I picked up Ender Lilies most because of the art style. It reminds me of a Vanillaware game. Also I'm a fan of Metroidvania games. Although I haven't played many of the popular Indie ones. Where to begin with this game? I'm about 3 hours in as of writing this. I'm finding the game really mediocre.

Where to begin with this game? I'm about 3 hours in as of writing this. I'm finding the game really mediocre.

The combat is okay, but there is this lag when you swing your weapon. So you're stuck in this pose which leaves you open for attacks. Speaking of attacks, all the mobs all seem to use projectiles. I did get a projectile grenade like attack that does help, but you're given only so many charges. For a side scrolling game the hit boxes are atrocious. You could be well away from an enemy attack and still get hit for whatever reason. I often found myself dodging only to dodge into another enemy or dodge and still get hit by the enemy from dodging though them. Bosses are damage sponges. You have to beat them almost flawlessly because their attacks are going to kill you in one or two hits. This would be fine if the leveling system actually did something. But I read that leveling doesn't give you any sort of advantage since enemies scale to your level. So, what's the point of leveling then? Overall combat feels stiff and boring. Just memorize the enemy patterns and hope for the best.

Exploration isn't fun. I'm just going into a straight line. Nothing about the world makes me want to explore or even question what kind of place was this before everything happened. This is because each room looks pretty much the same from the last. They couldn't make the zones a little more distinct? Instead they're too big and a slog to get through. It's hard to know what you can and cannot jump on. Something might look like it's a part of the background but you can actually jump on it. The mini map does indicate there are branching parts in the room, but there is no indication where the branch is so you might just walk past it. It's frustrating and causes unnecessary backtracking. There should be a better indicator where a door or path is in the background.

Also for a game like this there isn't much incentive TO explore. You might find some mcguffin to spend on your spirit pals or maybe a +5 to HP boost. But I guess I wish there was a little more variation. Like finding different armors or weapons to equip. The game feels lacking in the things to find. Isn't that one of the main things of these kinds of games? I feel like I'm clearing one rectangle room just to clear out the next rectangle room. While not actually finding anything important.

Honestly the music is the worst part of this experience. Not sure why they decided on using these slow piano pieces. It puts me to sleep. It just loops and loops too. If it were any good I wouldn't mind. But it really makes everything from the exploration to combat even more boring. I actually put on the Castlevania Symphony of the Night soundtrack and it made the experience a lot better. So I think the music is going to be a huge factor for some.

The plot is non existent and you only learn about things through files you collect and by purifying people. Still not sure about what my mission is, my motivations, or why I should continue on.

I don't understand the praise for this game. It's just so mediocre and tries to do what a lot of other games have done better in past. Also, you get the double jump in the first 30 minutes. What the hell?

A game with good haunting atmosphere and amazing Music and gameplay that is addicting and very good bosss.
I enjoyed it so much that I got a platinum trophy for it and it says a lot because it took me about 14 hours .
The way you can see the main character is getting corrupted slowly in the game is amazing. I looked at this style and how the Explorer work. And the game is a good amount

And the game is a good amount of challenge all the way through the bosses are fair and it didn't take me to long to figure out their parents.

Only a couple bosses had cool looking designs but even those ones were pretty boring fight wise. This game was extremely frustrating at times for me, more frustrating than Hollow Knight or any Fromsoft game or basically anything I've played which also drops my score a but. It was frustrating in a bad way, not hard in a good way. Expand

PlayStation version is the best. The developers are also Asian, which means they used PlayStation as lead platform. Best version is this one.

