Dying Light is a fantastic way to start off game releases in 2015. I always found myself loving to run and navigate the rooftops and find crates with cartable items in them and so on. Being a fan of parkouresq gameplay and zombies this game was right up my ally for sure. Dying Light is easily one of the most gorgeous game I have ever seen.

The day / night cycle changes the game completely by making it easy and fun to traverse in the day time but absolutely terrifying at night. The night is when the real nightmare comes out. There are more terrifying and fast infected that hunt and listen to your every move. Making much sound at night signs your death sentence which adds to the game so much.

I was more than impressed with everything in this game, yet I found myself frustrated and upset with how it ended. Rather than ending with all the skills and experiences you've learned the last encounter with the main antagonist ends with a slew of quick time events that haven't even been exploited in the game until this very ending. I wanted the epic way to fight with Rais to be interesting and not just with a couple of button presses.

Finally, even though i was disappointed with the final "boss battle" it left us with a good ending and left it open to a possible sequel. I would love a sequel to this game and see Techland experiment more and give the main character more relatability and personality. I absolutely adore this game and it makes me excited for what 2015 has to come in Video Games.

Beautiful graphics, spot on controls, a lot very fun quests and side-quests. This game suprised me in a lot of good ways. Much better than Dead Island and nearly as good as Far Cry 4. Best Techland Game to date. If you love zombies and open-world games, you need to play this!

Without looking at my feet or checking in any way I knew instantly that I had only managed to get one foot onto the box because my body and head swayed in a way that instantly made sense to my brain, my characters arms went out for balance AND kept moving in a very realistic effort to maintain that balance, I looked down for conformation and did exclaim a "Ha!" when I saw that I was right but I had KNOWN it.
Realistic. Elegant. Special. And so I set off with that smile still firmly in place.
You will hear plenty about how there is "nothing new" in this game. What I don't hear enough of In reviews of this game is how the brilliant graphics, tremendous sound effects, terrific voice acting, fantastic animations/ mo-cap and amazing combat and movement all combine to make an experience that is a great big step ahead of any open world game so far. 1st or 3rd person zombie or otherwise.
Yes it might benefit from a more radical story or other ancillary improvements but the experience of this game, of the 90% of the time that you'll spend inside Harran is very, very impressive showing indeed. A great game. (And super fun!) congratulations Techland!

It's going to take me a while to finish this game because I can't stop going after air drops whenever they fall, but I can give a first impressions run down.

Story: What little I've played is generic and generally not all that believable, but it's still fun. So if you're into tight, realistic stories then you probably don't like many of the games out there, and you won't like this one.

What little I've played is generic and generally not all that believable, but it's still fun. So if you're into tight, realistic stories then you probably don't like many of the games out there, and you won't like this one. That said, this story is functional so far. Voice acting does not distract from the narrative and at times is not bad at all.

    Graphics
Amazing. Colorful without looking cartoonish. Excellent animation for the free running, whose mechanics work just fine. Some of the weapon animations are weak in my opinion, but such things can be forgiven by most. I thought baseball bats would be a little more satisfying. Good detail.

    Gameplay
Mostly tight. glitches and some faltering here and there, but over all the game works. That's more than can be said for a lot of other games. Haven't had the luxury of coop yet, so I can't comment there. Loot system, upgrade system, skill tree, level up system all seem to have been tested and balanced very well. Nothing seems wasted, nothing seems superfluous. Side missions are acceptable. Nothing super memorable, but they seem to generally add something to the story, however minimally. Experience and rewards are given at a steady pace.

Over all, Techland did a good job. It's not epic. It doesn't revolutionize anything, but it's a solid, fun experience for me so far. Monotony doesn't shake a grinder such as myself as easily as some, even so, the monotony in this game is not as painful as other games I've played. If you want a good zombie game with fun running mechanics and an open world, go ahead and get it.

The open world is quite stunning to behold, from the atmospheric effects to the lighting and textures - everything looks lovely. Then at night time when the whole world changes it still looks great, the lighting effects really come into play here. On the gameplay front, it is not half bad - It really is a different game during the day and at night, the day time zombies are slow moving dimwitted things but at night, it is genuinely terrifying as you hear noises everywhere but are in complete pitch black darkness. More than once I found myself genuinely a bit scared and my heart racing as I ran back to the safety of a blue light.... The story and quests are OKAY, they're nothing extraordinary but it is nothing to shake your head at.

The only negatives are that the crafting and economy is a little frustrating at the beginning, particularly with weapons only being able to be repaired a limited number of times. The parkour can be controller smashingly frustrating at times - when you run and jump for a ledge only to find yourself smashing into a wall. The real gripe I have is the key layout and why on earth this cannot be changed for jumping and climbing... seriously annoying.

