Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is a great entry point for those looking to get into the long-running series, and one that’s more accessible than ever thanks to an aesthetic that makes it more suitable for younger players. Throw in new features like the character switching mechanic and you have a game that’s a blast to play in small doses when alone, but really shines when played with others. Ultimately though, repetition is still an issue, as the gameplay never really evolves as you move through the lengthy campaign.

Ultimately, World Brothers is a good introduction for newcomers that’ll appeal to long-time fans too. It’s not especially deep and solo play can feel slightly repetitive in longer stints, but if you gather a few friends, you’ll have a lot of fun with this colourful spinoff.

Although the effort to make the series fresh and accessible is admirable, it’s backfired. Fans will be disappointed, newbies will wonder what all the fuss is about. [Issue#3, p.144]

There is one particular level with waterfalls and a rainbow bridge where an enemy clips in a wall and is stuck inside it. Normally you can't finish missions until you kill everything so if an enemy gets stuck you'll likely won't be able to kill it. Forcing you to restart the entire mission over or spending loads of time trying to kill it. This unfortunately happens often in this level
    2. One enemy called saurous lags the game exponentially when it uses its fire breathing to the point the game doesn't register inputs making you stand still as you life drains in 3 seconds. Thankfully it doesn't appear in to many missions
    3. RNG is the worst I've ever seen in any game. Say you want a rocket launcher, you'll need to find the Character that holds it in a mission and rescue them. Doesn't sound bad right? Unfortunately, no. First you have to hope to RNG that the character spawns in a level and hope to rng that, if you do rescue them, they have a weapon. If they don't good luck finding them again. Then be disappointed they don't have it once more. Also the one level that all characters are guaranteed to spawn at some point is the one level dedicated to saurous

A cheerful, simplistic, awkward, colourful children's game. Fans of the series should be warned: this is more Lego than EDF.
