    This year Konami has decided to renew its football franchise name from Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball PES. According to the company, this change, which will continue in the coming years, was due to a greater focus on eSports. But what impact has this change had and what's new in this eFootball PES 2020?

    Starting with the new licenses, Bayern München, Juventus and Manchester United (who replaced Liverpool FC) have partnered with the Konami game, meaning that Allianz Arena, Allianz Stadium and Old Trafford are also included. In addition, we also have the fully licensed French 2nd league, and next year we will have the fully official UEFA Euro 2020 through a free upgrade.

    About the Master League, when we start a new career we can choose as coach Johan Cruyff, Bebeto, Romário or Diego Maradona. And yes, the Master League have cutscenes (which you can perfectly pass on) where, for example, we see our coach greeting players when we are in a new club. We will also have to give press conferences and answer journalists' questions. I know this is nothing special, but it always adds a lot of content to the game. It should be noted that we can now choose the club's initial budget and adjust the frequency of the transfer market.

    Outside of the Master League, we have a new mode called Matchday. This means that we will face players in online matches during the Group matches in order to reach the Grand Finals. And in the end, we will receive rewards regardless of our performance. And one more thing, these same finals will be transmitted via livestream.

    Although Konami has not made many changes to the myClub menus, the UI has undergone some changes, such as player stats graphs. But not only. Now players who play well during the games of the week will appear as Featured players, which increases their ratings, gets more skills and earns a unique card design. Another important news in myClub is the addition of the National Team FP's, where we see special versions of players competing in the upcoming or recent national game.

    But let's get to the point that matters most in Pro Evolution Soccer: the gameplay. In a nutshell, smooth, fast and fun to play. The only things I have to point out are the pressure from the second and third players to the ball carrier, which is overkill, and the fault criterion is very inconsistent. About AI, I notice that CPU-controlled opponents now do shots outside of the area, which was very rare in previous PES. In previous titles the focus of AI was to cross the flanks.

    One of the most favorite and used modes in PES also has news. I speak of Edit Mode. We have more options and more flexibility when editing teams, players, leagues and competitions. We can import the partnership logos that will be shown in various ways, and an example of this are the press conference scenarios. Modes such as Rise to Stardom and Offline and Online Co-op are also present, as expected.

    About online itself, I had no reason to complain about the games I played, although it took me a long time to find someone with a stable connection. Graphically it remains a high quality game. The game environments aren't bad, but they could be better, especially at the beginning when the stadiums are full, but there is a lack of noise to make it more realistic and immersive. Who comments on the game in Portuguese are the usual Pedro Sousa and Luís Freitas Lobo. In this chapter, Konami hasn't evolved. Comments are still very repetitive and, unfortunately, the same goes for comments in English. All in all, it's a game with some inconsistencies and things that have long needed to be improved, but overall, I really enjoyed this eFootball PES 2020.

    There are issues and lack of content which wish would've been considered sorted. But the on-pitch gameplay more than makes up for it. PES is a game for the football purists. Simple as that. Any sort of arcadiness from the previous version is gone. Graphics overhaul is just the icing on the cake

    that is it! finally! i have been playing fifa and pes in parallel for years and did not like either enough to fall in love. but pes 2020 is the love on first sight. everything feels as it should: speed, balance between offence and defense, manual and assisted...
    two downsides are:
    1. goalkeepers they are bad, but not worst than in any previous football game; something to work on in the    that is it! finally! i have been playing fifa and pes in parallel for years and did not like either enough to fall in love. but pes 2020 is the love on first sight. everything feels as it should: speed, balance between offence and defense, manual and assisted...
    two downsides are:
    1. goalkeepers
    they are bad, but not worst than in any previous football game; something to work on in the future def;
    will the goalkeepers ever be able to catch the ball in their arms, or at least deflect it out of the pitch, instead deflecting it in dangerous area or straight on strikers' foot?! but it is the same issue as in any previous fifa or pes so ther you go...
    2. long server downtime due to the maintenance.
    all in all it is a strong 9. to put things in perspective, I would rate pes 2019 with 6.5 and fifa 19 with 7.    … Expand

    As real football as it's possibile! Breathtaking experience. Last must-have game for this generation. You can feel difference between every each player of your team. Adjusting position of your players to opposite team is great fun!