All in all probably the highest praise I could give Dying Light is to say that it reminds me a little bit of Far Cry 4. Give it a go if you like survival horror mixed with crafting and open worlds.

The combat system is interesting because it's not easy to hit your enemies (humans/special zombies).
However the fact that it takes too many strokes to kill one is insane.
Day-Night cycle is pretty awesome as you will never want to be caught outside at night because you will face some of the bad-ass super quick/strong zombies. One of the negative thing about this game is the re spawn system which will make you appear very far from where you died last time.
As an overall it is a great game which is worth playing, specially during this season that there is no much good games out there available.

    Gameplay
I am sure many of you are worried do to the fact that Techland made the game. believe me I was to, but had a few games I didn't play anymore so I traded them in for the game. I was NOT disappointed. The game is a blast to play. I am 20+ hours in (lvl12 in parkour tree, lvl19 in combat, and lvl14 in survival) and I am still not bored. The combat and parkour are fluid and responsive. At first the game may feel off do to controls and the parkour feeling limited. This will pass. As you gain levels in the parkour tree you really feel fluid. It makes sense to because the main character does not have a parkour background. The controls come with time. The combat is a lot of fun and at first basic. If you are expecting to be able to take down hordes of zombies right of the bat you are going to be disappointed. At the beginning as little as 4 zombies can over whelm you if you aren't careful. Later however you can slay zombies like its second nature. All the skills in the level trees are relevant in some way. which is rare in a game that has 3 different trees. Gathering supplies is also a lot of fun and is made simple with a senses skill. you start with skill and all you do is hold down X (on PS4) and a wave will shoot out in all directions and mark items in a small area for you. The multiplayer works well. I did notice a bit of lag at times but this could be do to my friend being in a snow storm at the time.

    Graphics
The graphics (at least on PS4) look great. There are a few small issues that arise occasionally. For example when using the grapple hook it will occasionally fly left or right of intended destination, however this is not a problem because you will still go to your proper destination. The frame rate has never dropped on me, which says a lot compared to techlands older games.

    Quests and Story
The game starts pretty slow at first and makes you feel like the bad guy a few times, however a few hours in it gets a lot better. Side quests are plentiful. most are more than fetch quests and a lot of them give great rewards.

All and all the game is solid. Its a blast to play with friends and even alone. If you love zombie games then this game is a must.

Love the music, love the open world and level of detail. Night is scary enough but when a player invades your game as a hunter it gives a whole new meaning to the game... My heart was pumping the first time this happened, kind of like the first time I was invaded by an enemy player in Dark Souls.

It's not a perfect game.. Every person you meet for the first time decides to confess all their life secrets to you which is odd. Melee combat against zombies can get a bit tiresome.

But I have to say, if I've been playing the game all weekend.. Its good enough for me.

Have you ever wanted to play in a zombie infested wonderland? No? I have. Techland gave me exactly what I’ve always wanted in an open-world zombie game: streets filled to the brim with zombies, loot everywhere you turn, terrifying zombies that only come out at night, a fun upgrade system, and an enjoyable story that explains why the zombies are where they are.

Dying Light’s story is a fairly simple one. You play as Global Relief Effort (GRE) undercover operative Kyle Crane, who’s on a mission to recover some important data somewhere in the fictional city of Harran, which happens to be overrun by zombies. This of course doesn’t give you a whole lot of reason to care about what’s going on, as you don’t know what the “important data” actually is. However, throughout the first few missions of the story, due to the GRE acting stupid over the radio and Crane figuring out that there are still humans in Harran that need help, he decides to take matters into his own hands and help the people instead. Players will see the gradual change in Crane’s heart as the story progresses, making them actually care what happens to many of the characters surrounding him.

It also doesn’t hurt that Techland’s writing has vastly improved since their previous games in the Dead Island franchise. While I did enjoy those games for their zombie-killing fun, the writing always felt bland and just there to move things along. Kyle Crane’s personality was shown beautifully through the writing (and Roger Craig Smith’s excellent voice acting). Players get to see him struggle with the reality of what’s going on in Harran, mourn the loss of new friends, grow to hate one of the local faction leaders, all while still keeping his sense of humor in tense situations.

What really surprised me about the storytelling in Dying Light was not its main story though, it was the level of detail in some of the side quests. Of course, just like many other games, Dying Light has its fair share of vague fetch quests that are only there for the sake of keeping players busy. But if you can look past those, there are some truly amazing and sometimes even hilarious side quests available.

