First and foremost, the gameplay was fantastic. The atmosphere was well done, the environment felt good, the day / night cycle added a nice touch, the leveling system was genius, the weapons were interesting and varied... I could go on, but you get the idea. Gameplay, great. The drop kick alone was about the most fun I've ever had in a three second span in a game. A few minor and personal gripes were the lack of gun variety (and a useless shotgun), the absurd weapon scaling (my machete does twenty times the damage of a lead pipe for example), and the maps felt a bit small for my tastes. But that didn't deter me from really enjoying the hell out of this side of the game.

If I were rating the story alone this game would be in the red. I'm a story drive gamer, so this was important for me. The first three-fourths of the game were fine if bland, but about that three-fourths mark I ran into one of the most idiotic scenes I've encountered in a game. You have to be careful when using the damsel in distress dynamic, and this game botched it hard. They set up no real relationship between you and the woman in question beyond a few passing sentences so I didn't feel attached to her. She was also supposed to be a bad-ass so making her the damsel felt like a betrayal of her character. Though groaning, I dealt with this. It really died with the five minute over-the-top sappy diatribe that was so bad I found myself scowling on my couch. It was ridiculously dramatic. You were transported to a Dishonored style Limbo (apparently this is what turning into a zombie is like) and you chased her ghost while she was pelting you with the most droning self-sacrifice speech you've ever heard. This scene totally killed any investment I had in the story which really depletes my enjoyment of a game, but I persevered because of drop-kicking zombies.

A bonus crime this game committed was the climax. I really enjoyed the climbing part of it and the combat even if I had to listen to Mr. Generic Villain 101 monologuing at me. Crane's motivation in the game at this point was all about revenge which made me dislike him as a character. Seriously, a woman you barely knew died dramatically, but so did a doctor I'd talked to just as much and I wasn't harping about him. And aren't there, like, a thousand other innocent people to save? ...Just dumb writing... Anyway, I reach the putz expecting some lame boss fight like the last two but instead, they end the game with the only quick-time even in the entire game. Yup, quick time event. That's they best they could do with their villain.

    There. I've ranted.

I wouldn't recommend this game for what it's being advertised as. It's not much of a Survival game at all. Not much of an open world experience. Not much of a story. It is however a good combination of tried and true game mechanics in a zombie-afflicted fictional middle eastern city.

I haven't tried Co-op, but considering it's nothing at all what's being advertised (as expected), there

It is however a good combination of tried and true.. oh yeah, I already said that. So anyways, if you liked playing every single Assassin's Creed, you'll probably like this game too. Especially if Zombies are also awesome in your book.

If not, don't expect this game to give you any thrills outside of what I already mentioned. Not to say that I can't have fun with it, I just can't recommend it.

It even gets worse when you progress further into the game: similar to Shadow of Mordor the upgrade points you can invest after leveling up in various "masteries" make you quite strong pretty fast so that you quickly reach the point where the dangers (especially at night) are pretty easy for you to overcome. It is better than Dead Island for sure and the parcours is pretty okay (even though it feels clumsy compared to Mirrors Edge f.e.). The fighting feels inaccurate you often find yourself in positions where you wish there were two attack modes where you could possibly decide in which direction your character is swinging his weapons. Sometimes it works fine but often you strike and don't hit anything because of the weapon swing being totally wrong in that moment.

Overall Dying Light is a pretty mediocre game. It is some sort of child between Far Cry and Dead Island and even though the first hours are quite fun the good feeling quickly disappears.

This game is a decent fps zombie game, too bad that the idea is overused and they tried to copy dead island idea, they failed miserably, but at least this game is interesting and somewhat fun to play.

A game with farly week game play and even weaker controls. Was exited to play it but i was sadly disappointed. But to be fair some elements are real good like the multiplayer challenges that comes up. But the story is so bad that it ruins the game.

Basically dead island with free running. Multiplayer is fun and its fun invading other players game as a zombie. Single player is boring after a few hours. If your a fan of dead island this is a must buy. If your not I would recommend a rental or buying Resident evil.

Trite doesn't begin to cover it. If you are unable to figure out all of the plot twists and even better plot twists, shame on you.

What I would have liked to see though, is a scaling of difficulties when playing alone or with teams. 3 friends and myself rip through hoards of zombies like they are nothing. All alone, I cannot pick a simple lock without getting grabbed 3 or 4 times.

