Now let's talk about the bosses. At first I considered them fine ,I wasnt the biggest fan of them, but they were cool. That kinda changed as I was getting closer the end of the game ,as many MANY bosses were being reused ,even main ones and in the end only 9 bosses proved to be truly unique.

Moving on to another problem ,which is the lategame .I've noticed that the lategame is balanced around meta builds(which can turn the game piss easy) and for me who didnt use one it was kinda harsh ,but I managed.I really think they went kinda overboard with the fights close at the end .Also I was not a fan of the end basically being a boss rush.Nonetheless I really liked some of these fights ,such as maliketh ,radagon ,melania and mohg. This review makes it seem like I dont like the game ,but that's not true, cause it's probably my 10th fav ,I'm just doing a fair critique on it.

To sum things up Elden ring is an amazing experience and non souls fans can get into it more easily compared to otheer souls. i definitely recommend it.

One of the best Open World Games of all time.
It's an instant classic and an absolute pleasure to explore.
From the technical side it's pretty underwhelming though... Performance is honestly terrible and the music isn't as good as DS3 or Bloodborne.

The new features are all good, the jumping, the horse combat, the design of the incredible world, the many unique locations and the attention to detail. It's not a 10 because of the repetition of some of the bosses. I don't know what more you can ask of a game of this type, I found the exploration incredible. 100% recommended.

This game is addictive and f***ing fantastic. It doesn't need to cater to everyone to be a good game, and it shouldn't. I don't wake up every day expecting the world to cater to me. I'm not that self-entitled. I recognize when a game isn't for me. Is it perfect, nope. It has issues, but on a fun factor, it's flawless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a good Game but it is not for me. The world building is nice and the environments are beautiful to look at why it is even sadder that I could never find myself enjoying them. The story is hidden and completely missable. An overview of all characters you meet in form of diary or something similar would have been nice. Half the time I didn't even know who I was talking too The difficulty is outright unfair sometimes. Especially when ambushed by multiple enemies. I stopped playing after opening that teleporter chest that send me to these mines where everything killed me in 2-3 hits. I decided against starting a new game because the thought of it filled me with dread. Yes killing the tree sentinel and the beastman felt nice it was not worth the stress this game caused me. I found myself unable to play longer than 1 h continuously and having to take a break and calming down after each time I played.
I made it to the 16 h mark because the world was so fascinating.
If I where on PC I would look up a mod that let me walk through the world without the enemys attacking to just look at everything, but sadly I am not.

    Too hard.

It's just not fun. And although they have introduced things like summons to make gameplay easier, unless you got like a lot of MP to summon a bunch at a time, it doesn't help much for specific enemies, or at least certain kinds of summons. And I don't want this game to just become a quest for finding a bunch of summons and grinding to get more MP, just because the game is just

And I don't want this game to just become a quest for finding a bunch of summons and grinding to get more MP, just because the game is just too hard.

I don't get how people enjoy such a game, dying so often. Some claim that after winning against a boss after having died to it multiple times feels satisfying. For me, a lot of times when I get to this point, I just feel like I've wasted so much time.

To be honest, maybe it's just because I suck at these kind of games. I tried liking it, the lore looks very interesting, the enemy design and building designs look often very cool to me, and the world design in general also looks pretty good to me.

But it's just so frustrating dying so very often. If I make progress than it's just very slow until I eventually hit a road block like a boss, which makes it very frustrating for me to continue.

I don't like the game at all, but I can see how others like it. As for me, I won't be finishing it anytime soon.

This being the case I rate this game poorly, but that's probably also because this is not my type of game. I'm not good enough as a gamer to play a Souls game.

Players who give this game poor ratings are totally unfamiliar with soulslike. This game has a storyline only it is told by characters in the game world and you discover it through exploration. The game is also not perfect because some bosses are simply too easy. But to say that the game is weak because it has too big a world is to be a total ignoramus.

The camera. Jesus Christ, you will get wrecked because of the camera. Some of the bosses move too fast and erractically for the camera to keep up, and so it will either unlock or jerk away will the boss launches an attack from off screen that takes away 80% of your health. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating and to be honest - terrible design.
The platforming sections in that one tower and the sewer.