Dying Light also showed a huge leap forward in Techland’s graphics. Gone are the days of blurry, poorly textured environments. It looked beautiful throughout the entire game. Their experience shows even more if you have played Dead Island when you realize that there is literally no slowdown. Dying Light constantly throws hordes of 20+ zombies at you, requiring you to either swing your weapon like Billy Butler swings his bat (at every pitch, it doesn’t matter if it’s a strike or not), or run like a mad man to get away.

My one complaint is that the farther I got into the game, I experienced more texture popping. It was weird because the first 30 hours I played Dying Light, I never had an issue. But as I got into hours 50-60, each time a level would load there would be some pretty bad texture popping for about five seconds.

But who cares about a good story, funny side quests, and pretty graphics!? How was the gameplay? AMIRIGHT!? Good news! Dying Light’s gameplay is incredibly fun! I really mean that too. All joking aside, Techland’s decision to add parkour into the game was a fantastic idea. Dying Light sets itself apart from every other zombie game by giving players the ability to sprint, vault, jump, swing, roll, etc. to their heart’s desire. This made traversing the huge city of Harran extremely fun, and made me not even care that there wasn’t a fast travel option.

Aside from the parkour element being fun, Dying Light’s combat was also very satisfying. While its a simple system (collect melee weapons + swing melee weapons = kill zombies), I never got bored. The slow motion kill cam and the deep upgrade system made every bout with my undead enemies very enjoyable. Dying Light was also one of the few zombie games that come to mind where staying as quiet as possible is extremely key to staying alive. So what if you have a kickass police rifle? The second you fire it into a crowd of zombies, you will have alerted the strongest and fastest zombies in the area to swarm to your position. This made the “zombie experience” feel as real as I’ve always imagined it would be.

The day and night cycle is another cool feature in Dying Light. Traversing Harran during the day is a cakewalk compared to doing it at night. Zombies become much more aggressive and special “super zombies” called Volatiles only come out at night. Volatiles can take an extraordinary amount of damage, even from the highest level of weapons, and they are able to deal out damage really fast, so it’s better to just never be seen by them or never let them catch you.

Dying Light is the zombie game I’ve been waiting for.

The game also features co-op and an asymmetrical multiplayer mode where one player becomes a special infected that can lay waste your entire squad in seconds.

I could go on for hours talking about how good this game is but I'll just leave it at this...

It's a great zombie game with an interesting story, great gameplay and some fantastic atmosphere.

The game looks very good and so far has very little frame rate drops and the sounds and voices are superb. This is a long game with estimated 20- to 40 hours to finish it. And the game play is fun. The be the zombie mode is pretty fun and the zombie is really agile and overpowered unless players shine a UV light on you the you are basically dead so surprise is your friend.

The story so far is good but predictable and that is OK as some things are expected to happen when the zombie apocalypse strikes. Co-op is fun and the game remains a threat to you if you are not careful but it does take some of the tension off the fighting.

In all a good game with plenty to do and see. I give the game an 8 its a must buy for fans of zombie games but like I said in the beginning it does suffer some significant technical hiccups that hold it back from being scored higher. Definitely worth playing.

The graphics is simply stunning as you run and jump to avoid the zombies and to capture that sunrise while you run is simply breathtaking. As the sun sets you are once again blown away by the amazing and breathtaking sun set. But as the sun goes down and the day disappears you know you’re in for a very intense and terrifying night. Staying off the road and making sure not to be visible to zombies is extremely terrifying and intense as you run to safety in order to sleep the night away.

The controls take some time to get used to but once you are used to the controls they are easy to adapt to. The dialogue is terrible but it’s soon forgotten by the intense gameplay and the stunning visuals that form the all amazing dying light. For everyone who enjoys a survival horror game I highly recommend it this game is simply amazing and draws you right into the city of Harran.

The gameplay is captivating but I have found myself getting a bit bored after playing a few hours so a few breaks in between gameplay is not a bad decision but still this remains an excellent game and one I will remember and play for a long time to come

I don't understand the hate for this game. It may not look as good as the FarCry series, but at least DL's open world is not littered with boring empty lands. Every place you run or climb doesn't feel repetitive, despite its similarly themed design (rusty shacks, zinc tops, etc.).

The quests are pretty standard for a game in this genre (run, fetch, deliver) and some of the side quests

The quests are pretty standard for a game in this genre (run, fetch, deliver) and some of the side quests are annoying (to save Nick Pesto you have to follow him to get his lady magazine and his skull ring? LOL) but that's where it doesn't get repetitive.

The mechanics are very easy to grasp, kinda like Mirror's Edge. The combat can be challenging and the enemy AI is pretty efficient; zombies and humans alike.