    Just the right balance between a real football simulation and an enjoyable videogame, between difficult and fun. It's very rewarding to pull off a nice play, scoring a goal feels great. I love it and can't wait to go back home and play more.

    Absolitely astonishing!! There are few bugs but as every year those will be removed by update :) Gameplay kicks out the shoes, physics, details, tones of new animation - it freaking make a click! Once u run it you are lost in football emotions for the resr of your life. PES finally became worthy to wear a crown that he lost years ago!

    Sure it might be slightly better than FIFA, but still deserves a 0. This game is *shockingly* bad. AI is reminiscent of a PS1 game, whether that's your teammates or the opposition. Win lose or draw it simply isn't fun. Do not buy.

    This was my first time buying PES and it's actually great, fast paced, makes you feel like your impacting the game. The ultimate team in this game actually rewards you and has lots of options. The graphics are great and cool new leagues and teams(Brazil and Russia). Euro update will be coming later.     Last year & this year were Konami's GOLDEN CHANCES to finally take back the mantle of Top Footy Game from FIFA!...but you fluffed your lines Konami....So very very badly.

    In fact, somehow - I feel that in many ways PES has never been further behind FIFA...And given how rubbish FIFA has been the past few years...that has GOT to be a worry for Konami, surelyi?!

    If they were smart. Their ONLY answer from here is to tear this game apart - raze it to the ground. And then throw everything in the bin...and start again. Rebuild EVERYTHING from the ground up.

    Else it seems PES will be forever living in FIFA's stinking shadow, feeding off their scraps...

    PLEASE???...We want...no, we DESERVE a game that will slap EA' back into place!

    The sprint speed is uncontrollable. After playing a few games, you will eventually know when your player is going to run outside of the field if you are sprinting. It becomes predictable how the speed management work in this game. This game needs to add multiple sprint levels.

    The dribbling control does not make sense. The defenders easily suffocate you.

    You can’t effectively customize your controller settings. Somehow, defense and offense control buttons have an interlocking relationship. You can often kick the ball and hit the opponent in front of you where the interaction seems pretty unrealistic.

    The pass/clear power does not accurately work. Alot of times where I want to clear the ball with my goalie, he doesn't put power behind the ball.

    The defenders sometimes wonder off and move around to open up for the opponent.

    The passing in some cases is just too off.

    The game feels ok but they have a lot of work to do. The updates they come up with doesn't fix any of these issues. There are many more issues with the game and I hope other people can cover them.    … Expand

    Where to begin... Let's start with the modes

    BAL: no improvements

    Myclub: no improvements, no content, paywalled players, just pure cancer

    UI: the same poor user interface as iterations going back years. This game is stuck in 2003 in terms of design and usability. This year they added a new main menu and that's it. All sub menus, squads, game plan, help menus are all the same and of course have grammar and spelling mistakes. Just a joke.

    Gameplay - offline: on the lower difficulties it can be fun to play, there are some nice touches in terms of ball physics etc. but the game really starts to show its flaws when you ramp up the difficulty. You cannot dribble past a player or execute a skill move no matter how perfect the timing. Free kicks are a certain goal for the AI unless you manually override the keeper and the referees are programmed to favour the AI.

    Gameplay - online: The worst football game I have ever played online in my life. There are no servers, relying on p2p. The game isn't responsive enough to do anything, your own teammates will bug out gifting opponent's opportunities, fouls are not awarded resulting in rugby tackling matches, finesse dribbling is useless, cancerous tactics are abused such as kick off goals, playing 4 or 5 centre backs with no midfield but a front 4 to rely on 1-2 spam (who can blame people, the game has been designed to suit this meta), extremely long pause menus where your opponent can keep you waiting for upto 2 minutes and no chance to be able to see your goal in replays as it can be skipped, as well as not being able to see specific replays post match but having to cycle through every single one like I did when I first played pes 3.