Other than that, the game is mostly great with a unique blend of RPG-elements and action gameplay. A must play for Souls-fans

I am at about the middle of it (judging by the trophy number I had up until now) and it is so boring. At some point I tried to blame myself - I don't pay enough attention to the story, I am not doing the main story enough. But it gets worse and worse - for every interesting moment, there are 10 boring fetch quests of NPCs I don't care about. Or even worse - I need to interact with an NPC and then it appears at another place to be interacted with.
The fights are plain boring - trying to understand if my character is stuck in something or the camera is clipping through the boss is the most fun in them. Otherwise it is just dodge/parry and then hit until the boss dies.
One of the dungeons seemed cool, until I realized there are 4 more like it.
The only thing I give credit to the creators is the size of the map, I think I am missing one of the territories and it is still enormous.
Updated: Finished the game, all side quests and obtained all trophies just to check if there was something I was missing. Nope, probably won't remember anything in a week.
Also if you are into graphics side of games - on PS4 there were some moments that the game looked like a PS2 one (looking at the ground from a very high place usually).

Let me preface this with the fact that I (typically) do not like Souls-like games. I find the typical formula to be too tediously difficult with no way to break the tedium due to the relatively closed in spaces and linear nature of their previous titles.

Let me preface this with the fact that I (typically) do not like Souls-like games. I find the typical formula to be too tediously difficult with no way to break the tedium due to the relatively closed in spaces and linear nature of their previous titles.

Elden Ring seems to be the antithesis of this philosophy. Almost from startup you have access to most of an ENORMOUS open world with only subtle hints of where you /should/ go - but even for people who prefer a clear direction because exploration is extremely well rewarded with new gear, more levels, stunning vistas, etc.

True to FromSoft form, this game IS hard - but with the freedom to leave and come back stronger it doesn't feel as tedious or insurmountable as other Souls-like. With previous titles you had to Git Gud to progress, but with Elden Ring, Gitting Gud feels like a natural consequence of simply playing the game. Even if a boss feels impossible (looking at you Maliketh), there are SO many tools at your disposal to eventually overcome it. An amazingly helpful community ready and willing to help overcome any hurdle that proves too high (or if you are looking for a specific piece of gear; patchesemporium & beyondthefog on reddit), summons, and -to my surprise and delight- a simple change of tactics/weapons all prove startling effective. Over 700 hours in across 2 platforms (steam & ps4) and I can very easily see pouring in another 700+; and not regret a single moment. I cannot recommend this game enough. Even if you don't like Souls-like, give this one a chance.

    Cons

    - Mountaintops of Giants feel weirdly balanced compared to the rest of the game

Over ten years of work led to a masterpiece, where Fromsoft used everything they learned to make their biggest and baddest game yet. It would be criminal not to call this game a masterpiece, though a flawed one.

Elden Ring encompasses everything from the previous entries, the good and bad. Way more of the good though, like way, way more. Elden Ring expands on weapon skills from DS3 through Ashes of War. Most weapons are capable of slotting myriad of skills to fit any play style imaginable.

The points of interest on the map are divided into a couple of tiers of locations, signaling their quality. Legacy dungeons are massive sprawling levels where the most work has been put in. They have shortcuts that you can unlock with some diligent exploring and feature the main fights of the game.

Then there are major locations, like Castle Morne, Castle Sol, Caria Manor and a few others. Love and care was put into these locations, but they are nowhere near as expansive and twisted as the Legacy dungeons.

And then there are the minor locations. Caves, crypts, mines, you name it, this game has it. These places vary so heavily in quality it is never sure, if you are getting a banger, like a certain crypt with a Groundhog Day style puzzle, or if you are getting a complete dud with one of the games' many copy and pasted bosses.

Boss design in this game is about as wild in quality as the minor locations. Your main fights against the Shard Bearers are fun occasions that make your blood pump. Some of the minor bosses, especially Crucible Knights for me, put you through fun and challenging fights that will leave you smiling. And then there are the duds.

I swear to god, if I see another Tree Spirit in my life I will hurl. The first dragon fight is fun and exhilarating and fulfills the knight fantasy of charging a dragon on a horse fantastically. The twentieth dragon you fight has you sigh and get it over with. Whoever designed the first Royal Revenant should be fired. And the person that decided to copy and paste him twenty times over should never work in the industry again. Topping off these duds is the DS2 mindset of doubling the amount of bosses in the room and calling it done. The fight against the three Crystalians is the lowest point of this game for me.