The unique selling point of this game; day and light cycles where super zombies come out to prey at night, isn't just a gimmick. You can skip the night, ONLY if you have access to a safe house when night comes. Sometimes though, you get so engrossed with the quests, that you mentally ignore the Tower's reminders on the comms and only start to panic when your watch beeps, indicating that it's time to haul ass. If you find yourself far away from any safe house, then well, Good Night...and Good Luck.

Coop mode heightens the thrills and suspense, and c'mon...it's just plain fun to bash zombies with friends!

Glad I chose this over Far Cry 4.

I also don't like how the wepons degrade so fast and you either need to repair (if you have any repairs left) or craft a brand new wepon.

The map and everything is perfect though, the simplicity is great. Tells you where you need to go so you don't have to spend hours trying to figure that out like some games.

I would recommend this game, however, keep in mind that their are quite a few of exploit cheats, glitches, and even glitched trophys. You might want to rent it first from Gamefly or another rental service just to be sure you'll like it.

I hate the placement of the jump button, which goes against the norm, but then I noticed in another WB game I played recently that the controls looked like they were devised in the dark by a drunk. This seems to be an area that needs work in that developer's studio.
Anyway, the game will tax your skills most of the time, and some parts are really difficult if you haven't paid attention to scavenging and upgrading weapons/skills. On that note, having to pick locks in order to get the better pickups is really annoying, especially when you get swarmed by zombies as you are halfway through a pick. We could have done without the lock picking bit.
All in all, this is an absorbing game, with plenty of action, as you might expect, and should keep you entertained for many hours. Co-op is fun and helps in some of the more difficult parts too.

    Not just another zombie game
dying light is an open world rpg style game from the developer of the original dead island and it shows
dead island is very cartoony compared to the more mature toned Dying Light
This is a much grittier game that takes itself much more seriously
you’re an undercover agent named Kyle Crane sent to infiltrate a quarantine zone
as soon as you get there you see that the place is crawling with zombies and other survivors
    you’re instantly bit and infected
you’re rescued by a woman named jade and she takes you back to the tower because she trusts you can help the remaining survivors,
And to get into their good graces this is exactly what you do..
    You’re an errand boy...
you do all of the tough tasks that others are afraid or too weak to do...
As soon as you’re healed up you’re taught how to do parkour and this unlike in Dead Island gives you the opportunity to travel through the roof tops assassins’ creed style….
Unfortunately though, the parquor system isn’t the greatest….
There is no flow to it, and this lack of flow really stands out towards the end that I won’t show to prevent spoiler, but unlike in assassins creed, if you don’t stop before you make a leap, your character is going to do a half jump and fall to his death,
This no flow needs fixed for a sequel, and please let us climb down…
jumping down while I grab ledges is a little too risky for my taste…
awkward parquor asside, I was in love with the game for the first few hours, I loved exploring the city and scavenging for weapons and items to craft better weapons but dying light is missing the magic dead island had for me
While dying light is the 2nd most believable zombie games I’ve played since the last of us,
nothing about this world feels real or previously lived in… the world in dying light feels insanely generic
There’s no moments, unless I overlooked them where you see a zombie stuck in the loop of a past life
sure some will be locked in the bathroom in houses but they just feel like a gamey jump scare not like they belong there..not like they once lived in the house youre going through
There is no human left in these zombies, ultimately turning them into a nuisance rather than a victim of their circumstances like dead island or even tell tales the walking dead does near perfectly
It would’ve been so much better for the tone they set out to hit if there was a dilemma or struggle to kill
Maybe if it were more about panicking humans than just a bunch of zombies…
Because this really is just completing tasks while zombies bother you
    that’s it
    And it’s a shame…
Theres so much potential here and it becomes repetitive too fast
I was so impressed with how difficult the zombies seemed in this game.. id try my hardest to avoid conflict with them, even with insanely powerful weapons…
There are random side quests and side activities that pop up on the screen where you can help survivors or take supplies from the rival gang..
You can even use the zombies to attack rival enemies for you by throwing fire crackers to attract them, or just getting them to chase you..
Helping npcs, climbing buildings, and killing enemies all level up a different skills,
You have a survivor, agility, and and power skill tree,
Leveling up can get you awesome perks like added health, learning how to use traps in the city, taking less damage from falls.. and at night all of your xp earned is double..
    Except for one little problem
At night zombies are on steroids especially the volatiles
The zombies at night are fast, powerful, they can climb and chase after you,
It’s a thrill to try and make it to a safe spot before you’re killed and sleep til morning
Or you can stay out at night and test your luck…
About 50 percent of the way through the story though dying light kind of turns into more of a first person shooter and this is really where the game starts to fall apart..
I was so happy thinking, they got it right this time.. one giant city for me to explore.. they didn’t make the dead island mistake of making me go to different places
    Wrong
In the back of my mind while playing I was thinking..
If they dare send me to the sewers like every zombie game in existence does…
    and guess what
    they did….
Just like in Dead Island they send you through the sewers and you end up in what I’m convinced is the exact same place you end up in in Dead Island... I definitely got smacked with some dejavu
But you end up in a more crowded spot in the city, that’s just no fun….at all…
I didn’t have even the slightest urge to explore this section…
and worst of all, you cant fast travel through these 2 spots I understand the lack of fast travel in the actual city The fun of the game is making it back before the light dies. .but at least let me hop back and forth between the 2 sections of the city… “I hate sewers It’s so disappointing how predictable dying light ended up being... at least progression wise… The actual story was throwing me all over the