    No word on the devs on fixes, they're done with the game it seems. Poor poor entry and I have limited faith the next iteration will be any better    … Expand

    The HANDICAP makes the game a TRASH. All game modes have handicap, and the game is very manipulated. Konami has to do a better game next year

But, today I deleted it. There were many patches for this game, where none of them addressed the issues described here (i.e. too many fouls, scripted games, etc.).     PES pela primeira vez em mais de uma década me faz me sentir bem ao jogar um jogo da franquia. Nunca fui fã da série, mas atualmente é louvável a impressionante a evolução em relação ao rival de mercado que afunda cada vez mais na hipocrisia da EA Games

    The demo didn't tell the whole story, this is quite a big update for a game that usually is about incremental change. The first difference you notice is the scaling back of the pressing, now you must use it much more intelligently otherwise you will give away fouls. The passing has been given more variation and the ball has more weight to it with more spin.     Free kicks are easier to score than penalties.

    Finally I bought the game because of the demo but the final release is a totally different game. Konamis response was that they changed the demo because of customer demands. That's just wrong. A demo is a demonstration of how the final product will be so we can decide if we like it or not and buy it.

    If you wanted to beta test release a beta version months back and ask for feedback and then release a demo that represents the final release.

    Scripting, manipulation, momentum swing absolutely ruins the purpose of this being called a video game. At times your inputs are ignored and you have no control of what happens on the pitch. Such a shame as the game has so much potential but the greed is overpowering. Lack of content and any effort from the devs to actually deliver an enjoyable game.

    I like the game very much.

    But I don't understand why didn't improve the UI until now. We got a new home screen. That's all. It's not enough. How many year need to you can do it? Unbelievable. This is maybe the "only thing" what you be improve. This is a huge mistake again, because the game is almost perfect witch some edits.     After more and more days of playing this horrendous excuse for a pes game i think it's time I wrote you a perspective from a player who had played your franchise since the beginning.

    I know you dont give a **** that's been made very clear by now but here it goes anyways. Pes was once the diamond of sports games and was made by a team who loves what they did, aspired to be the best they could be and always wished for customers to be happy and content with the game you created.

    The current team is not only making a mockery of this classic franchise but they are doing it with zero love, care or energy. 5 months now into yet another iteration of pes and still to this day the game is littered with bugs from players stopping mid animation, goalkeepers refusing to ever save a tapped ground shot, free kicks made so easy that stevie wonder is a specialist, none existent defensive system that exists of running into a player to tackle being the only viable option, world class players feeling no different to league 2 nobody's, defenders catching players 20 yards in front of them due to catch up mechanics still present, skills absolutely unusable and defunct due to superb slow animations and players simply running into you as mentioned, through balls that float like balloons and and always land on defenders head ( zero difference very animation). I could go on but paragraphs getting a bit long.

    A menu system designed to be as unintuitive as possible. Having to go back menu upon menu simply to change controls, loading of every single screen in game, bland menu and color design that a first year design student could improve upon. Every single aspect of pes 20 (now called efootball which is funny) is poor. Onto the name of efootball as you chose so hilariously. How in 2020 can you possibly market your game as an esport yet have servers that can't even offer a stable game maybe 2 in 10. Its almost as if your calling it e football as a joke. I can't possibly think of any other reason unless the guy behind the decision of game title is really that silly.

    Now onto content. The content on the game is so lacking it makes the ps2 versions look like massive rpgs. Literally nothing on myclub apart from a couple tournaments per week and new players to milk cash from people. The amount of plain laziness behind the online aspect of pes is enough to win an award its almost comical to think a company such as Konami hires a team of such incompetence.