With all that out of the way, I recommend buying this game. For people who didn't like the linearity of mirrors edge, this is an open world parkour environment done to perfection. The gameplay is what sells this game. It is also a sandbox game offering you most likely 60-100 hours of gameplay with side quests, some of which are worth doing, and a main quest line that has you thinking you are spiderman without a suite.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A good game at it's core but suffers from a few very serious mistakes. The voice acting is poor and the faces are repeated too often. The EPIC LAST LEVEL BOSS FIGHT is a dungeon where you run from point A to point B and then end it with a 7 button quick time even. Straight garbage. Then there's the DLC. You can't even call it DLC, it's two sidequests made to last hours. Buy the game, skip the DLC, stop playing once you've finished the story. Maybe a good rental but I regret buying the digital copy considering the DLC issue. This is a Gamefly game, not a game you own. Expand

I dropped 59 on this garbage knowing it would suck. OK, so if you like to jump around like freakin spiderman and crack zombies in the dome with pieces of concrete

I dropped 59 on this garbage knowing it would suck. OK, so if you like to jump around like freakin spiderman and crack zombies in the dome with pieces of concrete on a pole, get this game and enjoy. For me, what makes zombie type games fun is the desperation, the lack of ammo and the struggle to survive with minimal supplies. This game has not sense of urgency, no semblance of a plot and no characters that are remotely interesting. You basically jump around rooftops, but not it a cool, graceful way like Assassins Creed or Batman, but just silly, cheesy motions that make you feel invincible. And I guess that's my problem, I don't think you should be a superhero in a zombie apocalypse. One final point here - the voice acting. Wow. It's worse - yes, worse, than Dead Island. Terrible sounding middle eastern stereotypes - and I'm just gonna say it and probably catch heat - I wish they sounded "American." That's my preference. If you found the accents in Dead Island annoying, you will want to mute your TV for Dying Light. What this game is NOT (and yes, I know it doesn't pretend to be) but it's NOT similar to , say The Last of Us, Resident Evil or even Dead Rising. So, say Left 4 Dead had a baby with Call of Duty, that would be Dying Light - with worse voice acting and lamer weapons. It's cheesy, did I mention the voice acting is terrible - and you're basically a superhero who only dies when you run into a huge crowd.
I give it a 6 because it's still worth $27 for trade in....

In fact the most fun I had with the game was only ever had when I was playing online Cooperatively. There's a lot of good in Dying Light. The first thing you'll notice is the music, which has a neat 80s synth aesthetic. The city is quite large and detailed, rendered in impressive graphics. And the mechanics go deep, as you'll know if you take a peek at the various skill trees available.

However, this game is such a grind before you get a proper foothold in the world that you may well get tired of the game before you reach that point. Earning experience is painstakingly slow, divided as it is across three initial categories before a fourth class opens up. I highly recommend finding tutorials to learn the nuaces of gameplay (which are manyfold) to maximize experience earning potential early on. This will save a lot of frustration. I appreciate that feeling underpowered for a large portion of the game makes the world feel deadly dangerous, but it's a bit overboard here.

But the final nail in the coffin is how gratingly annoying and badly written every single NPC is in this game. From cliched villains to cliched allies, to whiny fetch-quest givers, to unfunny and tedious blabbermouths, it's simply a chore to speak to anyone. The immersion of the game is killed three words into any conversation.

A more minor criticism is how samey the city feels. It's very easy to get lost because differentiating buildings or even cardinal directions is nearly impossible without the map.

This game requires a ton of patience to enjoy

You may notice the whole army of zombies have the same exact skin. And parkour may be... less realistic at times. The graphics are as great as they could be, and the crafting system is great apart from meaningless waiting time to craft things, where you just stare at the screen pushing a button while everything else stops.
Dying light is a solid zombie game. But that doesnt make it the best way of wasting time, the parkour system gets boring upon time and everyone knows how frustrating zombie combat be over time.Nights are challenging.Making ''survival'' harder but you are adviced to skip them at the start of the game by sleeping.

Good incipit, but the story gets boring very fast. Within the first 30 minutes of gameplay you realise that the story starts to smack of “been there, done that”.
There are a bunch of very interesting cues: the safe areas, the crafting system, and the overall idea of an open world zombie setting. Despite that the plot gets shabby pretty soon, leaving a bad taste of wasted opportunity.