After getting all that off my chest, Elden Ring shines on a second playthrough and on. Aka, once you know where the things you want are, you can just run for them and ignore everything you do not want to deal with.

More than ever, Elden Ring is the Fromsoft game where you dictate the difficulty, where in the older games you were forced to go one of three directions to continue, if you feel like the place that will continue the story is too big a hassle, you can just walk a random direction, gain a couple levels, get new tools to deal with it and then triumph.

So, Elden Ring. Fromsofts biggest game yet. A flawed masterpiece that deserves all the praise it got and more. By the way I talk about it you might think I hate this game. But no. Elden Ring is my game of 2022. It has given me so much to love and so much to think about for the last year, that I personally think it will stand the test of time as one of gaming's greatest achievements.

So, years of experience in the same base of genre must bring out something really new and improved, right?

The Play style - Dark Souls 3 with more anime weapon arts. Some Enemies and Bosses require a specific way to play.
Weapons - There are over 300 weapons and 70 spells. How many do you need? How many of them are useful? How many do you test of the usefulness?
Animations, enemy and player models - every previous souls game (not bosses). And that's for real. Recycling at its finest.
    Crafting - forgettable
Story - forgettable. Very good idea, to bring to the Shakespearean cryptic story more of the same.
The chosen one going to kill or speak or interact with great ones like Miquella, Millicent, melina, miriel and rennala, renna, ranni and gowry, godwyn, godfry and morgott, mogh.
Remember Nito? Or Gwyn? Why do they make so much nonsense-people to forget about?
Then again, why should I care about the Story or Plot? The intro Scene is getting worse every Souls game, more cryptic and less care to make the plot interesting.
The open world - the Art style is more like High Fantasy. I expected to see elves and dwarves dancing around rainbows. And it didn't get better. No more Dark Fantasy than, I guess.
The open world itself is useless. I wouldn't call it empty, but it's more empty than previous titles.
It's boring to discover the same enemies in another color.
It's boring to ride around without a real destination. "But there is a destination, check the map!" Sure, but why do I need to have an open world then. Why not make smaller Areas with more detail. Even the "story areas" in this game have fewer details than the predecessor

I stop here. There are games (ubi-titles, cod, battlefield and so on) which got bashed because of the redundancy. Right so, I guess. But why not does anybody even mention it for the Souls games.

In this game there are the same negatives since demon souls: Camera sucks, Hit boxes sucks, all the same fighting styles (hit, block, dodge, cast spell) animations, graphically PS3, bad quest lines (if you miss a quest line or a NPC at the right time, your fault) and still nothing is shown or explained properly. I do not care if you are a hardcore fan, an option to turn tips on or off is not a negative thing and will nothing take away of the way you experience the game.
At least they worked on the very best part in every Soul's game: the platforming. Now there is a special jump button which make the char jump. And the horse. Super Mario at its best.

So, I had no fun playing this game. It was just too big and redundant and unimportant.
I still love playing Bloodborne somehow, even it has the same old flaws every souls game have

But If that's the future of gaming and a masterpiece, I am out.

"Will I enjoy this game if I beat the previous Souls games?"
Yes, but it will either land at the top of your FromSoft list or near the bottom.

-Elden Ring reads your inputs instead of deriving from self-contained enemy behavior.
-Elden Ring does not run well on PS4, even if you have a PS4 Pro with an SSD.
-Elden Ring has a mixed Souls OST, a good score for most IPs, but subpar Souls soundtrack.
-Elden Ring robs player agency, you will react to bosses like in Sekiro, but without a baked in parry system. The enemies do not abide by the rules the player has imposed on them, a stark difference between Bloodborne and Souls games.
-Elden Ring has the same flavor text writer that overexplains everything like in DS3. The writers for DeS and DS1 are apparently gone.

+Elden Ring has fixed most of the PvP balancing and is almost on par with DS3's*
+Elden Ring has dungeons, similar to Chalice Dungeons, but much less variety.
    +Elden Ring has jumping.