    99 percent of the playerbase literally only play 2 way, hold speed burst to tackle, tap x to reach box then tap shoot. There is no other way to play if wanting to be effective because the game is simply to broken with bugs to Warrant playing actually football hence why 99 percent of players play in the same way.

    You clearly have no love for the actuslly disc version that's blatantly obvious when pes lite is released so quickly. You care about cash on myclub a mode which even though u want the cash you wish to put zero passion into. Your an embarressment to the franchise, customers, the gaming industry and every game designer out there.

    I guarentee on behalf of every single player that your next release will be not only refunded by every single player but you as a company will be facing so many lawsuits if the game is again in an unfit state that you won't want to release another one.

    And please do not think I'm just an angry redditor with no experience. I am a long time customer as stated, a passionate gamer and a very very clever man.

    I don't have PES20, just giving it a 10 because I bought Fifa 20 and it's the same game from the last two versions. EA seriously deserves to lose all the customers they have. They should apologize for that.

    Podriamos decir que podemos pasar de jugar myclub, pero esto no nos aportaria una solucion, ya que los sistemas offline estaran igual de rotos, convirtiendo al titulo, en un titulo roto y repetitivo, el año que viene pasara lo mismo, una beta que sera muy buena ya que no dispone de micropagos, un juego que al comprarlo te situa en modo de novato y te facitita que ganes para que te enganches y volvera a romperse en el momento que no efectues micropagos, mala compra,tomadura de pelo,situaciones de impotencia por que es imposible avanzar en el juego si no ejerces micropagos, en defitiva un juego que no esta programado para que el usuario disfrute y pase con el buenos momentos, es un titulo que esta programado desde el dia 1 para sacarnos todo el dinero que pueda y que sin dudarlo se olvidara del deporte que representa, de los valores que son indicativos de un juego justo, que gane el mejor, un juego que olvida todo eso para anteponer sus scripts,handicaps y tragaperras a la diversion del usuario, la sensacion es que compras una demo de un buen juego y tienes que ir renovando el juego a base de efectuar micropagos compra nada recomendada.    … Expand

    Anyway, as if these stupid mistakes were not enough, artificial intelligence always seems to have control of us, when it wants to win a game, it will win, no matter if your team is superior or you know how to play well, and always when you miss something that is to say, a goal comes from the opponent, no matter how, they always score after any miserable mistake.
    When you are losing, any move created or any kick insists on hitting the post or miraculously going out, it may even hit the two posts that it will not enter, in addition to that your players never rebound, they are always displaced or follow the ball and don't kick!
    Certainly the worst of the franchise I played, it was the last chance I gave Konami, it looks like a worse PES2019.    … Expand

Today I managed to sign Lionel Messi for 20M and and Lingard too. This is a far cry from the "realistic transfers" we were promised.

    Players will never be taken out on loan, you can build super teams far to quickly, and the pre season tournaments are just a joke as Rotherham will never play in the ICC Champions Cup, it's just utterly ridiculous and gimmicky that this is the only major license they have to flaunt.

Graphics are ok, not FIFA, but still pretty decent. Gameplay is very good. Master League is where is this game excels. But not wanting to drag this review on anymore, it ain’t FIFA but while I wait for that game this will do for the time being. A very good playable football game.     Good: Superb game play. Feels right, feels like real football.
    Bad: MyClub needs to be reworked entirely. New things like daily objects, season pass, TRANSFER MARKET, best rewards, etc.
    Ugly: I don't like the idea to defend by just pressing A. Defense needs to be more manual, more interactive. It was a good mechanic 8 years ago, now we need more.

    Player mobility = retirement home. Firstly, they fixed the problem with player speed. When your player is clearly quicker you can out run the odd player. Unlike 2019, even the slowest player could catch the quickest. As for reactions, terrible. Feels like your player is reacting while surrounded by molasses. So slow. The game hasn't got the enjoyment factor that all previous versions had all the way back to superstar. Feels like they have tried to make a game that's as terrible as FIFA!! Not quite FIFA bad but even saying they are comparable!!!!