THE GAME PLAY : The game play is the part where it really got interesting , the game play is basically Mirrors Edge + Dead Island + The Open World of a game like GTA V (in size) . I really have funny bashing the brains of the undead hordes swallowing the streets . It felt like something new as well which was a strange feeling . THE VERDICT : Personally i loved this game and after last years disappointments like Destiny and Watch Dogs i felt this was the first game to truly not disappoint me in anything , yeah there were a few bugs i encountered but none of them where game breaking . I've enjoyed my time on Dying Light so i'm gonna give it a 10/10 . Expand

With Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide still lingering in everyone's brain, Techland have created something quite spectacular. You take on the world of Harran, a city being overrun with zombies and mutants. The parkour aspect of the game is delivered very well, and can make getting to far away places exciting and fun.

Dying Light takes on a crafting system similar to Dead Island, where you have the ability to find blueprints to create special weapons and have the option to repair weapons to reuse. The NPC's in the game are also similar to those in Dead Island, all looking very similar and acting the same.

The game also draws some elements from Far Cry 4, with some characters and missions reminding me of the people of Kyrat. Although these are mostly good, one particular part of the game (towards the end) is a direct reference to Far Cry, which leaves you scratching your head in Dying Light, and having nothing to do with the game.

The story is surprisingly good for Dying Light, as I had no real expectations after Dead Island. Techland show their creative story telling side, and shine throughout the game with no real weak spots.

One gripe I have with the game is the difficulty at the start. I constantly found myself dying in encounters with a group of zombies while only having weak starter weapons. Also, your first encounter with bandits can be extremely painful if you don't have a solid plan and decent weapons. I found myself loosing my cool at these points and struggling to find a reason to get through the difficult stretches.
Once you finish the story though, the game and city of Harran truly open up to you. With great weapons and loads of abilities, I find myself extremely enjoying the end game, both day and night, probably more then I was during the story.

Dying Light's greatest strength though, is the day/night cycle. Surviving during the day while trying to find loot and leveling up your character is enjoyable, but when the sun goes down and the volatiles come out, the gameplay switches from run and kill to stealth and silence. A chase by a volatile is an extremely terrifying thing as you try to get to the nearest safe zone. The night time is infested with these creatures, while also spiking up the difficulty for the AI zombies. Techland knew this, and made night time double XP for kills, which can give you a reason to stay outside and fight. Once you see the sun rising, you feel a great sign of relief and accomplishment.

The multiplayer and Co-op is definitely worth a play as well. I found myself in tears of laughter playing with friends, as the game offers so much enjoyable moments when enjoyed together.

All in all, Dying Light is one of the best zombie games out there. With great graphics and visuals, a fluent parkour system, a terrifying day/night cycle and a surprisingly solid story, Dying Light is something to be enjoyed by most, and to feared by many.

The parkour on the other hand is also good, but it could have a little bit more depth to it. Think "Mirror's Edge" and by that I mean the ability to pull your legs in while jumping, making it even more fluid. Also sidewall running would be kind of awesome.

Just think about, running sidewalls, jumping away and in the are land an axe in a zombies head and just run along, towards the horizon. It would simply be awesome. Now, don't misunderstand me - I think the parkour is great and adds variation and a feeling of freedom. And jumping around at night being chased by Volatiles is an awesome feeling that everyone should experience at least once.

I do however wish that all weapons would scale with your level. Because later in the game, you get access to katanas, machetes, picks etc but baseball bats, crowbars and hammers get a lot more rare, which takes away the creativity of killing and the usefulness of 50% of the blueprints (blueprints is an permanent upgrade to your weapon, for example electricity or toxic and fire).

