lacking in all areas. This review will describe my experience with Fallout 4 but also heavily consider, compare and contrast with against the series because I believe it essential to fully understand why Fallout 4 failed as an anticipated sequel. Fallout developed a formula that worked, ever since the very first game it was able to capture the iconic post-apocalyptic feel of the series so well. Through the music, mechanics, and overall world that is generated; Fallout is known for memorable immersive game-play. The series changes over from isometric point-and-click to third/first-person in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Through this change, players were able to absorb the world around them even more so through this new formula

Quests are a powerful and essential part of the Fallout series that expand the world and offer narrative and meaning to the desolate environment.. Side-quests greatly influenced the game-play as simply traversing the world would lead into ambiguous and yet engaging story-lines that would ultimately contribute to a player's own personal story. Fallout: New Vegas was most successful at this as many of quests were presented in a more subtle manner than three and therefore offered more narrative. Side-quests were plentiful in New Vegas and felt substantial especially considering the faction system.

The game-play mechanics of Fallout especially in Fallout 3 and New Vegas complimented the experience perfectly and felt natural. Looting, shooting, inventory management, the perk system and diversity in availability of items and weapons made everything seem fresh and intuitive. Being able to play the game uniquely through based on personal play-style was very important as individuals could do this with variety. This added to characterization and immersion.

Fallout 4 lacked so much in terms of what made the series a phenomenal success and memorable for fans. It lost the feel of the world and adopted a new game-play style that felt nothing like what made the character feel immersed. The newer style feels intuitive and yet doesn't match the role-played style of the series, much rather it accustomed to a game reminiscent of a shooter genre. This leads into the other major issue being the world and quests; the game lacked narrative structure and exploration. Fallout is filled with dead-ends and major lack of opportunity. It is built for players that prefer action over immersion and that is one of the biggest problems of the sequel. The entire mentality behind what the philosophy of Fallout was changed. Fallout being a game where environment and world were so heavily emphasized, Fallout 4 chooses to instead deliver fast-paced linear quest lines.

The quests of Fallout 4 were its biggest downfall due to the lack of choice, opportunity, and overall meaning. The main quests are very linear and barely offer decision based on narrative reflection or moral judgment. They are abrupt and do not contribute at all to a sense of belonging to the world the player navigates throughout the game. Rather, the game feels tedious as due to a lack of interesting side-quests or side-quests at all for that matter. The world feels ultimately empty and is meant as more of a playground where the character feels empowered through weapons and power armor that don't fit the mood and feel of classic apocalyptic Fallout themes. The series was built of subtlety where the character felt vulnerable and there was a sense of unease. In Fallout 4, there is no characterization and game-play although feeling modern does not reflect a sense of playing a role in world that's truly unique. Fallout 4 lacks these key features and fails to create the ideal Fallout experience.

Fallout 4 is not a bad game, it offers many changes that make for great modern role-playing game play however it lacks the classic immersion of Fallout. The modern RPG is heavily reliant on the formula created by the Fallout series and Fallout 4 disregards many of its key elements. Instead it is appealing to changing industry that demands much of big release titles. Fallout 4 is too laid back, it has removed the themes that brought nuance to the game. Fallout was about being independent, engaging in multi-layered narratives and experiencing a world that was threatening. This is no longer the case and is why Fallout 4 ultimately fails to truly capture the vision set out by its predecessors.

I just started a new playthrough of Fallout 4, it really isn't good,is it? I cleared it on release and liked it. To warm up to FO 76, which I did not, and will not buy basically because it's even more watered out than FO4, I cleared FO3 and NV. I gave up on FO4 after about 10 hours, the pacing, skill, dialogue and quest trees are just bad and felt reduced so shortly after FO3 and NV. I seriously miss the skill checks in dialogue, and therefor the skill points system. I miss more dialogue options and quest branching. The building mechanics are just horribly boring and tedious. And hearing about 76, I think it would be close to the worst thing I could have played. I do hope they inject a little more RPG into their games again. Expand

This game might be promising on the content offered, but it suffers too much of its developer difficulties to have a stable game. Between out-dated shot accuracy with a controller, random crashes, and technical limitations, the feel of the game vanishes way too early.

Still, to someone liking post-apocalyptic scenes it is still a game with quite a lot of content to offer; but it's not

A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