The combat is fast and responsive, the difficulty is perfect, the soundtrack is flawless, and the leveling systems are completely understandable. I love that the map tells you if there are unexplored routes, and if you have completed the area. I overall love this game, its design, its music, and its characters. The story is really good too! I 100% recommend this game to anyone that likes metroidvanias. Expand

That's what Ender lillies is, a minimalistic 'check boxes for metroidvania' without any soul ou passion. Combat is lacking, a lousy short dodge, no block, no equipment. Difficulty based on those same defective mechanics, enemies shoot homing missiles you can't block, bosses do aoe attacks you can't dodge out of. Minimalistic level up, 1-2 attack points per levelup. The 'infamous' music (5 piano notes) quickly gets on the nerves and is to be removed. Basically tedious antifun crap, unless you're on a quest to play ALL metroidvanias Expand

    WHITE NIGHTS

    BEFORE WE BEGIN:
Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knight is a video game produced by Binary Haze Interactive and published on January 21, 2021. The game was completed 100% on Xbox Series X.

    SOME RAIN MUST FALL:
Ender Lilies begins with a small visual introduction to the game world, introducing the player to the great evil afflicting the planet. Endless corrupted rain has turned all living creatures into impure and immortal beings. The only salvation from this fate lies in the young white maidens, girls who can deprive the creatures of their corruption. The player wakes up inside a broken capsule, assuming the role of one of these maidens, Lily, the last descendant of the white priestess. From there on, the goal is to purify the still sentient creatures in order to restore what this realm once was, bringing back serenity and stopping the endless rain.

    WHITE ECLIPSES BLACK:
This title faithfully brings all the mechanics that characterize a pure Metroidvania: different abilities unlockable throughout the game that open up previously inaccessible paths, a currency to upgrade abilities, various secret and non-secret bosses to face, and multiple paths that can be taken simultaneously. Additionally, Ender Lilies takes a lot of inspiration from Hollow Knight, with explicit references like benches and relics, similar to the aforementioned game's charms. The game's unique selling point and distinguishing feature from the rest is the type of attack available to the player. Lily will use the souls of purified fighters to defeat enemies, and it's possible to use up to three simultaneously, and six thanks to the convenient set swapping.

    PALE COLORS:
The game's graphics are well-crafted, with different parallax layers that change for each game area. The use of muted colors to enhance the mood and devastation of this land is fully exploited. Furthermore, the visual effects add an extra boost to the gameplay. One drawback of the game is the limited variety of enemies and the similarly lacking diversity of the bosses, which are not very powerful or distinct.

    WINTER:
The audio component is what stands out prominently above everything else. Most of the game's soundtracks are original and elegant. The latter adjective is the one that resonates throughout the game, contrasting with the chaos generated by the rain. The sound effects complement the visuals and enhance the game's combat, making it very fluid and entertaining.

    BUT WHY 8?

    PROS:
The game, despite being a classic Metroidvania, adds a touch of novelty to the combat, supported by excellent audiovisual effects that keep the experience flowing towards the end without becoming boring or repetitive. Moreover, the challenge offered by the central bosses is balanced and entertaining, unlike the mini-bosses, which can be easily defeated with powerful abilities. The originality of the story context is well-structured and leaves room for curiosity. The exploration is also very interesting, and each map has multiple secrets, some of which are difficult to find. Additionally, it is highly appreciated that you can replay boss fights and engage in a boss rush, as well as the ability to modify all game parameters such as enemy and protagonist health and attack to create a greater personal challenge.

    CONS:
The cons of this game are varied but highly subjective. Starting with the overly obvious inspiration from Hollow Knight and other Metroidvania games, such as Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, from which it borrows the combat style.

When you die, you’re sent back to the last rest point without penalty. The game still offers some customisation in its combat, but its approach is simplified. The lack of a deep combat system might be a turn-off to those looking for a challenge, but we applaud the devs for allowing more players to get through it – which is more than can be said of some of its inspirations. Tying everything together is an art style that, once again, makes Ender Lilies easy to get into. It certainly features grotesque creatures, but its balance of beauty and horror is a highlight and one of the game’s best aspects. [Issue#5, p.77]

Ender Lilies is a wonderful experience and an essential if you like this type of proposal. A superb level design packed with memorable moments is finally here after a long period of Early Access, and it hasn't disappointed.