And sure, they could have been more creative when it comes to sidequests, some sidequests are really fun in terms of the character(s) you will talk with, which adds a little bit of humour - which is a fine contrast to the otherwise morbid world. But the structure of most quests gets repetitive - but the totally awesome combat and parkour does a perfect job at making the quests either fun or solid.

And with this I conclude my review. The story is OK, nothing new, but nothing bad either. The graphics are fine, except for some parts; the water is not that good looking, but everything else look either very good or good! For the sound, there is no problem with it. You can hear skulls cracking, zombies screaming right behind you as you run for your lfe.

So, I definitely recommend this game to anyway that is looking for innovative zombie killing!

In terms of mechanics, the game feels like a cross between Dead Island and Assassin's Creed, while foregoing the weakness of both. In its beautiful open world, you hunt for loot, supplies, and a variety of mission types. The game has an incredibly palpable sense of environment, further enhanced by nighttime's elevated dangers. In addition the satisfying loot and parkour, there's also a really great character system. Just playing the game nets you points that you can use to further strengthen your zombie-slaying prowess.

While the game is by and large a great title, there are few things that I wish were improved or changed. For me, item durability seems a bit low and that trivializes most weapons for me. On the plus side, this makes you cherish your good weapons even more. There are also a few moments where the parkour can be a bit obtuse, just like my vocabulary.

So should you get this game if you're looking for some good zombie killing action? Absolutely. Quit reading my rant and buy it, son!

My experience with Dying Light has been an addictive, well rounded game mechanic with plenty to do. The XP upgrade system is excellent and worth pursuing, and the parkour style works really well in terms of it being a bit hard to master at first but then you can really start to rely on it once you understand it well. Visually the game is beautiful though I find skins a bit bland overall.

The only real gripe I have - and its a big one - is the story and voice acting. Terribly boring and predictable scenario and characters you meet. Their accents are all over the place (and not in an interesting/good way) it feels 'b' grade in that category. Its the kind of plot that feels deeply immature and dated for its lack of fresh personalities or decisions. I'd rate the game lower but I think it would do a huge injustice to the efforts put into the rest of the game which are top notch.

Also as I'm late to the game (few patches already implemented) I have found it to be glitch/bug free which was surprising given other reviewers reservations.

Highly recommended overall. Varied, addictive and fun.

I waited a year for this game to come out. And when it finally did, i was not disappointed. The gameplay is incredible, and the graphics are nothing short of gorgeous. Just exploring the massive open world is a blast. The only downside is that the story isn't super original, and there is a very cliche hallucination level at one point. other than that, i loved it, and i still can't put it down.

Then i got like two hours into it and suddenly it was just MUCH better for some reason (and i am not quite sure why). Maybe it was because that i had gotten better at parkour and fighting or maybe it was just because that i had figured out how to actually play it. Because the way to play Dying Light is to have fun. That is the reason to pick up this game. Not because of the story, not because of the gameplay but because it is fun and a little bit addictive sometimes. So should you pick up this game. If you're not tired of zombies and want to have fun, then yes. But if you expect an amazing plot and memorable characters, this is not where you should look. Then you should check out a game called "The last of us" (that is if haven't played it and you have a Playstation 3/4). But i will give this game an 8/10 cause of the high fun factor.

The parkour isn't Mirror's Edge levels of intricate, but that's okay because if it was the movement system, while amazing, would have been too much of a distraction from the other gameplay elements. That said, the parkour is very good and exactly at the level it needs to be.

Where I think some complaints come from are from how the game changes about halfway in. What starts out as a survival horror game where resources are scarce, weapons are weak, and where you are likely to die if you encounter even 4 or more zombies, let alone a speciality one, later becomes a more fast paced zombie stomp romp that's fun to play with your friends, allowing you to quickly dispatch zombies with ease.

Some people came for the survival, some for the romp, the fact is you get both, and that's a good thing. I have no idea why people don't like the genre mesh, if I am paying this much for a game and it had better give me as much as Dying Light has.