    The greatest addition this year are the scripted games. If your team is lower rated than the opponent's one, then the game will do everything for you to lose. Your player won't run, will have lag in their actions and so on... this shot they took from fifa...

    Secondly, gameplay wise, refereeing is probably the worst in any sports game ever made - it feels that after couple of murders on the pitch referee blows the whistle randomly just to remind you he exists. Usually this happens right after a clear tackle you've made. And lots of times you're going to concede a goal from this made-up free kick. Also don't get me started about offsides...

    Is it worth playing? With friends occasionally just for fun? Sure. But if you're looking for a real football simulator, you'll have to keep waiting, cause you won't find it here.    … Expand

I'm a 18xx rating player, and believe me, if you are a higher rank player, or your team is stronger, Konami god will balance you down so that weaker players can win (so they will be happy and buy coins,bravo).You are not much than a selling tool to Konami god and will feel like a dumb and only Konami god will decide when they want you to win.

    - Disastrous online match: defenders are like retarded drunkers, your hard-earned Viera or Kante will ignore the ball even if it drifted very slowly before them. No need to mention crazy swiching mechanism. What is more funny is you will feel like you are playing shooting game, rather than football, as you will end up "firing" the ball from CB to CF (so does the opponent) , as midfielders will not react fast enough to the ball (well, career ending for De Bruyne, Modric, Kroos .etc). Whoever more lucky during the firing game will win (e.g the ball bounces off some CB and go straight to your, or opponent's,s feet.)
    Don't understand why this issue has already been complained since PES19 and it seemed Konami do not care about their customers.

    A decent game if you are to play offline only. For me, the suffering it caused in online mode deserve my rating of 1.

    Here are some advice if you decide to play the game:
    -Play offline only
    - If you really want to play online:
    1/ Don't expect skills will get you wins all the time: although skills can help you to gain higher rank, they cannot help you overcome Konami god. If they decide that you will lose the game, you lose, full stop.
    2/ Buy some extra controllers: you may need some reserve controllers, in case you get too pissed off and...(you know what I mean)
    3/ Don't let Konami coax you into buying coins: it will not worth it, coz if your team is stronger, Konami will balance you down. So, what's the point of building a strong team?

    P/S: it pains to say these as I am a fan from Winning Eleven to now. Why Konami, why can't you let us enjoy the game, especially online mode? If you cannot ensure your product quality for online mode, then why you still release it?    … Expand

The lag you get online in this game makes it unplayable. I gave very detailed review each year about the PES about each thing that's positive and that's negative. I don't wast my time anymore. I saw also reviews and marks from other users and I don't understand them. The review of Silas - he gave a 5 is what I feel also and he gave more details.

    There are so many negative things that make this game the worst PES I ever played and I play since PES 5. I'll only write the 3 biggest flaws:

    1. We are in 2019 and they still don't have proper servers, and there is an insane amount of input lag, many times you can't enjoy the game anymore as you press a button now and the action comes tomorrow.

    2. The game is not responsive and that comes extra to the input lag, you can feel it even when playing offline- which means is in the games code and not from connection, sometimes you try to trap the ball, shoot or pass and the player takes 1-2 extra touches before performing your action. There are some frames in between on which you have no control.

    3. The game is too much AI assisted, it is not skill based anymore. it happens many time that the game does what it wants and not what you press. In all the PES versions until PES 2017 included if you were way better than opponent you could win with a 1 star team against a 5 star team, hard but you could. Now you can't beat with a 3 star team a 5 star team no matter how weak is the opponent as his players position alone, defend alone, intercept alone, even strikers do great runs. And AI plays fantastic with players above 85-86 rating.    … Expand

    As a long time PES player I can't help but feel a tad disappointed with this year's update especially after the promising demo. The game feels, at times, a pleasure to play, when a well worked goal is finished off you cant help but smile at how superb it all came together with some delectable animations. However I'm going to concentrate on the many negatives.

    The players ignoring the ball, letting it go past them while they just stand there oblivious.