The parkour is fun but would be much better if the jump and grab worked all the time unstead of just 2/3 of the time. It is so annoying jumping up and down uselessly while trying to grab a ledge while zombies are breathing down your neck (why do you need to look up to jump up - seems unnecessary). I wish they would get the code from Uncharted or Assassins Creed or Shadow of Mordor for parkour and this would be one hell of a game. Yet I am still playing because it is still fun and I seem to care what happens. Combat is decent, but you feel pretty underpowered at first and the game pretty much encourages you to run away from most fights (although you will have to fight to clear safehouses). I can see it getting tedious if one played the game nonstop start to finish (which is what the reviewers are doing more or less), but in 2-3 hour chunks it is good fun. The quests do bring this game down a little. That much is true. Just when you think you have finished a quest, they say, "Oh and one more thing you have to do before I give you your reward." Yet, they are fun enough to keep me playing longer than I have played in a long time. Night is scary and I haven't ventured out much yet because I am a wuss. So far I have 2 quests that require night and I did the one mandatory one. It wasn't too difficult (avoid vision cones on mini map which makes you move slower - if you try to speed run you will have 5 of them - special night zombies - on your butt in no time and they are fast). One other thing. The city design seems like it could have been better thought out to make running the roof tops faster and easier, but it adds to realism when your rooftops run out (not that jumping like this game is ultra realistic - but who cares - its a game). Also, a way to climb down would be nice (currently the only way down is to jump in trash bags or jump and hope it isn't high enough to kill you). Many have listed the facial animations as a detractor and while the characters are not super expressive, its not bad enough to take me out of the story (the animations are not robotic or anything). Upgrades and crafting are rewarding and well done. I am glad I took the chance on this game! Good fun that I see playing until the end (which I can't seem to do with most open world quest slogs). Dying Light features three distinct skill trees that level up based on the objectives the player completes, the amount of parkour one does, and how many enemies the player takes down. The skill trees were one of my favorite mechanics behind this game as everything contained within was of great use; I actually felt rewarded by leveling my character. The open world is huge, and separated into two distinct zones in which the player can travel back and forth. There is no fast travel in Dying Light, which I found added to the game. It meant that I had to learn the terrain so I could make my way around quickly and strategically which added a good deal of immersion to my experience. The day/night cycle were a good addition to the experience as well. During the night, the enemies are harder to escape and will chase you down usually resulting in death. The trade-off is that you get bonus experience towards your skills at night, which makes leveling up quicker. The story isn't bad either, but the one-dimensional characters aren't going to win any awards either. I played Dying Light on the PC and would say that it's worth playing. Expand

This game is more or less the same, vehicles are replaced by parkour, core gameplay remains the same with mostly melee combat, with loot used to find better weapons/ or to create items, throwables, medkits, etc. But It definitely feels like a sequel and is no Dead Island 1.5. Now, the story is just as generic as Dead Island (maybe more?), it really is cliche as a zombie story you can get. Now for the pros and cons of this game. The pros are the parkour of this game, it adds a fresh twist to the game and is generally fun, especially with the grappling hook. The general game play (open world, combat, graphics, looting/crating, etc) to me is good and fun, but everything is limited. You'll be using the same weapons throughout the game, just with stronger stats. The blueprints to create stronger weapons was also limited; its basically adding fire, electric, impact, and toxic; except they make it look like a lot by giving it different names for different classes of weapons. It gives the illusion of tons of blueprints to collect, when there aren't. This is definitely not Dead Rising when it comes to crafting weapons, its like a watered down version of it. The worst part of this game is probably the side quests, the majority of side content are either unrewarding, a grind, or copy and paste of each other. However protection quests are fun, challenging, and rewarding, and clearing safe houses are also fun. Overall good core game play, with a lot of so-so elements added to it. To recap the good: The Parkour, general game play. The Bad: Cliche Zombie story and grindy/ unrewarding side quests. When it comes down to it, I can't recommend this game to everyone as it can get repetitive like Dead Island, but guaranteed anyone who enjoyed Dead Island WILL enjoy this game just as much, if not more. Techland took many of the elements of it's previous zombie title Dead Island and spiced things up a bit by implementing a few new features and game elements. Dying Light is generally a darker, more serious game then the former title, however the main antagonist Kyle Crane has some of the most bland and generic dialogue moments I've ever heard in a game. I'm not a big fan of Crane at all - he's about as generic of an American antagonist as can be, and most of his dialogue is just cheesy. That being said, the game's main story is engaging, and there are many side quests to do to keep you on your toes as well. I'm a fan of the new parkour elements implemented throughout the game - they seem to add an even greater element of tension and exploration. The soundtrack from this game is also very unique, and almost serves as a 70's/80's horror film throwback. The game can be a bit buggy however; the key things I have noticed is that the parkour elements can be somewhat unreliable at times, and when moving through the open world at a fast pace there seems to be some frame dropping occasionally. The durability and stamina systems would be more fair individually, however when put together they can make combat very frustrating early on. Fortunately, you level up fairly quickly by gaining experience for doing just about anything and everything. It's also fair to point out that the graphics for this game are great - they may not be the best that the PS4 has to offer, but it's a definite step up over previous gen titles. Dying Light is sure to develop a cult following just as the Dead Island titles - if you are looking for a first person zombie basher with rpg elements and a fusion of parkour gameplay, then you'll probably enjoy this game. Dying light has been the most pleasantly surprising game of 2015 so far for me. Smashing through zombies is just fun, I don't care what anyone says. I really believe this game deserves much higher than a 74 average critic rating. On top of the game being dumb fun, the most fascinating thing to me is just how impressive Dying Light is on a technical level. Sure, graphically the game is nice enough(mainly because of some pretty lighting), but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about there being close to 100 zombies on screen at once(including big ones that throw cars),being able to go in and out of like a thousand random buildings, and how big the map is. I also think the game has a really cool soundtrack. All in all a great game top to bottom, sure the story is pretty average but that's not even that bad considering the game doesn't need a great story and this story isn't bad at all just nothing to get excited about. If you have the time I strongly recommend you play this and ignore the mixed reviews. Expand