    The passing, shooting, everything seems overly assisted, you pass or shoot at times and it gives a power, and often direction, that you didn't give it, like the A.I overrides you and just does what it wants while you sit there pressing buttons like a monkey wondering what real input you're having.

    The input lag is unforgivable, it affects everything, from dribbling to getting in a shot, and what's worse is it actually feels like it's a deliberate code rather a game engine issue or any fault with your connection or reactions.

    The scripted momentum is still there.

    They have added literally nothing to MyClub apart from a few new sound effects and the way some menus appear.

    Close control feels worse than PES 2019 despite Iniesta's best efforts.

    Konami think a "remaster of Master League" is putting in a few manager cut scenes that after five minutes you want to skip. Remaster it is not, in fact it's a downright lie.

    A lot of crap from earlier games still being here, the lone players in co-op, the nonsense "We Believe etc." banners adorning every stadium, having the same button control skip and pause, the replays every time the ball goes out of play, the poor audio etc. etc. etc.

    Knowing Konami and knowing they probably wont patch any of these issues.

    Overall when I'm playing this game I'm often thinking three things "PES 2019 did it better", "So scripted", and "This isn't worth £40".    … Expand

    I truly love PES, since the beginning when others were playing EA I was stubborn to play PES. I don’t enjoy rating this bad a game that I do love, but the SCRIPTS are ruining everything. I will not play EA but most sure will not buy anything new from Konami since they are using scripts, ruining all the experience and expectations...

    Graphics is good. MyClub mod need better AI in defense. Players don't want to take ball. The players collide with each other. The ball is bounced from the player directly to the opponent in the legs. Passes are often wrong. MyClub need more competitions.

    the you also have minor issues like ugly UI ,pretty poor music(my opinion) and sometimes sloppy defense.Ofcourse you got some good sides like myclub ,master league.But they don't make up for the awful issues that this game has an nobody talks about.    … Expand

    This game is biggest scripted piece of **** a game where Messi wins header over Maldini, where Pique is faster than Mbappe... where you get **** on by 20% win ratio and score 6 goals to 80% win ratio.
    Where D. Beckham can't do long ball... I don't know man... for a person who plays pes for a long time it is just frustrating

    Let's start with the best part, the gameplay is the best since the start of the series, but... The demo build was even better but got adjusted towards the final build which is a shame. It's still good, but was nearly perfect.

    Master League had an overhaul, sadly its mostly cosmetic and doesn't impact the mode or your career. Regens are still there so you will get a 16 year old Messi when he retires. But it has more realistic transfer values now, that's a big plus.

    Myclub didn't get an update at all, which was needed. The new mode called Matchday is fun but overall the modes need an update or even a complete overhaul.

    They changed the homescreen and it was needed, but now it doesn't feel consistent looking at all the other menus and ingame screens. Commentary still feels dated and comical, stadium atmosphere lacks severely and the edit mode could use more options like ad boards, custom chants etc to give a better experience.

    Small things like the weekly maintenance of an hour or longer, summer transfers not ready at release and still not fully correct and the scripting in Konami's FUT alternative Myclub makes the whole game a bit underwhelming.

    Licences can be fixed on PS4 and PC so that won't be a negative, they got back the second divisions from Italy and Spain, also great for a lot of players.

    Still the best PES ever, but it could and should have been even better and felt much better in the demo. Konami needs to step up for the following generation of consoles. There is just not enough done in a full year of development in my opinion.

    If I couldn't compare it to the demo and earlier games it might get a 7, but for me it's a 6 out of 10.    … Expand

    eFootball PES 2020 keeps all the merits of the series but lacks any significant breakthroughs. Still, it’s a good sports sim, especially in multiplayer.

    The 2020 edition is the most realistic virtual football I have ever encountered. After learning the gameplay’s basics you get a lot of fun and each passing hour makes it even better. Shame that after finishing the career, checking out the multiplayer and playing a few exhibition matches there is nothing left to do here. [12/2019, p.64]