I jumped over a wall and hear someone breathing behind me. I turn around and have to defend myself against a fierce zombie . Some other zombies heard the fight and come at me . Quickly overwhelmed, i have no choice but to flee . I jumped over a roof and pass thru it ,making big noise that attracted fast zombies, more dangerous than the few i fled from. Not sure why Techland gets sh*t on by "pro" reviewers more than other developers. I don't know why, really. Yeah the story is meh. I agree the zombies may not be wearing thin for some. But you know what? It's committed no faults that any other higher rated game haven't committed. It's actually probably one of two games that worked out of the box in the last 2 years. It's a fun, tense, open world zombie freerunning rpg. Enjoy it, even if it is Techland, the red headed stepchildof game developers. Expand

This game is the most engaging games I have played in years, it is different than any other game. It is so much more interesting than Dragon Age Inquisition or Watch Dogs. Here every side quest has its cinematics, real story, even small go and fetch side quests are interesting and you want to do them, like getting the glasses and a gardening book for some dude... and they are narrated, you don't have to read pages of boring texts. The parkouring makes it even more fun, moving around, getting into the rythm of jumping from roof to roof, is satisfying.

Even if you progress you still get scared at night, the balance between difficulty and grind is just right.

The two maps in this game (large scale and linked) are some of the most beautifully crafted, detailed, STUNNING maps I have ever seen.

They infuse elements of Moroccan, South American architecture, a stunning walled city surrounding by gorgeous cascading cliffs and a fantastic beach. Heck there are even ruined Roman aqueducts, it's insane!!! So many small details.

And the fact that you can now traverse the high rise roof tops is incredible. It's also filled with TONS of loot, eye candy, zombie hordes and beautiful indoor environments.

    What I LOVE:
Story is engaging and cleverly written (cliched enough to not take itself too seriously)

Mechanics are smooth as butter, free-running is astonishingly well built and easy. The melee combat is intense and satisfying.

The sound design and voice-overs are TOP notch. The music is fantastic, a play on the films of the 80's Zombie revolution in the likes of Romaro. The zombie sounds and shrieks are bone chilling; especially at night!

Lot of satisfying secondary missions very finely crafted to augment the main missions; the story always makes sense and always further develops the characters.

Fantastic Coop and PVP (Zombie mode) mechanics.

Fantastic atmosphere! Doesn't take itself too seriously but is also dark enough to make it tense and gritty.

Runs great on PS4, occasional frame drops but I rarely notice it enough to care. Would have obviously been nice at 60fps, but even PC is having trouble apparently.

    I can't understand how this game hasn't gotten a 90%+

I'm a big zombie fan, so this game already starts off with a head-start. Dying Light is a very fun, and immersive open world game to get lost in. Then thrown in a day and night cycle where being out a night is much more dangerous and the last thing you want is to be caught out while the sun is going down and you've got a very scary atmosphere. Combat is very satisfying and is similar to Dead Island but much more improved. For the zombie genre fans out there, this is a very good game which you'll enjoy but for people who can't stand the zombie genre, I don't feel like this will do much for ya. They've also continued to support the game with paid and free DLC four years after release. I mean that's pretty cool. Expand

While the graphics are nothing special and the story is lackluster, Dying Light still manages to provide plenty of zombie-slaying fun thanks to a fluid, well-designed parkour system, and satisfying, rewarding combat with tons of weapons and skills to unlock and try out.. I will definitely continue to play this frequently in the coming months.

Its a really fluid game, with a more or less cool crafting system, although the storyline sucks big ball, the gameplay compensate for it. its way funnier to be just running trough the zombie apocalypse than do the story line. also until you level up (almost to the top), the night is something you need to watch out for.
finally if you have some friend for the CO-OP, DO IT without a doubt,
